The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops announced yesterday that public sessions for its 2025 Fall Plenary Assembly will be livestreamed Nov. 11 and 12. . The bishops will also elect chairmen for six USCCB committees.
Some of the private executive sessions not live streamed will include ongoing implementation of the synodal process, discussion of how to live out Laudato Si’, and development of the lay apostolate.
From Catholic Vote

It’s interesting that some of the private executive sessions not live streamed will include ongoing implementation of the synodal process, discussion of how to live out Laudato Si’, and development of the lay apostolate. I hope the bishops will be in serious conversation with the lay faithful, especially about their indispensable role in the life of the Church. Let us pray.
I think I’ll go for a walk outside in a forest instead.
The USCCB, for one thing, should all stand firmly for Catholic teaching, and not allow any of their members to deviate from true Catholic teaching– no Communion for wayward, pro-abort Catholics, those in false marriages, cohabitation, adultery with mistresses, gay unions, and others ineligible to receive the Eucharist. No gay “Pride” Masses, “Pride” flags, LGBT and transgender groups, “gay families;” and promotion of their ideology allowed in Catholic churches, schools, colleges and seminaries. No Catholic schools and colleges with deviant anti-Catholic professors, programs, books and educational materials, and curriculums. No promotion of premarital sex, birth control, abortion, gay “lifestyle” and gay “unions,” transgenderism, Planned Parenthood, and assisted suicide/euthanasia. No deviant, immoral Catholic hospitals with anti-Catholic medical teaching and practices. Catholic prelates refusing to comply with upholding Catholic teachings should be kicked-out and “fired” by the Pope.
The beliefs of the Pope and USCCB on migration are incorrect and destructive. They need to be ignored. The concepts of Pope Leo XIII were much better. I believe the Pope should publicly denounce evil regimes forcing persecuted people to leave, and get our Church leaders to work with these governments for political change, and adoption of Christian principles of fairness and equality, and help improve the lives of all of their citizens. No one should be forced to leave their homeland.
You’re not allowed to go against the pope and bishops. They are the teachers of the church. Ordained by Christ to guide the Church toward the truth. Christ appointed Peter the pope. Christ gave Peter the keys to the kingdom. Whatever he loosed on earth was loosed in heaven and same for whatever he binded. Now Leo has Peter’s keys to the kingdom. Whatever he says goes.
I agree that the Church, being universal, should work to improve the lives of all in their home nations. That said, where are the statements of the Pope or the USCCB wrong? The Pope should not be too readily dismissed, if you’re a Catholic. The US bishops teach that we have a duty to welcome refugees (as the Bible also teaches) and that a nation should secure its borders. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. As with many things Catholic, it’s not either/or, it’s both/and. See the Catechism of the Catholic Church # 2241. I agree that Pope Leo XIII wrote some great, important and still relevant things. But, none of those are contradicted by our bishops or Pope Leo XIV, as far as I know. For a thought provoking article on this, check out:

You say that because you disagree. What’s to stop someone who thinks the beliefs of the pope and USCCB on homosexuality and gay marriage are incorrect and destructive from ignoring those?
Why do you get to ignore teachings you don’t like but the gays don’t get to ignore other teachings that they don’t like?
The Pope and USCCB should NOT support illegal immigrants who break a country’s laws, who kill, bring drugs and human trafficking into a country— and many other evils. Now, many countries are struggling to stop Muslim Sharia laws from beimg implemented– very harmful. Migration should be done with respect for God and for other nations. The Pope and his top prelates should heavily pressure countries with terrible, anti-Christian, dictator regimes, who exploit, kidnap and kill their citizens, and suppress religious beliefs and practices– and harm Catholic clergy and laity– to end their terrible evils. The Pope should try hard to help his suffering Catholic clergy and laity in China, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nigeria, etc. No one should be forced to migrate and leave their homeland, because conditions are so evil.
In Caracas, Venezuela, a huge Mass and celebration had been originally planned, to celebrate Venezuela’s first two saints, canonized by Pope Leo recently. However, Pres. Nicolas Maduro and his corrupt regime attempted to take control of the event, by filling the stadium to be used for this event, with government supporters of Maduro’s corrupt regime, to dominate the Mass and celebrations– turning the holy event into a corrupt political rally. So the Archdiocese cancelled the event, with an excuse. Not fair. Venezuelan Catholics should be able to proudly celebrate their new saints, and have a good government, supportive of their people. None of them should be forced into migration and exile. Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, criticized Maduro– but the Pope and Parolin ought to do more, for suffering Venezuelans and their Catholic clergy. Same thing, for suffering Catholic clergy and laiity in other corrupt countries.
In reply to the reply to me and a couple others: Where have the US bishops or Pope Leo ever supported those who break a country’s laws, kill, and traffick humans and drugs, among many other evils, as you claim? They have not. I’m open to being corrected, if you can provide documentation of such. You’re entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. (None of the relativistic, “my” truth or “your” truth.”) As the late Charlie Kirk said, “Prove me wrong.” I support a secure border and humane treatment of all persons we encounter. More importantly, and relevant here, that’s what I’ve heard bishops say. And, I don’t hide behind anonymity because I stand where the Church has stood for millennia.
Maduro has 800 political prisoners in Venezuela. Nicaragua is a horror for persecuted Catholic clergy and laity. And many are suffering terribly– with little help from the Pope and Vatican– in China. Of course, migrants — especially, persecuted refugees– should be treated with fairness, dignity, love, and compassion. And foreign criminals should be expelled. But many Catholic clergy and laity seem to be abandoned– with little done to help them with horrific human rights and religious liberty violations, in too many corrupt countries. I think our government, as well as the Pope and Vatican, should do more to try to fight corrupt governments sending people into exile from their homelands. Muslim extremists in African and Middle Eastern countries are persecuting and killing Christians daily. Muslim immigrants present a terrible problem in Western countries, with Sharia law, women with faces totally covered, child marriages, persecution of girls and women, etc.– and some have polygamous marriages and children.
The Pope and many in the USCCB fail to mention the problem of illegal aliens and criminals amongst the poor and suffering immigrants who are trying to enter a country legally, who are good and decent people. We seldom hear, from these clerics, sermons and speeches warning people about this problem– and strongly condemning terrible sins and crimes— and strongly warning the poor and vulnerable, to stay far away from evil migrant smugglers, human traffickers, etc. All we seem to see, is the Pope and many bishops condemning countries trying to do what is right with immigration laws.
I don’t think our bishops are the only ones, yet, earlier this year, they addressed us in an open letter:
“To the People of God in Texas,
The bishops of Texas will continue to work with governmental officials and other
people of good will to implement policies that recognize the dignity of every person,
prioritize family unity, and address the root causes of forced migration, while
respecting the right and responsibility of our country to secure its borders, regulate
immigration in an orderly process, maintain the rule of law, and keep its communities
safe and peaceful.”
We’re called to both, caring for our own and refugees.
Making homemade lasagna that day sounds good to me.
Does your group home allow you to cook?
Look at all the white skin in that picture. Such a diverse church.
Jesus was a Jew. His Twelve Apostles were Jews. Catholic bishops are in the line of Apostolic Succession– originating from their Jewish Master and Rabbi, Jesus. You and I, and all of us, are all Gentiles. Does that bother you? Our religion, Holy Bible, holy Mass and Sacraments, all come from Christ and His ancient Jewish religion. Are you anti-Semitic? And anti-White? Christ in our Holy Communion– Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity– is 100% Jewish!!
but I bet you (just an expression) there are more brown eyes in that group than blue or green. In Japan. Latin America, the Philippines, Africa and many other countries you will find more dark- haired, dark- eyed bishops. Is that unfair? Also many of the bishops of the other rites in the Church, such as Byzantine, are not lily white but more middle eastern looking. Should we count to make sure?
Never watch the sausage being made.
On Nov. 7, the Supreme Court will have a meeting to decide whether to accept a case brought by former Kentucky County Ckerk, Kim Davis, seeking to overturn the 2015 landmark ruling of Obergefell vs. Hodges, guaranteeing the right to same-sex “marriage,” nationwide. I hope Kim Davis’ case is accepted, and hope she wins! I also hope the Supreme Court will prohibit gay adoptions, for the safety and well-being of children. It is important for the USCCB to stand behind Traditional (one man-one woman) Christian Marriage and the protection of children.
