House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday said she was “pleased” with the Vatican’s recent letter to U.S. bishops on Communion for pro-abortion politicians.
Pelosi, who is Catholic, was asked by EWTN News Nightly correspondent Erik Rosales about the topic of Communion on Thursday.
“I think I can use my own judgement on that,” Pelosi said of receiving Holy Communion.
The Speaker has long supported legal abortion and has advocated for taxpayer-funded abortion by repealing the Hyde Amendment. She has also supported the Equality Act, legislation that the U.S. bishops’ conference has warned would “punish” religious groups opposed to the redefinition of marriage and transgender ideology
Pelosi added that she was “pleased with what the Vatican put out on that subject” of Communion for pro-abortion Catholic politicians, claiming that the Vatican’s statement “basically said ‘don’t be divisive on the subject’.”
The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith wrote the head of the U.S. bishops last week regarding admission to Communion.
The bishops’ conference was reportedly planning to consider a statement on the Eucharist this year, either at their spring meeting in June or at their fall meeting in November. They were planning to address the topic of admission to Communion of Catholics in public office who support permissive legislation on intrinsic evils such as abortion or euthanasia.
However, the bishops had planned to frame any statement on Communion within the larger context of general worthiness to receive Holy Communion.
The Vatican’s statement, from Cardinal Luis Ladaria, exhorted the bishops to “serene” dialogue among themselves, to ensure that they “agree as a Conference that support of pro-choice legislation is not compatible with Catholic teaching.” Then the bishops should dialogue with Catholic politicians who support legislation not compatible with Church teaching….
The above comes from a May 13 story on the site of the Catholic News Agency.
She won’t be so pleased to hear “depart from me you accursed into everlasting fire”. She is old and moving ever closer to her final judgement, in charity we should pray for her repentance but though you can lead this old mare to water, you cannot make her drink.
She’ll eat plenty of gourmet ice cream from her luxury freezers in her home in S.F. though.
Deus Vult,
I find it difficult, but I occasionally pray for Pope Francis and Cardinal Mahoney. I think both men will come to a very bad end, spiritually, if they don’t repent of who they are.
I suspect that most devout Catholics are like me. They start out poorly catechized, but they come to grow in their faith because of their love for God. Consequently, they slowly [or quickly] change their views and attitudes over time as they see the sheer splendor of the Truth and the incorrectness of their old views. For most, this doesn’t happen overnight.
For me, my views largely stopped changing once I hit 30. Nevertheless, they continue to undergo minor tweaks as I’ve learned more about God and his awesome ways. For others, they may not undergo major change until the end of their lives.
I recently learned that Rudolf Hoess of Auschwitz reverted to Catholicism about a week before his execution. Most Nazis died as devout Nazis: I believe that the angels sing over this one massive but repentant sinner.
The conversion of Nazi Rudolf Hess is an argument For The Death Penalty. Sentenced to death, he knew his time to repent was short. Had he just been able to languish in a prison cell, the urgency would have been lost and his conversion may never have come.
Even those who are detestable to us are not beyond God’s mercy. Maybe some kind hearted people who find you and me detestable will, in their mercy, pray for us.
I read that it was the church bells near the prison that caused him to recall his Catholic upbringing as a youth. I always considered him to be an incredible monster, yet my heart was so warmed when I heard about this.
For the last few years of her life, I began to pray for Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I figured that God had extended her life precisely to give her more time to enable her salvation. Who knows?
She won’t be so pleased to hear “depart from me you accursed into everlasting fire”. she doesn’t believe now, but she will when it happens…on another note.. dialogue, dialogue, dialogue, that all these weak feckless men can say.
Fake Catholic. End of story.
Yes just like Joe Biden who call themselves Roman Catholics and yet support the murder of the unborn, don’t insult my intelligence Nancy.
Nancy Pelosi — do you read this Madam Speaker ? — is a vile Catholic. Her overt, and happily public, refusal to confess to the truth of Catholic teaching about the sanctity of life is a constant scandal to the Church. You should not gain any confidence, or moral peace, by the slimy words of the Vatican, Madam Speaker. you are listening to false prophets who argue that black is white, no is yes, and holy is subject to your unformed conscience.
The sad truth here is that the American bishops do not rise up — en toto — and demand that all of them deny communion to public servants like Pelosi, Joe Biden, Dick Durban and the many other “Catholics” who trade their faith for votes. No true Catholic is fooled by such phony devotion.
People hear what they want to hear. And there is always someone to tell people what they want to hear.
Again– I have never liked the post-Vatican II Church and its terribly irresponsible, mistaken “freedoms,” abandonment of moral and spiritual leadership, dialoguing with the Devil for false “compromises” to “please everyone,” and way too much “humanism” as well as near-total secularism! We are all choking on the “smoke of Satan” that entered the post-Conciliar Church– to refer to a statement once made by Pope St. Paul VI. The Devil is having his day, with Rep. Pelosi and her evildoer pals temporarily triumphing. What a terrible shame! Over 61 million innocent unborn American lives lost, by filthy “hippie promiscuity” and abortion– with no discipline nor correction– spurred on by filthy, Godless, Freudian-type fake “psychologists,” liberal, immoral academics and clergy misfits, sick, immoral feminists, and criminal, anti-society activists and misfits. Entire countries and civilizations destroyed, while immature, anti-leadership, “freedom-loving,” frightened Popes and their clerical leaders cower in the ruins of their churches, seeking selfish comfort and useless “dialogue-and-compromise with the Devil.” Shame on them all! Better to go to battle for Christ, and die if they must, like the Saints, steadfastly defending and upholding Christ’s Truth!
If Nancy Pelosi has no problems with it, then “[Nova] Roma locuta est, causa finita est!”
More of the idea of endless dialogue that never moves the ball towards pro-life positions. Neither does the Vatican statement address what is a serious matter for Ms. Pelosi’s soul. Of course she is happy with the Vatican’s decision to put divisiveness at the center of its moral position. I guess Jesus was divisive in the Temple with the money lenders and should have engaged in ‘dialogue’. Now Ms. Pelosi is further emboldened in sticking to her support of abortion and Planned Parenthood. Way to go, Rome.
Recently, Argentina’s pro-abortion President Alberto Fernandez made a visit to the Vatican, and had a Papal audience. Argentina recently legalized abortion– but the Vatican reported that this subject was not discussed, at the Papal audience. Also, last year, President Fernandez likewise visited the Vatican and Pope Francis, and brought along his mistress, whom he lives with– he is separated from his wife. Nobody, not even the Pope, said a word about that, to the President.
And worst of all– Argentinian Bishop Sorondo, President of the Pontifical Academies of Science and Social Science– celebrated a special Mass with Fernandez and his mistress present, at the Tomb of St. Peter– the holiest place in the Vatican– and gave them both Holy Communion.
From Saint Faustina’s Diary:
72 O Jesus, eternal Truth, our Life, I call upon You and I beg Your mercy for poor sinners. O Sweetest Heart of my Lord, full of pity and unfathomable mercy, I plead with You for poor sinners. O Most Sacred Heart, Fount of Mercy from which gush forth rays of inconceivable graces upon the entire human race, I beg of You light for poor sinners. O Jesus, be mindful of Your own bitter Passion and do not permit the loss of souls redeemed at so dear a price of Your most precious Blood. O Jesus, when I consider the great price of Your Blood, I rejoice at Its immensity, for one drop alone would have been enough for the salvation of all sinners. Although sin is an abyss of wickedness and ingratitude, the price paid for us can never be equaled. Therefore, let every soul trust in the Passion of the Lord, and place its hope in His mercy. God will not deny His mercy to anyone. Heaven and earth may change, but God’s mercy will never be exhausted. Oh, what immense joy burns in my heart when I contemplate Your incomprehensible goodness, O Jesus! I desire to bring all sinners to Your feet that they may glorify Your mercy throughout endless ages.
A long time ago, I was helping in the Cathedral sacristy, while preparing for a special Mass, and saw several prominent clerics discussing a terrible situation, in which a bishop of another Diocese was being put in jail, for horrific crimes of sex abuse of priests, seminarians, and a few teenage boys. Well, some of them said, that it’s not right to put a priest or a bishop in jail. I said, “hey, wait a minute. He has been caught in the act of committing horrific crimes. No man is above the law– Christ would say that. This man has committed horrific crimes, and should be man enough to take the consequences for what he did. He should go to jail, stand trial, like all other men– and take the consequences for his crimes. He is not above the law.”
They laughed, and indulged me, in a silly way, again saying, “no, a priest or a bishop should never go to jail. That’s wrong.” Finally, I said, “Did you know, that even if you saw your own mother go and rob a bank, you have to turn her in to the police, before the Law, and before God, too? Or else, you will be in big trouble, for lying, covering up a terrible crime, “aiding and abetting a criminal,” and obstructing Justice. They will then come after you, and charge you, and put you in jail.” They laughed and replied, “No, you should always protect your mother, never turn her in to the police.” I was horrified. I said, “What?? You have got to have a good moral conscience.” That is as far as I dared to go. We all had an important Mass soon starting. They all just laughed, stating that I was wrong. Later, we all saw the horrific news reports when they began to come out, of all the cases of horrific child clergy sex abuse! Some of those famous clerics I talked to that day, are now deceased. Oh, they upset me.
