The following comes from a June 6 item on the website of the Washington Examiner.
Retired Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk, who won a Super Bowl with the team last year, skipped the team’s visit to the White House due to President Obama’s support for Planned Parenthood.
“I have great respect for the office of the presidency but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood,’” Birk, a former Minnesota Viking, told a local Minnesota sports blog. “I’m very confused by [Obama’s] statement,” he explained. “”For God to bless a place where they’re ending 330,000 lives a year? I just chose not to attend.”
Birk said he’s a pro-life Roman Catholic. “Planned Parenthood performs about 330,000 abortions a year,” he said. “I couldn’t endorse that in any way.”
Obama spoke at the national Planned Parenthood conference this year.
“As long as we’ve got to fight to make sure women have access to quality, affordable health care, and as long as we’ve got to fight to protect a woman’s right to make her own choices about her own health, I want you to know that you’ve also got a president who’s going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way,” he said. “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you. God bless America.”

Good for this brave and courageous man. Planned Parenthood does nothing for women, except pump their bodies full of the carcinogenic Birth Control Pill and kill their children for a price. They do not even do mammograms at their facilities. Just call and check your local one to see.
I am so proud of this young man! I hope there is a way he will know about the praise he’s getting all over the internet! If only we had bishops, priests and politicians as courageous.
Oh my goodness! The world will now come to an end.
the sooner the better
We must not forget that even Abraham had a very compassion ate heart and asked the Lord to spare the people because of there being good people amongst them. Because of Good God fearing faithful, the world must go on. Praise God for His mercy on us all.
Too bad Cardinal Dolan didn’t do the same thing at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner.
Very nice piece about a young man following his conscience — rather than just enjoying a photo-op!
Good for him!
This is a good example of what a real man should be. He speaks openly of his Catholicism and pro-life views. He could face condemnation from his team for not pandering to obama but he did it anyway. If the majority of men acted so decisively and fearlessly in defense of God, we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in.
“”For God to bless a place where they’re ending 330,000 lives a year? I just chose not to attend.”
Excellent posts juergensen and Dana. May God continue to bless this very courageous man. This is a fine heroic example of a Catholic man who chose to defend the truth over a three second White House bragging photo op with a President who blesses and endorses baby murdering.
Catherine goes to show us all the power of free will….choosing God’s will over ours is always best. : )
I agree with all the responders here. I sent the article to my grandson who is also a NFL player and here is his response: “Good for him. I’ve played against him many times; I think he is retiring this year. I definitely back him up on that. I’d do the same thing.”
Awesome what team does your grandchild play for, what position?? You must be very proud of him… Matt Birk for Cardinal….
Pops,
Let us hope and pray that your grandson gets the chance to do so.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Hooray! Now even those of us who don’t follow football can stand up and cheer for the home team – or at least one fine young man with morals, standards, and the will to stand up to the President of the United States!
So much power rests in the office presently held by the man who vows he’d kill his grandchild should he or she dare appear unbidden, the same shameless man who cheers for the team that murders babies their mothers don’t want! Still, Matt stood up to him. I cheer for the man with morals!! Yeay, Matt Birk!!!!
Matt has chosen to be on God’s team!! My kind of hero.
Matt went to Harvard and kept his Catholicism, married a lovely gal and has five little Birks. There is hope.
Would love to see Birk run for President so that the NFL owners who love Planned Parenthood can boycott a visit to the White House. I think Birk could block Planned Parenthood better than anyone.
Jack,
Did he go to Harvard while playing football. I don’t believe Harvard even has a Football team.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
This is awesome! We are proud of him! God bless Matt Birk! There is true blessings in this not what Mr. Obama advocates. Obama does not worship the ONE TRUE GOD That we worship!
Standing on principle.
What a refreshing concept!!!
Good Job, All of us need to have these same guts.
Too bad the family of the Catholic Chaplain that was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor did not have the same moral fortitude.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
“As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue”~~~Douay-Rheims Bible 2 Peter 1:3
Sometimes in life we make tough choices and some of those choices may also be easy as well especially when we are standing up for what is right. This builds true Character. One that is honoring God. I trust that God will provide us with more youth that will embrace His graces and stand by what is right and honoring to our Lord. He sets a wonderful example to those who look up to sports. We know that we must speak their language and many speak sports…so this connection with sports, something of the what is popular today, is needed to make a strong point, one that can reach many more. Our prayers are not going in vein, our Lord loves us very much.
God’s love is unending. Can you look up in the open sky and see/feel God smiling but it’s different for those many others….for those who choose death…they don’t see or feel. They are the walking dead amongst us but our Lord is the God of the living. So life belongs to God almighty. For the envious souls who want to take life away, they are envy as great as the evil one, for they want to own life….BUT Never! God IS the owner of all life.
Good for Matt Birk. He has the courage of his convictions, Now, if only the Bishops would find their courage. Stop inviting Pro Abort Governors to religious events, stop inviting pro aborts and other America subversives to functions held in Catholic Churches or on Catholic Campuses. Defrock pseudo CAtholic Nuns who stand with Obama on health care and end of life terminations through DNR type documents.
What a tremendous role model for our young people this world class athlete is…. Every parent should be explaining to their kids what courage and commitment Matt displayed in the face of the main stream which tends to pass off third rate celebs as American Idols.
