….One matter where Pelosi is in sync with conservatives is the Catholic Church’s China policy. Pelosi appeared incensed over the Vatican’s China agreement, the precise details of which have never been made public. First announced in 2018 and twice renewed, most recently in October, the deal marked a significant milestone in a relationship long strained by internal tensions between China’s state-supervised Catholic church and an underground church loyal to the Vatican.
Pope Francis has appointed about 10 bishops under the deal since it was first made in 2018. Pelosi echoed conservative anti-Communist Catholics and religious freedom advocates who have blasted the arrangement by quoting a passage of the Gospel of Matthew that is a cornerstone of the Roman Catholic Church. “Let me say it this way, ‘Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.’ Every bishop has sprung from that rock. And now, the Chinese government?” Pelosi said.
Pelosi’s criticism of the pontiff over China stands out given that he has taken a gentler approach on culture war issues, such as opening up a dialogue in the church with LGBTQ+ Catholics, and is a favorite of the progressives who generally back the former speaker.
At the same time, her criticism is unsurprising given her personal faith and longstanding criticism of China’s human rights record. Pelosi, who angered China in 2022 with a trip to Taiwan as one of her last acts as speaker, noted that Republicans and Democrats both joined her objection over Sino-Holy See relations. Pelosi said she was so troubled with the Vatican’s agreement that she took her complaints to the papal nuncio, the Vatican’s ambassador in the United States.
“We showed him what our concerns were, what had been said and written by Democrats and Republicans, House and Senate,” Pelosi said. “This brings a lot of us together, because over time, even bishops were being killed. I mean, this is like martyrs.”
Pelosi contrasted Pope Francis with Hong Kong’s retired cardinal. “With all the respect in the world for His Holiness, Pope Francis, my point of view is closer to the cardinal of Hong Kong, Joseph Zen,” she said.

According to the 2024-2025 edition of the SF Archdiocesan Catholic Directory, the general population of the Archdiocesan territory– which includes San Francisco, Marin, And San Mateo Counties– is a total of 1,912,500. And the Catholic population is a total of 498,812. That all amounts to nearly one-quarter of the entire general population, listed as Catholic. If you look at other sources– or if you use Google to find this informarion — you get slightly different results. Anyway, it is such a shame that the Catholic Church cannot get going with good Catholic teaching and good Church discipline, in the post-Conciliar era. Nancy Pelosi, and many others, should have long ago been sternly shepherded, and told to repent– or face excommunication. No babying. Such ridiculous permissiveness in Church leadership results in a terrible loss to the Bay Area region, to the entire state, and a terrible loss to the entire country– and to the world! People cannot be left to mindlessly drift, and “do as they please,” incompetently, with poor religious and moral leadership and guidance. The Catholic Church, and all the other churches, have something to say– and people had better listen. A great many in our general population are Catholics– as well as thousands of other Christians. They are all in need of a good Catholic or good Christian formation. Then they will be able to competently lead good lives, and be good spouses, parents, family members, and good workers– and good political candidates, too, to be elected, and to serve in all parts of our society, and make excellent contributions. We will then be able to effectively tackle and solve many serious problems, and we will all have a much better society.
What a horrible thing, Nancy Pelosi has appealed to the Pope regarding Archbishop Cordileone’s warning to her to not present herself for reception of Holy Communion. Abp. Cordileone appeared in an interview tonight on EWTN’s “World Over Live” with Raymond Arroyo. Nancy Pelosi’s total lack of respect for the Archbishop is a horror. Hope the Pope and Vatican officials support Abp. Cordileone in this case.

If you read between the lines and understand that Pelosi is a shrewd politician, she’s lobbying Francis for a canonical ruling in her favor about being banned from Communion by her archbishop. She’s scratching his back. She doesn’t care about the church in China. She only cares about herself and what angle she can work to serve her own interests.
She suffered an injury and has been admitted to a hospital in Luxembourg. Pray she uses this time to reflect upon her misdeeds and be open to the mercy of the Lord and repentance. Sometimes a hospital bed can change one’s perspective.
Rep. Pelosi suffered a hip injury due to falling down stairs in Luxembourg, while traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of the WWII II Battle of the Bulge. In the news, it was stated that Pelosi will likely require surgery. She is age 84, and will be age 85, in March of 2025. Hip injuries at this age, for seniors, are scary. Hip injuries in the elderly may result in a downhill descent of health, and eventual death. Nancy needs prayers for healing, and help for a conversion, and repentance. It is far better for our Church to never have allowed so-called Vatican II “freedoms,” (usually inept, misguided) “individual decisions” on even extremely heavy moral issues– all by yourself. A terrible, terrible mistake, from Day One, by 1960s misguided intellectual clerics– sorry, but that is my opinion. All through history, such brainless, dangerous, terribly flawed, “idiot” ideas have resulted in horrible errors– (1960s-style, “human errors,” right?) It is like putting a loaded gun in the hands of incompetent, misguided, confused, flawed human beings, with no safety lock—- and no firearms training, and very little understanding of the absolute life-and-death seriousness of what has been placed in their incompetent hands. Even in the best of situations– you will very soon hear many horrific stories of misguided “accidents” and horrific bloodshed. Extremely serious, life-and-death moral issues belong only in the hands of the highest in the Church, decided upon centuries ago, like the Ten Commandments given by God to Moses– and are unchangeable. Abortion — killing your unborn child– is not a “personal decision.” And neither are sexual sins– pornography, child pornography,
prostitution, pre-marital sex, gay pervert sex acts, etc. — all are very serious, selfish Mortal Sins. No exceptions. Pres. Joe Biden, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and thousands of others, should have been sternly told that by the Catholic Church, long ago—- it would have spared them much drifting into trouble. And would have saved the lives of millions of unborn children. Yet, conversion and repentance are always available, so there is always hope for everyone. Jesus relentlessly runs and pursues every single one of His beloved, lost sheep, lost in sin, helplessly ensnared in the brambles, the evil lies, deceptions and tricks of the Devil. He died for every single one of us. No exceptions. That is how I see things.
Some people do not understand the meaning and value of discipline. When you are made to do right, and can’t really manage to get out of it, and want to resist– but you know it won’t really work, you will get in big, bad trouble in the end. And you are not old enough, or you are not competent enough to understand it. But you have to do it anyway. Tough discipline has been traditionally the pathway to success in serious fields, such as the arts, academics, and sports– and in religion, too. It is a must. It is a tragedy that this Jesuit Pope cannot grasp that. Good habits of discipline, and good character, deeply instilled, a good sense of responsibility– the work ethic– is like a penance that yields great benefits in life. When I was young, I recall a Jesuit priest saying, in regard to married couples facing their troubles– “When the going gets tough– the tough get going.” You must face your challenges– and be strong inside, and carry your crosses valiantly. No babying– it will kill everything you’ve got– and kill your relationship with God, too. Love, compassion, empathy– mourning your situation, things that seem unfair, and mourning your mistakes in life, sure. That part is very human. Then, you’ve got to get going, and do what God tells you to do. This life isn’t the one we are called to, in the end– it is all a preparation for something far greater– Eternal Life with God in Heaven. Would so love to see the Jesuit Pope– act like a Jesuit. What great things he could do for the world.
