Pope Francis has updated the statutes of the Dicastery for Laity, the Family and Life, adding among other things a specific reference to the office’s responsibility for promoting a deeper reflection on the role of women in the Church and society.
“The dicastery works to deepen the reflection on the relationship between men and women in their respective specificity, reciprocity, complementarity and equal dignity,” the new statutes said. “Valuing the feminine ‘genius,’ it offers a contribution to ecclesial reflection on the identity and mission of women in the church and in society, promoting their participation.”
The new statutes, approved by the pope on an experimental basis, were released by the Vatican May 8 and were to go into force May 13. They replace statutes issued in June 2016, just before the new office began functioning under the leadership of U.S. Cardinal Kevin J Farrell.

What is he talking about, “,, , , promoting a deeper reflection on the role of women in the Church and society.” ?What is a “deeper role”? Women priestesses perhaps?
The article does not mention that the previous Office of Laity established by Pope St. John Paul II had an entire branch completely run by and dedicated to women! This office within the Vatican was very much alive and thriving before it was GUTTED by Pope Francis. It was filled with Orthodox laity and religious and priests. Why dismantle that important work and its history bull-dozed?
Given that many females are EMOHCs, Lectors, Sacristans, Altar servers, etc; I cannot figure out the need to examine the role of women in the Church. I think we need to emphasize that good men are very much needed in the Church, especially in the priesthood.
In most of society, ‘barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen’ is pasee. Perhaps many of the former catholic women left because they perceived a stained glass ceiling and little or no prospects of breaking through it.
Well mike m., as I see it married women have the choice of being “barefoot and pregnant” serving their families at home as queens of the their own kitchen, painting rooms, gardening, doing crafts, nursing and driving children around, making money selling crafts and hemming dresses, etc.., and generally being their own boss most of the time, OR driving miles in horrible traffic, facing the stress of dead lines and being bossed by strangers for a “paycheck”. I have done both at appropriate times. Glad I am “retired”.
Modern American feminists are sick, troubled people, out-of-touch with reality! In many foreign countries– such as in Latino, and similar countries– the family and home are considered to be of prime importance in life, and life’s greatest fulfillment! NOT phony, false values, wrapped around unnatural, lonely, individualistic, hardened, competitive achievement in a career, with egotism, money, and prestige!! Women do not need phony, unnatural “feminism,” to find self-worth! Instead– self-worth is found– through maturity! Maturity, in all that you are, in all that you do! A mature woman, who is a loving wife and good mother– is the greatest treasure!
Of course– a woman can work, and pursue a career, if she wants. However– family should always come first! The great opera singer, Beverly Sills, had a deaf son, and a daughter with Down syndrome. A devout Jew, she always was active in her Jewish community, helping others, And she was also active in helping young singers to succeed, too! She greatly reduced her opera career, to go home and give all she could, to her beloved husband and children. They came first— and should! I know of many women today, who quit or reduce their careers, to become dedicated Care Givers, for elderly parents!
Please excuse my lack of some plural nouns in my last post as I sent it out too fast.
Of course the Pope does. St. JPII has already spoken authoritatively on the ordination of women.
But, Zombie-Liberals now say that this issue is “too big for one pope to decide” (even though Francis, alone, can invite direct disobedience to Christ’s own words, via Ch. 8 of Amoris Laetitae).
Like Satan, Zombie-Liberal Catholics will never sleep until they have remade the institutional Catholic Church to be another Episcopalian monster. Time to stand up, Catholics!
The restriction of Holy Orders to baptized males is infallible doctrine.
