Fertility and Sterility, the voice of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, has blasted President Trump’s nominee [and as of October 26, confirmed Justice] for the US Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett.
“In the 70-year history of Fertility and Sterility, there has never been a statement published on the seating of a U.S. Supreme Court justice. We feel that with the vacancy of Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s seat on the Supreme Court, women’s constitutional rights are in jeopardy. The nomination of the justice under consideration is of such peril that we write these words of grave concern today.”
“Our distress in the specter of Barrett’s future repeal of legislature surrounding reproductive choice derives from her public record of elevating her own personal beliefs regarding human reproduction over science, a devastating threat to women’s liberty and reproductive choice.”
The ASRM fears that ACB could put its members out of business in a huge and growing market. The industry is estimated to be worth US$25 billion globally and it could grow to $41 billion by 2026.
Although Judge Barrett refused to answer questions about IVF, abortion and contraception during her confirmation hearings in the Senate, her critics point to the fact that she signed an advertisement in 2006 which opposed “abortion on demand” and defended “the right to life from fertilization to the end of natural life.”

Barrett will never be seen as her own person. Just a convenient appointee tasked with obeying neither the law nor her conscience. For the rest of her life. It is difficult to believe that she does not know better. Not at all a role model for Catholic women and young girls.
Justice Barrett is a fantastic role model for ALL women and girls, especially those graced to be Catholic! Put away the hate and say her name, Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett!
Julieta,
It’s too soon to tell. But if she’s as good as people say she is, she’ll take a similar path as Justice Thomas. Thomas started out with a similar reputation because of his detractors who demeaned him because of his race.
However, from his opinions from his first few years on the Court, he quickly became my favorite justice because he could parse a legal argument better than any other justice on the court. It took a good ten years before liberal legal experts also began to recognize the power of his intellect.
Barrett has been demeaned because of her religion – It might take some time, but I suspect that she’ll someday rival Thomas.
Steve – thank you. You make a valid point about Justice Thomas. I have nothing against Ms. Barrrett and I support another Catholic on the Court; but the rushed partisan circumstances surrounding her confirmation will lead to ongoing questioning as to her credentials, since she is young and relatively inexperienced. Being a woman, she will continually be viewed more critically than a man would be. I am going to pray that you are right and that she can prove herself.
No one questioned her credentials. Or her abilities.
Julieta, By her past actions Judge Barrett has been an excellent role model, Catholic, Mother, and Judge, so we can safely assume she will continue to be all these.
She has already encountered and made pro-life judicial decisions regarding restrictions on abortion, including decisions for parental notification, ban of abortion based on fetal sex, race, disability, and for the burial or cremation for fetal remains.
She said she would follow the constitution and take into consideration any relevant precendential law which was not in conflict with the constitution.
In a 2013 Texas Law Review article, she write
“…that a justice’s duty is to the Constitution and that it is thus more legitimate for her to enforce her best understanding of the Constitution rather than a precedent she thinks is clearly in conflict with it.”
Amy Coney Barrett will certainly be a role model to young woman by her uncompromising pro-life position unlike RBG who promoting death to women and children through abortion. Why is it liberals have a problem with women thinking for themselves and embracing life and what is good in womanhood. Respect and decenc, while RGB embraced death even until the end. Hopefully, please God, she repented at the very end.
Juliette, Amy Coney Barrett is a very highly-trained and highly-educated Supreme Court Justice, a former Notre Dame Law School professor, and former 7th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge– with sterling credentials in her field, and outstanding Christian moral character. She is very objective, scholarly, and professional, when dealing with the Law and professional matters of great importance. In her job, she has to carefully work according to her legal profession– as well as do as the Lord will guide her. She also is known to be a very warm and compassionate Christian woman, who goes the extra mile to help her fellowman. She is faithful to Our Lord, in the Church– and also, in her profession, faithful to the original American Constitution– a Constitution “originalist.” She will not “legislate from the bench,” falsely implementing and inventing crazy, immoral, liberal-leftist “baloney” in interpreting the Constitution and the Law. Amy is also a loving wife and mother of seven children– the seven include her youngest, a little boy with Down Syndrome– plus, two adopted, needy Black children, a boy and a girl, from impoverished Haiti. Amy is sensitive to those who are handicapped and are of Special Needs! She is a tremendous gift to America, in her new position as a Justice of our Supreme Court!
Juliet,if she saves unborn life, she is quite the perfect role model. IVF destroys many pre- born persons in the attempt to find one who survives implantation.they are alive.
If human life is seen only as a profitable commodity, maybe they should be worried.
Yet, there is a Judge infinitely above Justice Barrett’s “pay grade” to Whom they will certainly answer.
IVF is against Catholic teaching. It is immoral and millions of embryos, pre born people, have perished because of it. Millions more frozen embryos remain in limbo in what is a moral dilemma as to how to address them. IVF has few regulations, it’s the wild west, and desperate people who think they are entitled to a baby fork over huge sums of money to get one. The court needs to address this industry and Barrett is one to trust with it, especially with her Catholic pro life credentials.
The job of the Senate is to consent to a nomination by the President if the candidate is qualified. Justice Barratt is very much qualified and deserved confirmation based on qualifications. That said, it is obvious that she does not represent the views of about half the people in the country or the Senate. RGB didn’t represent the views of about half the people in the country either. RGB’s half is now shocked that someone doesn’t agree with them. They want to take their ball and go home. Let’s face it, McConnell played the Schumer like a broken fiddle. Now the liberals will have to live with views with which they disagree for a couple of decades.
Bob One,, for once I agree with you… Schumer was beaten at his own game, do you for a minute think that Schumer would NOT have done the same if the roles were reversed ?
Yeah, bohemond, me too. Maybe Bob One is coming around! “YFC” might be next!
Kristin, I feel compelled … Please don’t put me in the same grouping as YFC. I disagree with him a lot. He is too liberal for me, the moderate on this site. I don’t know that Schumer would have rammed this nomination through. I do know that he has had his time and it is time to go. Pelosi too. We need to get rid of these old people, McConnell included, and get some fresh blood juicing the country. In four score and more, I know something about the brainpower of these people. My rule is that nobody should run for president who is over 45 years old and that there should be term limits for Reps and Senators – 3 terms and you are out, or when you hit 75 yrs.
Bob One– Age and life experience normally should bring wisdom along with it– wisdom, to guide a family, a business, a community, a church, a country– and guide the young! However, in our tragic, immoral, immature, “post-modern” era– we find elders like Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Dianne Feinstein misplaced, in leadership positions– who have the minds of immature, immoral, illiterate, rebellious teens of the inner cities! And young “AOC,” will be likewise, when she grows old!! But the nearly-84-year-old Pope is the biggest shock of all!
Bob One, since Schumer is my Senator I can tell you he is one of the loathsome creatures to ever occupy public office and a staunch Anti-Catholic. If Schumer had a chance to get another Kagan on the court he would have done so without hesitation. He got out played.
There are many problems with IVF. On a secular station on my car radio a program was discussing sperm donors, especially college students. One man admitted on there that in college, he had donated sperm — to get extra money– around a hundred times in the same local. Adults who had been babies whose parents had used such methods were calling in to say how afraid there were of dating because they might be dating one of their own siblings. Poor women are being exploited and used as surrogate mothers, which creates another whole set of problems.
Somethings need to be outlawed — period.
Rep. Ro Khanna has proposed legislation that will set term limits for new justices. He cites a memo by Chief Justice Roberts that states a term limit “would ensure that federal justices would not lose all touch with reality through decades of ivory tower existence.” I hope the next administration will consider it.
Congressman Rohit Khanna is a Silicon Valley lawyer who describes himself as a “progressive capitalist.” Might his pro-abortion extremism have something to do with his wanting term limits for justices? (He voted against the Infants Born Alive Protection Act and for taxpayer funding of abortion.) From his website: “Ro has a 100% pro choice record and served as Board Member of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. … A woman’s right to choose is a fundamental constitutional right.” Or is it maybe because of his support for the LGBTQ+ lobby, now that the Court is not decidedly liberal/progressive? “Providing equal rights for LGBTQ individuals is something that I will never compromise on. … I was encouraged by the Supreme Court’s ruling that affirmed that all loving and committed couples who marry deserve equal respect and treatment under federal law, in addition to its ruling on California’s Proposition 8, allowing same sex marriage to resume in our state. … there is much more to do in order to ensure full equality for LGBTQ Americans. … The ban on transgender individuals serving in the military is narrow-minded and wrong.” (You can check out his website at rokhanna.com/issues for yourself.) I’m suspect of anything this “progressive capitalist”/millionaire socialist (one of the 15 richest members of Congress) is proposing.
The second term Trump administration will not consider such foolishness from the bitter dem losers.
IVF = the re-incarnation
of the Dred Scott decision
….only worse !!
