The following comes from a November 1 Catholic News Agency article:
Pope Francis will visit Mexico City in February 2016, Cardinal Norberto Rivera announced on Sunday.
Mexico would be Pope Francis’ fourth trip to the Americas. He visited Brazil for World Youth Day in August 2013. In July of 2014 he traveled to Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay. He visited the United States and Cuba Sept. 19-27.
The Pope has indicated he wanted to spend a full week there, especially to visit the famous Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. In March he told the Mexican media group Televisa he had wanted to enter the U.S. from the country’s Mexican border as a symbolic gesture. However, he decided that would be too short a visit for Mexico.
CCC: ” 2241 Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants’ duties toward their country of adoption.
Immigrants are OBLIGED to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them,
to OBEY its LAWS,
and to assist in carrying civic burdens.”
CCC: ” 2241 The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin.
Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him. …….”
The USA is no longer prosperous. LEGAL immigrants are welcome. ILLEGAL immigrants are not “guests”. As of Sept 4 – a record 94,031,000 Americans are out of work per the US Labor Dept.
ILLEGAL immigration causes the break-up of families;
sex trafficking, drug trafficking, murder, the spread of Latino gangs, etc.
Build the fence, close the border except for LEGAL immigration and LEGAL trade.
ILLEGAL immigration has been supported by some US Bishops.
If the Pope were to do anything to promote “ILLEGAL” immigration, he would be violating the Doctrine of the Faith as stated in the CCC.
“….the Pope can be wrong on immigration, the environment and the economy, among other things. ….” – – – Cardinal Sarah, Prefect for the Congregation for Divine Worship is clarifying binding doctrine.
It is the simplest solution because Pope Francis P.P. only speaks Spanish and very primitive Italian.
So the Pope wants to enter the U.S. from the Mexican border, as a symbolic gesture. How considerate, how Community Organizational.
Capital idea. Let’s have Sheriff Joe Arpaio meet and greet Francisco at the crossing, issue him the Sheriff’s trademark pink underwear, then have the Pontiff punching license plates for a few months (or years) — all of course as a symbolic gesture.
