From Facebook event:
“The Earth Day Mass Celebration is an opportunity for us to celebrate the earth and be mindful of how to make improvements to conserve the earth’s resources for future generations.
Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy mass and to enjoy lunch”.
I think you misconstrued the meaning of the word “Mass” in this instance. The usage means “a large number of people gathered together”, not the celebration of Catholic Mass. In other words, it’s an Earth Day large gathering celebration, not an Earth Day celebration of Mass.
i just read the online bulletin for st columba’s, stating, ‘mass from 10:30, lunch from 12:00 noon”.
Thanks for your comment. While confusing, this is indeed an outdoor Catholic Mass. St. Columba’s calls it an “Earth Day Mass” in their bulletin. The Facebook event (linked above) is for an “Earth Day Celebration Mass”. We’ve updated the story to make this more clear.
Thank You Sawyer for pointing this out to the ignorant. A Catholic Mass is Christ Crucified on the Cross and nothing more. But again the “Spirit” of V2 is festering more and more.
How many trees were murdered to make the paper the bulletins were printed on? And what about the parish encouraging the use of lawn chairs which have toxic plastics in them? And what about all the damage to the green grass from people stepping on it? Don’t the ants living there have a right to a peaceful environment? I’m so confused! Isn’t Earth, Wind and Fire an old 70″s music group? Are they the opening act for the Mass?
Brother Sun and Sister Moon.?
Oh wait, that was the most beloved Saint in the entire history of the Church.
The Schism can’t come soon enough
When are they going to honor Mars, Venus, and Mercury? There are various asteroids, comets, and stars that they can honor, too. They are an inclusive bunch, after all.
in the late 70’s a priest of the diocese of richmond had his ordination held at the new landfill for the norfolk area call ‘mt trashmore’ if i remember correctly, it was meant to express care for the earth as well as ‘transformation-resurrection’ through cooperating with nature.
correction. mt trashmore is in virginia beach and has grown into a park as dumping continued over the years.
