The following was posted April 29 on the San Jose diocesan website:
The Diocese of San Jose has received reports regarding unauthorized fundraising activities of Father Mauricio Cuesta Pardo, founder of the Misioneros Marianos. Father Cuesta Pardo at various times purports to be from either Colombia or the Diocese of Leon, Nicaragua.
Father Cuesta Pardo does not possess the faculties to minister in the Diocese of San Jose. Likewise, the members of the Misioneros Marianos do not possess the faculties to minister in the Diocese of San Jose, and they are not welcome or to be welcomed within the territory of the Diocese.
Others affiliated with Father Cuesta Pardo and the Misianeras Marianos include, but may not be limited to:
- Father Bernardo Moncada Ballesteros
- Father Wilson Uriel Gonzalez
- Madre (Sister) Yenny Morales
- Jenry/Henry/Enrique Yamid Alarcon
Perhaps a word or two WHY Fr. Pardo is considered unqualified. To Paraphrase Sgt Friday, ‘Just the whole story, M’aam”
Here is the problem: He and his religious order do not have the authorization or faculties for practice of the priesthood in the Diocese of San Jose.
The story appears incomplete. The article only states that he does not habe faculites to minister in the Diocese of Dan Jose.
There is no mention that he does not have faculties to minister in his home diocese, nor does it mention whethrr or not he was validly ordained in a diocese other than Dan Jose.
The article conspicuously omits these items.
Tienen las llaves y no entran pero tampoco dejan entrar, que Dios les perdone por su egoismo y sus calumnias
Father Mauricio Cuesta is an exercist priest from Colombia. Always helped the poor. I met him nine years ago. Up to this date I still keep in touch with him. Our Catholic church invited him to preach. Please ignore all lies said in this site about him.
In my time as pastor of largely Hispanic parishes, priests from outside the diocese came , stayed at the home of a parishioner to fund raise from without the pastor’s permission. When they do have a pastor’s permission, they stay at the rectory, return frequently or communicate with parishioners asking for money. Former associates from outside my diocese would target the wealthier non Hispanic parishioners for money. Organizations like Food for the Poor would bypass normal diocesan procedures for fundraising. It would be helpful to know the whole story, but here are a few examples of how the flock needs to be protected from fleecing.
Yes, this article is useless without the necessary information. Why exactly is this priest and his ministry forbidden in San Jose?
You might try asking the Diocese of San Jose since they are the ones who posted the pronouncement on their website. By the way, Mauricio Cuesta Pardo is also on the list of priests without faculties to celebrate Mass/offer sacraments/preach provided on the website of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
This priest did not go through the proper process to be authorized by the Church for this Diocese. So, there is a warming given, to protect people from possible fraud.
Because he doesn’t have specific authorization from the diocese. Why is this confusing? If you don’t have a license, you’re not authorized to drive. Period. Regardless of whether you know how to drive.
A priest has to to get authorization and faculties from the Bishop of every Diocese he wants to work in. He cannot simply go work in any Diocese he chooses! The Bishop is responsible for all of the priests working in his Diocese!
Don’t forget the”priest” who even filled in at parishes for something like 6 years before being found out that he wasn’t ever ordained. He wasn’t a priest at all. He said mass, baptized and married people, etc. got a lot of money. maybe they are being prudent.
Actually, after working in our Parish Office for many years I learned that there are requisites for Priests, speakers, and anyone wanting to do anything in a Diocese other than their own. They need to contact the Diocese where they want to speak, practice, raise money, etc. and usually present a letter or card stating they have the proper faculties (usually from their Diocese). When they are ok’d by the Diocese they are visiting, then they can proceed to contact the Pastor at the different parishes they wish to go to, unless the Diocese will take care of that. It’s just the way things are done and like the good Father above said, it’s done this way to protect the flock.
Father Mauricio Cuesta Pardo is a member of the CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT in Nicaragua and you can judge by yourself his ministry.
ALERICANGA PADRE MAURICIO CUESTA
Is he validly ordained?
Oh good grief, that tells it all. When are adults going to start acting like adults in the sanctuary.
There are many “wolves” out there masquerading as Catholic ministries. Recently when I was exiting a Walmart store a man approached me and shared that he was collecting money for a ministry dedicated to helping Catholic immigrants from Poland. When I asked him for the name of the parish he attends…he walked away.
“Undocumented” not “unauthorized.” Undocumented fundraising, undocumented ministering, undocumented faculties. What’s not to Welcome?!
Episcopal NIMBYs. Who knew?
The priests you are talking about are highly respected in some countries like Colombia and Nicaragua. They are itinerant missionaries, and they are charismatic. Perhaps you don’t know them and their works yet. They go abroad wherever they are invited and what they do is admirable. Father Moncada is a youtuber and in Vidas que dan fruto (Lives that bear fruit), has been presenting amazing testimonies of lives transformed by the power of Jesus. They have been instruments of God for many people.
The problem is money, very notorious in the comments from the beginning, they are trying to protect the people for no giving their money to other priest, basically if you read between lines they are not welcome because they are collecting money and that money is not going to the right pockets. Turning the House of the Lord in a market.
