1957 Interview

Mike Wallace, the CBS reporter who co-hosted 60 Minutes, died on Saturday, April 21 at the age of 93. LifeSiteNews.com ran a story on Wallace’s 1967 documentary on homosexuals on April 23. At the bottom of this story on the 1967 documentary, there was a link to a 1957 interview with Margaret Sanger. Excerpts from the LifeSiteNews story on the Sanger interview follow.

In 1957, an aging Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood and the international birth control movement, agreed to an interview with CBS News’ Mike Wallace.

In stark contrast with the sympathetic reception Sanger could expect to receive today in a network television interview, Wallace hammered Sanger with difficult questions and caught her in contradictions, while Sanger squirmed, fidgeted, and denied statements she had made only a week earlier in pre-interview discussions with CBS staff.

This fascinating and sometimes chilling interview with Sanger can be found at the website of the Harry Ransom Center, which is located at the University of Texas, and which has published all of the installments of the Mike Wallace Interview from 1957 and 1958.

In the interview, Sanger expounds upon her views on a variety of topics, including birth control, eugenics, population growth, homosexuality, marriage, and religion.

Among the more revealing moments is Sanger’s explanation of the “greatest sin” of having children who violate her eugenic standards, and “have no chance … to be a human being practically.”

Asked if she believes in sin, Sanger tells Wallace: “I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world, that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically, delinquents, prisoners, all sorts of things, just marked when they’re born. That to me is the greatest sin that a people can commit.”

I’ve never heard Margaret Sanger speak and I am amazed at her incoherence in answering Wallace’s very clear questions. This video would never take place in our current MSM! If you google Mike Wallace – 1957 interview with Margaret Sanger you will be able to hear the full interview (replete with a cigarette commercial…, which you cannot fast forward through).

It is sad that she had to wait until she meet Jesus at her last breath to find out what God calls sin. Let us pray that we won’t be doing the same and to get right with God now. On our death bed it might be too late to repent as the evil one will be attacking us to keep from asking for God’s Mercy. +JMJ+

I’ve seen video of that interview. The most striking aspect was her tone of cold arrogance throughout.

RIP Mike Wallace. This is useful if frightening educational material. I’ve never seen that face of evil prior. The image makes her look like a bobble-head.

Sanger is really feeling the HEAT now. Such evil that walks the earth and think they can play God. God will not be mocked! Thank you for this article and location on where to find this video. It will be used to educate many.

My computer can not open the “click here” link so I will use the Harry Ransom website. California Catholic Daily provides news we can use—a great service at a time when most Catholic news sources are near worthless. The editor replies: The link has now been fixed and seems to be working fine.

Apparently the Wallace interview was given little media attention or people weren’t willing to listen. Will it be any different now? People, religious, fail to understand that PP is bent on wiping out whole communities of people. The environmentalists cry over one animal that’s abused or killed and command headlines to proclaim their grief. Yet, PP continues on and gives and receives rewards for killing human babies. Million of dollars to train one person to kill the child of another and we all turn our heads.

Keep in mind that Planned Parenthood continues to honor Margaret Sanger – even despite her racist statements and eugenics activities. Does that tell you something about Planned Parenthood? These facts should be more widely disseminated.

This is very creepy! This woman believed that she was a god, it sounds like it by her defiance. How does she differ from Hitler? I don’t know but by reading a little bit of this article it helps explain where many hold these same believes and that is why they have no issue performing abortions. I have someone close to us who works for Planned Parenthood and I keep praying for this individual and I keep admonishing with love on the great evils of Planned Parenthood but I think that Sanger was presented to her in a positive light and feminism has taken over and has made her stick to those evil liberal views.

Supreme Court Justice Ginsberg said we have populations which are too great in number. In contrast to Wallace in ’57 the NY Times interviewer gave it a pass. The labor of living the truth with love continues and remains painstaking. In light of today’s readings in celebration of Mark, we pray for deeper humility before the truth and generosity and fortitude in living the truth with love – With loyalty to the Kingdom making us the most loyal Americans.
