Over 200 rallies across the nation this Saturday will call for an end to taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. (Find your local rally location here.) The rallies are organized by #ProtestPP, a coalition of state and national pro-life groups calling for public protest in response to the recent revelations that Planned Parenthood has been involved in the illicit trafficking of aborted babies’ body parts.

“This upcoming Saturday morning offers us a wonderful opportunity to expose Planned Parenthood and share the truth in love with our community, “ says Teresa Marsano, the local organizer of the San Luis Obispo rally.

Not only has Planned Parenthood been exposed by the Center for Medical Progress for selling parts of aborted babies, but recent exposés by Live Action prove that Planned Parenthood’s main “service” is abortion. Recorded phone calls show Planned Parenthood employees telling investigators that Planned Parenthood does not offer pre-natal care. After the exposé, Planned Parenthood removed “prenatal care” from the listed services on its website. Live Action also found that Planned Parenthood does not offer ultrasounds to pregnant women – unless the ultrasound is in preparation for an abortion.

Planned Parenthood performs thirty-four percent of the abortions in the U.S. every year and receives over 420 million in federal tax dollars. If Planned Parenthood is defunded, every dollar taken away can be used for care at Federally Qualified Health Centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics by 13 to 1 nationally. Federally Qualified Health Centers do not provide abortions. These centers offer a much broader range of services than Planned Parenthood offers.

Eric Scheidler, Executive Director of Pro-Life Action League, one of the three main sponsoring organizations of #ProtestPP, pointed out that, due to the recent Women’s March in Washington and the likelihood of counter-protesters, Saturday’s rallies will have more media coverage than usual. Scheidler quoted the book of Deuteronomy as encouragement for the local rally organizers. “When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.” (Deut. 20:1)

The San Luis Obispo rally, like many of the rallies across the nation, is expecting counter protesters. Marsano says, “We see this as God’s way of gathering ‘those who live in darkness’ to see a great light. This is an opportunity our Lord has set before us to choose to be His hands and feet, a sign of His great love and mercy.”
