The following comes from a Feb. 11 release from the Cardinal Newman Society.
Dominican University in San Rafael will be hosting a lecture in April with primatologist Jane Goodall, a population control advocate who has openly criticized the Church’s teaching on sexuality, according to the university’s website.
On top of signing her new book Seeds of Hope: Wisdom and Wonder from the World of Plants, Goodall will also speak about “her enthusiasm for botany to give readers a deeper understanding of the world around us.” [The Daily Beast website in March, 2013 pointed out ‘troubling’ plagiarism and errors in the book.]
The environmentalist group Population Matters, which advocates birth control and abortion as a way of slowing climate change, touts Goodall’s support on their homepage, labeling her a patron.
“We support the right of women to decide whether and when to have children,” reads the website. “Effective contraception is always preferable but we believe abortion has to be available where contraception has failed.”
Population Matters endorses contraception, abortion, and ending subsidies for large families. “We need to send a clear message that large families are unsustainable,” reads the website.
Population Matters Chairman Roger Martin singled out the Catholic Church in 2010 as “inhumane,” according to the group’s website: “The Catholic Church does much good in the world, but the effects are nullified by its uniquely inhumane doctrine on, and campaign against, contraception.”
Goodall, herself, is quoted on the website saying, “It’s our population growth that underlies just about every single one of the problems that we’ve inflicted on the planet. If there were just a few of us, then the nasty things we do wouldn’t really matter and Mother Nature would take care of it — but there are so many of us.”
Goodall charged in this 2007 video that the Catholic Church stands in the way of reducing the population, saying, ”The Catholic Church makes quite a major problem when you are trying to balance between people and their environment and that’s what has to happen.”

When I was in the seminary, one of the orthodox priest professors related that he sat next to a man on a plane who was all in favor of rights for rocks. The monsignor turned to his fellow passenger and said, “I think you are silly!” To have a crack pot, who is just as silly, and unorthodox, give a speech at a Catholic university is an outrage! But, where is the voice of the bishop? The ordinary of the diocese where the college or university lies, has authority over what happens at that institution. But, let me pose this : if a priest or one of the bishops of the ‘Society of St. Pius X’ were to schedule a talk, anywhere in the diocese, you know the chancery office would not be silent. The Catholic Church is in a grave mess, and it will only get worse.
Fr. Karl, yes the Catholic Church is in a grave mess. However, whether or not things will get worse does not change the fact that she will never be conquered. Jesus’ promise :)
Tracy that is becoming excuse for us to do nothing, its time for the Church Militant to become Militant….
Canisius, you make a good point. I guess in my way of thinking, however, when I hear “it WILL only get worse”, I am left with the impression that the person saying this has given up and sees no reason to fight anymore. I responded the way I did, because I believe there always IS room for hope and as you rightly point out “it’s time for the Church Militant to become militant!
Tracy, Canisius in his past posts has said that by militant he means real physical violence, assaulting priests and homosexual persons. Please pray for him and for all of us that we seek God’s Will in how to defend His Faith. And that God will make His Will known to us. And that in knowing His Will, we will do it.
Father Karl, this is the sort of information the laity need to her from Priests about scandal. You’re exactly right, where is the Bishop ? Some would rather hear about a monkey than from an Traditional Priest from the pulpit, sad. Thank You and God Bless.
It is interesting, Father Karl, and very telling, how Catholic Tradition is targeted as the ultimate anathema. I’ve yet to hear an, ‘I wasn’t aware of what was going on,” from a Bishop with regard to the invasive threat of what the Church has always taught. Funny.
I can only ascribe this to a high alert put out regarding Catholic tradition. That and a post VII stand-down order with regard to shutting the open window that has let in the Smoke of Satan. Even Noah had to pull in the ark’s ramp so the boat wouldn’t flood. But today’s reasoning seems to be leave it open!!!! Jump off the cliff for it is told that God will send His angels so that you will not even dash your foot against a stone. Hence tossing our children off to have their faith shot up at Catholic University. Now that’s a test of faith.
Too many bishops act like those hog tying rules-of-engagement lawyers embedded in special forces teams overseas. No, no, you cannot shoot the devil unless he actually holds the gun to your head and cocks his weapon…. you must not assume he intends evil as he hides behind the rock scoping you out. He may have massacred your pals yesterday, but today, well, we might have won his heart and mind and he might not shoot you. Fast forward to a dead coalition force and all you get is, “Goodness sakes, I didn’t know. How could I know. But I followed orders, so my sin is purged, followed by promotion.”
But in the end, Our Lady will triumph. And over quite a nasty mess to be sure.
God bless.
“If a priest or one of the bishops of the ‘Society of St. Pius X’ were to schedule a talk, anywhere in the diocese, you know the chancery office would not be silent.”
“It is interesting, Father Karl, and very telling, how Catholic Tradition is targeted as the ultimate anathema.”
Thank you Father Karl and Ann Malley for speaking the truth and yes it is also true Tracy that we have Jesus’s promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against his Church.
Perhaps Jane Goodall can at least give a lecture on how to protect Jesus’s sheep from marauding poachers who continue to devour and scatter his sheep. Chimpanzee mothers and fathers guard and protect their own, they do not directly hand their own young chimps over to the lions to be easily devoured.
What is Catholic Tradition?
Jane Goodall, yes; Catechism of the Catholic Church, no.
Wow! ” Jane Goodall, yes; Catechism of the Catholic Church, no.” How profound juergensen. You really should have you own blog. I mean the sheer depth of your statement…
It’s a dichotomy. Ask your teacher to explain it to you; I have to go.
Did the leaders of the Dominican University search the world for an orthodox Catholic speaker, and were they unable to find one? That must have been the reason they chose Goodall. I think that must have been the reason (no orthodox Catholic speaker available) that, a few years ago, Notre Dame University invited Obama to speak. Remember that Obama, now persecuting the church with his Obamacare, demanded that the Crucifix be removed from the auditorium where he spoke. What are these so-called “Catholic” educators thinking?
How much longer Lord, how much longer?
Jane, the Communist Chinese already have a one child law, and in India they have mostly boys as girls go down the garbage disposal. Not so many babiesgoing round, so if you are a Catholic you can have as many as you like to compensate for the decrease in Catholics. Communism is the enemy of Western Civilization.
I am ashamed to say that I graduated from Dominican back in 1968 when it was known as Dominican College of San Rafael. Through the years they have had such a variety of anti-Catholic, and pro-abortion commencement speakers that I have lost count. I would not give one penny to Dominican until they clean up their act and begin to resemble a Catholic institution. By the Grace of God I proudly rejoice to say that I spent nearly seven years as a student at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy.
Mary P. Walker, I think some people are upset with this because Jane Goodall seems to be a woman who does not just like primates but is one who is obsessed with them. She seems to be very much like the man who became so obsessed with lions that he went to live with them in the wilds and eventually got torn apart by one. I think Goodall’s first husband divorced her because she was so obsessed by them. Also, there are other scientists who deputes the methods she used, and who think they were and are flawed. It should be all right for those studying animals to hear her lecture, but I certainly think they should take what she says “with a grain of salt”. Although there might be those who do not want to give her any money because she seems to put the primates on a level with humans, and wild animals are just that — wild animals.
I was talking about her obsession with the loser primates, of course, before someone comes on here and surely corrects me.
Oops! “lower primates” not “loser”, although some of them are to a certain extent. (Lots of laughs, although that might incense PETA.)
Correction to my seventh line: “depute” not “deputes”.
After reading this more carefully when I had more time, this woman should not be speaking at a Catholic college. Anyone can probably see one of her lectures for free on public television. The Catholic side is the one that should be represented at a Catholic college, and someone from Human Life International or Natural Family Planning would be far more suitable than this woman.
Anyone who openly attacks the Catholic Church or our Religious beliefs should not be paid a stipend to speak at a “Catholic” college or university.
These people do not speak for free.
Contact the Diocese Bishop for Dominican University in San Rafael .
This is his responsibility per Code of Canon Law.
I believe it is fine for a scientist to present lectures on their research, at a university. However– the scientist who ridicules Catholic teaching, should never be invited to speak, at a Catholic university! If there is a good reason for the scientist to present good research– then, allow the scientist to speak– but caution them, that they are ONLY to present their research work– PERIOD!! No remarks to put down our Church will be tolerated! You present your subject– and then go home! PERIOD!! That’s all! There are a great many people, of all walks of life, who are deeply bigoted towards the Catholic Church! Yet, their bigotry can be handled, with obedience to good manners and good rules!! I would never go to someone’s church, synagogue, or other place of worship, give a lecture on my field of expertise– and then, put down the very people who asked me to speak! BAD MANNERS!
As for the above comments on our church’s ignorant and tragic persecution of the Society of St. Pius X– it is a SCANDAL!! The Vatican cannot admit that the Society is correct, 100% Catholic and faithful– because of the many, many misleading lies involved in the Second Vatican Council, due to the demand to “update and modernize the Church,” to suit the MISFIT lies of the modern, Godless world! Since the Society began, when many of us were deeply heartbroken at the end of Vatican II– I daily have prayed, that our Church would someday, by the grace of God– become exactly as the vision, 100% accurate– of Archbishop Lefebre!! The only things I would say that I do agree with, in the Vatican II vision of the Church– is for the Church to practice Christian Love more deeply, and to practice ecumenism in ONLY the form, of having GOOD MANNERS towards other religions, and not being cruel to the Jews, or to anyone else, for rejecting Christ! GOOD MANNERS, to me– is what is needed, on the question of ecumenism, and leaving the rest in the hands of God, with no further statements, on non-Catholics! Be kind of everyone, love everyone in a Christ-like manner, and invite all to follow Christ! But for those who say “no,” always have a kind regard for them, with Christ’s Love in our hearts– as all of us are God’s children! I know that Archbishop Lefebre was a very kind and Christ-like prelate, and would never have agreed with the one bad bishop he ordained– Bishop Williamson– who made unChristian accusations and comments, regarding the poor Jews, of the evil Holocaust!
I am wondering where the brave roving band of Anonymous trollsters are, snap ready to cite their CCC aphorisms on schism and excommunication and disobedience to the true Catholic magisterium, thundering with their brave condemnations of traditional Catholics and their deleterious effect on the Mystical Body? I wonder how Dominican College can survive the Anonymous’ band’s furious and courageous attack in support of Catholic orthodoxy now! Rockets’ red glare, bombs bursting in air, I am sure, over San Rafael. Brave, brave brave, Sir Robin Anonymous!
Ha. As usual the loudest posters are usually those who are AWOL when it comes to the gritty street protests in front of bad once-Cath institutions (as well as Planned Parenthood clinics), AWOL in writing effective correspondence to vagrant chancery leaders, AWOL in directly but politely challenging the spokesmouths of dioceses, AWOL etc.
I come to the conclusion theirs “is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” (apologies to Shakespeare, Macbeth).
I’ve had three CCC toting trolls on the string about the former Sedevecantist nuns now under Bishop Vasa’s protection. Could be they were a little too tied up to hop on this mention of the SSPX.
God bless one and all!
This is a faithful Catholic website. You often post here with inflammatory remarks about the Catholic Church. You are the troll, dummy!
God bless you, Adam. I post here often regarding my own experience, experiences that you cannot understand as you perhaps are comfortable in your parish or perhaps are more limited in your exposure. That’s wonderful, Adam. Thank God for the graces you have received. But not all are similarly blessed.
So saying, this is a faithful Catholic website. But what is a faithful Catholic? Touting one’s own ‘faithfulness’ as opposed to another is often a silent prayer to God to be tested to one’s limits and beyond.
Much like those with young children who are shocked by the stories of those with strong willed teens or young adult children, and insist “I would never do that!!!” you will learn. All in good time.
Be well.
You try to distract from the subject which is who’s the troll. It is a Catholic website and you are calling “CCC toting” people as trolls. No, they are not the trolls. The CCC is the official teaching of the Catholic Church. It is in no way inflammatory or inappropriate for them to post things in conformity with the Catholic Church.
Are you employed by this website?
Adam, there is nothing wrong with the CCC, it’s the enforcement of it, or rather the non-compliance and consistency from the top down that is at issue. IOW: If all the kids know the rules, that’s great. But if Dad doesn’t enforce them, and openly obfuscates them himself while Mom consistently tows the line and tells the kids to tow the line, but insists they must always obey Dad, no matter what, there’s going to be a problem.
And the problem is not with the rule book. The CCC Second Edition is fine. As to the subject of this article, the crux of it is how in the world a Catholic College would honor and/or entertain someone who is so vocally anti-Catholic in her expressed beliefs? The answer is that maintaining Catholic values and/or being Catholic is not a paramount concern of the school. ‘Education’ is paramount which is why you have those with heterodox views often times preaching to impressionable Catholic kid at the height of wanting to find ‘their’ own way.
And who is in charge of allowing these Catholic colleges the privilege of calling themselves Catholic? Bishops. Not the poor laity who might know the CCC Second edition inside and out. That is the disconnect, Adam. And that’s why just quoting the CCC Second edition to folks on the ground might be all well and good, but it’s changing the hearts/minds of those with the authority to do something about it that will turn the tide.
God bless
Ann Malley,
God bless you! My goodness gracious, just look how much the status quo is always so threatened by the simple Truth. Keep up the good fight Ann Malley!
“And who is in charge of allowing these Catholic colleges the privilege of calling themselves Catholic? Bishops. Not the poor laity who might know the CCC Second edition inside and out. That is the disconnect, Adam. And that’s why just quoting the CCC Second edition to folks on the ground might be all well and good, but it’s changing the hearts/minds of those with the authority to do something about it that will turn the tide.”
God bless you too, Catherine!
How many times do you want people to write the same things over and over ?
Well Steve here it is again for your benefit.
The Diocese Bishop has the following responsibility and authority within his own Diocese. –
Code of Canon Law :
– – – Can. 808 Even if it is in fact Catholic, no university is to bear the title or name of Catholic university without the consent of competent ecclesiastical authority.
– – – Can. 810 §1. The authority competent according to the statutes has the duty to make provision so that teachers are appointed in Catholic universities who besides their scientific and pedagogical qualifications are outstanding in integrity of doctrine and probity of life and that they are removed from their function when they lack these requirements; the manner of proceeding defined in the statutes is to be observed.
– – – Can.810 §2. The conferences of bishops and diocesan bishops concerned have the duty and right of being watchful so that the principles of Catholic doctrine are observed faithfully in these same universities.
– – – Can. 812 Those who teach theological disciplines in any institutes of higher studies whatsoever must have a mandate from the competent ecclesiastical authority.
Every Catholic has a responsibility to advise the appropriate Diocese Bishop when any Catholic school is in violation of Church teaching, in order that it may be corrected.
The position outlined above is very clear, I believe,as Ann Malley and others have stated it: to hold and believe the Catholic Faith as the CCC, and for that matter the CCL, of the Catholic Church teaches, such as it is in conformity with the Denzinger Index, for example : but I have seen over and over again, that those brave, brave Anonymous CCC-quoters, when it comes to a real fight, whether it is on the streets in front of Planned Parenthood, or protesting the leaders of a bad action at a “Catholic” institution (such as, oh, let’s say, “The Vagina Monologues”), or politely but directly actually confronting the mis-directed diocese spokesmouths and even their episcopal vicars — then, when you look over your shoulder to find the support of the Anonymous crowd—-why, the brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robins are ALL GONE! :) — Like a mist! One should never expect any serious action from them other than tapping a keyboard —and attacking those to traditional “right” of them. Tally ho, Anonymous-sters!
Are you employed by the website?
Are you employed by the USCCB, Anonymous?
No. I am not employed and I do not work in a volunteer capacity for them or for anyone. Would you answer my question, please? Are you employed by California Catholic Daily? Do you work here? Even part-time?
No, Anonymous, I do not work for CCD, although I am curious as to why you would think so.
“No. I am not employed and I do not work in a volunteer capacity for them or for *anyone.* ”
Based on your history of strategic ambiguity and also your own duplicitous posts that gossiped about and undermined two faithful priests who publicly spoke up in defense of Church teaching regarding homosexuality, it sounds like you are finally admitting that you don’t work in a volunteer capacity “for anyone” which includes God. That is NOT good but in your blinded quest to silence Ann Malley you stumbled and posted your revealing slip up. “Unconscious wishes or conflicts can reveal unconscious processes” “I do not work in a volunteer capacity for them OR
for “anyone”.
Ann Malley, you are listed on a website. It doesn’t say you are employed but I wondered why your name was listed as belonging to CCD. They may have just pulled names of people off the website. Thanks for answering. Steve Phoenix was listed, too. A couple of others, too.
Catherine, I’m not trying to silence Ann Malley. The rest of it-just your imagination runnin’ wild, again.
“ The Catechism of the Catholic Church, which I approved … and the publication of which I today order by virtue of my Apostolic Authority, is a statement of the Church’s faith and of catholic doctrine, attested to or illumined by Sacred Scripture, the Apostolic Tradition and the Church’s Magisterium. I declare it to be a sure norm for teaching the faith and thus a valid and legitimate instrument for ecclesial communion. “ – Pope John Paul II (CCC pg 5)
“ – – – let us ask ourselves if we have actually taken a few steps to get to know Christ and the truths of faith more, by reading and meditating on the Scriptures, studying the Catechism, steadily approaching the Sacraments.” Pope Francis, May 15, 2013.
The position of the Catholic Church is different than Mrs. Goodall’s. Rather than trying to limit the damage to the planet done by the enormous number of people doing “nasty things” by lowing the number of people on the planet, the Catholic Church tells people not to do the nasty things that are damaging the planet.
Since she is coming to Dominican to talk about nature, perhaps she will be given the chance for an understanding of that. Pray for her.
It is said that Pope Francis’ next encyclical is to be about the environment. The apparitions at Medjugorje are not approved but it was reported there that Mary told the seers that Satan’s plan was not just to destroy mankind, but to destroy the entire earth.
This university calls itself an independent college. There is nothing on it’s website that indicates that is a Catholic college. (Except the history section.)
1) When the Laity know their Catholic Bible;
2) When the Laity know their “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition”;
3) When the Laity know how to search the “Code of Canon Law”;
4) When the Laity know what is supposed to be done at the Ordinary Form of the Mass by searching GIRM (General Instruction of the Roman Missal);
– – – their knowledge can stand up to bad Bishops or bad Priests and accurately correct them as required of each of us.
Documentation is most effective.

Ann M and Catherine, you can not easily correct a Priest or Bishop without accurate documentation. – Dcoumentation that he is bound to uphold, or is a heretic or schismatic himself.
If he does not change his ways, report him to the Vatican (again with the documentation).
We all have a responsibility to the TRUTH.
God bless you, Pete, but I don’t believe the laity can easily correct the bad action of a Priest or Bishop even with proper knowledge and documentation. I will not say correct the Priest or Bishop themselves, because there is no correcting them. They are intelligent, grown men making decisions to run their parishes as they, and their direct hierarchy, see fit. Reworking matters for ‘pastoral’ purposes is a choice – you know the phrase, lenient to a fault.
I do applaud your diligence in learning and documenting. For while we may not be able to correct our priests and Bishops, you can help others to learn and be diligent in avoiding error. That is a God sent blessing!
Ann M., Many times a Bishop or Priest will correct themselves with accurate Church documentation. Sometimes it is only an error.
Sometimes (usually due to the sin of Pride or other) the Vatican will have to step in.
For those obstinate in wrong doing I refer you to Code of Canon Law: Title IX, Chapter II “LOSS of ECCLESIASTICAL OFFICE” – resignation, transfer. removal, privation..
https://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_INDEX.HTM
Several people informed the Vatican (under Pope Benedict) of
Australian Bishop William Morris who was removed from Office by the Pope in 2011.
Granted this is rare, but with the correct documentation, and when enough of the Laity get involved – it can be done should it become necessary.
We must know our Faith enough to stand strong and use the documentation provided on the Vatican web site which includes the CCC; the Code of Canon Law; and GIRM (for Mass abuses).
Thank you for your uplifting illustration, Matt, with regard to true Catholic Action. It is paramount that the laity know the Faith. No question.
Even so, the reality of having Bishops and Priests be in error with regard to matters of the CCC, the Code of Canon Law, and the GIRM is a severe problem. The why being that it is their duty to know and execute these things. That is why I believe that the laity speaking up in numbers is not a matter of correcting the error that has somehow crept into a particular diocese or parish, but rather the litmus test of whether or not the faithful in a certain area will tolerate error anymore.
Enough complains facilitates a shift. The same scenario works in the opposite direction when a faithful priest executes his office in accord with the CCC, Canon Law, and the GIRM only to be reprimanded or removed by his Bishop thanks to an aftermath of complaints. IOW: We get the leadership we pray for…. God gives us what we want.
That said, I doubt anyone would want to trust their physical health to a doctor who had to be reminded of proper procedure. Like having to remind a phlebotomist to change the needle because she’s gotten out of practice. Would you trust your children there? That’s the issue for me…. as our children are our sacred trust and we are their primary teachers.
You seem to want to sow discord and division in the Church. Please name any Catholic Bishop that is in error with regard to matters of the CCC, Canon Law and GIRM. Please name the priests who have been removed for “executing their office” in accord with the CCC, Canon Law and GIRM. “We get the leadership we pray for…” Whose we? You said that you don’t go to the Catholic Church. Division and accusation are marks of the devil.
There is no need to sow discord where discord already exists, Sanfried. Regarding Bishops, I’ll leave you to your own research and interpretation regarding error as skating around duty seems the norm (which would explain so many anti-Catholic speakers/instructors present allowed at ‘Catholic’ schools. Do you actually read the articles here on CCD?).
You can look up the case involving Rev. Marcel Guarnizo in Gaithersburg, Maryland concerning faithful priests.
We do get the leadership we pray for – prayer centering on that which we truly desire in our hearts. A tepid, heresy-skirting faithful render a tepid, heresy-skirting hierarchy. The ‘who’ are Catholics, sanfried.
That said, blind self-righteousness in the face of reality is the sign of the Devil too as the blind will lead the blind into the pit. Pretending will not make the danger go away. And feigning unity where there is disunity will help no one.
I’m reminded of, “But surely you are not saying that WE are blind.” A rather puffed up response to Our Lord from those who should have had the clearest sight of all.
God bless.
The reason that excellent documentation is required – dates, times, locations, which Church teaching is being abused, etc., is because the Vatican will appoint a faithful Bishop to investigate. In the case of Morris, Abp Chaput of the USA was assigned to investigate.
The offending Bishop, has every right to dispute the claims with his own documentation.
If the investigating Bishop deems that the claims are legitimate and that the Bishop is unwilling to correct his ways, then the offending Bishop meets with the Pope. In the case of Morris the final decision of the Pope was to remove him from office.
It is most helpful when there is more than one complaint, or the complaint has many signatures.
We must include in any complaint to the Vatican our original written contact (copy of email, etc) with the offending Bishop or Priest to prove that we have contacted him first, giving every opportuntity for personal correction.
Ann Malley, I would like to remind you than not only is libel immoral, it is also illegal. You made statements. Back them up.
sanfried, your terse demands do not hide the truth and/or compel me to do additional research for facts/dates/and names that you would only deny. Read for yourself. Speak with others outside your usual circles or in other diocese across the country.
If you do not believe what you read or hear, you will likely follow the likes of Harry Reid in also believing that all of the Affordable Care Act fallout is based in lies. That is your prerogative.
As it is, you dismiss the example I did give you. That’s okay. But if you love the Church, as I’m sure you do, fight for her. That is do not tolerate the shinnying that pollutes and scandalizes by those on the inside.
My team right or wrong may have worked back in the day, but no more. Scandals and inconsistencies are out and need to be dealt with fully and consistently.
God bless
k/anonymous/ sanfried asks, “Ann Malley, I would like to remind you than not only is libel immoral, it is also illegal. You made statements. Back them up.”
1. Lavender mafia tactics are immoral.
2. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI backed up those statements.
Taken From:
With The Pope Against Homoheresy by Fr. Dariusz Oko Ph.D.
“While still a Cardinal during the famous Way of the Cross at the Colosseum in 2005, shortly before the death of John Paul II and his own election as Pope: “Should we not also think of how much Christ suffers in his own Church? … how often must he enter empty and evil hearts! How often do we celebrate only ourselves, without even realizing that he is there! How often is his Word twisted and misused! What little faith is present behind so many theories, so many empty words! How much filth there is in the Church, and even among those who, in the priesthood, ought to belong entirely to him! How much pride, how much self- complacency! … We can only call to him from the depths of our hearts: Kyrie eleison – Lord, save us (cf. Mt 8: 25)”. The Pope also said: “The greatest persecution of the Church comes not from her enemies without, but arises from sin within the Church”[17]. He knew what task was awaiting him, and taking office on April 24, 2005, said: “Pray for me, that I may not flee for fear of the wolves.”
You can’t back it up.
“Don’t obsess about what you do and what you do not know. Present your article from a position of authority and – voila – you become the authority. People are conditioned to believe that anything published is by virtue of it’s getting published is somehow the Truth.” Ann Malley November 14, 2013
Father William Most:
What is there to do to be free from attachment to venial sin, which is required to gain a plenary indulgence? It is a gap in one’s purpose of amendment, as if he said to himself: “I do not intend to commit many or great sins. But I reserve a bit for myself: If it gets hard to join in a conversation without talking against neighbor — I will do it. If it gets too hard to stick to the truth: I will lie. There are many other possibilities.
A person who has such an attitude does not have to do it consciously: it is merely the standard, habitual attitude of his soul: it sets limits to his response to God. It is as if he put a clamp on his heart, which lets it expand only so far, and no farther.
That gap not only blocks reception of a plenary indulgence (only a partial indulgence would be received) – it blocks all actual spiritual growth, no matter how many Masses a person may attend, or other good things. It is sad to see people who in general are very good ,yet making no real growth. Soon a retreat is one time to examine one’s attitudes: Do I really mean to hold out? Even if one does not realize he has such a defect, it still harms him. He can begin to really grow only when he finds he has the attitude and clean sit up.
Catherine, thank you once again. I thought I recognized k-anonymous with the line ‘you do not even go to a Catholic Church.’
Still, I’m flattered by his/her, obsessive attention. Too bad such verve isn’t aimed at the true enemy. Catholics truly united and united to Christ are a force to be reckoned with.
God bless.
You are welcome Ann Malley. God bless you!
Respond to the example cited, k, anonymous, sanfried. You seem fixated on the idea that writing with authority so as to become the authority (or arbiter of truth) is something exclusively used by those who take positions opposed to yours.
Such techniques, however, work both ways. Something very much evidenced by your own insistence on stating the same precepts over and over as a means of shutting down those who disagree with your position.
God bless.
PETE,
Thank you for your wise words. “We all have a responsibility to the TRUTH.” You are correct. Accurate documentation is very important. This is what the servant of God, Father Hardon SJ meant when he said to gather evidence. We have been sending this documentation, (written letters with signatures and videos included) of the abuses that are taking place. A video speaks volumes of evidence. A prelate in the Vatican (who viewed some earlier documents and videos) encouraged the messengers (the laity) to take responsibility for learning the Catholic faith. His exact words were “Los Angeles is a huge can of worms and you are on your own when it comes to researching what the Church truly teaches.” Although some may see that statement as mere “gossip” or as “depressing” it was actually more encouraging and realistic to hear someone in the Vatican speak the truth in terms of expressing the reality of the sagging state of affairs when it comes to Catholics being taught their faith in their own diocese. That statement was also informative for the lay faithful. This is why it is also very important to have a forum such as CCD where falsehoods, dirt hiding and happy ostrich syndrome is met with the no spin zone of charitable Truth. God bless you PETE for always being a steady beacon of encouragement of the CCC Second Edition. Now if we can encourage all of our local bishops to be as enthused and as encouraging as you are when it comes to teaching and enforcing these teachings, that will be a wonderful gift to write to Rome about for a change! Meanwhile your words of good advice about still sending in accurate documentation are being taken to heart in mind and in actions. Thank you PETE!
It is refreshing to get an accurate diagnosis of symptoms, Catherine, instead of being told it’s all in one’s head or that one just isn’t positive enough or doesn’t have enough faith or is full of pride. I cannot imagine anyone on this thread would prefer to be lied to by their doctor when confronted with life threatening illness. And yet, too many seem to just want to pretend when it comes to matters of the soul.
Thank you Catherine, Pete, Steve Phoenix, and all in so very kindly and charitably sticking to the root of what ails us. As that is what is needed to identify the bug and get rid of it.
God bless!
You are welcome Ann Malley!
“I cannot imagine anyone on this thread would prefer to be lied to by their doctor when confronted with life threatening illness. And yet, too many seem to just want to pretend when it comes to matters of the soul.” Ann that is so very true. Imagine someone’s reaction if they discovered that the bank teller also outright lied to them for years about the money that was being slowly and methodically removed from their personal bank account by a slick unrepentant identity thief. People would NOT rest for a moment until they got to the root of the problem. The true teaching identity of the Catholic Church is being removed bit by bit by a steady onslaught of identity thieves who do not accept what the Church has taught for well over 2000 years. The soul is priceless and much more precious in value than the temporary earthly gain of gold or money but many treat the topic of their own money with a much more fervent desire or accounting of honesty than an accounting of their own immortal souls. Christ did forgive the good thief who humbly repented and yet today we have many a deliberate or compromising thief pretending to be in “full communion with Rome” while actually following the example of the unrepentant thief who mocked God and only cared about what was best for himself or for his own agenda of continuing the business of stealing as usual. The unrepentant thief was not told, “Today you will be with me in Paradise.”
same old same old, People in Cassocks or Wolfs in Cassocks?
Having spent her life among the apes as a primadonnagist, it’s only natural that Dr. DooGoodall would take every opportunity to mark her territory against their more cultured, but follically challenged cousins. So when she says, “there are so many of us”, she really means “there are so many of YOU”, because I can’t see her pointing the opposable thumb at her own (or consulting Dr. Kavorkian about how she herself can make a difference).
And then there’s all that blah blah blah about what we’re doing to “the planet”. Isn’t that just a tad chauvinistic? I mean, there are other planets, ya know.
