The conservative Heritage Foundation is reportedly spending one million dollars on ads opposing the passage of the pro-gay marriage Respect for Marriage Act.”The ads are set to run during Thanksgiving NFL and college football games.
The Washington-based think tank hopes to sway the U.S. Senate against voting in favor of the bill in next Monday’s vote for final passage, Fox News reported.
Conservative critics of the bill claim it is deceptively named and would not codify any new rights to same-sex couples. But, worse, if passed, people of religious faiths that oppose gay marriage would be vulnerable to legal actions and other forms of retaliation by radical LGBTQ activists.
“America’s religious liberty is under attack with this impending vote in the Senate,” Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said in a statement. “This legislation does not add one additional benefit to same-sex couples in the United States; it’s an attack that sets the stage to take rights away from people of faith. What it does accomplish is deputizing radical activists to target Americans who cannot in good faith endorse anything other than a man-woman marriage. The American people deserve all the facts.”
Heritage maintains that the bill is being rushed through Congress to get ahead of the GOP takeover of the House in January and that if it becomes law, the bill will “expose religious schools and nonprofits to lawsuits.”
The Respect for Marriage Act was introduced following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade due to Democrats’ unfounded concerns that the Supreme Court could use the Dobbs decision to overrule the Court’s Obergefell gay marriage decision. The measure passed the House in July with the help of 47 Republicans. Still, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) agreed to postpone a vote until after the midterms to give the bill the highest probability of passing — with the expected help of weak Republicans.
Indeed, 12 Republican Senators crossed the aisle and joined Democrats, giving Schumer the victory he was expecting.
Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee warned that the bill is aimed directly at religious institutions and individuals and that the bill’s sponsors refused to add an amendment that protects religion.
New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan also warned that the misnamed bill threatens religious Americans.
“The Respect for Marriage Act seeks to shunt our idea of marriage aside,” Cardinal Dolan said a week ago. “We who hold to these time-honored convictions would be voices in the wilderness, increasingly marginalized and dismissed in the face of Congress’s endorsement of same-sex civil marriages as the national norm.”
The above comes from a Nov. 23 story on Breitbart News.

The ad is really poorly done. It looks like a cheap political ad on the day when every family is trying to avoid politics.
Accidentally gave it a thumbs up. While cleaning out my inbox got on this website and should have stayed off.
I was referring to accidentally giving “poor done’s” post a thumbs up.
the ad is very well done on a day when families celebrate being families and would appreciate a heads-up if a wolf is at the door waiting to devour when the feasting is over
I just spent my first Thanksgiving alone. Ate leftovers. Best Thanksgiving I ever had.
The Heritage Foundation TV ad is excellent! Very thankful for it!
The president and other leftists have urged followers to disrupt family dinners with talk of climate change, women’s “health” (killing babies), how great the economy is doing and other things. So, if some in states where Catholic Republicans are betraying marriage and family see an ad between plays on a football game, who’s harmed?
(The Democrat Catholic senators have hardened their hearts and are more Democrat than Catholic, while most of the Republican Catholic are pro-life and might be open to persuasion about marriage and family, risking being labeled “haters.”)
Who started the polarization? No nation or culture in human history had “gay marriage” until now.
Children deserve a father and a mother. As the Church teaches, to intentionally deprive a child of a mother and a father is a form of child abuse.
Give a source for your claim that the Catholic Church teaches that to intentionally deprive a child of a mother and a father is a form of child abuse.
Not arguing. Just would like to know where you saw that.
Sure. It’s from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s 2003 “Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons” #7. It’s available in English at the Vatican’s website at http://www.vatican.va
I hope that helps.
From the document: CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING PROPOSALS TO GIVE LEGAL RECOGNITION TO UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS
#7: As experience has shown, the absence of sexual complementarity in these unions creates obstacles in the normal development of children who would be placed in the care of such persons. They would be deprived of the experience of either fatherhood or motherhood. Allowing children to be adopted by persons living in such unions would actually mean doing violence to these children, in the sense that their condition of dependency would be used to place them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development. This is gravely immoral and in open contradiction to the principle, recognized also in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, that the best interests of the child, as the weaker and more vulnerable party, are to be the paramount consideration in every case.
Thank you for providing your source.
I think taking it out of context changed the meaning a little.
I think I used it in context. I used abuse rather than violence.
And, the unintentional deprivation of a father or mother, through death, for example, is tragic, but not immoral.
Does the Church approve single-parent adoptions?
Good question, honest question. I don’t know. Maybe some other readers here know and can chime in.
My question: wouldn’t one parent be better than no parent? A child in such a situation already has no father or mother. For whatever reason, she or he has already been deprived, even if unintentionally, of both parents.
There is nothing intrinsically disordered about a single parent household. Same-sex union households are intrinsically disordered.
It’s like life is now constantly a barrage of political soundbites. I hate it.
GLTB has no place in the church. Just like the rainbow people wouldn’t stand for a troop of swastika-wearing Nazis being accepted and affirmed in their Nazism at a Catholic parish in the name of accompaniment, and just like a Nazi-welcoming ministry or Nazi-friendly parishes would be considered absurd, the BLTG shouldn’t be welcomed at Catholic parishes if they want to announce and flaunt their identities and relationships. No thanks, no way. Keep it to yourself and everything will be fine. Announce it and expect others to accept it, and there’s where you will have problems.
I agree. Everyone has their problems, and should keep to themselves– especially, on issues regarding sex. And LGBT sex and gender issues do not belong in the Church. Don’t tell people you have LGBT problems, stay happily in your closet, and only confide in a few trusted family members and friends, that you feel comfortable with. Lead a good life, act normal, have good manners, good morals, a sense of respect and responsibility to God, family, community and country, be a good employee on-the-job, do your part in life– and you will go far.
I hope Jesus doesn’t accidentally come to the door of your ideal parish.
He does not have to come to the door. He is already inside.
And He does nothing accidentally.
@Kristine you raise a valid point. “Shouldn’t be welcomed”? The poster lacks basic understanding of Catholic teaching.
You and Kristine took “no place in the church’s” words out of context. You omitted “if they want to announce and flaunt their identities and relationships”. People who do such things should not be welcomed by the faithful as they are contradicting Church teachings, confusing the weak and are not going to church to learn to avoid sins, but to flaunt them. Such people St. Paul, St. Jude and the other Apostles tell us to avoid and to remove them from our assemblies. Read the New Testament book of Jude.
As the saying goes, “Bad companions corrupt good morals.”
America has fallen deeply into the abyss of sin, lies, chaos and destruction. Our country is trapped and rotting in evil, filth, lies, and sin, brought in by Satanic, revolutionary, immoral, demented liberal leftist activists, hippies, filthy, demented, fraudulent, Freud-based psychologists, and sinful, leftist revolutionary academia of the 1960s. Very grateful for excellent, conservative, Biblically-based organizations like the Heritage Foundation– and many others! They are doing excellent work to try to save America! We have a long way to go, with many fierce battles to yet be fought, to bring America back to God, and to a Godly life– in a Culture of Life– of obedience to God, and happiness, health, prosperity, beneficence and bountiful blessings for all, under our beloved Creator’s Divine Plan. Otherwise, our great Nation will die, crushed violently by Satan.
This TV ad is excellent! The Heritage Foundation has been hard at work for a number of years, for Pro Christian Marriage and Family, Pro Life for unborn children, and Religious Freedom issues. They have been doing tremendous good for our Nation!
If you liked the ad, good.
It said nothing except go to heritage.org. It did not say ” contact your legislator.”
I went to heritage.org. The first thing I clicked on was a page that wanted a donation.
This organization has revenue of over $125 million a year. The head of the organization makes over $900,000 a year.
I do not give to organizations like that.
As you know, the extreme leftist liberals control the media. It is hard to deal with them, and get your ad, your show, or any material at all– on the media, as they heavily prohibit Christians who tell the truth. Pro Life organizations have also had a terrible time, with the radical liberal-leftist media of today, and have had excellent material axed and prohibited. I am sure the Heritage Foundation did their best, to get around the liberal leftist maniacs in the media, with their recent TV ad. How many media screams of “homophobia” — and death threats, bombs, etc. — did the Heritage Foundation have to put up with?
I get emails and mail all the time, from the Texas Right to Life organization, and many similar Pro Life groups. After helping to pass recent anti-abortion laws in Texas, the Texas Right to Life has often tragically reported incidences of threats, bombs, violence, and intimidation. Yet, they have always courageously stood their ground! Pro Life pregnancy centers have experienced the same thing. Very scary! They need our full support and prayers. They are all in the front lines, working for Christ, fighting battles against Satan.
Advertising costs millions of dollars. You will notice that All organizations have a Donate place to click on. But more than money– they need your support, as an American citizen — faith in God, belief in Pro Life, Pro Christian Marriage/Family, and Pro Religious Freedom, for our great country. Huge organizations like the Christian-based Heritage Foundation, have many wealthy Christian donors, and entire churches, who support their/our cause. I have received their excellent material in the mail, and in emails, for many years.
I pray that I will always have the courage to speak the truth and state that marriage is one man and one woman. Abortion kills children and violates women and girls. God loves all persons. Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. The Scriptures are the revealed word of God. If I ever fail to speak those or any other truths, I believe I will have failed to be open to the graces promised in my ordination. God can and will supply where I’m lacking. May faith; and not fear of criticism, fewer donations, fines, loss of my pension or even jail time or worse, determine the contents of my homilies and teaching. (Already, in Canada, one can be accused of a “hate crime” for speaking the truth about marriage.) Please pray for bishops, priests and deacons as well as lay faithful, who face persecution in the workplace for stating the truth.
Note how the gays and the left are trying to infiltrate the World Cup in Qatar with gay propaganda though they know full well that Qatari culture rejects gay displays. In any other circumstance, a group that tried to impose its view on another culture would be condemned as imperialist or colonialist and failing to value diversity. But because the gays are immune from all criticism, they get to try to corrupt Qatar and get a free pass from the media.
Militant LGBTs and pro abortionists get their way like violent, radical Muslims– death threats, bombs, violence. Cries of “gay rights,” “women’s rights,” “homophobia,” “transphobia,” “discrimination,” “marriage equality,” “reproductive rights,” “misogyny,” etc. etc. And plenty of censorship. Satanic.
Today, Nov. 29th, the Senate passed the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act, with bipartisan support. Shameful. It is expected to pass in the House.
