The following was sent to Cal Catholic on Dec. 11 by one of our readers, Leonard Michaels.

How did it happen in California?  How did the unthinkable brutality of baby killing become not only socially acceptable but highly profitable?

Only forty-five years ago, the killing of an unborn human being was a criminal act, abhorred by the majority and rejected by the medical profession.

The prevailing mindset was formed by leading physicians such as Nicholson Eastman, M.D. of John Hopkins University and chief emeritus of the Hopkins obstetrics hospital, who was considered the father of modern obstetrics.  As early as 1940 he wrote in Expectant Motherhood:

“Modern methods of care have so surrounded the whole process of prenatal care with multiple safeguards that the likelihood of a serious complication developing is exceedingly remote.”

“Life begins for each of us at an unfelt, unknown, and unhonored instant when a minute, wriggling sperm plunges headlong into a mature ovum or egg.”

“Unless the mother’s health is at stake, no reputable member of the profession would undertake such a procedure (abortion), for it constitutes murder.”

In the late 1950s and the 1960s, the organized Left, centered primarily in New York City, was pushing the concept of worldwide overpopulation crisis caused by the number of minorities from Asia and Africa. With the urging of the Sierra Club, Professor Paul Ehrlich of Stanford University wrote his Population Bomb, an alarmist, fear-mongering Malthusian work which set the stage for the solution — Planned Parenthood.  The enemy was those people who reproduced, i.e., made children.

Population control was disguised as “family planning” and it was presented as patriotic to have only two children or less in the United States. Contraception and the eventually, the killing of a mother’s unborn child through abortion became the final solution.

Nowhere is the population control pogrom so evident and so well-funded as in California.

In about 1990, fresh from his travels to be photographed with Mother Teresa, Jerry Brown ran for chairman of the California Democratic Party. When Brown mentioned that he was reconsidering his pro-abortion position, the chief operatives of the party (John Burton and Henry Waxman) told Brown he could not become chairman unless he championed abortion. Brown, eager to ascend politically, not only announced his strong pro-abortion position but also helped make abortion of the unborn a permanent plank in the Democratic Party platform.

More importantly, it was established that ONLY pro-abortion candidates for office would be backed by the Democratic Party. As a result ALL elected Democrats are militantly dedicated to the killing of unborn babies.

Money, BIG money, started flowing into Planned Parenthood which became Jerry Brown’s biggest political advocates.

When Jerry Brown ran for governor of California in 2010, he announced:

“I have also been an uncompromising champion of a woman’s right to choose. I will continue to do so if I am elected Governor.”

By 2013 a review of the Planned Parenthood businesses in California reveals that Planned Parenthoods in California are the most profitable Planned Parenthoods in the United States. About 70 percent of the income comes from government sources. Planned Parenthood administrators take astronomical salaries.  For example, Linda Williams of PP Mar Monte has a yearly salary of $379,000.

Cashing in on the partnership with Governor Jerry Brown and President Obama, Planned Parenthood of California now takes in more than $280 million per year. Based upon their 2012 IRS filings, here is the income of the largest California Planned Parenthoods:

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (San Francisco area):  $95 million

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles: $51.5 million

Planned Parenthood Pacific Southwest (San Diego): $55.9 million

Planned Parenthood San Bernardino and Orange County: $40.3 million

Planned Parenthood Shasta Diablo (northern CA): $36.7 million

All Planned Parenthoods in California maintain “Action Funds,” which allow them to
fund political campaigns, and thus, the government funds are recycled into partisan pro-
abortion politics to sustain and advance the march of the oppressors.
