The following comes from an August 15 story by Anne Hendershott in the Catholic World Report online. Hendershott taught sociology at the University of San Diego before transferring to the King’s College (NewYork City) in 2008.
One of the ways you can tell it is a national election year is left-wing Catholic political organizations re-emerge with new strategies, new funding, and sometimes even new names.
But while the organizational names may change, the players stay the same, as the agenda remains to elect Democrats who will expand the progressive economic agenda, strengthen the power of the unions, and increase women’s access to comprehensive health services—including abortion.
This con game began during the 2004 presidential campaign with the creation of the Catholic Voting Project. The founders claimed they simply wanted to “promote the US Catholic bishops’ 2003 document Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility” and “encourage a dialogue which would allow Catholics to learn how their political views matched up to those of the bishops.”
But the reality was that the Catholic Voting Project was always a front for electing pro-choice Democrats.
After Senator John Kerry lost his presidential bid, Chris Korzen, one of the leaders of the Catholic Voting Project, blamed the defeat on Kerry’s messaging problems about abortion. A master at sophistry and community organizing (formerly an organizer for SEIU) Korzen realized that the cover had been blown on the Voting Project and disbanded—but kept the same agenda and leadership—reconstituting the Catholic Voting Project under the new name, Catholics United, a 501C-4. That same year Korzen also teamed up with left-wing Catholics to help found the George Soros-subsidized Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, a 501C-3. The two organizations shared staff members (Korzen’s 2007 salary of $84,821 as executive director of Catholics United was paid out of Catholics in Alliance donations).
The role of Catholics United and Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good was to obscure the debate over abortion as much as possible by propagandizing to the effect that Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate for president, was the “real” pro-life candidate because he intended to reduce the rate of abortion through anti-poverty measures.
They even issued a research study (by Michael Bailey and Joseph Wright) which attempted to “prove” that the poverty reduction Obama was proposing would reduce abortion. But the study was so flawed it had to be dramatically revised. Bailey removed his name from the revised study—which demonstrated far less of a benefit to wealth redistribution—and, eventually, the study itself was quietly removed from the group’s website.
Still, the strategy was successful. Obama won the Catholic vote—in part because of the successful strategies used by these organizations. Soros knew that his money would be well-spent by funding a pseudo-Catholic organization. He was joined by many other major Democratic donors. During the months leading up to the 2008 presidential election, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good attracted large donors, including the late Smith Bagley, a major Democratic fundraiser who came close to matching Soros with grants from his Arca Foundation. In fact, until 2010, Bagley’s third wife, Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, a longtime Democratic Party fundraiser, was so enamored of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good that she not only funneled thousands of dollars to the organization, but also served as chair of its board. Describing herself as a “staunch Irish Catholic” Bagley has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Planned Parenthood and the anti-Catholic group People for the American Way.
No longer major players in the 2012 elections, Catholics United still issues press releases to convince progressive Catholics that conservative candidates hate the poor. But, like aging screen stars who have to become even more outrageous to get attention, their most recent press release, “Paul Ryan’s Priorities Reflect Teachings of Ayn Rand, Not Jesus Christ,” is just the most recent attempt to reclaim the Catholic moral high ground. While Korzen has moved back to Maine to establish Maine’s Majority, a political action group, James Salt has taken over at Catholics United—and has escalated the attacks on the Romney-Ryan team. Salt, like Korzen, was on the launch team for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, and did “messaging” work for Kathleen Sebelius—trying to convince voters that the pro-choice Sebelius really wanted to reduce rates of abortion even though her record of expanding abortion rights was clear.
In their most recent publicity stunt, designed to make Paul Ryan especially unwelcome when he was invited to give a speech at Georgetown University in April, Salt led Catholics United in creating and displaying a 50-foot-long banner outside the event with the slogan: “Were you there when they crucified the poor?” The group denounced Ryan’s budget as “immoral” and “an outrageous slap in the face to our nation’s poorest and most vulnerable citizens.”
Although the board of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good continues to operate (it is now led by Alfred Rotondaro, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a progressive think-tank helping to re-elect Obama), they have fewer funds and have done little beyond issuing a “voter’s guide” for 2012. The Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good Board now reads like a federation of labor leaders, as it includes Edward McElroy (former president of the American Federation of Teachers), Tom Chabolla (assistant to the president of SEIU), Tiffany Heath (national organizer for the AFL-CIO), and Steve Callahan (former AFL-CIO coordinator of labor organizing campaigns). Few take them seriously anymore.
Meanwhile, some of the staff members from Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good—along with the Soros money—have moved over to Faith in Public Life, which was founded by Jim Wallis, a progressive evangelical. John Gehring left his media-messaging position at Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good to become the senior writer and “Catholic Outreach Coordinator” for Faith in Public Life. Formerly an assistant media director at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Gehring spends most of his time now attacking the same Catholic bishops he used to work for at the USCCB. The most recent battle began when Gehring criticized the bishops for their promotion of the Fortnight for Freedom events. Claiming that the bishops’ support for the events showed “just how out-of-touch some bishops are with the real threats faced by working families,” Gehring wrote that “while most bishops don’t want to be the Republican party at prayer, their alarmist rhetoric and consistent antagonism toward the Obama administration often convey that impression…it’s a bad sign for bishops when they are essentially forced to explain that they are not a faith-based Super Pac for the Romney campaign.”
Gehring is not the only Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good employee to find himself now working at Jim Wallis’ creation, Faith in Public Life. In what appears to be a major consolidation of faith-based organizations, Faith in Public Life not only houses several of the leaders of what had been Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, it also has welcomed staff members from the organization Faithful America—founded by Tom Perriello, formerly a Catholic Democratic Congressman from the 5th District in Virginia.
Founded in 2004 as a “communications and organizing resource center dedicated to helping faith leaders reclaim the values debate in America for justice, compassion, and the common good, ” Faithful America was really created to help Perriello convince voters—including pro-life voters—to move beyond what he called “divisive abortion rhetoric.” It is important to note that nearly all of the Soros-supported progressive faith-based organizations are founded to reclaim the “common good.” And, for left-wing Catholic groups, a commitment to the common good always includes access to abortion rights
In 2009 the two organizations teamed up with Sojourners, Jim Wallis’ social justice organization, and PICO National Network, the USCCB-funded community organizing initiative, to create a “toolkit” on the health care reform debate. The toolkit reassured readers that conscience protections would remain in place—even though no such assurance was offered in any of the versions of the reform. Such protections were never intended to be in place
Like Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, Faith in Public Life has benefited greatly from the generosity of George Soros. Jim Wallis, however, does not like to be reminded of this fact. When Stephanie Block, the editor of Los Pequenos, a New Mexico-based online publication, wrote an article indicating this fact, Jason Gedeik, the Deputy Press Secretary for Sojourners and Jim Wallis, demanded that she print an online correction clarifying that Jim Wallis had nothing to do with establishing Faith in Public Life. Gedeik claimed in his letter to Block that “Faith in Public Life was actually established by John Podesta’s non-profit group Center for American Progress.” Block refused to post the online correction, citing the group’s website’s description of Wallis’ role in creating Faith in Public Life. But it did not end there. Wallis continued to deny having received funding from George Soros through the summer of 2010—even when reporters presented him with evidence that Soros has given Sojourners several hundred thousand dollars. And, not content simply to deny that he received the funds from Soros, Wallis went so far as to call anyone who stated that Soros had provided financial support a “liar.”
This denial of Soros funding continued until 2010, when World Magazine editor Marvin Olasky reported in July that “in 2004 Sojourners, Wallis’s organization, received $200,000 from billionaire George Soros, a financier of left-wing groups that push for abortion atheism, bigger government, and other causes.” Olasky claimed to have a printout of a page from the website of the Open Society Institute—of which Soros is founder, funder, and chairman—showing the grant. When asked to respond to Olasky’s allegations in an interview for the online publication Patheos, Wallis is described by the interviewer as having “exploded” in anger saying: “It’s not hyperbole or overstatement to say that Glenn Beck lies for a living. I’m sad to see Marvin Olasky doing the same thing. No, we don’t receive money from Soros.”
Wallis continued to deny that he ever received any money from Soros, claiming “our money comes from Christians who support us and who read Sojourners.” But Olasky simply asked his readers to go to the Open Society Institute website and see for themselves. When they did, the record of the grant had disappeared—and a large white space appeared where the record of the grant to Wallis had formerly appeared. Someone had scrubbed the site. Fortunately, there were PDF copies of the $200,000 Soros grant, as well as another one for $25,000 from 2006. There were also physical copies of these pages held by a large number of people who had already discovered the funding from Soros to Wallis.
Once Wallis was unable to continue denying the large grants from Soros, his communications manager released a statement insisting that “the first of the three grants, for $200,000,” came at a time when Sojourners, according to its 2003 audited financial statement, had “incurred a significant amount of net losses leading to a negative asset balance.” In other words, they had bigger financial concerns than the grant of $200,000.
Later, Wallis issued his own statement claiming that he should have declined to comment until he had “consulted with our staff on the details of our funding over the past several years.” Wallis also claimed that “the allegation concerned three grants received over 10 years from the Open Society that made up the tiniest fraction of Sojourners’ funding during that decade—so small that I had not remembered them.” Most of us would not consider the hundreds of thousands of dollars from George Soros to be a “tiny fraction” of Sojourners income—especially when Wallis himself admitted that Sojourners had a “negative balance” in 2003—the year before receiving the large cash infusion from Soros in 2004. Olasky concurs, telling a reporter for Christianity Today, “If you’re in the red and someone comes up with $200,000, especially a billionaire, you tend not to forget that.”
Soros money continues to flow into Wallis’ initiatives—and now is flowing into Faith in Public Life, the new home for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good personnel. The Big Con continues—and sadly, John Gehring, a former employee of the USCCB, is now part of that con. But it is getting much harder for progressive organizations like Catholics United or Faith in Public Life to hide their tracks now that everyone knows who they really are.

Written documentation is also provided.
Anyway you cut it, today someone would have to be blind and deaf to know that Obama hates faithful Catholics, and only surrounds himself with heretics and schismatics.
Did you see Michael’s show yesterday as he read a very funny/sad email about Fr.Nice and the nice people in the nice diocese? Everyone should watch that one too! Oh, my. You can’t keep from laughing
By your friends shall ye be known
Sadly, the leadership of the USCCB plays right into Obama and Soros’ hands. Lukewarm Catholicism is to fall into the snare of the devil. May Our Blessed Mother pray for us. +JMJ+
I was surfing the channels on the television, and the BBC had a presentation on how wonderful and charitable Soros is, and the tremendous amount of good he is doing. I remember reading some years ago on how biased against the Catholic Church the BBC was, and how liberal and immoral their coverage was in regards to Christian morality. Seeing this trash on the television, it is actually wose than what ABC,CBS AND NBC present to us daily. FOX NEWS at least is fair and balanced, even though it is far from perfect. I am grateful to several Catholic news sites so the truth can be known. Thank you for always presenting the correct Catholic point of view, especially in regards to this horrible man who is a disciple of the devil. Soros will stop at nothing in his attempt to destroy Catholic morality and Western Civilization, and unfortunately the “drive by media” stands by everything promoted by this evil man.
Amen! I didn’t realized that about the BBC and I read their news over our news because it seemed more impartial and because written on the dedication stone of the British Broadcasting bldg. is written…”This Temple of the Arts and Muses is dedicated to Almighty God by the first Governors of Broadcasting in the year 1931….It is their prayer that good seed sown may bring forth a good harvest, that all things hostile to peace or purity may be banished from this house, and that the people, inclining their ear to whatsoever things are beautiful and honest and of good report, may tread the path of wisdom and uprightness.” Someone should remind them of this. But then again, maybe not, as they’ll want to have it sanded off!! How low the mighty have fallen Father Karl?
I used to think that Obama was the “Anti Christ”, but now I think it is more likely Soros, the man behind Obama.
Everyone who tunes into this site should know that Jim Wallis is almost a regular now at the REC, now run by Archbishop Gomez formerly by Cardinal Roger Mahony. Please don’t give these men too much credit when they once in awhile do something right. You must look at the whole picture!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
I googled wallis…social justice leftist ‘evangelical’ married to a Church of England woman priest (I had to qualify that). Is that the one? What is he doing hanging out with Archbishop Gomez?
The only thing worse than a democrat is a liberal catholic.
Aren’t they just one and the same?
The most venomous serpent in the garden is the Catholic Liberal.
Population reducing methods are defied to some extent by the increasing population. Therefore, abortion, contraception, gay marriage, starvation, war and disease are not reducing the population, which continues to increase.
Would someone please tell me why George Soros is so determined to undermine the Catholic Faith. And why are the Catholic bishops so silent about this?
“Would someone please tell me why George Soros is so determined to undermine the Catholic Faith.”
>> Not undermine it. Redefine it. Offer an accommodation on matters of funding and persecution in exchange for the surrender of certain doctrines not welcome in the New World Order; i.e. abortion, contraception, same sex marriage, etc.
“And why are the Catholic bishops so silent about this?”
It’s my surmise, John, that this viperish little misanthrope is utterly corrupted by greed, malice and calumny. He’s so full of worldly vice that there is no room for goodness or mercy. He is full of corruption and I see him like Marley’s ghost, burdened down with his money bags and ambition. Anyone with the least particle of goodness would be putting their money towards feeding the hungry and spreading beauty and truth in some way (Especially when they are entering extreme old age when death is surely starting to make His presence felt?0 He hates the Church because he hates goodness, truth and beauty. His father is the Father of Lies, Lord of the Flies and Lord of the Darkness. Put away all hope all ye who enter here, his eyes seem to say.
“…this viperish little misanthrope is utterly corrupted by greed, malice and calumny.”
somethihng tells me DANA won’t be invuiting SOROS to dinner, nor to the AL SMITH dinner.
could be wrong.
“Viperish little misanthrope” is good.
George Soros is too busy having the world for dinner to bother with an invite to the Kabuki dance for wholly-owned subsidiary the Democrat Party, otherwise known as the Al Smith Dinner.
Something tells me that max and k are playing uninvited games on a Catholic website.
These times are not something to play a game about, Catherine.
newsflash, CATH — we are just as catholic as you are.
in your mind, you might think you get to make the list of who’s in and who’s out, but Someone Else is actually in charge of those decisions.
i mean GOD, in case you didn’t understand.
You have been gone for a few days. I hope you weren’t ill. I hope you had a good vacation.
Thank you for all the time you have spent trying to straighten me out. Things here have gotten kind of worldly and not religious which is my prefernce. There is only so many times you can read the same thing over and over. I know you have a zeal for pro-life and traditional marriage and a holy priesthood. I leave things in your capable hands. Go get ’em.
max, in his extreme emo liberalism, sees the Church as an ideology (“we are just as Catholic as you are”) rather than in the sense the Church has always taught and which Blessed John Paul II worked his whole life trying to convey … the Church consists of individuals, none of whom are identical to any others, and yet all of whom are busy following Christ. Liberals are incapable of seeing individuals, and make up individual personalities by means of Hollywood. Too many people do not comprehend it at all. They see themselves as no different from anyone else, and do not know that God has destined each one, each individual person to have his own name, a name known by Christ. How do you find out what your Heavenly name is?
Counterfeit Catholics, counterfeit Evangelicals…using God’s name to promote themselves and their Marxist views. Incredible. Forget spreading the Good News of salvation. That’s so yesterday. No, they want to promote the gospel of social justice. Sinful man promoting justice. Who needs the Cross of Christ, when we have social justice? And Jesus said, “…when the Son of Man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8.
75% of those “Irish Catholics’ voted 4 Obama in ’08 as I was told by a proud Irish Catholic who frequents the Irish Embassy locally. And I know of other “Irish Catholics’ who are liberals and voted for Obama. Seems this group of ppl in general tends liberal for some reason that is beyond my understanding.
The Irish-Americans are a peculiar group indeed. The reason why they continue to support the democrats is based to a large extent on their history in the new world. They still remember “No Irish need apply” signs as if it were yesterday, just as their countrymen still remember the Battle of the Boyne and the Cromwellian Platation. They joined the democrats because their oppressors were the protestant establishment and the thugs known as “the know-nothings”. Besides, there was a time when the democratic party was indeed the working man’s party and the republicans the plutocrat’s party. Admitted, this was long before the democrats became the party of corruption, abortion, same-sex marriage, and Hollywood hedonism. Why the Irish can’t see that they are hopelessly behind in their thinking baffles me no end. I once asked one of my Irish-American relatives (fouth generation!) why he still voted for the democrats. His answer: “But, we’re Irish!”…..
How do they get away with calling their groups ‘Catholic’!!!????
Enough of this.
we all have to be pastoral, we are really not sure who is a catholic and who is not you see..
Mbûkû Kanyau Mbithûka,
“By their fruits ye shall know them” Jesus Christ.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

The unfailing common denominator of the left and all its myriad associations, groupings, etc.,is its incredible propensity to LIE and OBFUSCATE, along with DISTORTING and to fabricate HALF-TRUTHS, thereby creating a MORAL FOG, and an atmosphere of not knowing where the TRUTH may possibly begin,or, conversley, where the LIES MAY END. Obviously, both Soros and Wallis are VIRTUOSOS of these techniques, and both Obama and a previous IMPEACHED president, Clinton, are PAST MASTERS of these PREVARICATING WAYS.
Now anyone who does not discern that we in the U.S. are in CRISIS MODE as we enter into the 2012 election season is in serious need of some STRONG DOSES of LOGIC & COMMON SENSE.GOD BLESS ALL—MARKRITE
Why do Bishops not just excommunicate ask these people to stay out of the church until they repent?
Because the bishops themselves no longer enjoy unity in Faith.
Well, here we have it folks, in plain sight, k’s redefining and personal interpretation of Holy Scripture and subsequently of Church dogma and doctrine.
What? I just said “Psalm 2.” Did you read it? Did you not find it applicable to this situation? Are you a supporter of Soros?
K, you have such cogent thoughts, but you just need to bring your reader along. I love Psalm 2: Why do the heathen rage, and why do the people imagine a vain thing? That is, why does mere man think he can tell Almighty God what to do? Just before in Psalm 1, presumably David is talking about how great it is to be in the service of God. Then something must have happened, because we get Psalm 2. And the rebellion against the Holy One of Israel continues to this day. Solomon was right, there is truly nothing new under the son. But woe to wayward pastors and priests (pharisees and hypocrites) who do not teach the flock as they should, especially for worldly gain.
Nightingale, “The kings of the earth rise up, and the princes conspire together against the Lord and his anointed; “Let us break their fetters and cast their bonds from us.” He who is throned in Heaven laughs; the Lord derides them. Then in anger he speaks to them; he terrifies them in his wrath. “I myself have set up my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” Psalm 2 “Happy the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked nor walks in the way of sinners not sits in the company of the insolent, But delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.” Psalm 1
“Now, open your wallets to page ten” (max 2).
Yes, k. There is a Psalm 2.
Mr. DeLano, pray it. Also Psalm 9. Read Numbers 10:35. Pray Psalm 68. Have faith.
I’m sure Rick has many prayers he enjoys and I personally can attest to his having much faith as to what he contributes here. k, that’s rather presumptuous to tell someone to have faith, isn’t it? This isn’t a spitting contest. You can’t measure someone’s relationship with God. I’m probably just misinterpreting what you’re saying. I can’t always follow your reasoning k. Sorry. I certainly can attest to the frustration of having what I’ve written misunderstood. (a tear wells in my eye, I sigh, fade out)
Yeah, my jaw is on the floor!
Question to administrators @ CALCATH: WHAT’S UP WITH YOUR ATTACKS ON IST AMENDMENT FREE SPEECH? IN THE POST @ 3:40 P.M., I PUT IN A COMMENT ABOUT THE NOTORIOUS DOUG KMIEC, (AND EVERYONE KNOWS WHY I USED THE TERM ‘NOTORIOUS’ ABOUT HIM) AND YOU CHOSE TO EDIT IT OUT! I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’D BE DEFENDING HIM, FOR THIS PRO-LIFE ‘WORTHY’ CHOSE TO ALLIE HIMSELF WITH ANOTHER ‘WORTHY’, THE NOTORIOUS OBAMA, THE ARGUABLY MOST PRO-ABORT POLITICIAN IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA, IN 2008; WHAT GIVES? I EXPECT A COHERENT AND LOGICAL RESPONSE, PLEASE. AND SO I SALUTE CALCATH DAILY FOR GIVING US THIS STORY, BUT I DEFINITELY DISAGREE VEHEMENTLY WITH YOUR DECISION TO QUASH MY FREE SPEECH. GOD BLESS ALL, MARKRITE
The editor replies: Your comment was edited for length because it exceeded the 1500-character limit specified in our comments policy.
Mark, don’t be upset. You always have good replies and I enjoy your input.
I’ve had lots of posts go unpublished. It’s okay…it gives me time to reflect and then edit what I wrote, or I decide it didn’t need to be said anyway. Just cut down your post so we can share what you wrote, and maybe if you’re realllllly lucky, JLS will criticize and dissect it to a faretheewell and you’ll know you must have said something really relevant. haha
Why is it that I often get a message from the monitors of this site that I have commented too many times when I can count many others who have commented far more than I have? Are you counting double because I sign off on my comments after commenting?
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

Kenneth, it has happened to me also, and the editors are trying to find out what the problem is. It is strange; yesterday, I had been off the computer for well over an hour, and then entered one brief blog, and got that pop up.
I can’t understand how mankind can continue this way. Why are we seeing way too many attacks on the faith, on the natural law? I hate sin! Please keep my mum in your prayers, my mum was depressed for a week and I couldn’t understand why but today she poured her eye’s out and told us that her cat was raped. She has an outside cat, the cat is still young, it usually stays in her garden, about over a week ago it went missing, finally it returned and it was struggling to get to her front door, my mum examined the cat discovered that he was raped/violated and I can’t go in details here but it was a very tragic thing. Please don’t tell me that the monster that raped this poor animal was born that way because I will not take it anymore….
The Church held back, for a long time, the very worst of the demonic influences upon civilization and persons.
Something has changed.
It will get much worse.
Oh, Abeca that is absolutely horrifying. I’m so sorry, and I will definitely keep your mum in my prayers! Poor little cat. Will she be all right? That is utterly unbelievable! If my sister heard of that she’d fly out to San Diego and raise a dust!! She’s always taking in strays and is so kind to animals. I have a dear little cat Gracie, who was a straggly little waif when I found her in the woods left to die. I agree with Rick, Abeca. I truly feel that it’s the end times, at least for this country. We’ve simply turned a corner in the last 3 years under the dark lord and I don’t even recognize this country anymore. THe very idea that an American president would be promoting same-sex so-called marriage is so shocking and unacceptable that I can’t even speak of it. He’s an aberration…a pock seeping with Black Death. But what is truly shocking is he is getting a 50% approval rating!! He might be re-elected! If that doesn’t say something about the state of this country nothing will. And there’s a Cardinal of our beloved Church inviting him to dinner!
Abeca, you should have reported that to the police immediately, so they would have a report.
Abeca, hopefully your mother has taken the cat to the veterinarian. The police should be notified. About fifteen years ago while jogging with one of my dogs near here in a little wilderness area, I discovered the front half of a young black cat. It had been sliced in two right behind the shoulders. The other half was not found. Also it was not even yet in rigor mortis. On the ground in the small clearing was a condom pack. Dog and I jogged back home and brought a neighbor out there to witness it … What I regret is not calling the sheriff dept to come and investigate. It was an obvious ritual event. Also, a few years ago a woman rancher in the region hid in her horse barn one night with her shotgun because she knew something was wrong, and caught a man who came in and attempted to rape her horse. Sheriff arrested him.
Professor Hendershott has done an excellent job retracing the dismal story of how George Soros, one of the most evil men since Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, bought the Catholic Vote with the silent acquiescence of our bishops. The liberal Catholic front groups have not disappeared, they have merely regrouped under new names. Unfortunately, in many liberal dioceses, they are as active and as subversive and dangerous as ever.
In that this is obvious to many people, who might otherwise be interested in Catholicism, it has made a laughingstock, although a pained one, of the Church. Many seek salvation but are not going to subject themselves to corrupt clergy, who only do the opposite of the Will of God.
With a stretch of the imagination, this reminds me of today’s (13th Sunday after Pentecost) Gospel reading where our Lord says we cannot serve two masters. You of course remember His Holy Words. Similarily a person cannot be a liberal or a progressive and a catholic all at the same time. We can’t follow Christ and satan (aka beezelbub) at the same time. We will either love one and despise the other. Those who believe one can be a liberal or progressive and a catholic simultaneously, do not know the Catholic faith, but they do believe in an oxymoron. There cannot be such a thing as a liberal catholic or progressive catholic. They truly aren’t catholic at all! Therefore if their first claim to fame is a liberal or a progressive, than they are not truly catholic. Or if they are truly catholic, they won’t be a liberal or a progressive. Those who believe in liberal and progressive concepts are outside of the catholic church because those conepts they adhere to are anti-catholic. For examples: 1) prolife is catholic, prodeath (aka prochoice) is liberal and progressive, against God’s will, 2) chastity until marriage is catholic, whereas fornicattion and adultry are anti-catholic, and 3) heterosexuality is God’s natural, but homosexuality is against God’s Holy Will, just read St Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, it is very clear where he is speaking out against homosexuality. Pray the rosary for the conversion of lost souls back to the Roman Catholic faith.
uh, TOM B., the mass yesterday was the 21st sunday in ordinary time, and the gospel was john 6:60-69
it’s part of the famous bread of life discourse we have been hearing all summer.
what reaidings are you all using?
Yes Rick something has changed. Can you put your finger on it? Do you think it is anything related to the loss of the faith in tens of millions of catholics over the last 40+ years? Many Roman Cathlics think there is a direct connection. OBTW, have you ever heard of Cardinal Siri?
Tom B. you are partially correct. One is either a Catholic or not. Liberal, Progressive, Conservative, Right or Left Wing, etc. are political terms. If one is Catholic, one believes in the teachings of God through the inspired word of the Bible and the teachings of the Magisterium. In that case, one knows that Catholics should give what they have to the poor, that people should receive according to their needs, that we should feed the poor, provide work for people, treat others with justice, worship in community on Sundays, etc. None of these things are left or right, conservative or liberal. They are just Catholic teachings.
Once again Bob one is wrong, people like Bob think we should give our $$ to government so it may dispense it to the poor this is his idea of social justice.. receive according to their need? really his is hardly a Catholic notion it is purely a Marxist one.
