The following comes from an August 22 Traditional Latin Mass Community of Saint Mary Magdalen blog post:
A Solemn High Mass will be offered by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter at the Cathedral at 555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles on October 1st, Saturday, at 8:00 a.m. This Mass is part of the Annual Conference of the Society for Catholic Liturgy. Read more. This will be the first time the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
This Mass enjoys a major placement within the conference. Father Masutti FSSP will be the celebrant, Father Fryar FSSP will be the deacon and preach. Father Austin FSSP will be the subdeacon. The FSSP.LA choir will be singing.
Very nice! I would love it, if the FSSP would establish a church in the San Francisco Bay Area, someday!
At San Francisco you have Fr. Illo as Pastor at Star of the Sea Parish. Doubtful anyone could beat this holy man.
Gratias, I would be interested to join an all-Latin Mass parish– my favorite!
This sort of thing does not really impress. It smacks of elitism (“I am a better Catholic than you because, hey, I pray in Latin; I am not ‘vulgar’); it smacks of contempt for the Second Vatican Council; it smacks of parochialism (in a negative way as a way of isolating oneself in a bubble); it really smacks of contempt for the millions of Catholics who prefer to pray in the language they commonly use. I would think that a responsible spiritual director who knows the tendency of his directee to pour contempt at today’s bishops, the Pope, V2, would advice said directee TO AVOID GOING TO AN EXCLUSIVE TLM CHURCH as a way of humility and as a way of cultivating fraternal charity. This is ONE CHURCH, not two.
jon, looking for opportunities to attack strangers who write posts, whom you will never know, accusing them of all sorts of crazy things– is IMMATURE!! You really have no concept of the historical use of the term “vulgar, common tongue!” It was used centuries ago, mainly by intellectuals, monks consecrated to God– to indicate a transition from worldly, profane life, to the realms of the Sacred, in the Church! At Baptism, one is supposed to give up the worldly life, crossing over to the Christian life, with Christ, holy and pure! I will continue..
I will continue, with my first post, above. So, as the new religion, Christianity, was the official, state religion, of Rome, the use of the Latin tongue for sacred, religious purposes, developed into Church Latin, which was used throughout the centuries, as an official religious language. Baptized Christians crossed over the threshold, from the barbaric, vulgar, secular, pagan world– into the realms of Christ, holy and pure. This was not “elitism,” it was a simple, big difference, between Christians and the rough, rude, vulgar, secular, pagan world, devoid of Christ!! I will continue..
So, Latin was also the language of intellectual monks, who wrote books, and kept the flame of knowledge alive, after the Fall of Rome. When the first university was established in Paris, in the medieval era– the students were taught in the Latin language. They read books written in Latin. Thus, the name “Latin Quarter,” for the district in Paris, with this historic university!! Church Latin is still considered as the official language, of our Church. All formal Vatican documents are written in Latin. I will continue…
So, jon, there is no use, attacking fellow Catholics, for their religious preferences! Better to just be Christ-like, and accept people, and don’t be rude to them! Many people love the beautiful old Latin Tridentine Mass! I have always loved it from the day I was born– and always will! Others, however, are entitled, like yourself– to the Mass of their choice! The Novus Ordo is translated into all the world’s languages, with many local customs! And we have unusual Masses, too, such as the Charismatic Mass. Something for everyone! The Pope also likes it that way! And why not YOU?
jon, I will say one final word. Church Latin, for religious purposes, is not unusual. The Jews had sacred uses of their Hebrew language, for Temple worship. There is a big difference between the vulgar, common, secular life, of the “fallen” world, which we have inherited, from Adam and Eve– and the pure, beautiful, SACRED world of God, in the Church, with Christ truly present, in the Blessed Sacrament! Before Vatican II, the Church clearly emphasized leaving the secular world, for God, with the goal of Eternal Life, in Heaven! And Church Latin, was for religious worship, jon!
P.S. Some people night criticize YOU, jon, for belonging to an “exclusive religion,” the Catholic Church– with its “exclusive Pope,” and “elitist” false “Sacraments,” of a false Jewish “Messiah,” Who was an “abysmal failure,” executed correctly for “treason against Caesar”– and falsely calling Himself the “Son of God,” with phony “miracles” easily and pragmatically explained— and phony promises of an afterlife, in “Heaven!” Plus– Early Christians did not allow Catechumens to remain for the holiest part of their Mass, the Eucharistic Rite– with a phony “miracle,” Transubstantiation!
jon, you really do owe me– a fellow Catholic!– a big apology, for your vicious attacks! Many priests today, try to get their parishioners to return to the Sacrament of Confession, as this Sacrament was nearly abandoned, after Vatican II! And many sadly do not want any spiritual direction— as was once popular, prior to the Council. Instead– many post-Conciliar Catholics reject our Church, on teachings of Faith and Morals! A very tragic situation! You owe me a big apology, jon, for your vicious attacks!
Faith is a gift. My mother used to say that, and it is true! When one kneels devoutly at the Communion Rail, to receive Our Lord on the tongue (as was done prior to Vatican II, and is still practiced, at Tridentine Latin Masses) — it is a great gift, to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion, and a great gift, to receive all of His magnificent graces, in this most wondrous Sacrament!! One can memorize the Catechism, and intellectually discuss it, point-by-point– yet still not have the precious gift of Faith! One is very blessed, to receive this rare and precious gift, from God!
Just another in the endless string of examples of jon’s irrational and gratuitous hostility vs. the TLM and trad-oriented Catholics. It is well-nigh pathological.
Well the particular error in Campion’s words is that I DO GO TO THE TLM. In fact I attend on a REGULAR basis! Most recently YESTERDAY for the 3rd class feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. Wrong again, Campion. I am traditional in the most authentic meaning of the word, for I do not go about promoting and excusing dissent and disobedience against the Church hierarchy and its documents including Vatican II.
I’m sorry but I am not impressed by you. Hate does not impress. Just being frank here. No offense intended.
When one attends the beautiful old Latin Mass, one usually sees CONSERVATIVE, ELDERLY CATHOLICS, who have always loved our Church’s sacred traditions, and the Latin Mass! Many are ill or have inflammation (such as my mom and myself), and may use canes, or walkers– or wheelchairs. Some are hard-of-hearing, and some (like my mom and myself) have serious vision problems. They are usually well-dressed, well-groomed, well-mannered, respectful, reverent, prayerful, and quiet, in church. Why attack such nice, elderly Catholics?? They all would certainly treat YOU nicely!
P.S. My 87-year-old mother deserves RESPECT!! She got married at age 17, to her sweetheart, my dad, and they were married happily, for 68 years, until he died of a serious illness! She is now a widow, and I help care for her, along with my younger sister, who is in her mid-60’s, and just had a birthday! She, too, is a widow, after four decades of a happy marriage– as her beloved husband also died of a serious illness! Such good souls need prayers, love, and respect, by fellow Catholics, in the Church!
Linda Maria, God bless your 87 year old mother and your sister. I respect them both and I am certainly impressed that your wonderful parents raised children who defend the fullness of truth instead of defending hateful and heinous serial killers. Intrinsically disordered logic usually showcases itself in behavior or words, especially in the case of this glaring example of extremely misplaced priorities. Please give your mother and your sister a big hug and hello from her many new fans at CCD.
God bless you, Catherine! Thanks so much for your wonderful post!
I might just have to attend this Mass. I don’t care much for the architecture of this cathedral. There are far more beautiful Catholic cathedrals in this world. Many do a far better job of putting themselves on display.
However no cathedral or church I have ever been in does a better job of putting the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on display and in tight focus. It’s not a flat-floored bowling lane shaped structure that requires a thick seat cushion and a pair of strong binoculars to see what’s going on atop the altar of sacrifice.
It doesn’t have a tiny altar (mensa) causing clergy to crush together. It doesn’t have poor acoustics, poor audio or anything less than a top-notch pipe organ.
As lamentable at the design is,…
As lamentable at the design is, the architect got a number of things right. All the things that make Jesus Christ and His Sacrifice to His Father for our sins the absolute focus of this edifice.
I’m looking forward to the Mass.
Agree with the critique of the architecture (variously described as the “Yellow Armadillo” or “the box that the Kodak Center came in”). But one other thing they did get right, in the engineering department, is a state-of-the-art seismic isolation system. When L.A. is next rocked by a major earthquake, the cathedral should suffer minimal if any damage, and can be used as a shelter or coordination facility for emergency response.
Greg, there is an old Dutch hymn called “What is this Place.” In essence, the words say that any church is just a building, until Christ and the people enter it. It is not the architecture that makes it a Catholic church. It is the Eucharist and the community of faithful prayers. Our focus should not be on the beautiful stained glass windows, the pretty art work, the kneelers, or how people are dressed or the soaring ceilings. Our focus should be on the altar! That is where the Eucharist is, where Christ comes to us, from whence we commune. The rest is art; usually good, sometimes great. It is in the community of faithful at Eucharist that we become more Catholic.
Bob One, a church building is HOLY! Its design should not be WORLDLY– it should be SACRED!! A SACRED building, called a “church,” in which either hundreds of Catholics come, to worship God, for Holy Mass, and other Sacraments– or even just one poor, lonely person, to come and pray for a loved one, or for a specific need. The Blessed Sacrament is located in our churches– unlike Protestant churches! I will continue…
I will continue, with my above post. The Bible relates the specific instructions, for building a Jewish temple or synagogue, including their holy Temple, in Jerusalem. The Vatican used to have specific requirements, for building a Catholic church— before the Council. Artisans and builders in centuries long before the Council, used to build local churches and cathedrals in Europe, and worldwide, with beautiful sacred art and architecture, dedicated to the glory of God!A beautiful, inspiring Catholic church, is a very fitting place to pray, and for a priest to offer Holy Mass, and perform all the Sacraments!
Bob One– no one likes to go to a church, for personal prayer, or for Mass— that is clearly reflecting the profane tastes of the Godless modern world, and that does not honor Christ, refusing beautiful artwork, dedicated to the glory of God! It is especially PAINFUL, for a bride and groom, to make their wedding plans– in an UGLY MODERN CHURCH!!! A wedding is only ONCE in a lifetime! And you have those photos and memories– FOREVER!! Many devout artists in former ages, refused to sign their names to their beautiful works– they desired to receive no recognition– they gave their very best, all for love of Him!
Bob One, most Protestants rejected religious artistic ornamentation for their churches, favoring plain styles of churches– and didn’t want anything that resembled Catholic religious artwork. They also rejected our belief in the Sacraments, and in the Real Presence of Christ, in the Eucharist. For them, no church contained the Living Presence of Christ! It is always very nice, to find a loving community of Christ-like Catholics, to be a part of– either a nice parish church, for laymen and their families– or a lovely, Christ-like convent or monastery– for monks and nuns! But our primary relationship, is always with God, regardless!
Latin was the language of the Caesar’s —the oppressors.
Ray of Light, Latin is also the HOLY LANGUAGE, of our Church! The vernacular languages (which didn’t evolve in Europe, until centuries later) were always considered “languages of the street”– too worldly, too profane, for worship of God! The old Tridentine Latin Mass is very beautiful! You might like it! Too bad they built this ugly, modern cathedral, however– not really suited to religious purposes– especially, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! Maybe someday, in a better era, the Archdiocese will have better leadership, and decide to once again build a beautiful and inspiring Catholic cathedral!
and English was the language of oppression for Catholics in Elizabethan England.
:) :(
RoL, Kill joy huh? I look at it this way……….
And GOD took the LATIN & made it good thru His Holy Catholic Church!
Blessed be God forever…….
Fr. Fryar is an outstanding man and the FSSP ( the “official” alternative to the SSPX) are doing outstanding work: but as far as we know, this is a “one-time event” at the hideous Cathedral.
There are many good parish members who devotedly attend daily N.O. Mass there: but it was designed, as anyone knows who has been to it, with an aggressive Mahony-esque desire to break with the past of Catholic tradition. It is actually built into the architecture itself, taking inspiration, in part, from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL.
https://www.bluffton.edu/homepages/facstaff/sullivanm/unity/whole.jpg
Also, those in the southland know well of “Fr.” Richard S. Vosko, who was a principal consultant in its…
“Vosko, who says he gets his design ideas from Edward A. Sovik, author of the Lutheran tome, “Architecture for Worship”—a book in which Sovik says that it is his intention to ‘finish where the reformation Protestants left off 400 years ago’—continues to have some success in building Catholic churches that look like upscale libraries or nursing homes. ” -Ib Jensen& Tom Nickels, “How Catholic Church Architecture is Losing its Identity,” 6/4/2010, The Bulletin.
“but it was designed, as anyone knows who has been to it, with an aggressive Mahony-esque desire to break with the past of Catholic tradition.”
George in LA, Fr. Fryar is an outstanding man and most charitable priest. What happened to you? How Mahony-esque of you, to display your own aggression when “officially” slipping in a mean divisive dig to our fellow Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ. That wasn’t kind or necessary. …And to think that you tried to get away with it by mixing it in with all of the unwanted detail about this very sterile structure, but your comment was designed, as anyone knows, who has been to it. And all that, for a one time event. Blessed, are the peace makers!
Cardinal Mahoney is a near-heretical liberal, of the most diabolical kind, falsely teaching and mis-representing the Catholic Faith, for decades! He also is a dangerous criminal, who lied and covered up many, many evil cases of child sex molestation! He should have been behind bars, for his evils! He also lied about the teaching of our Catholic Faith, on the Eucharist, and destroyed Mother Angelica’s life over it, too!
Amen ! well said.
You must be reminded LMaria and others of what is in Canon Law 1373: “A person who publicly incites among subjects animosities or hatred against the Apostolic See or an ordinary because of some act of power or ecclesiastical ministry or provokes subjects to disobey them is to be punished by an interdict or other just penalties.”
Calling Mahoney “near-heretical,” “diabolical,” “criminal,” who “misrepresented the Catholic faith” are HOSTILE words that incite unjust animosity against an ordinary (ie, a bishop), LMaria. You may not like him, but is calling someone—especially an anointed minister of Our Lord whom many in LA do respect—Christian? Is this the behavior of a traditional, respectful, humble Catholic?
LM, AMEN! So true. I think the pressure from C. Mahoney may have contributed to dear Mother Angelica’s fragile health, which she endured in God’s love, but did not deserve. She is a future Saint. Miss her but am grateful for EWTN as I can still tune in and see her & listen to her wisdom as they replay her shows/talks. Praise be to God.
Jon , mahoney brought this upon himself, his actions and words have damaged the faith and brought scandal to the church. By his actions ,the cost has been in treasure and reputation that all Catholics must deal with . How much did this cost the diocese in money that could have been used elsewhere ? . More important is the lack of pastoral care in dealing with the abused and the families . If someone had set out to do more damage to the archdiocese from the outside it could not have been worse !. Hostile and unjust , no honest and direct , unjust animosity , again no, look at his behaviour during his tenurue, was he honest and compassionate to the injured ? no ! . The church DESERVES honest and decent shepherds , that we can all point…
contd
The church DESERVES honest and decent shepherds , that we can all point to and say model yourself on this man’s character , to the religious and laity he should be the public example of the faith. Looking forward to your reply , in his handling of the scandals did mahoney violate any canon law ?.
You cannot compound wrongdoing with wrongdoing of YOUR OWN! It is still a violation of Canon 1373 to incite animosity (and it’s not just Mahony who has been the target of folks like LMaria here) against the Holy See and any bishop–whether or not said bishop has done wrong. You cannot excuse your violation of the law by citing other people’s violation. What kind of morality is that?? The proper response of a faithful Catholic here vis-a-vis a cleric is not to spew hostile words like “criminal” or “diabolical” but to pray for that person, and to keep your mouth shut if you have nothing positive to say.
jon– even little preschoolers can tell a criminal from a saint! You need to wake up and become an HONEST MAN!! A child sex predator dressed up in the false clothes of a priest– is the veritable WOLF IN SHEEP’S LOTHING, which Christ foretold! And the “Cardinal” (Mahoney) who evilly LIED and “PROTECTED” these dangerous clergy child sex predators from the law– is truly a SATANIC MAN!! Once, a long time ago, I quietly mentioned to him at a social gathering– “so, I guess you killed Mother Angelica, eh? Or saw to it, that she was good as dead.” He didn’t reply. I then left.
So I suppose all your talk about hostility and making threats are not the religion of Christ is just hypocrisy on your part, eh LMaria. You can be hostile to others, but others can’t, even though they, namely men, aren’t in fact so. You’ve just been caught in an act of hypocrisy. Shameful.
One must always watch out, for the needs of innocent little children– because you might be fatally deceived! Shortly after the evil child sex abuse scandals broke, some time ago– a bishop’s secretary, not far from where I live– was crying, because a priest who was a good friend of the bishop’s, who often visited her home and family– had been caught, molesting her little school-age boy! The little boy was terrified, and his mother tried to help him. Police were called immediately. We need REAL MEN in our Church, who will protect their wives and children! No “jons,” who protect EVIL CRIMINALS!!
“One must always watch out, for the needs of innocent little children– because you might be fatally deceived! ”
Thank you, Linda Maria! Yes, Linda Maria, we need REAL CATHOLIC PRIESTS to especially protect our little children. Mothers and fathers place their trust in them when they send their children into the confessional. This is no time for silence when we see what just happened in Stockton. Those, is authority, cannot pretend that they did not know about this very sick predator, when children going to confession still receive bad guidance. A wolf protects other wolves.
Very interesting. I have never been to the cathedral, but I think there are no kneelers.. There will be a lot of sore knees.
I’ve been there. There are knee lets.
You’re assumption is wrong. There are kneelers.
It’s exciting to know that the Latin Mass is coming to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
But, what is sad is that those who are into the Latin Mass are extremely rude, assumptive, and uncharitable.
Maybe the Cathedral will do better without the Latin Mass, if those who are ” into it” are so unkind.
In charity, you are incorrect in the extreme ! you will find such people anywhere , in the NO churches I have seen such disrespect in dress and behaviour from what appear to be mature adults who should know better, speaking loudy and at inappropriate times is rude .The Latin Mass with its reverence may be by the misinformed to be in the negative , we believe we are at the foot of the cross during mass , simple maners and decency are not unreasonable . The Latin Mass community I have found to be welcoming and eager to have new visitors that, will pray God become members of that community. God Bless the Latin Mass community in this archdiocese it is badly needed.
Best gig would be to sell veils on the plaza!
In the beauty of the mass you could pretend the ugly building isn’t there…
You really feel so proud about yourself, don’t you. Wise cracking about veils and ugly buldings. How about trying on a veil of humility for a change?
And well, what an example of charity the Anonymous is, too! Leading by example. Bitterly.
The beautiful TLM & the FSSP together @ Our Lady of the Angels.
Praise be to God! Hope for California yet…….
Why the architecture matters is because “form follows function.” Architectural design has a hidden yet powerful influence on worship, of which people are often unconscious.
This cathedral was designed by its architect, Moneo, like Wright’s Unity Temple, to urge people to turn their back on the past (Wright specifically wrote so, and Unity Temple is “the” most influential modern church design of the last century )—on their tradition, on their Faith inheritance.
When you enter through the main Temple St entry, one begins by passing down a long, dark side nave, until one approaches the lovely rich Spanish-mission high-altar and reredos of the old San Fernando seminary chapel — but then, you are forced to turn away and to…
..and to the right, twice at two successive 90-degree angles, signifying Moneo’s theme of “Journey “, to turn one’s back on the past, until one is turning one’s back on the Latin high altar, and finally turning into the strange, empty, cavernous [aircraft-hangar] space of the new “worship area” and—-effectively—entering a new reality.
Architects spend inordinate amount of time designing meaning and message into their form. The message of this building is: “forsake your past, come here into our new reality.” Sounds intriguing—but is it from the Holy Spirit? Or the alien zeitgeist of some other spiritual force?
This church is exactly what the apostate modernists had in mind as a reflection of the new religion created by Vatican II.
I’m sorry what did Matt The Heretic say?
What is this monstrosity again? A new Planned Parenthood Building competing with the one in Miramar?
Archbishop Jose Gomez has taken a valiant decision by allowing the Latin Mass into his Cathedral. Cardinal Roger, builder of Taj Mahony, still lurks in Hollywood and likely retains enough influence in the Vatican to deny His Excellency Gomes the red hat. This is an important gesture, expressing that the Latin Mass is part of the Church and we must all stick together through these difficult times. I intend to attend and be counted. Hopefully I can get up that early on a Saturday.
Mahony lives in North Hollywood in the San Fernando Valley. That’s many miles away from Hollywood.
And think of all of the people who will be exposed to the TRUE MASS OF ALL TIMES!!! Most who will attend will never have even been to one before, this is a great opportunity to show people the Holy Mass and then start asking their priests for it in their own parishes.
I hope the F.S.S.P. will do their magic and turn the ugly interior into a lovely altar of sacrifice with six candlesticks, central crucifix, and kneelers.
Ray Ray Ray, do you have to malign the OFFICIAL language of the Church?? By the way being that Christ lived in Judea he most DEFIANTLY spoke Latin the lingua-franca of the Roman Empire at the time, besides Aramaic. Thats just the problem, Novus Ordonarians don’t even know their history and the Official language of The Holy Roman Catholic Church.
So many NASTY comments about the TLM here, people don’t you understand this was the OF prior to the Second Vatican Council?????? My Anglo-Catholic friends are just the opposite of the TLM haters here, they love the TLM, one reason is the Anglo-Catholic Mass is almost identical the TLM. It has Latin, incense, Gregorian chant, kneeling, genuflecting, altar boys only, stunning Roman and Gothic vestments, communion on the tongue, the Anglo-Catholic Mass is more Catholic and Roman than the Novus Ordo.
Nice to have this freedom. BUT what about the future? We have imported in ‘religions’ that are ANTI our American Constitutional Rights? SEE the BAD NEWS: HC’s plan to irreversible damage our country by allowing 1 million muslims in her first term! Read this & weep: https://www.breitbart.com/2016-presidential-race/2016/08/26/immigration-expert-u-s-resettle-nearly-one-million-muslim-migrants-one-term-clinton-presidency/ As we now have seen, assimilation to these folks is: Infidels (Christians) converting to their religion (or death) & American constitutional law, which they do not recognize, converting to Sharia law. VOTE HC & her friends OUT NOW or say ‘goodbye’ to our religious way of life for us & our offspring forever. May God…
It’s very sad to see people talk about “TLM” and “NO” “parishes.” That’s extremely divisive talk.
Sad to say, as someone else mentioned above, EF Masses are often dominated by individuals who are “extremely rude, assumptive, and uncharitable.” That needs to change or the EF Mass will indeed die.
Matthew, the TLM can never die sir, you may want that to happen but it will not, it has survived Vatican II and is returning stronger than ever! We are not rude we are focused on the Holy Mass and not “each other” as in MOST not all Novus Ordo parishes. Whilst you may want altar girls, clowns, hand holding, kiss of peace, guitars, drums, felt banners, communion in the hand, lay lectors, dancing girls, protestant hymns, we prefer:
Communion on the tongue, altar boys only, incense, kneeling, genuflecting, silence, Gregorian chant, Mozart, Palestrina, Latin, proper attire, Gothic and Roman vestments, lace, birettas, organ, communion rails, you see you were once what we are, we did not change the Church changed.
Janek, you are absolutely correct: the church changed and you didn’t. But, that is ok, you can still attend the EF Mass when you want and no one carps at you. I think that it would be nice if you didn’t carp at those who attend the NO, the regular Mass of the Church, said world wide every day, from the poorest parish to St. Peter’s in Rome. Let’s be real while we are at it, as well. 99.999% of Catholics wouldn’t know what you meant by EF, or TLM, etc. They have never heard of it, sop the don’t hate people who attend it because they don’t know about it. If you are under fifty years old, the Mass has always been the NO. That IS the Mass of the Church universal.
Today, one of the high solemnities in the Church calender, the Beheading of S. John the Baptist, also inaugurates the novena for the Nativity of the Bl. Virgin Mary, Sept. 8th. The Nativity of the Virgin closely parallels the Advent and Christmas Season and the Nativity of Our Lord, with a solemn octave dating back (Dom. Gaspar Lefebvre says) to the 600’s (as does also the finding of the head of John the Baptist and its translation on this day).
For those so inclined there is a set of novena prayers for the coming feast of the Nativity of the Virgin, at http://www.dailycatholic.org, which can be said with or without the Rosary.
Today, 9/1, is one week before the solemn feast of the Nativity of Our Lady, Sept. 8th, a feast which presages the Nativity of Our Lord, with a period of preparation before and also with a solemn octave afterwards.
Of course, Sept. 8th is integrally related to Dec 8th and Advent-Christmas season, the 9 mo. gestation period of Our Lady, conceived without sin, in St. Anne’s womb.
A number of people, sad to say, including a few priests I have heard preach, think Dec 8th is about the “Immaculate Conception” of Jesus in Mary’s womb. No. It is not that. It is this: that, without the special dispensation granted Mary, who was conceived without stain of sin, who chose to accept the motherhood of Our Lord, that the whole…
..story of salvation would have been rendered moot.
In my humble opinion, the only space in the ugly, ultra modern, monument otherwise known as the Taj Mahony is downstairs in the crypt. As you walk about the tombs of the rich and famous, you are treated to the beautiful stained glass windows brought from the beautiful, historic St. Vibiana’s Cathedral a few blocks away. By the way – the seating capacity in the hideous new building is not more than in St. Vibiana’s.
