The following comes from an August 18 Catholic News Agency article:
Later this month, a Marian Procession and Votive Mass will help celebrate the 235th anniversary of the city of Los Angeles, California – which was named after Mary, Queen of Angels.
The August 27 festivities, hosted by the Queen of Angels Foundation, will be open to the public. A Votive Mass will be held at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. At 4:15 p.m., a Grand Marian Procession to the Our Lady Queen of Angels Church “La Placita” in Olvera Street will take place, concluding with a blessing at 5:15 p.m.
Leading the 6th Annual Grand Marian Procession will be Bishop Robert Barron, Auxiliary Bishop for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region. He will also celebrate the Votive Mass.
“This is a great city and it is most appropriate that any celebration of the city take note of the important contribution of those Catholics who in many ways made Los Angeles what it is today,” Bishop Barron said. “I’m very much looking forward to joining with the many faithful people who will come together to shine a light on the historical bonds between the city they love and their desire to serve God.”
Other participants in the procession will include members of the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Peter Claver, the Order of Malta, the Order of St. Lazarus, the Order of St. Gregory, and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher, along with lay and religious members of the archdiocese.
The Queen of Angels Foundation is a non-profit group that works to foster devotion to Our Lady of the Angels, the patroness and protector of Los Angeles city, county and archdiocese.
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
“Eve, by her disobedience, tied the knot of disgrace for the human race; whereas Mary, by her obedience, undid it.”
We need ever more pilgrimages. Bishop Robert Barron will do an excellent job. He is a precious nexus betwee Sl.John’s seminary and the Santa Barbara/Ventura region diocese. If we could convince him to restore Teaching of Latin to future priests it would be the best outcome for the vetus Ordo in our region.
We DO need ever more pilgrimages, but more importantly, we NEED the Fullness of Truth. Gracias, The most “precious nexus” between St. John’s seminary and the Santa Barbara/Ventura region diocese IS God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Ghost. Jesus is God. Jesus’s wisdom did not evolve over time. His (Jesus’s) wisdom was always perfectly infused. To say otherwise, is a false teaching, even if taught in Latin.

The Catholic Tradition is that Christ had infused knowledge of His own identity and mission. But Bishop Barron chooses instead to promote the heretical novelty of Balthasar that Christ had to learn about His identity through a gradual enlightening of His consciousness.

For example, in his Lenten Meditations, then-Father Barron offers this commentary on the Baptism of the Lord:
“Jesus has just been baptized. He has just learned his deepest identity and missionand now he confronts—as we all must—the great temptations. What does God want him to do? Who does God want him to be? How is he to live his life?” Jesus has “just learned his deepest identity and mission” at His baptism, implying that He was in positive ignorance of his identity and mission before this moment?”

In celebrating the important contributions of “those Catholics who in many ways made Los Angeles what it is today,” the CNA article cites “our ancestors.” I don’t think it’s fair to blame them.
But kudos to the authors for reminding us that Los Angeles is named for Our Lady.
