Some of Justice Antonin Scalia’s decisions I agreed with and some I disagreed with. But I’ve never once doubted the sincerity of his beliefs.
Now that he is gone from this earth, I can tell a story I’ve held inside for many years, a scene that touched me deeply and profoundly. I cannot think of him without remembering this moment.
It was a spring afternoon some years ago, and he was attending church services, sitting in a back pew, holding his prayer book in his hands. The Mass had ended and most people had gone. He was still saying prayers, alone in the back pew.
He finally got up and began to walk out. There were no reporters, nobody watching. There was only a woman who had been attending the same services. She had no idea who he was. I was a bystander, and I’m certain he didn’t know I was there.
What was a bit unusual about this woman: she had lashing sores on her face and hands. They were open sores. There was some disease, and not just physically. She behaved strangely, a troubled person that you meet in large cities and quickly walk away from. A person to avoid and certainly never touch.
For whatever reason, she walked up to Justice Scalia, who was alone. He took her hands, though they were full of sores. She leaned in to say something, and she began to cry.
He held her face next to his, and she talked beneath her tears that were now streaming down his suit. He didn’t flinch. He didn’t try to get away. He just held her while she spoke. This lasted for perhaps more than 5 minutes. He closed his eyes while she she spoke, gripping her back with his hand.
He didn’t recoil. He stood there with conviction. And love.
There were no cameras and no other onlookers besides myself, and he had no idea I was there.
Finally she was finished. What he said comforted her, and she gained composure. She pulled away, ready to go. He held her rough, sore-filled hands and had a few final words that I could not hear. He gave her some money.
And then she walked away.
And then he walked away, across the green grass, toward the Supreme Court building, alone. He was probably preparing for an afternoon of work.
I stood there in awe. What I saw that day was a humble man, a compassionate man, a man who believed in the power of personal contact. This was the action of a man of true principle and character. In that action, he sought no credit and sought no attention. He was merely doing a humane and beautiful thing.
A theme in his career was human freedom. Scalia believed in it. And why? Because he thought humanity could generate better outcomes than all the planning and all the power ever mustered by the central state. This was a principle he lived.
Lord Acton had a dictum that power tends to corrupt. What I saw that day was the rare exception. Power did not corrupt this man. He remained true to himself and true to his principles.
How unusual: a public figure in his position he never stopped being a good, even great, person.
This man was a highly inspirational figure. Not only was he a brilliant law scholar,. he was also a tremendously religious Catholic, who frequently attended the TLM. His son Paul is a priest, thanks in part to the fine religious and moral upbringing. Mr. Scalia believed that the Constitution was a ‘dead’ document in that the laws must be interpreted the way they were written, for the time they were written. Hopefully another conservative will fill his seat. May his soul rest in peace, amen.
I pray that his Mass in is the EF form, our country will continue to slide into the abyss if Obama is allowed to appoint another Liberal-Marxist judge to the court, the Republicans must block any nomination until Trump can assume the Oval Office.
I think St. Thomas More is proud of Justice Scalia. He was a credit to their profession. May he, Justice Scalia, through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Justice Scalia was a Man I Greatly Admired, and as was said of Lincoln – He now belongs to the Ages.
Still, His writings and inspiration to speak and defend the Truth, even at the risk of being reviled by those pushing evil, remain an Inspiration to All.

We were so very blessed to have Justice Scalia on our Supreme Court! I pray that his replacement will be just like him!

Now we hear that a PILLOW was found over Scalia’s face, no autopsy, he was found by the Democrat owner of the ranch where Scalia was staying, Breitbart, Michael Savage, Alex Jones, World Net Daily are all reporting FOUL PLAY involved and the cover up begins folks. John Poindexter an Obama friend and big contributor to the Democrats owned the ranch and found Scalia in bed dead.
He died in a normal fashion…GET OVER IT! These rabble Rousing statements do him a disservice. You should be ashamed!
I was feeling blue, about Justice Scalia’s untimely death, and who his replacement might be– potential disaster! Then, I saw Franklin Graham on TV, talking about his “Decision America 2016 Tour,” in which his evangelistic group is traveling to all 50 states, trying to help Americans come back to God, and to our Biblical roots. I read his Pledge on the computer, and signed it happily! It is at http://www.decisionamericatour.com! It includes pledging to live by Biblical principles, being pure, whether married or single, and standing up and voting only for candidates who support Christian Marriage and Pro- Life! Excellent!
As Abraham Lincoln said in 1859, “The people are the rightful masters of both Congresses and courts – not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert it.”
The task described by Mr. Lincoln faces us with renewed urgency today. Let’s work and pray to implement it.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Obama would anxiously select a muslim for the court, one who would support Sharia Law.
If there was foul play on the lines of murder, those that are above the law and covering up the details are fools, because God saw everything and knew everything that was going on in their minds and hearts. Just watched the funeral Mass. Kudos to CNN for just letting the service speak for itself, without a lot of talking from Wolff Blitzer. May the longest time he has ever gone without talking.
The Mass was very traditional, the music outstanding, and the sermon, by his son, was very theological. It was a great opportunity for non-Catholics to witness a holy liturgy.
