An interfaith prayer service in the cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament to celebrate the convening of the state legislature will be held Monday, January 7 at 9:00 AM.
The event has been orchestrated by pro-abortion open homosexual John Perez, speaker of the state assembly, and is hosted by Bishop Soto.
This event was announced in the Sacramento’s Morning Report which is distributed by e-mail to involved with government in Sacramento.
A flyer was distributed to Sacramento captitol offices that read:
On the occasion of the Convening of the 2013-2015 California State Legislature, Speaker John A. Perez invites you to attend an Interfaith Prayer Service/Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament 1017 11th Street, Sacramento CA 95814/Sponsored by: The Interfaith Council of, Sacramento/Hosted by: Bishop Jaime Soto, Diocese of Sacramento (bold added for emphasis)

How can bishops who kick sand in the faces of faithful Catholics expect to have any respect of the laity? This is outrageous. Why would Bishop Soto kiss up to these faithless and corrupt Democrats? Oh, I know, it’s called “mammon”.
Oh my God! Are you telling me that he is eating with sinners and publicans?
Who cares?
Anyone with a brain cares.
Every Faithful Catholic cares.
No wonder so many catholics are poorly catechized. With behavior like this from a bishop, is it any wonder that so many catholics thought it was ok to vote for Obama. Where I work, 2 catholics voted for Obama, 1, (me) voted for Romney. They both insisted that his support of abortion and “gay” marriage made no difference. Immigration is what was important. I told them without life, everything else is moot, but it made no difference.
Excellent response Delilah. Anyone who voted for Obama or anyone supporting the Democratic “platform” are not “Faithful” Catholics.
I’m so angry at this news…I really feel that this is scandalizing our souls. I have no words to describe the great sadness this news has brought to my being. Maybe later on on this thread, I would be able to speak up. I’m so angry and hurt, no words can describe!
Delilah,
Unless they repent, they will “enjoy” their stay in Hell for Eternity!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Kenneth, both of them stated that it was my personal opinion. I gave them both a Catechism of the Catholic Church for Christmas. Let’s see if they read it. I could give them Fr. Corapi’s DVD series on the CCC if they have difficulty reading the CCC. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
Delilah,
Since there is so much controversy surrounging Fr. Corapi and his subsequent failure to challenge the allegations, I would not suggest giving them his tapes.
Yes, Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us.
I now have the first two banners made of Our Lady of Guadalupe holding four babies that represent the four major Continents with the wording “Abortion Kills Her Children” in both English and Spanish, and hope to have them priced for marketing soon. Please pray that they will be met with success, they are beautiful.
Give your friends a copy of Bishop Paprocki’s statement. If they say it is just his opinion, wipe your feet from their dust and go on to others who will have “ears to hear”.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
You did not get the Memo that a baby in his mothers womb is no concern for a sitting president? Its below the Presidents pay grade.
I wonder if Bishop Soto is as eager to support the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as She requested at Fatima?
Did you read the last secret of Fatima! By Cardinal Bertone with an intro by Pope Benedict XVI? It is worth reading.
I read that book Cathleen, awesome piece of literature! There’s even an unabridged audio version available.
Yes, indeed!
Bishop Soto,
Your hosting of this enemy of morality and of the Church flies in the face of decency. The faithful need true leaders and true soldiers in the cause of Christ, not enablers who encourage those who daily spit in the face of suffering Christ and supporters of those whose sins nailed our Lord to the cross. I am truly surprised and disappointed at you, who arrived here with such promise. Shame upon you, we expected better.
I sent the following to the bishop-
St. Athanasius said “The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.”
Just a Faithful Catholic speaking for the millions of Christ`s babies murdered in the formerly safest and now most dangerous place on earth-the womb. Christ said “ I knew you before you were born“You cause scandal to the Faithful through your honouring of this De Facto murderer and are yourself complicit.Repent and reconcile yourself to our Lord. I am not judging you but your actions which St Paul said i have the authority to do-just ask St Peter.

Canada
Thank you
Gordon Campbell, has hit the nail on the head…
Hope this gets reported to the U.S. Cardinals and the Pope in Rome?
Yes, thank you. Let’s pray very hard for these Bishops who are offending our Dear Lord.
But Gordon, Fatima is something for Traditional Catholics, not for hip, politically correct, Democrat Catholics.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Dear Bishop Soto,
How did this happen? And why? Please cancel this event for Our Church is not to be used this way.
I will pray for you to seek, find and have the courage to follow the Truth.
With concern and respect I write to ask please spend time in a Holy Hour and open your heart and mind to Our Lord Christ Jesus to show you The Way.
Please write directly to his excellency. I don’t think he cares to read articles from this website…
I am shocked. I tell you I am shocked to find out that an American Bishop is in the hip pocket of the party of death – the Democrats. I am positive that this move by Bishop Soto will bring a swift public rebuke from Rome.
In other words, I am an idiot.
Or, could be the Party of Death is in the hip pocket of this bishop. Why are we always depicting such bishops as having been taken for a ride? Power, wealth and sex: It’s a three way contest for these people, and they love it when God is in the audience.
Perhaps the good bishop is planning to use this event as an opportunity to evangelize – let’s pray for that. If some of you attend, please go to be a witness for the truth with a demeanor of love and genuine concern – not piss and vinegar.
This is the “Novus Ordo”, stop being shocked by it!!!
so…JANEK…the MASS in english caused this choice?
interesting notion.
zany, but interesting.
max you can no longer deny it’s fruit! Please stop! being in denial…I use to think like you but one has to admit that those facts are ones we can no longer deny!
No max, had the Tridentine Mass been faitfully translated into English as was approved by the Council, that is all except the Consecration, we most probably would not be having these problems.
Cardinal Ottaviani said it plainly, and my late friend Michael Davies wrote about it, the Novus Ordo is for the most part the Mass of Cranmer , a Mass that many Catholics in England died opposing!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
max writes,
“interesting notion. zany, but interesting.”
max still has the interesting zany notion that he can disrespectfully mock a faithful priest and still expect that his comments should be taken seriously. max, interestingly enough, nuked his own credibility by damaging his own ability to ever really seem sincere. Everything is a humorous joke. He posted that it was good for others to APOLOGIZE in capital letters but he has still failed to do this himself and apologize for such disrespect.
max, You are doing what many of our California bishops are doing. They are also doing many goofy, zany and disrespectful things yet they are still expecting to be taken seriously while they invite or allow active minions for Lucifer’s legislation to pray inside a Sacramento Catholic cathedral . We know that mortal sins do not honor God. When you are actively promoting legislation to commit deadly mortal sins you are not choosing God you are honoring the father of lies. So is this joint prayer service supposed to be jointly honoring Lucifer along with God. This brings new dysfunctional meaning to the words inter-faith, because it gives the scandalous appearance of condoning deadly mortal sin. We know the faith of the devil, it is the faith of “I will not serve.” Talk about cleverly sending out and encouraging the wrong message.
max, I will tell you one thing. During the time in the Church when all Masses were said in Latin the California bishops would surely have never quite as comfortably pulled off many things such as the zany disrespectful stunt to yank up kneeling down Catholics, and the new and current disrespectful “Norm” that has Catholics no longer kneeling down after the Agnus Dei. They have even told the faithful to all remain standing until everyone has received Holy Communion so you don’t show any disrespect for a member of the **community.** Never mind that they have been disrespecting the King of Kings for many years.
Take many years of debasing the Bride of Christ by debasing the reverence that is due to God and what do you get after years and years of debasement?
Another California Bishop who is once again shamefully debasing the Bride of Christ by holding just one more dys-functional show of leadership inside of a Catholic Cathedral.
The Blessed Mother and her son wishes you to forgive the bishop and max
She also wishes they were worth forgiving, no?
Its NOT up to us to forgive but it is up to our Lord. The Lord did say that it was a sin to scandalize the little ones, I’m sure that goes along the line with even the lay faithful of age…
Well, those are interesting responses.
Janek, you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, many (most?) Catholics don’t make the connection.
Amen
Certainly we need to pray fervently and often for our elected leaders, but this doesn’t need to happen via an “Interfaith Prayer Service” organized by the elected leaders themselves–which no doubt will be complete with a traditional Wakan drum circle and prayer wheel. Or conversely, if elected leaders want to hold an Interfaith Prayer Service so badly why does it need to be at the Cathedral and under the sponsorship and endorsement of the Catholic Church? This is not an appropriate use for the Cathedral and the bishop is smart enough to know that.
I suppose this event will be some sort of praise-fest celebrating the Democrats’ new super-majority in both houses?
“bishop is smart enough to know that”: Food for thought.
Lemme get this straight. Y’all are appalled that the Bishop wants to convene an interfaith prayer service for the entire state legislature — Dem and Republican, gay and straight, prochoice and prolife — because the Speaker is gay and doesn’t believe the state should interfere with the choices of women? Huh? I’d think you’d want the state to receive more of the benefits of prayer and the Church, not less.
“Y’all “are one disobedient Catholic. As a Catholic you must follow Church teaching.PLEASE do not consume the Eucharist lest you consume damnation.
“For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself” (1 Cor. 11:27, 29). “To answer for the body and blood” of someone means to be guilty of a crime as serious as homicide.
Stop worshiping the reflection you see in your bathroom mirror for the sake of your soul.
Thank you for this reminder Gordon. The scripture you site is overlooked by many today that believe that everyone is headed for heaven. This reminder will hopefully save souls.
It’s not going to be a Mass. It’s a prayer service. So there won’t be any communion.
Might not be communion in either case, Mousey.
I’m a disobedient Catholic because I defend the Speaker’s right to pray? Really?
max,
You are really showing your ignorance. It just so happens that the USCCB actually issued a Document that forbids having pro-abortion, pro-sodomite public figures from having such events on Catholic property. Learn your facts before you open your mouth!
The “bishops” who ignore that document are showing their disobedience, and they will answer for it to God!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
……Speaker……. doesn’t believe the state should interfere with the choices of women?
Your “choice“ of words reveals your agenda and disobedience. You are not credulous when you use “choice“ instead of MURDER for personal convenience. That is the teaching of the Magisterium.
Refusing to submit to the Authority of the Catholic Church-GRANTED to her by Jesus Christ Himself makes you disobedient and heterodox.
Pride was the 0riginal sin-for the sake of your Salvation-lose Y0URS.
No because you support the slaughter of the unborn…
How, YFC, can a sodomite be a real Catholic? Are you a sinner or a repentant sinner? Do you understand the difference?
Skai: “sodomite”? What does that mean?If you are asking whether a person can be gay and catholic, the answer is an unequivocal “yes”. Even Blessed John Paul II said that gays are in the bosom of the church.
Canisius: You are making things up. I don’t support slaughter of any kind. Stop bearing false witness, please.
You admit it, then, YFC. No, a sodomite, ie gay, cannot be a Catholic. An ex sodomite or ex gay can, however, be a Catholic. If you are trying to leave your gayness for Christ, then you can be Catholic. If you insist on being gay and Catholic, then all you’re doing is driving yourself insane. Being gay is not a sexual attraction but a political movement. You know this, others know it. The manner in which you blog shows that you are not ready to give up your perverse orientation … so, exactly how do you figure you can be Catholic and belong to a movement of type that God destroyed two cities over?
Below, Skai wrote: Skai says:

I’m not sure what you think you saw me admit. I quoted John Paul’s statement to the press when he was en route to the USA when he said that gays are in the bosom of the Catholic Church. He made no such statement about being ex-gay in order to be catholic. In fact, not only does the Church not teach ANYTHING about being ex-gay, it is not POSSIBLE to be ex-gay. Gay, as an orientation in which ones primary sexual desire is focused on individuals of the same sex, is not something that can be changed. As a matter of psychology, and recently as a matter of law, being gay is broadly considered to be determined before puberty and not subject to change.
Moreover, those therapies that do try to change people’s sexual orientation not only meet with failure, but they cause severe psychological stress in the individual, and lead to depression and often suicide, On the other hand, folks who grow up with people who accept and support gay people live very healthy happy lives.
If you want to continue to twist my words, saying things like I “admit it”, or claiming things that are provably un true, perhaps you ought to reconsider before you hit the Post Comments button. Surely telling the truth is to be valued within Catholicism. I’ll let someone else look up the CCC reference, but I bet it’s there. Oh wait, it’s in the Ten Commandments.
“The event has been orchestrated by pro-abortion open homosexual John Perez, speaker of the state assembly..” YFC: I’m not sure how to interpret the word “orchestrated,” but the usual meaning applied to this term is that the orchestrator leads and guides the event along his own ends. Let me get this straight: you think this is a good idea, that a gay-marriage advocate and abortion advocate is pulling the strings? Prayers will be offered for more abortion and more gay rights. I guess that prospect charms you. I would suggest that the relationship between Bishop Soto and Perez is grounded by the immigration issue, which trumps all others and suggests that the bishop is simply being maniplated. Hope I am wrong.
Dan, you have hit on a most important point. Immigration is HUGE with Bishop Soto. He is even on some national immigration committees. And of course it would be important to Perez also. An interesting side note: Perez is cousin to Antonio Villarragosa who is mayor of LA and would probably like to be governor or get appointed by Obama to some big post.. He and Obama are best buds.
Nothin new here except another political bishop who stands with the federales while the flock scatters. Cowards and betrayers.
Dan,
In the past, I tried to warn those who were effusive in the praises of Bishop Soto that he was a master at the game of playing both ends against the middle. I even told them about how he staged a similar event in the Diocese of Orange with two pro-abortion, pro-sodomite fellow Demoncrat politicians, and many of you criticized me for telling you the truth. Perhaps now, at least some of you will listen and stop criticizing when you don’t have the facts.
At the event in the Diocese of Orange, Soto also used the excuse of they were good on immigration for having those snakes at his event.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Yes, Kenneth, I seem to recall you were right, as usual. Keep on sharing, as there is a lot to be learned by paying attention to your postings.
Dan: He ‘orchestrated’ it. Yes he did. He is the Speaker of the House. Speakers tend to orchestrate things. In this case, he “orchestrated” prayer. Isn’t that a good thing?
Can you get beyond the third grade level with your comments?
Harry, if your comment is directed at me, may I please ask you to re-read the terms and conditions of this website. And the obligation of the faithful to treat others with charity and dignity.
Prayer is not necessarily a good thing, YFC; it depends on who or what is being prayed to. Do you really believe that the Holy Spirit, Who inspires prayer in the first place, is inspiring prayer for abortion or sodomy? When Jesus visited corrupt men and women, He told them right from wrong. These bishops do not do this. When John the Baptist visited the chief Jew and told him right from wrong, the chief Jew had him executed. When St Paul the Apostle told people right from wrong, they beat him, scourged him, stoned him and chased him … but he never stopped preaching the Gospel.
YFC, prayer to whom and for what?!!??
Your Fellow Catholic, thank you for your thoughtful post of January 8, 8:44 AM, excellent comments.
Prayer can be said without misleading the faithful.
That is so much hooey considering the circumstances, mchicha .Your naivete is astounding,Have you ever heard of the maxim of “Caesar`s Wife“ ?Please google it.
YFC, you have a long way to go before you are capable of getting anything straight.
SO YFC you think women have the right to kill their unborn child, answer yes or no… no liberal obfuscation please…
Camile Paglia uber “feminist, author and of course university indoctrinator extraordinaire-sorry PR0FESS0R “admits that, much like Gov. Palin, she also believes abortion involves the murder of an innocent life – but unlike Palin, Paglia says“……. so what ?
“I have always frankly admitted that abortion is murder, the extermination of the powerless by the powerful,” she said.
“Liberals for the most part have shrunk from facing the ethical consequences of their embrace of abortion, which results in the annihilation of concrete individuals and not just clumps of insensate tissue,” explained Paglia. “The gigantic, instantaneous coast-to-coast rage directed at Sarah Palin when she was identified as pro-life was, I submit, a psychological response by loyal liberals who on some level do not want to open themselves to deep questioning about abortion and its human consequences.”
Paglia’s piece, which appears on Salon.com, is the latest indication that “utilitarian” philosophies that no longer recognize the “right to life” as being the most foundational human right are gaining ground in some liberal circles. Under these philosophies even murder can be advocated as long as it protects what is deemed to be an even more important “right” – in Paglia’s case the sacrosanct “right to abortion.”
Please pray.Red Martyrdom of the Faithful is coming. The pre-born are already suffering it.
Gordon, that is utterly disgusting but in keeping with so much that is happening to the so-called liberals (better to call a spade a spade and refer to them as ring wraiths…mere shadows of what were once humans with souls) They’re really getting more outrageous everyday and it’s as though we’re seeing satan unmasking himself now.
Canisius. No I did not say that. Please do not put words into my mouth.
Well you think a corrupt politician who does support the right of women to kill their children should be honored By a Bishop…how’s that better now
Canasius: Please read the article. The Bishop is hosting an interfaith prayer service for the entire CA legislature. Regardless of their positions. He is not honoring the Speaker. Why do you make these things up?
Ohhh interfaith, more leftist drivel enters the Church. One other thing, reading your previous posts you like all gay liberals put a benign face on your the gay political movement. As someone who was raised in an “alternative household” and ultimately rejected it, No I am not one of you) I can say without a doubt and from brutal experience that gays hide their evil quite well in their politics. No gays cannot be good Catholics until their gayness is completely renounced, because it is choice. When gays in the Church are purged from it, it will be a far Holier Church
YFC you want to get it straight? Now that is well, you know what I mean….CRAZY
I hope and pray I’m wrong, but I fear there are some very stormy days ahead for our Church.
Harry, those stormy days are already here and they are getting worse than stormy.
The head of the USCCB has a public dinner with the president and now this. It seems the bishops are too interested in smoozing with politicians than in leadership of the Church. No wonder there is a crisis of leadership in the Church today – there again, those in leadership today entered the priesthood after Vatican II, so I guess it figures! It doesn’t present much of an example for students today, does it?
How many times was I criticized on this Site for trying to warn you all that Bishop Soto was a Master in the tactic of “Playing both ends against the middle”? Believe me I take no pleasure in being proven correct. I was even beggining to hope that he had actually turned a new leaf. Sadly those hopes are now dashed by this scandalous affair that matches his scandalous affairs in the Diocese of Orange.
We can praise him when he is morally correct, but always have our backsides covered for when he is WRONG!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
yes, KENNETH, you are the prophet of prophets.
what WOULD we do without you?
max stop please! This is no joking matter…this is truly a tragedy and it is giving the wrong message. Do you know how hurtful it is for those that spend hours and hours at abortion clinics trying to save babies…do you know how much stress it was trying to reach out to homosexuals, all this does is set us backwards. How can we respect our church leaders when they give out the wrong impression and message! God have mercy!
He might as well have dinner with Obama too!
max, I wonder how long you’d last in a reality show on a remote island with the rest of us. ha ha
Dana LOL thanks I needed that humor….this world is getting much more wicked, today I was really hurt and angry at this news. Enough is enough. God have mercy on us all, may He give us rest and help us keep our sanity. I pray that we ask Jesus to help us stay in His graces, to increase our faith. Right now, we need to tend to our salvation…while the rest of the world doesn’t care to reach sanctifying grace, we need to care enough to seek it!
Too true, Abeca. We never know when we’ll be facing judgment. I heard Scott Hahn on the radio speaking about Hell, and it was really powerful and scary. Jesus spoke many times about Hell and I don’t know how or why this is ignored by so many. We all need the prayers of our friends in Christ, that’s for sure!
Catholics can vote in their church with their money and their feet.
Money yes.Feet no.Please capitalize “Church“.
No more money from me!
Most people in authority want to be politically correct. They refuse to call a spade a spade, because it may hurt someone’s feelings. They, however do not worry about scandal, or how they are undermining society and the Church. Look at all the gender neutral words we just used when we sang the updated Christmas hymns at Mass. Unfortunately the main stream Church is behind so many of the problems we are facing in society today. It is like Pogo said, WE HAVE ME THE ENEMY, AND IT IS US! Until the Holy Father throws out the worthless bishops, this problem will not go away. These scandals cry to Heaven for vengence, but it seems only God will punish these active apostates who work within the Catholic Church.
I’m reposting this in case you didn’t get to read this, Fr.Karl. You are so right, and I’m going to keep praying. It was rather odd but last night I was picturing Nancy Pelosi and others as they would have been had their faith not been undermined and it made me very sad. So many started out with such faith and idealism…we must pray for our fallen brothers, and for one another!

In a recent story on Lifesite News, “Something to be dealt with in the churches – urgently and forcefully” by Steve Jalsevac deals with the urgent need to remove homosexual bishops and priests from the ranks. I would recommend everyone reading it, if you haven’t already. It came out on Jan. 4.
Thank you Dana for informing us about this important story on Lifesite News.

Here is the beginning of this article:
Lifesite News, “Something to be dealt with in the churches – urgently and forcefully” by Steve Jalsevac
“This past summer I wrote about a very serious problem in the Catholic Church that is still far from having been resolved, although there has been some progress.
That is, there are still very many actively homosexual and homosexual friendly clergy (from the lowest ranks to cardinals), religious and staff in numerous Church related offices and organizations in the developed World and in other nations such as Columbia. These people of the 50s and 60s revolution in the Church, some heavily influenced by Marxist thought, have played and are still playing a large role in most of the dreadful corruptions and dissent that have been plaguing the Church these past 50 or more years.
This was brought to mind again by Tuesday’s report on the Archbishop of Westminster’s long overdue decision to rescind permission for the notorious pro-homosexual Soho masses.” article continued on LifeSite News. Title: “Something to be dealt with in the churches – urgently and forcefully” by Steve Jalsevac
Thanks so much for reinforcing this important story, Catherine! It’s something we just can no longer keep silent about. It’s causing a tremendous weakening of faith throughout Christendom and weakens the Church’s fight against this evil in the secular world. I still think there is one such, for example, who has caused us untold heartburn on this site, who is playing a very dualistic game supposedly supporting marriage , while doing very odd things at the same time that helps same-sex sham marriage. It’s just a gut feeling I’ve always had. I had it about Rock Hudson before I knew what he or ‘it’ was. I never believed he really cared about the heroines he starred with. A woman’s intuition in these matters is usually pretty good.
Dana,
I just read your post and you could not have stated it any better. Also Dana there is another fresh new humiliating scandal that has gone viral and it is exposing the rot within the Church. You are right about these scandals. They do cause a tremendous weakening of the faith throughout Christendom and it does affect the Church’s fight against evil in the secular world. Dana, someone else told me that exact same thing today and they phrased it just as you did. Also, there is a reason why Pope Benedict said that homosexuality was incompatible with the priesthood.
Dana, I just found this on the internet, read what the Holy Father said back in 2008. I had never seen this before.
VATICAN CITY | Mon Dec 22, 2008 1:46pm GMT
(Reuters) – Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behavior was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.
“(The Church) should also protect man from the destruction of himself. A sort of ecology of man is needed,” the pontiff said in a holiday address to the Curia, the Vatican’s central administration.
“The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less.”
The Catholic Church teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are. It opposes gay marriage and, in October, a leading Vatican official called homosexuality “a deviation, an irregularity, a wound.”
The pope said humanity needed to “listen to the language of creation” to understand the intended roles of man and woman. He compared behavior beyond traditional heterosexual relations as “a destruction of God’s work.”
He also defended the Church’s right to “speak of human nature as man and woman, and ask that this order of creation be respected.”
Everytime there is an “interfaith” service or “interfaith” anything, the Catholic clergy water down our faith and ethics and give approval to questionable activities, and, in this case, outright approval of pro-homosexual and pro-abortion people, just to be a part of the establishment. They go along to get along. Most California politicians are anti-Catholic. These are the politicians who just passed the legislation to prevent parents from putting their children into psychotherapy to change their homosexual tendencies. Can you name even one politician who has ever given up one of their principals to accomodate the Church? With bishops such as Soto and former Archbishop Mahoney as our leaders, is it any wonder why so many Catholics voted for Obama? The hierarchy of the Church gave us Vatican II, which changed the Mass and other traditions just to make us more palatable to non-Catholics. It didn’t bring more people to Catholicism, but caused many Catholics to leave the Church. For myself, if an event is labled interfaith or ecumenical I do not participate.
I agree, unless it happens to be a wedding or a funeral of friends that I am attending. Other than that, I see no reason whatsoever to attend an interfaith service of any kind. Our faith may be equal to other faiths in the eyes of society and the law, but it is the one true faith, and I’ll believe that and worship accordingly all the rest of my days.
Communicating with your Bishop on serious concerns that are not being effectively handled at the parish level is an important task for the Catholic layman. The Vatican II document, Lumen Gentium, states the “To the extent of their knowledge, competence or authority the laity are entitled, and indeed sometimes duty-bound, to express their opinion on matters which concern the good of the church.” And if the above doesn’t work:
Apostolic Nuncio
Arch. Bishop Gabriel Montalvo
3339 Massachusetts Avenue N W
Washington, DC 20008-3687
Telephone: (202) 333-7121
Fax: (202) 337-4036
Thank you Gabriel….lay faithful don’t give up!
Self acclaimed “your fellow Catholic”.
Gay is a political term for militant homosexuals and one cannot be such and be a REAL CATHOLIC!
You know only too well where the term “sodomite” came from!
May God have mercy on your poor soul,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Kenneth- Please point me to one document in Church teaching that says a gay person cannot be a catholic. A good catholic at that.
The sin of sodomy!
Dear Abeca:
Just because a person is gay doesn’t mean they commit “the sin of sodomy”. I ask again, please point to one church document in which it says that a gay person cannot be a catholic in good standing.
There has been numerous of times where the explanation of what the word “gay” actually means and the background of the gay agenda is all about and how it began. That term clearly defies church by it’s activism and expansion of so called “gay rights”…it goes against the natural law..
The church does not condone any behavior or agenda that promotes defiance to the natural law etc.
Gabriel,
As one who has been to Rome under the sponsorship of an Archbishop who I was with at the time, I can tell you I tried such reporting and it did no good as far as I can tell.
Should we keep trying, absolutely for the good of our souls, if for no other reason. But have reasonable expectations.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
We should ask the good Bishop to explain why he is “honoring” this person, if that it really the case. Does he have some other intention in mind, to have an occasion to dispute this person? A Catholic Bishop just cannot support a group against Christianity … he has to have a valid reason. The Bishop must explain why he is “honoring” this person and what he wants to achieve by participating with this group.
jenny, there is nothing in the article that says the bishop is honoring Perez. I have searched every source and can find nothing anywhere that says that Bishop Soto is honoring Speaker Perez. We are waiting for some kind of confirmation that this actually occured. If it has not, then CCD has harmed the bishop’s reputation. I hope it was just a eye-catching headline but if it was not, then we will have to send “What were you thinking?” cards to the bishop.
Anonymous,
You can’t be that naive!
As a former politician, I can’t begin to tell how much such an appearance alongside a “bishop” means to these snakes.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
I just sent the following email to Bishop Soto. If I lived near Sacramento, I would go.
Dear Bishop Soto,
Just the appearance of you with an abortion advocate supports the killing of unborn babies. Please reconsider.
May the Holy Spirit guide you!
Joel
How soon Catholics have forgotten about Cardinal Dolans night out with Obama with a Budweiser in hand at a so called Catholic event. How soon Catholics have forgotten about the Notre Dame scandle and this is a suprise ? Wolves or Shepards, God will be the judge.
The Church is still around here, despite bad Bishops.
We need good shepherds, not political appeasers and comedians.
Dear Bishop Soto,
I am appalled to learn that unrepentant pro-abortion and openly-sodomite California assembly speaker, John Perez, is orchestrating an interfaith prayer service in Sacramento’s Catholic cathedral to celebrate the convening of the state legislature. Please disinvite him immediately, and cancel the service.
There is nothing to “celebrate” about the convening of a California legislature that consists of a Democrat super-majority in both houses, because the Democrat party enshrines the intrinsic evils of abortion and homosexuality in its platform. The convening of this legislature should be mourned and atoned for, not celebrated. It would be much better if you would lead Catholic prayers, such as 40 hours Eucharistic devotions and the Rosary, in reparation for the evils the Democrat party proudly embraces and the harm it has wrought on the people of California.
In 2004, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the statement Catholics and Political Life. In it, the bishops stated, “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”
Please abide by your own bishops’ conference statement. Immediately disinvite John Perez, bar him from setting foot on Sacramento diocesan property, and cancel the interfaith service.
Joan write directly or follow Gabriel posts that says:
January 7, 2013 at 3:16 am where to write!
THANK YOU Joan for telling it how it is.
I looked up the Interfaith Council. The religions the group includes have Wicca and Aborigine Spirituality, as well as the usual other odd “faiths”. Catholic is included in “Christian” as a category.
With many openly gay board members.
hmm…the first paragraph says it’s an “interfaith PRAYER service” for the convening of the state legislature.
but the headline says it’s an event to “HONOR pro-homosexual and pro-abortion” politicians.
i wonder which is the acurrate descripton of this event…
Well max it is still honoring and condoning…why can’t you see that!
More of the same from another Left Coast bishop.
The honeymoon is over with Bishop Soto. Off with his hat!
bwahahahahahaahaaha
At what point of episcopal infamy does God remove a bishop’s authority to minister the Sacraments?
Skai,
Know your Theology. In spite of a bishop’s episcopal infamy, and to the detriment of his eternal soul, God only removes his authority when he gives him His final Judgment, and it is too late then!
That poor soul, Archbishop Woolsey of England is said to have said it well: “had I only served my God half as well as I served my King, my God would not have left me to die in this miserable state”. Are you even listening American Bishops?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
I suspect that the nature of this event is misunderstood by people who rightly object to inviting public dissenters to events that allow them wrongly to portray themselves as in harmony with the Church’s moral teaching, but who have never attended an event sponsored by Bishop Soto. Praying with sinners is not necessarily endorsing what they do. Moroever, I have never foiund this bishop hesitate to tell his flock what he thinks they need to hear, whether it is welcome or not. I remember one occasion on which he was loudly criticized for accepting an invitation to speak at an event featuring dissenting homosexual groups, but it was his hosts who got a bit more than they bargained for. Saint Theresa of Calcutta was famous for accepting invitations to speak and not hesitating to exhort her audiences to repent.
Dream on, Vincent.
Vincent Di Carlo,
Practicing selective memory won’t get it! Do you also remember when he stated in a Church in the Diocese of Orange that two pro-abortion, pro-sodomite politicians (one an active sodomite)present there where they were honored guest of the Bishop were not with us in all issues but are good in immigration?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
It is amazing…a little while ago it was Bishop Alemany High School, now it’s a cathedral – it’s almost as if this was deliberating planned to be “in your face.” Wonder if the bishop will refuse communion to, at least, this guy?
Bob,
It is deliberate planning in our face by SATAN and his minions to discourage us in the ranks!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
The headline of this report is misleading. The Bishop is NOT honoring Assembly Leader Perez.
Bishop Soto will be blessing the entire legislative assembly, which unfortunately has Perez for its leader. But it’s not about Perez. Don’t we Californians want our legislative body blessed and perhaps, exorcized?
It’s quite different with Cdl. Dolan and Obama. Cdl. Dolan honored Obama. Notre Dame honored Obama. But Bishop Soto will be honoring the legislaturenot Perez. Get a grip, editor, and rewrite the headline!
Thank you, Mousey!
Are we not told to be as sly as foxes?? When Bishop Manogue moved the Diocesan center from Grass Valley to Sacramento and in 1887 built the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacramento within a block of the State Capitol building it was with a purpose! The Cathedral was built in the European style and with the clear intention of catechizing those who may wonder inside. (Check the Sacramento Bee website to see the wealth of Eucharistic lessons that fill the place.)
To quote Father James Murphy in his Introduction to the book The Cathedral of The Blessed Sacrament, The Cathedral is the spiritual heart of any city.. All are welcome there: the native and the foreigner, the housed and the homeless, the believer and the skeptic.
As a faithful and devout Catholic in the diocese of Sacramento I encounter Bishop Soto at MANY pro-life events, special Masses, walk for life, etc. He has designated January 22nd as a Diocesan Day of Reparation on the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. As part of this observance he has even orchestrated a 6 mile pilgrimage in reparation for abortion and other sins against human dignity. I would trust him to do all he can to keep the lines of communication open with the California Legislature, especially now that there is a super majority. Sharing in a moment of prayer is a rare opportunity (nearly a miracle) especially in the lost, liberal, left state of California!
In today’s culture I see many strong, faithful bishops and priests keeping close contact with legislators, communicating with them most often to enlighten them about the errors in their thinking… most recently and most vocally during the public debates about the HHS Mandate and Religious Freedom. Is California Catholic implying that our bishops should never interact with non-believers and/or wayward Catholics? Or suggesting we must only communicate as adversaries? Why would you not instead report that this Interfaith event is a great opportunity for the bishop who serves the Catholics living and working in and around the state Capitol!?! To take any other slant appears to be with an intention of leading faithful Catholics to distrust their shepherds.
Lorine, even if Bishop Soto wanted to straighten out errant legislators, his boss at the California Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCC), Ned Dolejsi, would not permit it. The CCC’s only interest is social justice, and abortion is not part of their program. In addition, the CCC has stated that it is just fine if same-sex “friends” love each other (love not specified), it’s just that they can’t be married.
Marie, The CCC is NOT Bishop Soto’s boss. Bishop Soto is the shepherd of his own flock, namely, the Sacramento Diocese. Bishop Soto is the boss of his diocese – he is the Apostle to whom our Lord gave Sacramento diocese as his flock to shepherd in our time. The CCC is an association of bishops of California, but it’s just an association. (As a conference, it has other functions, such as the uniformity of people’s postures in celebrating the Liturgy, etc.) But it can’t mandate individual bishops on how to run their own diocese.
“To quote Father James Murphy in his Introduction to the book The Cathedral of The Blessed Sacrament, The Cathedral is the spiritual heart of any city.. All are welcome there: the native and the foreigner, the housed and the homeless, the believer and the skeptic.” You could use the same argument to allow atheists to receive the Eucharist.
Sorry, bringing people who are so publicly at odds with the Church’s fundamental teachings into the Cathedral for a service of any kind is allowing them to use the Church for their own ends. They can claim to be “Catholics” while undermining the Church. Any bishop sly as a fox (or even half as sly) should know that, and should also know that part of the pro abortion strategy is just that, to persuade Catholics they can be true to their Faith and still be “pro Choice” or “pro gay marriage”. When a bishop stands beside “Catholic” public figures in the sanctuary, whether he likes it or not, he is implying they are in good standing with the Church. Unfortunately incidents like this are all too common and they are doing immense damage to both the Church and the pro life movement.
I don’t think Bishop Soto will “stand” with politicians in the sanctuary. The sanctuary is for clergy.
Loraine, thank you for your balanced comments. Thank you also for telling us of Bishop Soto’s commitment to pro-life causes. Just because he is meeting with the speaker of California’s state assembly, Mr., Perez, who is considered to be someone less than fully human by some of the posters here, does not mean that Bishop Soto is not a good bishop. Even Christ met with sinners.
Amen to that, Mark! Jesus told us He came as a doctor FOR the sick, FOR the sinners. He loves them and longs for their hearts to turn to Him. We are His arms, so how can we open our arms to those in need if we do not also open our doors? The bishop is not having these legislators participate in Mass, he is simply joining in prayer with them… and setting a holy example that we can pray will attract those lost souls. I consider myself intensely protective of our Catholic faith and appreciate the need to be vigilant but these posts are reflecting a dangerous extreme. I am praying just as earnestly for these posters so eager to fuel division as I am for those confused and sad souls as Mr. Perez.
Lorine if I’m getting it right with your post, you seem to misinterpret/misusing scripture and so does PA. You are no different than the posters from another thread that people condoned an Archbishop to have a public dinner with Obama. They used the same scandalizing tone in a message saying that Jesus ate with the sinners.
That is an abuse of holy scripture, it is misleading and truly a scandalous one. Obama won this past election and one has to wonder if that dinner helped open up that path to his winning as well, many Catholics where pleased with that dinner invitation and how many more Catholics voted for Obama….we are living very crooked times and I fear that things will only get worst.
I ask all to focus more now on ones personal salvation in Jesus, pray that our Lord will help keep you in His graces, that we don’t fall out of grace because right now, there is so much confusion and indifference…the hearts of man are rejecting our Lord and entertaining men instead. God have mercy on us all.
Mark, Jesus did indeed meet with sinners, but He urged them to repent. It is my understanding that Bishop Soto did NOTHING to advise the assembly that they were in error.
Mousey,
You too can’t be that naive, perhaps you are feigning naivette to cover your real thoughts.
Soto will be honoring the most pro-abortion, pro-sodomite, anti-Catholic legislature this State has ever had the misfortune to have!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
When mankind thinks it’s will and acts in it’s will, when those in power are not humble and not holy, then they use that power, their will to mislead many souls…..
I am not naive. The Bishop is honoring the Legislature that represents the people of California, therefore it’s the PEOPLE that he will be honoring, not any individual member of the legislative body.
It’s so different from how Cdl. Dolan honored Obama and Romney – those candidates were invited as individuals representing political parties, not as persons representing the people. That’s why that dinner was scandalous.
But I don’t think this California legislature case is scandalous. Like it or not, the legislature represents the people. The legislature may be Democratic majority – and that’s a shame – but it still represents the people, not the party. So it’s the people that Bishop Soto will be honoring.
The headline of this news article is misleading. The editor should rewrite it.
The editor replies: We have rewritten the headline. It now reads: “Bishop Soto hosts pro-abortion, pro-homosexual assembly speaker Perez at Sacramento cathedral.”
“The road to hell is paved with the skulls of erring priests, with bishops as their signposts.”
St. John Chrysostom attributed
“The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.”
St. Athanasius, Council of Nicaea, AD 325
St. Athanasius is also know as the “Father of Orthodoxy”.
“It must be observed, however, that if the faith were endangered, a subject ought to rebuke his prelate even publicly.”
St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica II, II, q. 33, a. 4
“Augustine says in his Rule: ‘Show mercy not only to yourselves, but also to him who, being in the higher position among you, is therefore in greater danger.’ But fraternal correction is a work of mercy. Therefore even prelates ought to be corrected.”
St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica II, II, q. 33, a. 4, Sed Contra.
Why is it assumed that faithful lay people are incapable from discerning when a bishop has crossed over the line into what is called the unforegiveable sin, or the sin against the Holy Spirit? Like so many rules and regs put forth by managers, lots of them have only one intention and that is to persuade people from using what God gave us, namely the power and authority of observation and reason.
JLS you are correct. Welcome back my friend, we missed your wisdom and comments here. Hope all is well. The other day I prayed for you and for Larry. I hope you are both well. My prayers are also with everyone here too…I hope Rick D is also well, I miss his contributions as well. I benefit from God’s gifts of wisdom and knowledge, love of faith that comes from those who honor and obey God.
Right now we need to nurture and provide for…what we need to approach our Lord in humility and with great love to submit to His will in which leads us to sanctifying grace!
Today is today, a gift…lets treat it like our last….for only the Lord knows what is ahead of us and if HE chooses to call me home, I pray to be in good graces and to be most pleasing to Him. God help us to not be lazy nor asleep…God help us waken up our souls and deny our flesh. Praise Be Jesus Christ!
Let us offer our own “interfaith prayer service” which is to include three Hail Marys. Mary, is the faithful Mother of all Christians, of all mankind. Let us turn to Mary to see how she would welcome her errant sons and daughters to God’s house. Let us welcome the lost and the broken. Welcome the prodical sons and daughters. And of course, if any of you feel you are without sin, pick up a stone and cast it at your lost brother or sister in your anger. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Very good idea.
Honoring California State Legislature, Speaker John A. Perez who is an avowed PRO-ABORT who curries favor with PLANNED PARENTHOOD and an avowed member of the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian chapter of the pro homosexual movement.
I live in Omaha NE and read this and could not believe my eyes. I am a Roman Catholic attend Immaculate Conception Church and our pastors are FSSP priests. We live a devoted life to our Catholic faith.
This scandal perpetrated on the littlest of all, the souls being led astray by hierarchy into such dangerous sinfulness to the heart of the Church and most of to the souls who have NOT been made aware of the dangers to thier eternal souls.
The Blessed Sacrament is NOT INTERFAITH.
This is pure schism to the teachings of Jesus Christ and our Loving God.
Turn back now, and relinquish your power to God Almighty. He will direct you in the way of the Lord.
Do not assume you know best, because you do not.
Omaha, NE
Most of the California bishops will not allow FSSP into their dioceses. Most of them restrict priests from saying the EF Mass.
Why don’t the bishops want the Latin Mass in their diocese ??
The fact is that they don’t.
the former ARCHBISHOP OF SAN FRANCISCO (GEORGE NIEDERAUER) personally asked his priests to learn how to celebrare the TRIDENTINE MASS, as only a couple of guys can do it right now.
the new ARCHBISHOP OF SAN FRANXISCO (SALVATORE CORDILEONE) is well known for bieng in favor of the TRIDENTE MASS, so it’s false to claim that bishops don’t wnat the TLM celebrated in their dioceses.
a bigger hurdle is the simple fact that most priests are not competenet to celebrate the TLM which is complex and requires lots of training — in the old days, seminarians would have altars in their rooms to practice for AGES as the rubrics are very complicated.
maybe the seminaries can teach the younger guys how to say the TLM, but the priests alreadys in parishes are kept pretty busy trying to celebrate the SACTRAMENTS and cvare for their people and don’t probably have gobs of time to learn this rite.
max I appreciate you trying to help set a tone of positive. Which is good. I do know is that for years and years the lay faithful have asked for a Latin Mass in a church under Bishop Brom’s diocese but he only had permitted it in a San Diego’s Cemetery. Just recently, the TLM has it’s own parish now, finally in San Diego…praise God.
Even though I am only somewhat new in support of the TLM, I think that those who loved it way before I had even discovered it, they have felt the persecution and probably would know better in regards to understanding how they were treated when asking for the TLM to be said in their parish.
Skai,
Bishop Soto gave us the TLM, even if he had to “borrow” a retired elderly priest from Santa Rosa diocese to celebrate it every Sunday in our parish. Our pastor was not exactly thrilled to give the time and space for the Usus Antiquior, but he had to, because it was ordered by Bishop Soto.
Omaha,
Bishop Soto is NOT honoring Perez. The Bishop will be praying for and with the California Legislature, which respresents the people of California. He is not honoring one particular individual.
The function of a bishop is not praying for everyone. Anyone can pray and we should. But a bishop has no more prayer clout than anyone else. In fact most bishops may have less. The Pope called them to become holy, because most are not. Holy people praying gain a lot more response from Heaven than unholy or non holy people. The function of a bishop is something that you could ask one about … but don’t hold your breath for the right answer.
You can’t convert them until you bring them into the church. This in an interfaith prayer meeting as part of the opening of the new Assembly and Senate. This is normal practice in many states and municipalities. We have Red Masses and Blue Masses, etc. We hold a national Red Mass each year for the members of the Supreme Court and all law officials in DC. Its hard to have an interfaith service for the legislators without having them come in the building. We don’t have to like their politics, but we should pray for and with them.
Bob One,
When Rome was dominated by pagan worship, did the Church hold ‘interfaith’ services to convert them to the True Faith? Did they have pagan priests say their prayers in the church? No, they preached the Gospel, instructed them in proper doctrine and baptized them. That does not happen much, if at all, in today’s Church. There is no longer such things as heresy or the danger of falling into hell for worshipping pagan deities. Everyone is saved!
Bob One,
Please don’t ever again try to tell us that you are not a liberal. We who know better, especially those of us who have been in politics!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Clinton R., 12:38 PM,
When they stand before the final Judgment seat, they will find out that not all are saved because they did not want to be saved, and it will be toooooo late for them then!
I have a buddy who constantly attends the REC and he is trying to convince me that the Church does not teach that anyone is in Hell. When I quoted him directly from the CCC on that subject, he actually said “that is not from the Vatican”. Willful Ignorance will get him nowhere when he stands before the Judgment Seat.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Mr Fisher, please tell your ignorant friend to visit this web site:
“What Catholics REALLY Believe SOURCE”.
Write it down for him so he can’t forget the name of it.
The info provided about the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” can not be refuted.
They include links for all the supporting documentation and quotes from Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict.
Like some here have noted, the word ‘interfaith’ can only make a Catholic cringe. The interfaith gatherings are yet another post Vatican II novelty. What happened to proclaiming the truth? What happened to bishops steering us away from the fires of hell? No, today all that matters is making people feel good about themselves. There is no truth anymore, all religions are good and equal. All lifestyles are acceptable. All people go to Heaven. The clergy by and large care only to be guests of honor at banquets. The days of apostasy rage on.
Clinton R.
The word for that is “Sycophant” and it is strongly condemned by Our Lord!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
“Interfaith” makes me cringe, too. But it’s not the prayers that are interfaith, but the object of the prayers that are -meaning the people of California. It’s all right to use Catholic prayers to pray for Hollywood (whatever the predominant beliefs of the people there) or the workers in the vineyards of Napa Valley. It’s the “interfaith” people that the Bishop is praying for – but his prayers will be Catholic.
Look! It has happened before.
“A special ceremony, with Sacramento Bishop Jaime Soto in attendance, was held in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento for John Perez when the California assembly Democratic members selected him as the first openly gay speaker in the U.S. in March, 2010.” CCD
Bishop Soto has no problem with honoring gay legislators or abortion supporters. What exactly is he honoring John Perez for. His hate of unborn children, his total disobedience of the Catholic church or his celebrating of his life homosexual lifestyle. Maybe it is the total mess that the CA legislature is in or the Democrat great money management.
Anon,
Obviously it was the same idiot reporter that wrote the story. It was not Perez that the Bishop honored then or now. It was the legislature, which just happened to have Perez as its leader. Big difference.
When a nation worships idols such as hollywood characters or bishops, and informally institutionalizes adultery, then that is the point in its history where the sodomites trot out and strut around like champions and heros. The next stage is always where a stronger society takes over, often with devastating results to the moral members of that society. But eventually justice happens and both the tyrants, the sodomites and the immoral hordes disappear into the night from whence they came. This process can take generations, however.
We win in the end.I read the Book.
Does this nation worship bishops?
Surprised? Bishop Soto is Chairman of the USCCB’s CCHD subcommittee. He and Bishop Blaire defend it most ardently, particularly against criticism from pro-life groups. ‘Nuff said.
Anyone above FROM the Diocese of Sacramento? Look, the Church is a hospital for sinners. If the Church (and by extension, its shepherds) dont interface with the sinners, how can they be healed? The event is not ‘orchestrated’ by Perez, it is the annual invocation for the Legislature. Calm down everyone. Stop being so judgemental of our Bishops. The honor due to the Priesthood, and especially the SUCCESSORS TO THE APOSTLES needs to be restored! Criticize LESS, and pray MORE! How dare we be so critical of those who are ‘other Christs’.
People go to hospital to get cured. They recognize they have something wrong and want it put right. That is emphatically not the case here. The people coming to the hospital, instead of wanting to be cured, want to contaminate the hospital. They have devoted their political careers to spreading a hideous life-style that is destructive by its nature. They insist that the Church must go along with them, and accept them on their terms. They insist on spreading the poisonous claim that you can be a good Catholic and approve of the gay life style, elective abortion etc. The bloggers on this thread are concerned about the damage being done when bishops, priests, nuns or any Church leaders are led to facilitate such people in their efforts to weaken and pervert the Church’s witness. When “Catholic” politicians proclaim their “pro choice” stand or their “pro gay marriage” stand, while swearing how loyal they are to their church, and how much it means to them, they are participating in the world wide strategy of manipulating the Church to their advantage. They are not coming to the hospital for a cure. In simple language, they are engaging in rank deception.
It doesn’t matter who ‘orchestrated’ this. It is still wrong. If it is an “annual invocation for the Legislature” then let it take place in some of the Legislature buildings, or at least in some location that does not suggest the Church is supportive of the agenda being promoted. The bishops themselves have insisted on that in their 2004 statement on Catholics in Political Life. If the bishops themselves will not heed their own directives, who will take them seriously, and how will the honor due them, about which you are concerned, be restored? With respect, Steve, you are substituting sentimentality for sound catechesis.
Ron,
You are right. It would be better if such services were held elsewhere instead of in a Catholic cathedral. But that’s what has been agreed upon by all sides and it’s not as bad as people think. People just have to bear in mind that the Bishop is NOT honoring any particular member of the Assembly. It’s California and its people that will be prayed for.
This case is different from when Cdl. Dolan honored Obama at dinner. In the Dolan case, it was the individual (not the people whose president he is) that was honored and that person also happened to represent the party of death as its candidate. It’s also not like the eulogies heaped upon the dead Senator Kennedy at his funeral. That was really abominable – imagine honoring a pro-abort, anti-Catholic, CINO and his “accomplishments” at his funeral.
But the case with Bishop Soto and California legislature is different because it’s the California people that the legislature represents that matters, not the representatives themselves.
It may be the bishop’s intention to honor and pray for the ‘people’ as distinct from the ‘politicians’. And that idea might have merit were it not for a couple of salient facts. One is that that is definitely not the way the said politicians want these events interpreted. They want to show the electorate their Catholic credentials while embracing teachings very obviously at odds with the Church. That way they can get votes from conservative religious people as well as from the more radical elements they represent. They fool a great many people that way, and it is unquestionably dishonest on their part. We should not allow them to do so. Apart from the fact that the Church is collaborating in an act of mass deception, there is a catechetical issue here. Many fine priests and teachers warn their people against the seductive doctrines of free sex, abortion, homosexual activity etc. These people very publicly undermine those efforts. A wise shepherd should be alert to that harm that is being done.
Another salient fact is that bishops are violating their own directives which they issued in 2004 regarding giving recognition, honors or a forum of any kind to people who publicly disagree with these fundamental Church teachings. That makes them look ridiculous and undermines people’s faith in them.
This is all so sad. A phrase from the “old Mass” pops into my head: “I will go unto the altar of God, the God who gives joy to my youth.” What joy do we now have with the Catholic Church organization established by Jesus Christ? We find acceptance of abortion as a necessary part of women’s lives. We say that God has created individuals who have same-sex lust and therefore they should not be denied “marriage”. We believe that individuals are too selfish and therefore the government should provide benefits for all. We agree that what we used to call “devotions” are too antiquated and should be stricken from Church activity. We believe that Mary the Mother of God is just like one of us and we treat her like a pal. And we do the same for her Son. And we believe that all will go to Heaven so no need to worry about those pesky commandments. Do our bishops teach us the truth? No, they go about the new business of the Church which is to go along with the Culture of Death so that they can continue receiving the benefits of big government. Will they cave in under the iron rule of the president they elected? I’m sure they will. Jesus will still be in charge of His Church, but it may not exist in California or in most of the US for long.
Laurette,
Hard to refute what you wrote because you painted with a very broad brush. But I’m sure there are some straight-arrow, orthodox bishops among the US lot. Archbishop Chaput of Philadephia, Archbishop Cordileone of SF, Bishop Alexander Sample of Marquette. And yes, Bishop Soto of Sacramento, I must say.
A wonderful priest who was true to the faith once told me, “Satan is at the doors of the Church, because he already has all the non-believers.”
I believe we are called as Catholics to not just spread the love of God and His teaching, but to also fight evil, and now we must fight evil right
among our own.
At the end of the day, we should look like knights that have been out all day slaying dragons. Sadness and “tsk tsk” will not be enough. In this day and age, we must become warriors for the truth!
Candace,
Well said!
We might have even been told that by the same Holy Priest. Was he a Claretian? The late Fr. Thomas Matin, C.M.F. told me the same thing!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Candace what beautiful words of encouragement you give to us. God bless you for this great ability to share with us in Charity. You are right on!
I was told that the church is for sinners. No truer words were ever spoken. I have seen and heard Bishop Soto many times. He is charming and has many youth groups within the Diocese. Pictures of him with the young adults posted on facebook, We have people in the parish who run down to the diocese and talk to him. They litteraly idolize him.
According to the SF Chronicle, Perez issued an invitation to the public to attend the interfaith prayer service to be held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and that he was asked to co-host the event by the Interfaith Council of Sacramento. No mention of any honor being given by Bishop Soto. No mention of Bishop Soto at all.
Anonymous, thanks for this info. The article indeed says that the Interfaith Council approached Perez and asked him to co-host the event, which he agreed to do. Now I wonder who is in charage of the Cathedral? Interfaith, Perez or Bishop Soto? The flyer distributed at the State Capitol states that “Speaker John A. Perez invites you to attend an Interfaith Prayer Service…”. It also states “Sponsored by: The Interfaith Council of Sacramento….Hosted by: Bishop Jaime Soto, Diocese of Sacramento”. The actual announcement on the Sacramento Diocese website stated: “The event is sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Sacramento and hosted by Bishop Jaime Soto of the Diocese of Sacramento”. ….. I find it puzzling that the Diocese failed to state that Perez was co-hosting . It seems like the Diocese has been compromised by the “super-majority” of Democratic Assembly SpeakerJohn A. Perez and the Interfaith Council composed of a plethora of strange “faiths” and aberrant sects.

Nov. 21, 2012 — Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday received a delegation of Coptic Church officials who offered him their condolences for the death of his sister on Tuesday.
The church delegation, which was headed by newly ordained Coptic Pope Tawadros II, also thanked Morsi for sending a presidential representative to attend the new pope’s ordination ceremony earlier this month.
The meeting was also attended by Vice President Mahmoud Mekki and former presidential chief-of-staff Mohamed Refaa El-Tahtawi.
OH, MY — DOES THIS MEAN THE COPTIC POPE IS ENDORSING ISLAM? HEAVENS TO BETSY!!!
“President Morsi assured Pope Tawadros II and his delegation that he was responsible for safeguarding the rights of all Egyptians without distinction,” a presidential spokesman announced on Wednesday.
In the USA, heretical and schismatic Catholic politicans use Bishops and Priests to get elected or re-elected.

CCC: ” 2285 Scandal takes on a particular gravity by reason of the authority of those who cause it or the weakness of those who are scandalized. It prompted our Lord to utter this curse: “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
Scandal is grave when given by those who by nature or office are obliged to teach and educate others.
Jesus reproaches the scribes and Pharisees on this account: he likens them to wolves in sheep’s clothing. ”
One main reason the Catholic Church in the USA is such a mess is because of poor catechesis, and the refusal of many Bishops to encourage all over age 16 in their Diocese to read/study the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”.
The other main reason is that far too many US Bishops do not publically handle SCANDAL within their own Diocese. Public scandal causes confusion and the loss of Souls.
OH, MY — DOES THIS MEAN THE COPTIC POPE IS ENDORSING ISLAM? HEAVENS TO BETSY!!!
No! Your post just means you are endorsing “Saul Alinsky’s Rules” #3, #5, & #6
RULE 3: “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.
RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
RULE 6: “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.
“Lest we forget at least an over the shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins – or which is which), the very first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom – Lucifer.”
― Saul D. Alinsky, Rules for Radicals: A Pragmatic Primer for Realistic Radicals
“At least five times with the Arian and the Albigensian, with the Humanist sceptic, after Voltaire and after Darwin, the Faith has to all appearance gone to the dogs. In each of these five cases it was the dog that died.”
— GK Chesterton
Oh, good quote, Catherine, and so relevant. I doubt there was a greater threat to the Church than the Arian heresy…even St.Augustine bought into it before he became a Christian, and yet it was defeated and routed out, even though it sprang up again with the protestant rebellion. That seems to be falling apart rather rapidly these days,as well, and though times seem dark, it’s really a great time to be Catholic. Probably our greatest threat is comfort. As Thoreau said (I’m paraphrasing, because I’ve not read him since high school) ‘Comfort comes in the door as a guest, and soon becomes the master…’ or something like that. At least obama got us out of our comfort zone. Catholics need hurdles, climbing ropes and long and distant journeys to keep in shape…metaphorically speaking, of course. ha
Great post, Dana.
Dana, how can a non-Christian become a heretic?
Arius was a Christian presbyter in Alexandria, skai. Arian was a sect of the early church that taught that Jesus was not equal to God. You can check it out. As for metaphors… gosh, do I have to walk you through what I meant, skai? Good grief, Charlie Brown.
And skai, one might think I was Talking to a puppy, in your reference to my Thoreau referrence. Having a bad day, were you?
The Way of the Cross is more than metaphorical, Dana.
“‘Comfort comes in the door as a guest, and soon becomes the master…’ “: One might think you’re referring to puppies.
As the late Pope, Blessed John Paul II pointed out in a book, the meaning of the word “radical” applies to Jesus and His followers, not to the devil. Radical means root, and the devil severed his root. The Church finds Her roots in God through Jesus. So, once again we have an example of utter deception by one of its masters, Saul Alinsky, a distorted mind and ruined soul.
That’s my blog, I forgot to put in my moniker, and it defaulted to Anonymous.
What is going on with our Holy Catholic Church? Why would Bishop Soto degrade himself with an ‘interfaith service’? He is a Catholic Bishop. Why would he do this in front of the Tabernacle? If these ‘faiths’ mattered it would be much easier for me to switch to one of these ‘others’ as many have less rules and regulations. Bishop Soto YOU ARE LEADING PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE FAITH. Just as the Faithful are called to REPENT for their sins SO ARE YOU. Do not be one of the Pharisees. You are truly starting to make me question my Faith with your irresponsible actions. You are OUR sheppared PLEASE do not deliver us to the WOLVES.
Mark,
Bishop Soto does not deliver us to the wolves. Californians delivered themselves to the wolves by voting a pro-death democrat majority. Bishop Soto would be praying for Californians whether they voted democrat or republican, anyway. The Bishop is praying for the state and it’s people, through its legislative body – which, unfortunately, happens to be democrat at this time. Let’s pray and turn that around so in future elections, the Bishop will be praying for a pro-life majority assembly.
Kind of a perverse notion of a bishop … a praying machine. Anyone can pray, and bishops have no more prayer clout than anyone else. In fact, since we now know that the bishops are not holy, because the Pope told them to become holy, then we know that praying bishops have very little spiritual clout, and almost no response from Heaven. Bishops have vocations which are a lot more than prayer … Ask a bishop what this might be … but don’t waste your time waiting for the right answer.
After 27yrs. being away from Holy Mother Church, and through the intercession of the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, I have never been so confused about what is NOT being said at our masses( MORTAL SINS) I left two parrishs. One for putting up hurdles to my pro life hand outs, another for a lector who is a mason(ring and all) and not long ago a local chief of police who had a funeral mass, who was a mason and didnt even attend mass there and requested any gifts be sent to his protestant church etc.,etc. I was told the priest earlier recieved an award from the local satanic temple! yoi! I’m sorry for being off subject, when I first read about this scandel, I hoped as I did when ArchBishop Dolan invited Barry to the Ed Smith dinner hoopla that he would have a public excomunication or public exorcissom! I will pray a HOLY HOUR for the Bishop, and if I may suggest to all of you who have representatives that are under satans grip HAVE MASSES FOR THEM THROUGH THE MISSIONS AND THEN BRING IN THE INFANTRY PRAY THE ROSARY SACRED HEART OF JESUS HAVE MERCY ON ME AND THEM!!!.
Well said, Eddie, and thanks so much for your beautiful contribution. You could not be doing anything better for Mother Church!!
ps…Eddie, Cardian Dolan is MOST problematic to many Catholics. The obama dinner scandal has caused ripples of confusion in the Church and probably helped obama get re-elected. It could have been such a victory for the faithful had he stood up like a man like Archbishop O’Connor did in the past and say no to an invitation to an abortion supporter.
It’s an Interfaith event, so the venue is rotated….this year it is the Catholic Church’s turn.
You never know how God can touch folks who enter his own house of worship…..at least worth a prayer, ain’t it?
If I got $5.00 for every time someone used that excuse, I would probably be wealthy…..people saying you just never know. Well actually we know…we are living the results.
Abeca Christian, Thank you Abeca! That was such an excellent statement! “Well we actually know…we are living the results!” Many people who used to call themselves Catholics are now attending other interfaith churches. Is this confusion viewed as a good work too? The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament should never be used in such a way that it gives the appearance that certain sins are being enabled, approved or viewed as just another matter of interfaith personal choice.
Public pro abortion and pro homosexual legislators or officials should not be locking arms in prayer services inside any Catholic Church for a publicly viewed event unless they have publicly repented and renounced their anti life and culture of death support. These representatives of pro abortion and pro homosexual legislation should especially not be locking arms within a Catholic Cathedral located in Sacramento the state’s Capitol. This sends out terribly confusing messages to those who do not understand the faith.
Were these pro-death pro homosexual asked if they now renounced their evil legislative goals that have murdered millions or that seek to change the traditional definition of marriage between a man and a woman? The public is watching this and these individuals should also publicly repent and renounce their support. If not, their prayers are quite different than the prayers of those who are praying to do the will of God instead of praying for increased legislation to promote the culture of death. . The saints and the martyrs are our finest examples of joining their prayers and their actions with God. They did not join prayers with false gods known as chaos and confusion.
The Catholic Church IS the refuge all sinners, refugium peccatorum, not a refuge for disturbance, disorder and confusion.
Abeca, You could surely increase that wealth if you added $5.00 for every individual who calls himself or herself a fellow Catholic or sister in Christ but who still voted for a man who thinks that murdering the unborn is simply a matter of choice. To murder an unborn child or not to murder an unborn child, that is the choice. Many think that they got away with labeling murder “a choice”. Knowing this, many who call themselves fellow Catholics, still looked the other way and legislated support and voted for Obama.
thank you for the that added info.
“interfaith” is like transexual, both require surgery.
Interfaith prayer is not bad.
Promoting and advertising any participating politician or person who publically supports the TORTURE and MURDER of unborn infants is very bad.
Also giving a platform to those who support SODOMY is very bad.
This is SCANDAL as well, since it makes it appear that bad acts are ok – to those who are not adequately catechised, and therefore can cause the loss of Souls.
On the net go to: “ENDOWMENT for HUMAN DEVELOPMENT”.
At 8 weeks and 2 days the unborn infant demonstrates reflexive movement. “Touching the embryo elicits squinting, jaw movement, grasping motions, and toe pointing.”
At 9 weeks and 3 days “The fetus can also grasp an object, move the head forward and back, open and close the jaw, move the tongue, sigh, and stretch.
Nerve receptors in the face, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet can sense light touch.
In response to a light touch on the sole of the foot, the fetus will bend the hip and knee and may curl the toes. ”
Ripping off limbs and heads of these infants or burning them, is TORTURE.
This is an embarassment not unlikeArchbishops Hickey MCCormack fancy public funeral for Judge Brennan in DC the co author of Roe vs Wade.. Then there is O Malley of Boston fancy funeral for Ted Kennedy in Boston which in a great iriny Archbishop Dolan refused to attend. The Al Smith dinner with Obama a few weeks before the election is a ominoue trend
There is no such thing as interfaith. There is but one faith “Our Catholic faith without which it is impossible to please God.” Council of Trent Fifth Session.
Mr. Goddard, yes there is but one faith. The Triune God is the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. It would be interesting to tally how many of the “Interfaith” sects represented in the Cathedral do not believe that Jesus is God. I have seen a copy of the program for the “Interfaith Prayer Gathering”. Jesus’ name is no where to be found. Even the title of the Mormon representative was shortened to his name and “LDS Stake”. No Jesus Christ there. The “Intercessions”, mostly all social justice pap, were to be resonded to with, “God of all, grant us peace”. Perhaps more realistically for the occasion it could have been “All gods, grant us peace”. Poor Jesus, shut out of his Cathedral again.
Thank you for your post. That is the kind of solid information that we were needing. Was there a place in the program where the Speaker Perez was honored?
Yes there is only one true faith. Let’s bring in the infantry. Let’s perpetuate the wars in Ireland, in the Middle East. Let’s bring Russia to its knees.
Not.
YFC, wars in Ireland? Russia? What the heck are you jabbering about?
CCC: ” 2105 The duty of offering God genuine worship concerns man both individually and socially.
This is the traditional Catholic teaching on the moral duty of individuals and societies toward the true religion and the one Church of Christ.
By constantly evangelizing men, the Church works toward enabling them to infuse the Christian spirit into the mentality and mores, laws and structures of the communities in which [they] live.
The social duty of Christians is to respect and awaken in each man the love of the true and the good.
It requires them to make known the worship of the ONE TRUE RELIGION which subsists in the CATHOLIC and apostolic Church.
Christians are called to be the light of the world. Thus, the Church shows forth the kingship of Christ over all creation and in particular over human societies. ”
CCC: ” 890 The mission of the Magisterium is linked to the definitive nature of the covenant established by God with his people in Christ. It is this Magisterium’s task to preserve God’s people from deviations and defections and to guarantee them the objective possibility of professing the TRUE FAITH WITHOUT ERROR.
Thus, the pastoral duty of the Magisterium is aimed at seeing to it that the People of God abides in the truth that liberates. To fulfill this service, Christ endowed the Church’s shepherds with the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals. The exercise of this charism takes several forms.”
CCC: ” 939 Helped by the priests, their co-workers, and by the deacons, the BISHOPS have the duty of AUTHENTICALLY TEACHING thr FAITH, celebrating divine worship, above all the Eucharist, and guiding their Churches as true pastors. Their responsibility also includes concern for all the Churches, with and under the Pope. ”
(caps are mine)
One example of vague and wordy and open to almost any interpretation one can come up with: “By constantly evangelizing men, the Church works toward enabling them to infuse the Christian spirit into the mentality and mores, laws and structures of the communities in which [they] live.”
YFC, if I were your spiritual counsellor, I would tell you to knock off the drama and try to be a better ‘listener’. You read what you want into what people say and then go off half-cocked and make over-the-top replies. Read my lips…”Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.”
If you think Jesus was lying, and that there are many truths, it’s time for you to do some very serious reflection on just what it is you DO believe. When the Irish converted Europe and Russia, they didn’t do so with armies…and the war in Ireland is not nor ever has been about religion but about nationhood….it’s incidental that the occupying English in Ireland are protestants.
YFC Dana really has your best interest at heart, God bless her…she gave you really great advice. It’s refreshing to read others that really care and I pray that you would embrace her guidance to you. It comes from a good place. God bless you!
The Irish converted Russia ???!!! I guess then that Cyril and Methodius are good old Celtic names, eh?
Read the amazing history of the Irish ’empire’…Nat’l Geo. did a wonderful article on it years ago on the largest empire in the history of the world…the Irish Empire. Their influence was incalculable. The BBC did a five part documentary on the Irish Empire in 1999.
OK, Dana, history shows the Celts expanded throughout Europe as far as the Black Sea (Galatia, I think), reaching their furthest extent about 700 years before Christ. Interesting also because that was the time the major Prophets fired up their chariots, and about the time Greece began its ascent to fame. But were those Celts Irish? And more importantly today, why does it seem that the Irish in power are in terrible decline, having cast their morals to the winds? They had been beaten back to a small island until St Patrick, a Frenchman, saved them all. Then the Irish rose up with the Cross of Jesus and conquered a great part of the world for Heaven … guess they got tired of it and are kicking back today, chillin’ out, and in general lollygagging about, doing little with their fightin’ Irish talents other than fighting Jesus instead of the devil.
This ’empire’ was not a physical empire in the literal sense. Sheesh. This was an empire of learning where Irish priests and bishops established centers of learning and faith, little outposts of culture in a dark world. Their monastic culture stretched across Europe into Russia and kept the fires of faith and culture burning bright. They had as much influence as they would have if they’d had armies…only in this case their swords were the swords of truth. Secular culture wants you to believe that the dark ages were really dark and lost. This is a lie. Also, it is strange that as a Catholic you do not know this. It has absolutely nothing to do with Celts, a subject that I’m utterly bored to death with after ten years of having so-called Celtic culture flung at us from Las Vegas style Riverdance Rockettes to endless books and CD’s . You might had to really do some research to find the story about this pre-medival ’empire’ that was basically as gossimer as spider webs and as mercurial as light beams.
Warren you are correct, there is one Rock…one true Catholic Faith! God bless you!
Douay-Rheims Bible Matthew 16:18
“And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
an INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE is an honest acknowledgement that there are many religions on this world (inclduing jews, muslims, buddhists…)
we can’t close our eyes like ostriches and pretend that only catholics exist.
working together with people of other religions is not a bad thing, especially when you are trying to do something for the common good, like reducing violence, protecting the environment, and so forth.
when the HOLY FATHER takes part in “interfaith prayer services” it doesn’t mean he’s given up his CATHOLIC FAITH, but rather that he wants to make this world a better place by collaroating with other human beings.
In my journey from atheism to Catholicism, every encounter with the Catholic church, such as attending a prayer service or Mass or talking with a priest, moved me closer to the Truth of Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church. Encounters with Catholic individuals did not have that effect escept for the ones who gave me a book or a Bible or a rosary. However their prayers may have benefitted me. Ultimately, the Blessed Virgin Mary was the cause of my redemption.
That’s great, anonymous. God is so good, so loving…’what is man that Thou art mindful of him?” Our Blessed Mother is truly the perfect mother!
Max, we don’t pretend that other religions don’t exist, but we are to evangelize and return them or convert them to Jesus Christ and the Church He established so there will be “one fold and one Shepherd”. When we meet with all manners of religions and fail to put forth our position we are allowing them to stay in the dark. We cannot hide our Faith. We must keep it in the light so all can see. Allowing apostates and pagans to have seats of honor in our Catholic churches without teaching them what Christ stands for is a terrible failure and leaves all others with the belief that we have no firm beliefs at all.
Editor, thank you for changing the headline from “honor” to “host”. I see that you are committed to the truth. I know that problems come with “wiki-ization.”
I do not agree with the condemnation of this event. It’s an inter-faith service which, by definition, means people will attend who do not hold Catholic beliefs. Any cathedral in a governmental capitol hosts events of this kind, which include the local elected officials (in all their compromised glory), and is much more about supporting our democracy (such as it is) than in making any sort of religious statement. Complaining because secularist politicians show up at a public, interfaith event specifically for politicians is simply ridiculous.
I recently received in my e-mail a note about how Pastor Lou Giglio, an influential evangelical pastor from Atlanta, was invited to give the benediction at President Obama’s inauguration, and instead withdrew recently under fire from gay activists. Guess they only want “their side” visible, too.
I don’t want to play this game. I refuse to demand that everyone agree with me. God woos us as the bridegroom woos the bride; our job is to make the Church and its truths irresistable, to “woo” those who think they disagree with us, not bully them into some sort of weird ideological prison.
I don’t think people are as much concerned about it being an inter-faith conference as to who and what is being promoted. Also, people express their views because until such a time as it becomes illegal, we still have free speech. God woos because he omniscient, omnipresent and the beginning in the end. We’re tiny little feeble voices decrying sin. You go ahead and woo, but it sounds like mind games to me. I’m not God so I use what weapons He put at my disposal for unlike you, I’m at war and part of the Church militant against the forces of evil. When I’m with people of like minds, aka fellow Catholics, I am glad to be able to clairfy or learn ideas even if they disagree with my own. It shouldn’t threaten anyone.
Dana,
What a wonderful response! “When I am with people of like minds, aka fellow Catholics, I am glad to be able to clarify or learn ideas even if they disagree with my own. It shouldn’t threaten anyone.”
Thank you for encouraging others to place their love and trust in God first instead of leaning on weaknesses first. Thank you for encouraging others to always strive to follow “all” of the teachings of the Catholic Church no matter what their individual strengths, weaknesses, joys, sorrows or crosses in life may be. Thank you for seeing each individual as deserving and worthy and quite capable of hearing and understanding the complete truth without excuses or distractions that pull them or others away from wanting to seek the fullness of the truth contained in Church teaching. Dana I commend you for rising to the occasion of truly placing your trust in God when you could have just as easily turned sorrow inward and given yourself a giant lengthy permission slip to flounder aimlessly and rebel against specific teachings of his Church.
Dana, I remember when I received an unexpected gift of great kindness when my daughter was four years old and had already undergone numerous surgeries, medical treatments, various medical disorders, issues, illnesses, cruelty from mankind, bullying at pre-school and so on. One day after a doctor’s appointment to schedule more surgeries, the chief of pediatrics gave me the kindest gift of motivating encouragement. He said, “I would really like to commend you on something, “I’ve noticed how you treat your daughter as if she had no difficulties. You speak to her and you treat her as if she was a completely normal and healthy child who never had any struggles. You expect her to learn, to behave, and follow instructions. You have complemented your daughter by raising the bar of expectations and she has risen to those expectations. You have done her the greatest favor. Then he said, “I see many parents of completely healthy children and they do not treat their child with the same level of respect. They lower the bar of expectations. They let them misbehave, they make excuses for them and in the long run this ends up hurting the child because it makes it even more difficult for them to reach their full potential.”
Dana, I did not turn this golden opportunity into a lifelong reason to remain crippled and angry with this doctor and tell him how dare you infer that my daughter is not normal or suffering from disorders. I did not go out into the community to yell and scream, “You have taken away her dignity and not seen her as fully human.” Dana, that doctor showed real charity by encouraging me with the truth.
Dana, wasn’t that the nicest and kindest gift. Well, that is what you have been doing on CCD so I would like to commend you and encourage you to continue using your wonderfully spunky and loving gift of real charity and kindness, I know Abeca Christian is also just as grateful and appreciative of your thoughtfully clarifying posts that so easily pull the smooth sounding velvet curtain of chaos wide open to let everyone view the full picture and the complete truth. Keep up the good work! : )
Jesus never said, “Going therefore, woo ye all nations” or Many are woo-ed but few are chosen? Dana, No wonder there is so much confusion! There has been far too much woo-ing and not enough teaching! “My people perish for lack of knowledge” …Jesus never said “My people perish for lack of woo-ing.
Matthew 28:19-20
“Going therefore, *teach* ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Douay-Rheims

“The Role of the Church” Catholic Bible 101′
How do we know the Catholic Church is true? Because, according to the Bible, the true church has to be:
1. One (Romans 12:5)
2. Holy (Ephesians 5:25-27)
3. Catholic (Matthew 28:19-20)
4. Apostolic (Ephesians 2:19-20, Acts 1:15-26)
No other Church today can claim all 4 requirements; only the Catholic Church can.
…
“In summary, Jesus Himself created the Church, about 350 years before the Bible in its present form was canonized by the Church at the Councils of Rome, Hippo, and Carthage. Jesus told the Church in Matthew 28:18-20: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”
…
“Notice that Jesus didn’t say for the Church leaders to write everything down in a book, make sure that everyone gets a copy, have them figure it all out for themselves, and whatever they come up with is OK. No, he said for the Church to go forth and TEACH all nations. The Bible, of course, is the book that the Church uses to teach, but the authority of the Church must be taken into account when trying to understand its true meaning. The Bible itself warns us that some scripture is hard to understand (2 Peter 3:16), and warns us that misinterpretation can lead to our own destruction: “There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.”
…
“The Bible also talks about the need for someone to explain the true meaning of scripture, in Acts 8:30-35:”
I have a big lump in my throat, Catherine. Fortunately, I am typing rather that speaking, so it’s not so difficult to communicate. Thank you so much for understanding what I meant! I’m so used to alienating people, you’ve no idea what your and Abeca’s support means! Also, I love what you shared about your little girl, and I completely agree with what you said about raising the bar. I hope Fr. George Rutler won’t mind if I include a little quote of his from today’s message… “The cult of “self-esteem” foisted on young people in their schools is not a modern invention. The Prince of Lies told the very first man and woman: “You shall be like God” (Genesis 3:5). False pride is the alchemy for creating little AntiChrists. It was out of love that St. John wrote: “But we are children of God, and those who know God listen to us; those who are not of God refuse to listen to us” (1 John 4:6). I don’t feel I deserve such praise but I certainly appreciate it nonetheless! (grin) I wish more protestants could read your message on the Bible. I’ve never had anyone ask me “where’s that in the Bible?” But, I am ready with the response from Catholic Answers…”where does it say in the Bible, ‘where’s that in the Bible?” or sola scriptura, or any of those protestant techniques to try to confuse Catholics into doubting their faith. One of the greatest things for me about being Catholic is I can trust the Church’s interpretation of scripture. I no longer have to reinvent the wheel. I didn’t realize how stressful it is to try to figure out scripture til I no longer had to do it.
Dana yes Catherine is correct, I do appreciate your wisdom and also Catherine’s. Catherine you are humble, I am grateful for your wonderful story you told about that doctor. You are a good person who took his compliment the right way, you didn’t allow bitter pride to dominate and misunderstand this wonderful gift to you of encouragement, the doctor was giving you.
I do want to add is that good parents always do what is best for their children, but due to free will, not all kids appreciate that good in conservative parents, not all will honor their parents well and some will even resist and find fault in good parents. The outside influences are stronger, believe it or not. One can only pray for their conversion. I have a good friend who recently just converted, she grew up in a good Catholic home, very good parents but she was so rebellious and defiant in her teens. She hated her mum and always blamed her mum for everything. She left her faith. It was really her pride and sins that only deepened that indifference she had with the people who loved her.
Just barely in her 30’s that she forgave her mum,(which to be honest, she had nothing to forgive her for, she was just always filled with hate and was always negative and ungrateful to her own parents, especially her mum). She had to learn to trust God and believe that her sins were forgivable. She self punished and hated anyone that was a reminder of her imperfections or anything that made her feel bad about her bad will choices.
She just returned to the faith, had a conversion and forgave herself as well for having had an abortion when she was in her late teens. The bad choices she made, whenever she saw good, she felt unworthy, so her mum was good and she hated her mum for that. She hated her mum for being a “goodie two shoes” as that was what she use to think about her but now she see’s things differently. She had so much guilt and the easiest thing for her was to hate her mum and only picked on her imperfections.
It was an interesting story that she shared with me about her life. Now that she has her kids and they are teenagers and give her a hard time, she realized how prideful she had always been, that she had to admit her wrong doing. She went to visit her mum and asked for her forgiveness. Wow, that is truly a person who had a miraculous conversion, wow who does that? I admire her humility to do that and give her mum that gift. It’s a good thing that she finally had that conversion, too bad it took her into her early 30’s to finally go to confession and confess those sins and the unjust things she had built up against the very woman who gave life to her and only tried to give her the best.
It’s sad when people never repent and waste life going around hating and never forgiving. It’s crazy what the mind does to anyone that chooses to imagine the worst out of people, sometimes it can make a person sick mentally.
I have figured out a way to ruin the golf game of just about anyone on the thread, assuming they play golf of course. In the middle of their back swing I would simply say the word “GAY”. That would ruin the rest of their game. If that didn’t work, I would wait for them to begin their putting stroke and whisper “Obama”. This site has become a hot house for gay bashers. And, no I’m not gay! But, gay people are human beings too, and deserve more respect than they are often shown on this site. If one believes that having an attraction to the same sex is a terrible thing, so be it. That doesn’t create a reason for all the bashing that is going on. Gay people need to be welcomed at all of the Catholic parishes because they are people of God, created in his image. are they not? If you believe being gay is a sin, which it is not, then pray for conversion. Otherwise, welcome them to your parish. In a capitol city of an state of the union, legislators should always be welcomed to inter-faith services, no matter their vote on specific issues. That is how it works in a democratic society. That is how the church can meet them.
Bob, do you believe that sodomy is a sin? What is your definition of “gay”? The word implies that the person to whom it is applied is an active homosexual – a sodomite. Having homosexual inclinations, not acted upon, although disordered, is not necessarily a sin. With this subject matter it is critical to define the terms. (But you undoubtedly know this and are trying to fool less savvy readers.)
Bob One,
“And NO I’m not gay” That’s insulting. Why do you need to disqualify yourself? Maybe you are not as diverse as you think you are. The truth is for all men and women. God has given you so much. Please stop lowering the bar of expectations in your fellow man. You seem to only know how to add a longer chain to that ball of imprisonment.
Catherine, I will not go back to my church because I was treated so rudely by my pastor today. He acts like he is so Jesus-like, so pro-life, so pro-love. BS. He’s a jerk. So I don’t consider him a Christian. Even if he’s Catholic, even if he’s a priest. He is not a follower of Jesus Christ. By their fruits you shall know them. If you can’t be nice to people, you are not a follower of Christ and you will only lead people away from him.
Wow so much anger here….k you feel targeted at times and if you do, why do you still continue then to comment to the people whom you feel ill about? I’m only saying because if you don’t like your pastor, I have to question what is the real issue there. I hope you don’t leave Jesus, I know many people who do not think that Jesus is nice. It’s a sad reality. Jesus is love but there are people who hate Him by the lifestyles choices they make. It just breaks my heart.
God loves His children, He has been known to even discipline them. What He does is always perfect.
abeca, well I was angry and I should not have written what I wrote. I don’t feel ill about Catherine. I keep thinking if I had left the Church when she told me to, then this would not have happened. I do not dislike my pastor; but I do have a problem when somebody gives big sermons about love and pro-life and doing for Jesus and then is rude to someone who asks if we are going to do a pro-life devotion. I think max and Mark are right; he just was probably tired and overwhelmed and wanted to get to his lunch. Catherine may be right that I don’t belong in the Church, but I don’t want to leave Jesus so I won’t leave. You are right that what God does is perfect. Because this happened I found the new TLM that is only 30 miles from my house. Before the closest one was 100 miles.
What did you do to invoke such a response?
asked him if we were going to do the holy hour for life
Ephesians 6:11-12
11 Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil.
12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

Taken from Wikipedia Description: Wingman
A wingman (or wingmate) is a pilot who supports another in a potentially dangerous flying environment. Wingman was originally a term referring to the plane flying beside and slightly behind the lead plane in an aircraft formation.
According to the U.S. Air Force,
The traditional military definition of a “Wingman” refers to the pattern in which fighter jets fly. There is always a lead aircraft and another which flies off the right wing of and behind the lead. This second pilot is called the “Wingman” because he or she primarily protects the lead by “watching his back.”
cont.
The wingman’s role is to add an element of mutual support to aerial combat. The presence of a wingman makes the flight both offensively and defensively more capable by increasing firepower and situational awareness, permits the attacking of enemies, and increases the ability to employ more dynamic tactics.
Basketball Terminology Give and go” — a very basic play where after passing to a team-mate, the passer quickly cuts toward the basket, and receives the return pass back from his team-mate for the lay-up.
Football – Punt Fake Pass
Although teams sometimes use fake punts to exploit a weakness in the opposing team’s defense, a fake punt is very rare, and often used in desperate situations, such as to keep a drive alive when a team is behind and needs to catch up quickly, or to spark an offense in a game where the defense dominates. The high risk and low success rate[citation needed] of “fake punts”, combined with the need to maintain an element of surprise when the play is actually called, explains why this play is seldom seen.
Volleyball – Dig-Set- Spike
Volleyball is a complex game of simple skills. A purely rebound sport (you can’t hold the ball), volleyball is a game of constant motion. A team can touch the ball three times on its side of the net. The usual pattern is a dig (an underarm pass made with the forearms) followed by a set (an overhead pass made with the hands) and followed by a spike (the overhead attacking shot). The ball is served into play. Teams can also try to block the opponent’s spike as it crosses the net.
“tired and overwhelmed” are no excuse for a jerk, k. “tired and overwhelmed” are the norm for any decent priest or monk. Why your particular priest acted the jerk is his big big problem … What else is he hiding that he has not matured about? What else is he hiding that is contradictory to Catholicism?
Bob One –
Although I have not read every single thread, I have not heard anyone bash those with “same-sex attraction” at all. Those with same-sex attraction can get to Heaven.
Yes, sodomy (mortal sin) has been condemned by many writers, and should be – even by you.
Those who actively and publically support the mortal sin of Sodomy should not be given a place of honor or be permitted to speak a a public function in any Catholic Church.
These politicians should not be advertised as participants so they can gain “Catholic” votes.
SCANDAL is also a mortal sin. Please read the CCC.
BOB ONE, i only allow the truly perfect to be in MY presence.
hmm…this may explain my empty living room…
Hold the presses! I have a happy solution for all of you who feel discriminated against because posters here use the Biblical expression “sodomites” to specifically refer to those of same-sex attraction. Let’s use the all inclusive ‘fornicators and adulterers”…that way you can find yourselves in the heady company of Swartzeneggers, Kennedys, and so many others and not feel persecuted for what is basically a pretty heterogenous failing not limited as to gender, occupation or race. Also, fornicator has a certain cache’ that through history has famous literary expression (The Scarlet Letter, Madame Bovary) and avant garde panache. The film Brokeback Mountain shows how homosexual men can have the same problems as married couples and also how adultery has always been a great moneymaker for Hollywood moguls, whether they’re peddling same-sex or hetero attraction. Sex sells. Adultery really sells. One can readily see the necessity of homosexuals’ eagerness to get into the marriage game so they too can experience the ups and downs of divorce and separation, suffer the same zeitgeist as the rest of the world, and endure the same ‘buyers remorse’ when relationships fail. Think of the $$$$ to be made by the same people (aka lawyers) who brought us no-fault divorce, legal abortion, inroads against the constitution, laws undermining Church teaching and religious freedom, etc. etc. etc. Actually, I think we should re-name the word lawyers, to shysters. Everyone will still know what you mean but it is more in keeping with what this conscience-less, morally corrupt and basically heartless subgroup of American culture really are. Have I left anyone out? Now, when you read the Bible and see the expression “adulterer and fornicator” you can take it to heart if it applies to you without feeling singled out or persecuted.
The Lord works in mysterious ways. In looking up the Mass times for the next nearest church to me, I find that they have begun the TLM there twice a month. So I will amend my post. Those who seek the Lord will find him even if you are not nice.
“I will not go back to my church because I was treated so rudely by my pastor today.”
k, why in the world would you let one priest have so much power over you?
if it is indeed your parish, why should you have to move just because he was having a bad day, or because he’s a jerk?
stick around.
stay active.
show up for everything.
priests get moved around — and IF he is truly offensive on a regular basis, TELL him. maybe he’ll mend his ways — or you’ll drive him crazy so much (like that unjust judge in the parable), he’ll HAVE to mend his ways because you are on his case, challenging him to be better, getting into his head.
K, Max gives you good advice here. Maybe your pastor was just having a bad day. When I was in school and someone wasn’t that nice to me, I just tried to be nice to them and thought that maybe they were having a bad day. Say a prayer for your pastor, maybe he needs it. Remember, too err is human, to forgive, divine. We are all imperfect and have our faults and failings, this includes priests.
MARK, thanks for your feedback.
a priest friend of mine, newly ordained, was yelled at and insulted DURING COMMUNION TIME by come cranky parishioner because he didn’t know the custom there in terms of traffic patterns.
if that priest friend of mine had left the parish in a huff, he would have missed out on five whole years of wonderful ministry in that parish — and the people woud have missed out on him, who turned out to be a great priest for them.
max and Mark, I think you are right. He was probably tired and hungry. My husband already nixed the driving 30 miles to church every Sunday idea. He will probably let me go to the new TLM but I can’t kneel so that might be a problem. You are right. I overreacted and was not following Christ when I posted. I will try to get behind him again.
k, forget the rude priest. Kneeling is waived for someone who cannot do so … Catholicism, k, is common sense despite what the BOs and maxes put on all the time. Your posts display common sense, but also a kind of “adjustment” caused by some sort of over ride no doubt being manipulated by the pseudo-Catholic clergy … They excel at it, k. Don’t be fooled; common sense, gut feeling, and so forth are your keys to what God created in you; don’t let people manipulate you; use common sense.
Hugs all round! God bless you k, and your priest might be praying about it right this minute!
Thanks Dana!
Skai, thank you.
