The pilgrim images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego have begun their annual tour through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with a kick-off celebration at Our Lady of Guadalupe “La Lupita” Parish in El Monte on Oct. 22. The “tardeada,” or afternoon family celebration, was a fundraising event with singing, dancing, food, and raffles open to all LA Catholics.

Each year, the images travel to different parishes around the archdiocese, where they are venerated at special Masses and celebrations.

The Guadalupe image is an exact digital reproduction of the original image in Mexico City’s Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and has been blessed and touched to the original image.
