The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted a “Faith and Family” Night a month-and-a-half after their “Pride Night” featured the anti-Catholic “drag” troupe The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI).
The wholesome event was held Sunday, July 30, during the Dodgers’ home game against the Cincinnati Reds, which they lost in a 9-0 rout. It included pre- and post-game performances by contemporary Christian artist Jeremy Camp and speeches by Dodgers stars Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, and Clayton Kershaw, as well as manager Dave Roberts.
While Kershaw was critical of his team’s decision to invite SPI, Roberts expressed measured support, stating that he believes people should “be able to coexist.”
The decision for the Dodgers to hold such a promotion – their first “Faith Night” since 2019 – came in late May on the heels of the team’s re-invitation of the SPI and the ensuing backlash.
At the time, CatholicVote President Brian Burch compared this move to “putting a Band-Aid on a gaping wound” and added that it “in no way diminishes the harm and hurt caused by their plan to honor a vile anti-Catholic organization.”
While the game that accompanied the “Faith and Family” celebration was a disappointment for Dodgers fans, it was still better than the 15-0 drubbing they received the day following their “Pride Night” at the hands of the San Francisco Giants.
Another featured speaker was actor Chris Pratt, who also threw the game’s ceremonial first pitch to Kershaw. Known for his roles in Parks and Recreation and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt brought his son Jack to the event and shared photos of it on Instagram.
Pratt is one of a few outspoken Christians in Hollywood. He was recently attacked by pro-LGBTQ activists for his beliefs. In October 2020, leftist activists slammed Pratt for not attending a fundraiser for then-candidate Joe Biden. Pratt has since gone on record calling out what he terms “wackos” on both the left and right.
The actor is also the son-in-law of fellow movie star and former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-CA. Pratt is married to Schwarzenegger’s daughter, Katherine.

Unfortunately for the Dodgers the damage is done! Just ask Bud lite?
The Dodgers chose to honor an anti-Catholic hate group knowing how offensive this was to LA fans. Throwing a few crumbs our way doesn’t placate anything, the organization still stands by it’s decision. That’s all you need to know.
Chris Pratt showed a lot of wisdom for not attending a fundraiser for Joe Biden in October of 2020. Look at Biden now!
They only way the Dodgers can remedy the offense they committed against God and His Church is to fully exorcise Dodger Stadium.
The L.A. Dodgers should never have invited or allowed the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to do anything but STAY AWAY from Dodgers stadium. So sad, but it was their choice and they made it. Now we’ll STAY AWAY as long as the current owners and any of the management involved in making the dumb decision they made are still there.
The anti-woke crowd is rising!
When the game stopped being baseball, I stopped paying attention. Same for the NFL. Too bad too. Grand parents are the only ones that are able to take kids to those places anymore and none of us care.
It is sad. Money ruins everything.
Amen.
As a kid in the early 70s, it wasn’t unheard of to run into pro ball players at local stores.
They made decent money compared to most occupations (during the season), but it wasn’t outrageous.
A good ball player back then was upper-middle-class . . . not upper class.
By the end of the 70s, the game revolved around TV and the growing tsunami of ad revenue.
These days, I spend $10 to get ESPN+ for the month of August to watch little leaguers play their hearts out getting to the Little League World Series.
MLB and NFL — not one dime from me.
Except it doesn’t ruin it for the owners and the people getting the multi-million dollar contracts.
Who goes to baseball games anymore anyway?
Male: 57% | Female: 43% Ages 18-49 years old: 66% College educated: 67% Household income over $75k/year: 47%
I went last Thursday. The stadium was about 3/4 full even for a midweek day game.
They don’t want to go the way of Bud Light.
So if the Dodgers hosted the Klan, would hosting the NACCP make up for it?
