Yesterday Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced he will lead a new monthly Litany in Reparation in Honor of the Most Blessed Sacrament via Zoom sponsored by the Benedict XVI Institute:
“The Holy Eucharist is Christ Himself coming to us under the appearance of bread and wine,” said Archbishop Cordileone, “With the decline of Catholics who believe this central truth of our faith, there is an increasing failure to respect the Blessed Sacrament as we should.
“That is why I’m inviting all Catholics to pray with me via Zoom each month a Litany in Reparation for abuses against the Holy Eucharist. All can sign up to join me and hundreds of other to pray together at BenedictInstitute.org.”
The first of these Litanies takes place today, Friday, July 30 at 3 pm. Pacific.
The above comes from a July 29 email from the Benedict XVI Institute.
Please help me understand: exactly what are abuses of the Blessed Sacrament? For example, will the litany include priests who molested children and celebrated Holy Mass and received the Body and Blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ? Or a married couple practicing artificial contraception and receiving Holy Communion anyway? Or diocesan officials discriminating against innocent children because of their parents lifestyle and the officials receive Holy Communion anyway? Please clarify.
Children are a whole lot smarter than what we think. If parents are not living the Faith, children sooner or later see and hear the hypocrisy. If the priest is not living the teachings of the church, they see and hear that also. We are all called to repent of any of those sins you mentioned, and to change our lives for the better. Period! That would include parents living in sin. Talk to an orthodox Catholic priests, not ones who tells you what you want to hear. Criminal activity should be atoned for, or justly punished. We should not do any litany if we have not repented, or do not intend to do so.
Ok this man should be Pope.
I recall these vestments the Archbishop is wearing in the picture, it was a few years back in Washington DC at the Basilica of the Immaculate conception when he offered The Traditional Latin Mass. Sadly the Cardinal Archbishop of Washington DC Wilton Gregory canceled the upcoming August 14th traditional Latin Mass no surprise there Gregory was no fan of the TLM during his tenure in Atlanta Georgia. So go ahead and cancel a Mass that was going to be packed with devout Catholics it makes no sense whatsoever or does it???
If Traditionis Custodes hadn’t gone into effect, I’m confident the scheduled Mass would have still occurred. Blame the new liturgical laws, and get used to them.

Amateurs wrote that appeal to Cardinal Gregory. Catholics do not have a right to the TLM. Vatican II declared that the 1962 Missal was to be revised and replaced. They cite Sacrosanctum Concilium 4 without realizing the equality of rites means the Eastern Catholic rites in relation to the Roman Rite, not the 1962 Missal in relation to the 1970 Missal.
The Roman Rite has one normative liturgical expression: the Novus Ordo. The TLM is not equal to it; it is inferior for it has been replaced by the Novus Ordo.
If this group of Catholics is more devoted to the TLM than it is to union with the Church and obedience to the Holy Father’s legislation that the TLM is to be curtailed immediately, then they seem to have schismatic leanings.
As I have said before, there is an easy solution to this: celebrate a Novus Ordo Mass instead. Problem solved. If they won’t do that, then they are making the TLM into an idol and are definitely schismatic.
Indeed, I would second this proposal. They can offer the Ordinary Form in line with a more traditional manner of celebration (I wouldn’t use the term “novus ordo” as it has been used by divisive people as a derogatory term, but be that as it may). They can offer it in Latin, with polyphonies, even ad orientem. The possibilities are there because, face it people, the Mass of Paul VI reverently offered is the future of the Church. I’ve been saying that here for years; admittedly I didn’t know it was going to be through a motu propio, but so be it.
Abuses against the Most Blessed Sacrament includes the sacrilegious communions made by those who obstinately persevere in manifest grave sin as pointed out in Canon 915. Those who give communion to those public figures who present themselves for communion may be held to an even higher accounting by God.
“No more TLM”, you have all your facts wrong and don’t tell me what to do and what Mass to attend who do you think you are Joe Biden and the Democrat party. You can attend your Novus Ordo with: clowns, giant puppets, altar girls, male and female lectors, lay people handing out communion as if it were candy, drums, guitars, pianos, hand holding, kiss of peace, improper attire, rock, folk, mariachi, jazz music, communion in the hand while standing, silly Protestant hymns, lesbian nuns and effeminate men in leotards with streamers and incense bowls prancing around the Novus Ordo table looking like a scene out of Ben Hur, felt banners, priests running up and down the aisle like comedians. The Traditional Latin Mass was codified by the Council of Trent never to be abrogated and the Second Vatican Council never intended all of the above to happen, so please get your facts straight before spewing the Left wing modernistic talking points, and I will attend the Traditional Latin Mass without your Kingly approval.
Thus the above post exemplifies Pope Francis’ claim that he read many reports from bishops worldwide that a significant number of people attached to the TLM are fomenting discord in the Church. They have been pretending to be in union with the post-conciliar church as long as they could have their beloved time-capsule, museum Mass. Now that their beloved museum Mass is being taken away, they will choose their golden calf TLM celebrated by SSPX over Jesus Christ and union with his church.
Thank you, Pope Francis, for exposing the schismatics in the church. Brilliant strategy, and necessary for church unity.
The museum Mass as you call it was and is the Mass of saints for centuries and for the whole Church The Bishop of Rome who we do not worship has no authority to do what he did, as the website Rorate said Francis will die however the TLM will live on and can never die. I gave you all of the rubbish that has been going on for 50 years since the “New Springtime” began yet you have no answer to deny any of it besides calling it a museum Mass and a golden calf such silly responses my dear friend and we actually thank Francis for what he did it only made our case stronger and has attracted more people to the TLM to save their souls. Your not my confessor nor my judge only Christ can do that, your Mass is only 50 years old conceived by a Freemason Bugnini and six Protestant ministers all are proven facts whilst The Traditional Latin Mass has been around since the apostles with minor changes over the ages yet still would be recognized by them and the saints.
This is wrong.
Get away from anyone who tells you this stuff.
Again RA is wrong. Firstly, of course the Supreme Pontiff has the authority and the right to amend any of the liturgical disciplines of the Church. The liturgy is not immutable.
Secondly, much worse than your clowns and guitars and tambourines in the Ordinary Form, the TLM actually has an egregious deviation from the witness of Scripture. The priest during the Canon while quoting the words of Our Lord at the Last Supper is being made to say “mysterium fidei.” None of the four Gospels records those words of Our Lord at the Last Supper, yet the priest is egregiously being made to say it. This is one of the prime reasons why the Mass of John XXIII had to be revised. Accretions like this in the liturgy over the centuries the provenance of which had been lost in the mist of time, just had to be either curtailed, discontinued, amended, or revised.
If RA is going to catalogue egregious things in the liturgy I say that “mysterium fade” is a very egregious deviation from the witness of Scripture. Thank goodness for “Sacrosanctum concilium” and for Vatican II.
You should read the encyclical Mediator Dei by Pope Pius XII. It states:
“58. It follows from this that the Sovereign Pontiff alone enjoys the right to recognize and establish any practice touching the worship of God, to introduce and approve new rites, as also to modify those he judges to require modification.”
The pope has full authority over the Church’s liturgy. The liturgy is not above nor beyond the authority of the pope to revise. The TLM is not above nor beyond the pope’s authority to change or suppress.
Pope Paul VI promulgated a revision of the Roman Rite in accord with the decree of the Second Vatican Council in Sacrosanctum Concilium.
It doesn’t matter how long the preconciliar rite had been used. The pope changed it, and he had full authority to do so.
Every post you type further demonstrates that Pope Francis was right to do what he did in restricting and eventually eliminating the TLM.
Because you have to accept Vatican II. That’s part of Catholic faith now. It cannot be legitimately denied nor opposed.
TLMers are like Americans who insist that the Betsy Ross flag is better than the current American flag and they refuse to fly the current, new flag because they like how old the Betsy Ross flag is. Sorry, but the country has evolved since then. It’s the same country, but an evolved version of it that includes the past version.
Maybe we can get Cardinal Wuerl who receives 2 million dollars in 2020 for his ministry activities in Washington DC diocese give some insight to Cardinal Gregory on the TLM. Nice to be a retired Cardinal
Romulus Augustus: I am nearly 70 years and have never been to a Mass in the Ordinary Form as you describe it. Perhaps you have employed too much hyperbole in your remarks? When I was a boy serving as an altar server in the early 1960’s, I do remember serving at several Latin Masses at which the “good Father” was hung over from too much drinking on Saturday night and at Masses at which the priest was inebriated and could barely recite the prayers. So much for the majesty and grandeur associated with the Mass in the Extraordinary Form.
George, you have been blessed to have attended more reverent masses. Most of us have most of the time, but there have been serious abuses by priests at some post Vatican II masses. There have been abuses in various different cities in the United States and other countries. They are still shown on line. Just look up the “Halloween mass in Southern California” or “priest on skateboard mass” to get examples. You can also google “The abuses in the Catholic mass” and I am sure several will come up. I am talking about serious abuses, not just minor ones, some were corrected, some not.
George, regarding my last post, do not google my last suggestion “abuses at mass in the Catholic mass” as the sexual abuse situation will come up. Just google “the Halloween Mass”, where the priest allows the extra-ordinary minister to dress up as a witch, the organist as a devil or vampire right in the sanctuary. It was different from children dressing up as saints on All Saints Day., which is not secular but religious. Another example is the “priest on hoverboard during mass”. It was corrected, though. There are many more examples, even worse, in different countries but too hard to look them all up.
The Halloween Mass at Corpus Christi in Aliso Viejo happened once. It was 15 years ago. But the Internet never forgets. Never should of happened. But it was one pastor’s bad decision. It is not an example of what happens at Mass.
A litany of reparation

I said it just now
So there have been abuses involving both forms of the Holy Mass. As Pope Benedict XVI properly noted in Sumorum Pontificum, neither the Extraordinary Form nor the Ordinary Form of the Holy Mass is superior to the other form.
