Governor Newsom and the Legislature have invested $110 million into anti-hate programs.
In response to a rise in hate crimes and at the start of Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Governor Gavin Newsom, along with the California Civil Rights Department (CRD), today, announced the official launch of CA vs Hate, a new multilingual statewide hotline and website that provides a safe, anonymous reporting option for victims and witnesses of hate acts. CA vs Hate is in direct response to the rise in reported hate crimes in California, which in recent years, reached their highest levels since 2001 – jumping almost 33% from 2020 to 2021.
“Here in California, we are sending an unequivocal message that hate will not be tolerated,” said Governor Newsom. “We stand firm for a California for All and it is important that we hold perpetrators accountable for their actions and provide resources for those individuals victimized by hate crimes. Now, Californians have another tool to ensure that not only justice is served, but that individuals have access to additional resources to help deal with the lingering wounds that remain after such a horrendous crime occurs.”
“In California, our diversity is what makes the nation’s most populous state a beautiful and vibrant community,” said First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom at an event in Sacramento launching this new program. “It’s horrifying that hate crimes are on the rise, and so let it be made clear: we stand with our diverse communities, and we are committed to ensuring they feel safe and heard. There is no room here for bigotry and hate-fueled violence.”
Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) started the conversation to create a state hotline to report hate crimes in 2021 – this program will help individuals and communities targeted for hate including Asian Americans, Latinos, Black Americans, LGBTQ+ individuals, religious minorities, and other communities that make up California’s diversity and strength. Hotline services are confidential and provided for free, regardless of immigration status. These services are offered in a culturally competent manner and will help people identify options and next steps after a hate incident or hate crime has occurred. Hate acts can be reported in 15 different languages through the online portal and in over 200 languages when calling the hotline.
“With the launch of the Ca vs Hate Resource Line and Network, we unequivocally state that there is no home or place for hate in California,” said Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary Lourdes Castro Ramírez. “We are doubling down on our commitment to combat hate by embracing the strength of our diversity and empowering Californians with resources and support to prevent and end hate in all forms.”
“California is strong because of our diversity but hate-fueled violence remains a persistent and growing threat,” said CRD Director Kevin Kish. “With the launch of CA vs Hate, we’re taking action to help put a stop to hate and to provide support for victims, survivors, and their families. In the face of hate across the nation, we stand united in declaring: California is for everyone. I urge all Californians to know their rights and to take advantage of these important resources.”
The hotline will also be complemented by a multilingual outreach campaign, emphasizing community engagement. The campaign aims to support efforts that encourage reporting and access to resources through targeted public service announcements, direct marketing, and other activities. CA vs Hate also seeks to overcome reporting challenges – whether due to fear of retaliation, lack of trust, or other issues – by offering people targeted for hate a community-centered approach that does not require engagement with the criminal legal system.
The CA vs Hate Resource Line and Network is a non-emergency, multilingual hate crime and incident reporting hotline and online portal. Reports can be made anonymously by calling (833) 866-4283, or 833-8-NO-HATE, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT or online at any time. For individuals who want to report a hate crime to law enforcement immediately or who are in imminent danger, please call 911. For more information on CA vs Hate, please visit CAvsHate.org.
From governor’s office release.
That’s funny… Democrats hate Christians and conservatives. Saying they’re against hate is false. Democrats use “hate” as a code word for dissenting opinions from leftist ideology, especially gay and trans ideology. You disagree with gay and trans? Oh, you must be a hater. You must hate them. If you disagree with a Democrat, they label you a hater, and they label your disagreement as hate speech. Even if you don’t say anything because you simply choose to remain silent instead of expressing your disagreement, you can still be labeled a hater because “silence is violence.” See how it works? See what they do? Democrats are the new Communists. Oh, and Democrats hate babies and large families.
the snitch system in Cuba has been one of the most horrible things about life in Cuba. Neighbors regularly abuse it to get back at neighbors over petty issues and probably gain favored standing with the unyielding communist police. You can be sure that the called-in names will go into a database that will be merged with some sort of identity profile that will be picked up by other agencies. Will a hotline ‘ hate court ‘ need to be established to deal with the flood of calls that will ensue? Being able to handle calls in 200 languages would be effortless for an automated system, but with staffers sounds like the beginning of a new bloated bureacracy.
The first thing we need to do is to report the State of California and the Governor for all of its hate and hate language against conservatives and other minorities.
Thank you, drewelow. That is so eye-opening, it’s scary.
This is not snitching to the police.
You probably will not know the name of the person who does it.
I was on an airplane from San Francisco shortly after the 2016 election and some lady stood up in the center aisle and just ranted about Trump.
Imagine somebody doing something like that on public transportation and having it be about Asians or Catholics or cisgendered people.
It was kind of scary. She eventually just sat down and it was over.
You don’t know how it is going to end until it ends and it makes kind of anxious.
Everybody just let her say whatever she wanted to say which is probably why it did not escalate.
“Here in California, we are sending an unequivocal
message that hate will not be tolerated,” said Governor Newsom.
Does this mean he hates ‘hate?”
Is that kosher?
How about an example of LGBTQ hate? A man in Florida spoke up at a school board meeting about his straight son being bullied by LGBTQ students because the son didn’t wear rainbow colors at school for a “pride” event. The school did not support the bullied student. After the father spoke up, LGBTQ fanatics harassed him and his employer, made false accusations, and got him fired.
That’s hate, and it’s from the left. Over 90% of the hate in this country is from the left directed at the right.
Diversity is not a strength. It’s perversity.
Within your comment you lay the groundwork for its own demise. If all you need is “an example”, then it probably isn’t true that “over 90% of the hate in this country is from the left directed at the right”. You wouldn’t need “an example”, you would have abundant statistics, which you don’t.
Secondly, again, here is a bullying issue that gets accelerated to a school board and then to the press, instead of the way almost every other bullying incident is (and should be) handled: Between school staff and the student. If it needs acceleration, the parents and administrators are brought in. Not the school board. And certainly not the press. It is likely the “example” is not as simple as this. The kid who refused to wear rainbow clothing probably didn’t just do so passive, but probably was saying things and doing things far worse. Which might be why the “school” did not support the “bullied” student.
Thirdly, if my chid was the bully and someone accelerated this issue out from under a private disciplinary matter and into a public forum like a school board, you better bet I’d take it up with the guy. You ruin my kid’s future because your kid can’t be bothered to follow instructions and your gonna make a federal case out of it, yeah, I might just have to take it up with you.
That’s not hate. That is self defense.
Oh, that’s rich. The Left attacks and then plays the victim then the right responds.
YFC, you ought to know right from wrong– especially if you deem yourself to be a fellow Catholic. It is totally wrong for children to be forced to wear politically-related clothing to school. And for children to be forced to wear LGBT clothing items to school, is a terrible sin– for Catholics, all Christians, and for everyone. This should all be strictly illegal. Children must be protected from the filthy and dangerous LGBT lifestyle, celebrated during Pride events, and protected from dangerous pedophiles, and gay sex acts. If you are a good and decent Catholic father, you want your children to follow Jesus Christ. As for bullying– yes, everyone knows well, the extremely immoral Left has severely bullied our nation and all others, even with bombs and death threats, to force their agendas. You should not make up scenarios about this unjust case of bullying, with preposterous, wrongful results, nor say that the bullying children, in this case, were probably defending themselves against non-existent bullying taunts, of an innocent child. That innocent child, who may be a Catholic, other Christian, or similar– simply did not want to conform to wrongful, evil, unjust demands at the school. In this case, no doubt– that innocent child, obedient to God, was the victim of the LGBT bullies.
It is not a sin to wear a Pride shirt or a rainbow anything. Where did you ever hear that?
This is America. We don’t ban clothes.
The rainbow stickers do not stand for sodomy; they stand tor safety.
Don’t wear one. You would be lying.
No school should ever force innocent children to wear LGBT politically-themed clothing. You must never victimize an innocent child this way.
My comment of May 15th at 12:26pm was edited. The LGBT culture is extremely immoral, sinful, extremely inappropriate for children, and a great danger to little ones. It is a responsibility of adults in charge, to protect nnocent little children from all dangers and immorality.
It is the other way around. Kids wearing pride shirts or rainbow stickers are victimized. Maybe not in California, but that is recent. I know a young lady who in 2012 was joining the Gay Straight Alliance and it was controversial. it was a very small group and she did a lot for gay and trans students to be accepted.
That was just 10 years ago.
I accidentally gave a thumbs up. Meant just to read it.
Dear perversity, Florida made the news for having a “don’t say gay” law so it is hard to believe your story. This law has been in place for 2 years.
I could not find any incident like that when I googled but I found a lot of examples of LGBT students or parents being harassed and one even “brutally beaten.”
I believe in diversity and am opposed to hate. Can we call the hotline to report hate against traditional Catholics, those who have “detransitioned,” ex-gays, white males, firearms owners, conservatives, hunters, Tea Party members, parents who dared to have more than two children and rednecks?
Ex gays- yes
white males- yes, yes
On the others, it does not really fit the purpose, but maybe you should call anyway. They may need to include that and not realize it.
If you are just going about your life and someone comes up and is threatening to you, I think you should report it.
Is someone bothering you?
call, yes, I’m very bothered by famous public hypocrites who declare their cities “sanctuary” cities where all are welcome, until some people in need actually show up. They then ship them out (just like those they condemn, who, however, never declared their states “sanctuaries”). Blatant hypocrisy bothers me, but, apparently, not most people. Other than that, I’m okay, provided I pray daily, receive the sacraments, read the Scriptures and love others.
Thanks for asking.
I am glad that you are not being threatened or harassed.
As for the hypocrisy, keep praying. And loving.
Hoping the entire state crumbles into the pacific or Mexico completes its reconquest
The reconquest has already happened. (Laughter.) Spain had it first. Notice all the Mexican (and some so-called native American Indians) with Spanish surnames. I once was sitting next to a Mexican American coworker at a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Someone on the stage told how the Mexicans in Mexico killed off all the French invaders. I looked at her and said, “Except the ones they married,” and we both laughed. I could tell she had as much Spanish or French blood as she had Indio. I have relatives mixed with Indio and French who have more French blood than I do.
I did not use the word “Indio” as an insult, It was originally just a word used to describe a purely indigenous person of the Americas, but some later used it as an insult. That is true of just about every word used to describe different ethnic groups. It starts off nicely and ends up badly. “Oriental” used to be the polite word to describe a person from the Orient than became an insult for some reason and was changed to “Asian” And on and on it goes.
So true. Now, the word “lady” is an insult, that’s why Newsom’s wife refers to herself as “First Partner” instead of “First Lady.” Perhaps for another reason: She’s the first unelected partner-governor the state. She rules us in tandem with – or behind – the governor.
Or maybe for another reason: She considers it offensive that she’s a biological female, preferring instead, the word “partner” which is gender neutral.
Oh, great. One of these days, to avoid offending the easily-offended woke crowd (a hate crime in itself), we will be mandated to address each other in the gender-neutral “Comrade,” because using the words “Lady,” “Gentleman,” “Mr.”, “Mrs.,” “Mlss”, “Ms.” “Mom,” “Dad,” “Son” and “Daughter,” indicating biological genders and is a grave hate-crimes.
No offense. Question: is that great Mexican beer “Indio” still available in Cali? Haven’t seen it nor drank it in decades now.
I have not seen any Indio beer sold, but there is a lot of cerveza, Sir Vesa, on the market. I would avoid Bud Light and Anhauser-Bush (Spelling ?) though.
It seems Safeway sells it, Sir Vesa, but I have never drunk it. My husband was buying Corona when all the silly people thought Corona Beer was connected to the Corona virus. Needless to say, we are both still alive and have never had COVID.
Please save some for me…
If you stop praying that all Californians crumble into the sea, some might manage to do that, bohemond. As the coast goes down some of us might be able to send out an SOS on a barge of beer as reward for our rescue. (Laughter.)
Bud has long been a plague
to us “cultured” beer guzzlers;
it just took this tranny incident
to bring it to Light.
The reason this is necessary is that many people from Asian countries don’t like to call the police and many of them cannot speak English well enough to report. Wasn’t there a lady who was attacked leaving Church in SF?
Instead of just making the hotline for Asians, they are making it for everyone.
How can you complain about this?
“How can you complain about this?” What may work for Asians in a just manner could well work against Christians who stand against the LGBTQ+ juggernaut and who are thereby deemed punishable by Newsom’s thought police. There is no reason why the thought police can’t read my comments or those of others here and declare us guilty of hate– and who knows– close down Cal Catholic as a cesspool of incorrect thinking. Or they could pressure the editors to censor any thoughts with which they disapproved, which, by most any metric, would be most of them.
It seems to me that Newsom has spearheaded this in order to further his political ideas and political advancement. His target are those on the right (double entendre intended) with whom he disagrees, since from his perch, that is, his moral high ground, he can only view the haters as coming from that direction, with the objects of hate being his political allies in the LGBTQ+ cultural tsunami. Just as the left holds racism the provenance of whites and never blacks, so hate is defined solely as the tool of Christians but never the tool of the left, no matter how many churches or crises pregnancy centers are vandalized, or jobs lost for upholding Christian principles.
That is not what this is about.
“That is not what this is about.” I hope you are right; I fear you are wrong. Let see.
They should learn English. Everyone living in the US should be fluent in English. Government elites, mostly Democrats, have sown the seeds of this country’s destruction with open immigration. There’s nothing significant unifying us as a nation anymore. Borders, Language, Culture, as a radio host has said.
God bless the USA.
The land of the free.
Which includes the freedom to speak English and any other of the over 350 languages spoken in the USA.
There is no official language in the US. Most people do speak English.
Si, no. Pero, the state of California does have an official language. The 1986 Proposition 63, titled Official State Language, was a proposition in the state of California on the November 4, 1986 ballot. The ballot initiative created Article III, Section 6 of the California Constitution and made English the official language of the state. The measure passed by a 74% margin.
Some, however, wonder is Gavin Newsom is proposing an(other) official state language, wokeism. What are your preferred pronouns?
What is supposed to unite us is a belief that all men are created equal.
There have been and continue to be many failures.
Treat others as you want to be treated.
I am Asian myself and appreciate the kind thought. Thank you, but this program is very dangerous.
Will it replace the judicial system? Will people who are reported to the hotline be considered guilty without a chance to prove innocence? Exactly what constitutes a hate crime?
Will it be a hate crime to disagree with the idea of a million-dollar reparation payment for each Black resident of the state? Will it be a hate crime to point out illegal aliens surging through the southern border are actually breaking the law? Can I be arrested for holding a prayer vigil in front of the Planned Parenthood clinic because I hate abortion? Can people who disagree with the current woke ideology of transgenderism be accused of transphobia, which is a hate crime?
I don’t know, but I think it is a dangerous program. Was this law passed unilaterally by both houses in the state congress, approved by the judiciary, or is it an executive order from the partnership governor, like the pandemic lockdown?
California vs Hate is not run by the police. Your report will not be shared with law enforcement without your consent. We will only connect you with law enforcement if you request it. Our team can share information about how to report to police or local prosecutors if needed.
California vs Hate will also identify civil legal options that don’t involve the criminal legal system, both through the Civil Rights Department and other agencies
This is not the thought police.
It is a victim’s support hotline.
My, how very Third Reich of him.
How Reich you are!!!
The governor’s office itself actually called his wife “First Partner.” (Sex partner, tennis or bridge partner?) Why not First Spouse? They are married, well, at least in the eyes of state law, since they got married at her parents’ ranch in Montana. I don’t think the Diocese of Helena permits Catholic weddings at ranches. She is described as the “current First Partner” of Governor Newsom and was an actress who said she was raped by Harvey Weinstein (the jury did not render a verdict). Does anyone know if she has any religious background? How can our tyrannical and evil governor keep claiming to be a good Catholic?
Does being a Catholic mean anything anymore?
She is not his first spouse.
More evidence that the Left wants to do away with marriage. Partners are temporary. Spouses are (or should be) lifelong. The Left hates marriage because marriage is a conservative institution.
Gavin Newsom didn’t get married in the Catholic Church. Carol Simone, a goofball New Age leader, who has done many San Francisco weddings at City Hall, was the officiant of the wedding of Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel. Carol Simone also gave the invocation for Gavin Newsom, when he was sworn in as Mayor of San Francisco. That’s “San Fran-Sicko!”
He got married to his first wife in the Catholic Church so he could not marry his second wife in the Catholic Church without an annulment.
Gavin Newsom and Kimberly Guilfoyle got married at St. Ignatius Church, at USF, in 2001. The media dubbed it “the social event of the year,” and hailed them as the “new liberal power couple.” The marriage didn’t last long. They filed for divorce in 2005.
Interesting point. But, she’s probably not his first “partner” either. How about the title Current Empress?
yeah…that’s rich…’hate hotline’…. more like ‘resistance hotline’….
The traditional title is First Lady. She wanted to be called First Partner.
To refer to Mrs. Newsom as Gov. Newsom’s “First Partner,” is all wrong. She is not Gov. Newsom’s business partner, tennis partner, nor his concubine. This terrible insult to the governor’s wife should not be allowed, by law. Sounds like a mistress, not a wife. And his children also deserve for their mother to be honored, too, as the First Lady. Just imagine Gov. Newsom introducing his wife as the “First Partner,” to various groups and dignitaries. A dishonor to the institution of Marriage. Did the Newsoms choose this ridiculous title, in honor of woman-hating feminists– or in honor of gay couples, who often refer to their lovers and spouses, as “partners?” That’s San Fran-Sicko.
Yes. Jennifer Siebel Newsom chose the title for herself. The article explains why.
White squaw – heap wierd!!!
This is a great example of hate.
What is funny to the hater is not funny to the ethnic group that he mocks.
It is an ethnic and sexual slur.
If Gov Gav divorces wife #2,
(like he did w/#1) could that be
characterized as “dissolving the partnership?”
And, I wanna be called “Your Royal HIghness.” We don’t always get what we want.
On June 16th, the L.A. Dodgers will partner with L A. Pride for their 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night, at Dodgers’ Stadium, presented by Blue Shield of California. At the pre-game event, a Community Hero Award will be presented to the L.A. chapter of the anti-Catholic Drag Queen-dressed group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. I think this is just terrible! A grievous insult also, to any Dodgers’ team members and fans, who may be Catholic! Fans have to pay money, for tickets to the game. And their games are broadcasted on all the media. This grievous insult to the Catholic Church, is religious bigotry, extremely offensive! I believe strongly that all religious bigotry and persecution should be illegal, worldwide!
How can a good American father– especially, a Catholic father– proudly pay for tickets, and take his sons to the Dodgers’ games anymore?
I would put an end to all athletic teams who do such horrors as the Dodgers. They all ought to go bankrupt. American boys should never see professional athletes honoring filth and religious bigotry, in sick men dressed as anti-Catholic, nun-mocking Drag Queens. American boys need real manly heroes to look up to, presented to the public and honored, by pro athletic teams. Father’s Day, June 18th, is two days after the Fri. June 16th LGBTQ+ Dodgers’ game event, with the Drag Queens. It’s time to leave California for good.
Two Congressmen, Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R) Calif., and Sen. Roger Marshall (R) Kansas– recently introduced two bills in Congress, one of them prohibiting medical experimentation on children– such as transgender sex changes– and the other, prohibiting taxpayer funds for such medical experimentation, including transgender sex changes. Hope these two bills get passed, and become laws.
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home – so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm, or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman and child seek equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerned citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world (Eleanor Roosevelt, 1958).”
Since 1958, we have recognized the lack of justice, opportunity, dignity and discrimination in many homes.
Even among people of your own race, there is discrimination.
There used to be 4 colors that were used to designate race: white, red, yellow and black. Brown has been added because darker white people don’t necessarily want to be lumped in with the dominant white culture.
Colorism is very prevalent among blacks. Chris Rock said Meghan Markle won the light skinned lottery (so she has no right to complain) Many light skinned black people are treated poorly by other black people.
Do you remember when Trump was President and Nancy Pelosi was leaving a press conference and someone asked her if she hated Donald Trump. She came unglued. She came back into the room and shook her finger at him. She said “I don’t hate anybody. I was raised in a Catholic house. We don’t hate anybody, not anybody in the world. And don’t you accuse me of hating.” He said “I did not accuse you.” She said “You did. You did. You did.”
Older people especially Christians and Catholics hear the word “hate” much differently than younger people.
Behavior or statements that degrade an individual on the basis of their race, ethnicity, culture, heritage, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, physical/mental attributes or religious beliefs or practices shall not be tolerated and may be considered hate-motivated” speech or hate-motivated behavior. A “hate-motivated comment” or “bias incident” is biased conduct, speech, or expression that has an impact, but does not involve a criminal action (described above).
Online hate is just negative comments.
i HATE negative comments
