The following comes from an October 19 Orange County Register article by Brooke E. Seipel:
The Marywood Pastoral Campus, former home of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange, will be demolished in early 2016 to make way for a gated community of 40 single-family detached homes.
The campus, 2811 E. Villareal Drive, was built in 1961 and run by the Sisters of Providence as an all-girls Catholic high school. The Diocese of Orange purchased the property in 1976 for use as its central location, but after a 2013 move to Christ Cathedral – formerly Crystal Cathedral – the property was put up for sale.
Several features of the campus, such as stained glass windows and other decorative elements will be preserved by the diocese and the developer, New Home Co. For slideshow of the soon-to-be demolished Marywood Pastoral Campus, click here.
Doug Woodward, New Home Co. vice president, said he expects the homes will sell for about $1 million to nearly $2 million.
When it is NOT really your money, it sure is fun to spend it.
My father helped build Marywood H.S…..He mentioned that it was all first class in the materials and construction…it was equal to building a hospital…
Preserved in some out of the way storage facility, later sold to antique dealers.
Nice neighborhood, some nice old homes. Gets hazy in the summer, though, and the views are not always as nice as you’d expect. 40 homes is a lot for that land…only on part of it would you be able to build…$1-2 million seems like a lot for what you’d get. Also, I’d be worried about slippage … one of the concerns at Marywood was that it was slipping off the hill. One more thought … the campus was formerly a Catholic girls high school. As Catholic education has imploded in the years, the the Church itself has been in a state of tremendous decline, there were not enough girls, or teaching nuns, to keep the place open. The only graduate of the place I’ve known was a poorly educated, mostly nominal Catholic.
The ground there is very unstable and the facilities were becoming quite run down. The Diocese is better off to be rid of this property.
And the Proceeds will go to…?
Is this windfall destined for pocket money for Lawyers Suing the Church over the Homosex Infiltration of the Priesthood and transfer of serial child abusers (mostly Homosex Ephebophile Attacks on adolescent age Boys) – which has already ruined countless lives and cost untold billion$ to ‘compensate’ for.
Lets See – We have Catholics desperately looking for Work, We have Catholics desperate for Shelter, We have Catholic Land that could be used to help provide these things – And Teach Catholics Work Skills to renovate…
So lets Sell It to Non-Catholic Profiteers – and take care of the Important Business of the Church – Paying Attorneys for Suing Us for our failure to Guard Children from Homosex…
