Governor Gavin Newsom announced last week plans to transfer $521,000 from the state Rapid Response Reserve Fund to Catholic Charities of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to assist asylum seekers from Central America.
“California is a state of refuge,” said Newsom in a statement. “As the federal government demonizes legal asylum seekers, communities are coming together in California to assist those fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries. Our state sends deep appreciation to the faith leaders, nonprofit organizations and local officials who are organizing humanitarian efforts in communities across Southern California.”

This misguided attitude is why I give nothing to Catholic Charities or Peter’s Pence. I donate each Sunday to parishes and found that a nice Amazon Card gift directly to my priests is most welcome on Christmas. This approach supports those that bring me the Mass directly, no Commie intermediaries.
Helping migrants is fine because it is politically advantageous, but Gov. Newsome has no qualms about the slaughter of the unborn. The Democrats are fooling no one when they pretend to care for children and yet sanction the tearing apart of unborn children made in the image of God.
As always there is a right and a wrong way to do something. The correct way would be to go to their local Embassy and apply for asylum, rather than showing up enmasse at US border and expecting to be taken in and absorbed into the USA. Over whelming the country at once is not the correct way to seek asylum, and hopefully citizenship and naturalization. I seriously doubt how many are really seeking to assimilate and become Americans.
Paul Koch, “there is a right and a wrong way.” You are almost correct. There are several ways to something. Going to our Embassy in their country to seek asylum is one way if you are willing to wait for years. If you are escaping from drug gangs out to kill you, it’s better to go to the border. Most of the folks coming to the border are refugees, seeking refuge. I agree that they should want to assimilate and become citizens of the US. They are already Americans.
Paul Koch, it will be helpful when you provide your definition of an assimilated person and what it means to become “Americans.” Not to be cynical, but that is becoming more and more difficult to do. Our country was, at one time, the bright city on the hill because we accepted waves of people seeking refuge, wanting a better life. They came with nothing, they were sheltered by the churches and other agencies, and they moved to towns all over the country. In the end, they defined what “Americans” were, who we are today. Remember?
Our infrastructure is falling down; our roads, streets and freeways are in a mess and constantly in need of repair; businesses are closing all the time, and San Francisco has become a dump with needles, feces and worse on the city streets, and you expect us to bring in hordes of more people. Where are you going to put them? in your home?
“As the federal government demonizes legal asylum seekers, communities are coming together in California to assist those fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries.”
What a liar. CC would be better off without his money. It’s dirty and will have strings attached.
California has unofficially seceded from the union.
Illegal immigration is being used to destroy the culture of California, it is the very definition of human trafficking and CC. No Californian, Catholic or otherwise should support it.
Gavin Newsom is the latest in a long line of sick anti-Catholic liberal politicians educated at Jesuit-run Santa Clara University, following the likes of Leon Panetta, Janet Napolitano and Zoe Lofgren.
