This is not surprising and not a coincidence. There is great reason Mr. Obama announced his loyalty to the gay agenda a few weeks ago and I heard a priest on EWTN sharing his views that this is another attempt by our nation to promote a Marxist ideology. This is the effort to make a completely secularized society with no religion, to propagate the “spiritual but not religious” slogan we hear from many people today. It is clear to me that our government is trying to make a society that is tolerant to anything but truth, to anything but God and His Natural Law. We in America have fallen asleep at the wheel and it is now our time to wake up and steer towards the New Evangelization. We are at war, but we have an army filled with saints and angels on our side and the Almighty Himself to guide us along the way. God Love You.

Dixibehr-There is a major distinction between a heterosexual couple and homosexual couple. With a heterosexual couple, there is the possibility of validity, but with a homosexual couple, there is no possibility of validity for it contradicts natural law and the meaning of human sexuality. Homosexual relations is an abomination of the flesh and unnatural and the Church cannot sanction such behavior by recognizing it as a legitimate union just as no Church institution could recognize a polygamous partnership as a valid union of persons. Dixibehr, you make an interesting point! If the Church were to be consistent in applying our moral theology, we would need to be JUST as strict with heterosexual couples who violate Church law. Even heterosexual couples can engage in conduct which is against the Natural Law: masturbation, birth control, etc.; these, too, are not open to life.

Dixibehr-First, man (human beings) are not like other animals because we have rational intellect and have the ability to understand reason unlike other animals of which you refer. Second, you are referring to polygamy that did deny meaning of marriage and occurred prior to the fullness of revelation because of the hardness of heart due to the sin of man. The real fact of the matter here is that so-called same sex marriage is not marriage. The fact that something occurs does not make it natural, but rather it is a violation of nature. As a religious institution, the Catholic Church has the right to express Church Doctrine and if a person wants to be employed by the Church, their immorality cannot be forced on the Church. This is the denying of religious liberty in a religious institution. The Church is not imposing any beliefs on this woman who freely works for this hospital…it is this woman who is trying to impose her beliefs on the Church. God Love You.

here in san francisco when the government forced archbishop levada to extend “benefits” to “domestic partners,” he did something pretty smart, it seems to me—he said that the catholc church wanted to help peoople with health insurance and such so much that you could designate ANYONE to be your beneficiary: your mother, your dad, you brother, etc. it reminded me, att the time, of JESUS having to be clever with the roman coin and the question of taxes. archbishop levada became over-0generous and allowed catholic charities and such groups to broaden the scvope of coverage to people who would otherwise be left out, such as one’s elderly parents. he got a lot ogf criticism for “caving in,” but the law was the law, and a lot of good people got health care as a result of his tricky m,ove.

Given the great respect everyone here has for religious freedom, then I suppose if a new church came along that held as a tenant of faith that the catholic religion is a corruption from satan, and that consequently no catholic can give valid marriage vows. Consequently, said church refuses to grant health benefits to any employee married to a catholic, since, as a matter of faith, they see such marriages as inherently void. Would this board support the right of this church to express its deeply held faith and deny benefits to catholic spouses?

Rosie, homosexuality does indeed exist in some animal species–as any cursory net search will show. I have seen it in lab animals myself and it is well reported to occur in the field. Of course, when people of faith say that homosexuality is against the natural law, the do not mean that homosexuality does not occur in nature. Catholic theology holds that one of the ways that God communicates with man through the “nature of things”. Thus, “natural law” is determining moral rightness in light of the nature of things—and does not mean that everything that happens in the natural world with animals is presumptively moral.

MacDonald & Mrs. Z-The Church is very consistent in her teachings on human sexuality. It is a mortal sin to fornicate outside of marriage, to masturbate, to use contraception, etc. Please refer to the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2nd Edition Article 6 starting in 2331-2400. The one thing missing from Dixbehr’s argument is the possibility of the homosexual act being justified in marriage because marriage cannot exist between people of the same sex whereas if a male and female have relations, they are engaging in the marital act. No one should engage in the marital act outside of marriage, but a heterosexual couple can get married, but a homosexual couple cannot. There are 2 necessary components of marriage that both have to be present, the unitive act and procreative act of sexuality. This article is not about the Church discriminating against gay people, but our secular society trying to make the Church compromise the teachings of the Lord to satisfy the desires of a disordered and sinful behavior. Please refer to the CCC and you will see that the Church is extremely consistent in her teachings. God Love You.
