Father Joseph Illo, pastor of Star of the Sea in San Francisco, gave a 15-minute homily on Sunday, Sept. 19. He began by mentioning the feast of Padre Pio on September 23 and how he, Father Illo, was pulled over the barricades at St. Peter’s at Padre Pio’s canonization by an older Italian woman.
After explaining the victory of Our Lady of the Rosary at the Battle of Lepanto in the 16th Century, Father Illo urged parishioners to join in processing from Star of the Sea to the October 2 Rosary Rally at St. Mary’s cathedral.
15-second excerpt: “The invaders today do not come on ships with scimitars. But they come through our children’s smart phones and through the school curricula. The barbarians who threaten the just civil order today do so today dressed in Brooks Brothers suits.”
Fr. Illo is swimming upstream in the fouls of San Francisco, pray for him and all those who fight the good fight.
Sometimes the enemy has the letters “SJ” appended to his name.
Ok I watched the 15 minute homily. It is a great homily. Watch it please everyone.
I cannot walk with him to the Cathedral Plaza on October 2. But if you can please do.
5 different parishes are walking there.
What a witness!
I love San Francisco.
Last year there were 1000 people who did this according to sfgate.
This 15 second excerpt is the low point of the homily. The invaders are coming from a lot more places than that and I don’t think they wear suits.
Watch the homily.
Padre Pio, the Rosary, Father Illo’s experience at the canonization of Padre Pio, the Scripture.
Pray, hope and don’t worry.
Imagine if the Catholic Church was an ocean of peace in this turbulent, agitated world. Let’s try to make it so.
St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Saint of the Day, pray for us
More than half of Americans do not go to Church. I was looking for the number of Americans who have never been in a Church. I can’t find anyone that has done that survey.
They are not barbarians. They are the unchurched.
