Dear Pastors, Parochial Administrators, Parish Stewards, Schools Administrators, and Agency Directors:
Each year, I publish a salary adjustment guideline that serves as the standard guideline for lay employees and priests employed by our parishes, schools, agencies, and administrative office of the diocese. Catholic school teacher salaries will be addressed in a separate communication. For all other lay employees and all priests, I offer the following guideline for 2018/2019 salary adjustments:
For lay employees, a 2.5% increase.
For all priests a 2.5% increase with years-of-service step increase.
I have decided upon this guideline after considering various economic factors including the change in the cost of living over the last year and the current state of the economy.
Respectfully,
+Jaime Soto
Bishop of Sacramento

I believe the Book says a worker is entitled to a fair [‘living’??] wage. I would be very interested in seeing what the teachers get. Also how Catholic school wages compare to public schools. I’m pretty sure Catholic school wages are lower, but how much??
How I miss the pre-1970 days when dedicated religious took vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, and devoted their lives to educating the young, nursing the sick, feeding the hungry, for little or no pay. They were motivated by love of Christ and fellow man, not a paycheck with benefits.
