There’s nothing like the sound of voices reverberating in a big, empty church. But Mary’s heart was even more resonant than that. Can you hear the Divine Harmony?
Click here for five minutes (or less) of assorted wisdom from Father Joseph Fessio, S.J., founder of Ignatius Press in San Francisco.
Father Fessio studied with Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Henri De Lubac before returning to California where he began publishing these theologians and others – including Cardinal Pell, Cardinal Sarah, novelist Michael O’Brien.
Church liberal and popular writer Andrew Greeley, S.J. called Fessio “the most powerful man in the American Church.”

I am detecting desperation and nervousness among TLM proponents. Lately they have been publishing quite a few articles attempting to persuade people that the TLM is better and the future of the church. If the TLM were an automatic draw, as they have claimed, they wouldn’t have to do that. I think the TLM’s expiration date is nearing, and they’re nervous because they realize it has been a fad, not an enduring movement.
This article isn’t about TLM, but I think the traditional Latin Mass will always have its place. There are many Catholics who like it. I personally like some Latin in Mass and I love the Latin in adoration. It takes me out of myself, and moves me towards God, which is a great thing during worship.
