The following comes from an essay by Hadley Arkes which appeared September 11 on The Catholic Thing website.
…In the filmed records, we will now have a lasting image of delegates [at the Democratic convention last week], on their feet, shouting their high outrage as the managers sought to insert at least one reference to God in the Democratic platform.
The outrage was fueled by disbelief, for it was clear to anyone with normal hearing that the voice-vote did not come even close to the two-thirds vote required to amend the platform. But the managers were compelled to call for a voice-vote: They could not possibly want a roll call, with a record jarringly precise of the number of delegates who were willing to vote against even a passing mention of God
…. If we could take surveys of the delegates to the two political conventions, the delegates would no doubt divide sharply. My own guess is that about 80 per cent of the Republican delegates would regard it as a settled truth that we were “endowed by [our] Creator” with certain rights, and that roughly the same portion of the Democratic delegates would find the notion laughable.
One task for the managers was to keep that laughter of ridicule from being overheard by the public outside the hall.
The mention of God came in a conventional sentiment, offered in passing, about a country in which each person can realize his “God-given potential.” That sentiment may be discounted, though, by the awareness that most of the delegates also think that babies in the womb are themselves only “potential” human beings.
And so we may wonder: when do human beings acquire that “God-given potential”? If we all have it, from the beginning, then the platform should record a pious commitment to “God-given potential, unless it is necessary to snuff out what God has given.”
Actually, some of the speakers came close to that language, for the need to defend the indefensible will drive that tendency, strongly working in politics, to generate euphemisms. George Orwell noted the dynamic in his famous essay on “Politics and the English Language”: “Defenseless villages are bombarded from the air, the inhabitants driven out into the countryside, the cattle machine-gunned, the huts set on fire with incendiary bullets: this is called pacification.”
The equivalent – or worse – was provided by Tim Kaine, the former Governor of Virginia and candidate now for the U.S. Senate. Speaking of the Republicans at their convention, he said, “Last week, they passed a platform demanding privacy for Super PACs and denying privacy to women making health care decisions.”
….With his own large nature, and the reach of his Church, Cardinal Timothy Dolan was willing to encompass both political conventions with a closing prayer at each. The prayers were essentially the same. But with the Democrats, his plea for the protection of children in the womb and the institution of marriage stood in stark opposition to the doctrines that claimed the devotion of the delegates.
Some of our friends have taken that confrontation as the ground to approve and savor the Cardinal’s moment at the convention. But I doubt that the delegates paid much attention. They were free to regard him as rather like the balloons that float down on cue – just another part of the color and rituals at the convention, with a meaning the delegates were free to ignore.
Far more likely, I fear, was the reassurance to many Catholics still wanting to hang on in their old party: that the dramatic opposition to the mandates on contraception, the peremptory dismissal of religious freedom, the full-bore support for same-sex marriage and abortion – that all of this was high drama that finally made no political difference.
Once again, they could infer, one could support all of these things and still be a good Catholic. I adore Cardinal Dolan, in his conviction and warmth and that large nature. But I wish he had gone to a ball game that night.

The night American Democrats booed God was more stunning to me than the morning Muslim terrorists bombed the USA in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennyslvania. The Democrats booing God at first struck me as the moment the Democrats lost the election; when repeated attempts to make sure the assembled delegates of the Democratic party meant to shout down God Himself only verified that there had been no misunderstanding, I was covered in goosebumps from head to toe, hearing it verified vociferously that these people are openly, defiantly opposed to the very mention of the holy name of God. Where has happened in America? Terrorists are not America’s greatest problem; they have killed “only” a few thousand people on American soil. those among us who, defying God, support killing inconvenient babies inconveniently living in their mothers’ wombs have killed 50 million of us! These are the enemies of our country’s great legacy as a nation built on the Judeo-Christian ethic. Should we have been surprised that the murderers of millions of American babies, together with their supporters and accomplices, would openly defy God Himself?
Blaming Democrats for 50 million abortions and calling them Godless is just insane. As a prolife Democrat, I struggle every election and every vote. But in the end, as a freedom loving American (as well as a faithful Catholic), I just cannot vote for a candidate who imposes his religious views on the rest of the country – and many of whom also want to cut tax supported common good programs for the poor, start wars in Iran and Syria, break up immigrant families and execute all the criminals.
Both political parties are a joke.
I just cannot ignore your logic. To disregard the most important moral values given us by God in order to cater to the Godless Democratic party is irrational. A CATHOLIC cannot vote for the democrats today and remain Catholic. What ever nonsense you find to justify this does not measure up to their platform that goes against almost everything God asks of us and the Church demands to remain Catholic. I say anyone who supports Obama has de facto ex-communicated themselves and sacrificed their very souls. I pray you and others like you see the light before it is too late but I doubt very much that will happen as a Catholic could never even look at things this way.
Way to go Anita! You hit the nail squarely on the head!
No matter how a Catholic may feel about something he cannot invent his own rules on what constitutes an offense that obtains an automatic excommunication. That belongs to the realm of canon law.
You are misguided no one is “imposing religious views” you either believe ripping a baby to pieces in its mothers womb is murder or it isnt, religion has nothing to do with this..
you cannot be a Democrat and a Catholic. The two believe systems are opposed to each other.
You probably do not understand very well what it is you believe.
That is not correct. No lay person or even a preist can declare this. It would take a bishop and no bishop has said this.
Yeah, but common sense still can declare it.
Further any Government that does not recognize and protect Christ and his Church as the only legitimate faith is not ideal.
We should all work to bring the reign of Christ and his True Church to the world, meanwhile we should at least not be supporting those that would given reign abolish all mention of God in public life.
The Democratic party is clearly an anti Catholic party. They are not very far off from persecuting the clergy.
Carindal Dolan see the post above from prolife and prochoice. This person thinks they are a good faithful Catholic! What a lie they live, this is a true example of what happens when the shepherds of our church mislead. This person obviously does not understand the instinctive evils. Maybe that poster is actually “gay friendly” and that is why they vote Democrat.
Actually I have no trust in Cardinal Dolan. He plays too much politics. Just remember he helped propel Obama into presiency again. He stabbed the back of Catholics.
you cannot be prolife and prochoice. You cannot be Catholic and be prochoice. No wonder you struggle with every election; schizophrenic beliefs cause that. The first and most important right is the right to life, without that all the other concerns re: war, immigration, care of the poor are meaningless. Catholics can differ on ways to handle many of those problems and not all have to be the job of government, but protection of the pre-born, and the elderly that Obamacare seeks to euthanize, has to come first. Get your priorities in line and it will become clear that being a Democrat is very quickly becoming anti-Catholic (anti-Christian). This is shameful, but due to the leadership that party has chosen, it is the truth. Godless party? I heard the voice vote and it was definetly not in favor of putting God back in their platform…it was called differently by the floor person to save face and avoid the headline that would follow. If a party cannot protect the innocent life of the unborn, what on earth makes you think they would stand up for life at all?
Prolife and prochoice: Really? In good conscience you can vote for someone like Obama who promotes evil because you don’t believe in promoting the good that someone like Romney is doing. I don’t agree with Romney’s religious views, but he is not advocating for abortion, an intrinsic evil, nor is he spending our tax dollars on funding abortion whereas Obama is.
He did when he was governor.
If you knowingly vote for candidates that support and enable abortion, then you most definitely not a “faithful Catholic.” Faithful Catholics are faithful to ALL defined Church teachings.
Just so, the church teaches that abortion is morally evil and cannot be reconciled, regardless of circumstance. On the other hand, civil policies on taxes and relief programs are not so defined. As for war, the Church recognizes the concept of just war; and regarding illegal immigration and the death penalty, the Church also teaches that just civil laws are to be obeyed by all Catholics.
If you believe that a Catholic can separate their religious/ moral code from their secular life, then you are seriously misguided.
Absolutely! Well done!
Y OU HAVE NO FAITH AND DO NOT HAVE THE FACTS TO BACK UP YOUR CLAIM. A CINO PERHAPS OR A FRAUD, BUT A REAL CATHOLIC CANNOT SUPPORT ABORTION. BY ALL THECOMMANDMENTS, THE COMMANDMENTS OF THE CHURCH, AND THE LAWS , YOU ARE EXCOMMUNICATED IF YOU ACCEPT THESE PROABORT POOISITIONS AND PRACTIVE THE. LIFE BEGINSA AT CONCEPTION, NOT WHEN A LIVE BABY IS CONSIDERED RIPE FOR ABORTION.
Prolife and prochoice are euphuisms for pro-abortion and anti-abortion. The issue is whether or not abortion should be legal. So one is either pro-legal-abortion or anti-legal-abortion. You cannot be both.
After watching three ranting days of the DNC, Cardinal Dolan seemed so out of place, and who invited him I wonder? All I can say is, Our Lady is looking for conversions, maybe, just maybe there were some that the prayer of the Cardinal showered some grace upon?? Hopefully then, they would be moving out of the donkey party!
Carolyn read the post from prolife and pro choice. Perfect example of the real outcome. Have you read the whole article, it explained the effects of Cardinal Dolan being there have caused many who proudly continue to say they are a Democrat. They live the lie thinking that the Democratic party are for the poor! I actually feel that some people actually hate white people and that is why they refuse to vote for a white man. I say that because I hear that often from Mexican’s, Arabic people. I’m sure many voted for Obama because he was black too.
Abeca, I can agree that the Democrats could have gotten the impression that Cardinal Dolan was sanctioning their wayward beliefs by his presence, but he did the right thing, we still have our parties intact, (per constitution) at least to this point. Prolife Prochoice blogger is so sad and so misdirected, that I don’t think anything but the Divine Grace of God can change that mind, or others with like mindsets. Cardinal Dolan didn’t have anything to do with the thinking of this person, they were long gone before he ever got there. I don’t have answers to the mystery of why some of us adhere to Truth and some of us do not? Many saw the evil of Hitler and many did not, and many were Catholics! Only God can judge why. Maybe it is as simple as not going to confession, remaining in a sin (prejudice could be one of them) that the person just doesn’t want to give up? Maybe it is just plain ignorance, or being swayed by the verbiage that drips from the secular media? God see’s everything, I only pray that I remain on the right track, and try to do the right things.
God Bless You Abeca
God bless you too Carolyn : )
It was purely political.
We will soon see what happens at the annual Al Smith Dinner. Will the Cardinal once again invoke the protection of the unborn and traditional marriage with the Obamanation standing very near him? I sincerely hope and pray so!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
and religious freedom!
Of course Mr. Arkes is correct. Catholics will indeed infer that they may vote for whomever they wish regardless of the intrinsic evils supported. Cardinal Dolan really ought to have gone to a ballgame instead. And yet, after so many disappointments from our USCCB, I can’t help but wonder if the remnant of the Faithful might not be better off ignoring politics and the USCCB, and to switch to an inward focus on growing in personal holiness. In times as corrupt as these, maybe nothing can be done except to pray.
Dolan is nothing more than a BULL in a china cabinet, soon later he will knock the China to the floor!! I must admit I do find the Cardinal very entertaining and he has a great sense of humor, he will need it!!!
Thomas Edward Miles,
By your own words. You are nothing more than a very lost child of God. You say that you are NOW amused, but that will not last. Unless, YOU, yourself, have an honest conversion of heart, a good sense of humor does nothing for those who are condemned to suffering in hell for all eternity. I certainly do not want that for your soul and I know that God loves you and wants you to stop mocking His Laws. Why don’t you care about your own soul like you care about the babies who are mercilessly murdered in the womb? Where is that softness of heart for your own eternity? It would be far better for you Thomas if you were completely faithful. Don’t you realize that you are already going to have to make amends for the damage that you are causing to other lost souls?
Why not start today to make amends instead of harming your own soul for temporary entertainment gains on this earth? A good, holy and faithful priest explained to us that God is just. He does not force His love on us. Thomas, We can choose eternal life by our continued striving to be completely faithful to God. OR -We can choose to be sinfully amused our entire lifetime and our only reward will be that very brief lifetime of temporary entertainment.
Catherine, I have already ask Thomas Edward Miles why he is here? There comes a time of enlightenment for some of us, when we realize that there are people who actually enjoy the response that you just gave. Just envision him as he read your blog with a sly smirk on his face, and as you Catherine have stated, “sinfully amused.” It is his game, he obviously enjoys it. The”piper” will be down his road one day, the smirk will either be gone, or he will take it to hell with him. Well Catherine we can only hope that with all the great blogging on CCD, that he reads often, he will blossom one day into a “found child.”
Carolyn yes I pray and vote for his blossoming into a “found child” as you call it but I do appreciate Catherine’s wisdom and discernment as well. : )
By appearing at the Democratic Convention and giving his blessing at the end, Cardinal Dolan gave his tacit approval to the Democrats’ platform of contraception, abortion, and same-sex “marriage.” The delegates did not even want the name of God mentioned. He should not have gone near there.
Sarah you are very wise and your comments are very much appreciated! A breath of fresh air. I can breath again…..
“Once again, they could infer, one could support all of these things and still be a good Catholic” ~ Cardinal Dolan sent precisely that message a few weeks ago when he “celebrated” Biden and Ryan’s faith by saying: “We’ve got two men who – and you can disagree with one of them or both of them – say they take their faith seriously, who don’t try to hide it, and who say, ‘Hey, my Catholic upbringing and my Catholic formation influences the way I think.’ Not bad. Not bad.” bit[dot]ly/RMs5cF
Well said. How do the men who guard the flock not recognize that they are leading the flock toward evil, when they lend credence to evil by blessing it? No parsing of words will erase the optic. Cardinal Dolan blessed the evil intentions of political policies that advocate for destruction of life & liberty.
Thank God that Cardinal Dolan did not go to a secular ballgame, but, instead went into the outer pits of hell and gave a prayer to God, as his voice was the only one there that proclaimed the truth and that he was also the only true Catholic there. The Republicans (of which I am not, as I am a Democrat) are not perfect and Romney might be a good business man, but he is not a Christian and he needs to be taught that birth-control is evil and that Jesus is the Son of God and not just another human prophet and that he needs to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior and allow the Holy Spirit to come into his life. The Civil War was an ugly war, but this new war that Obama and his fiends is a spiritual war and it is even more heinous than all of the wars that this world has ever seen. WE NEED TO STOP OBAMANISM, NOW!!! Psalm 109:8 “May his days be few; May another take his office”. NAB +JMJ+
JMJ I disagree with you
Straining at gnats while swallowing camels, are we, JMJ?
JMJ,
I left the Demoncrat Party at a time when some in which some were saying I was being groomed by Congressman Doyle to be his successor because I easily recognized the forces of Satan who had taken over that Party. I strongly recommend that you do the same for the good of your Eternal Soul!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
I have seen the web site ” WHAT CATHOLICS REALLY BELIEVE SOURCE “.
* * * * * * * * Check out the provided links regarding voting, and pass them on to every Catholic you know.
It includes the requirement for all Catholic citizens to vote from the CCC,
and
1) A statement by Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict);
2) A Voting Guide for Serious Catholics;
3) Where do Candidates stand on key issues (2012 Presidential);
4) A Comparison of the 2012 Republican and Democratic Party Platforms;
5) A link to the short video “Test of Fire”.
No Catholic can vote for any candidate who supports or promotes: ABORTION, GAY-marriage, and is against FREEDOM of RELIGION.
This is probably the most important election in our lifetimes.
The last paragraph of this article says it all. Cardinal Dolan’s time would have been better served throwing out the first ball at a baseball game. You cannot support all the things that the Democrats do and be a faithful Catholic. If anyone was fortunate enough to see Raymond Arroyo on EWTN last Thursday interview Stephen Schneck of Catholics for Obama defend his position, you would clearly see the mind set of a Catholic who supports the President’s ideology. Raymond attempted to reason with Dr. Schneck but it did no good. He might as well have been talking to Howdy Doody as to Dr. Schneck. Catholic Democrats who support the Democrat planks for the most part do not see the error of their thinking in supporting the most pro abortion Presdient in the history of the United States. Dr. Schneck seems to think it is okay to take money from medicare to help the “poor” but could not see the evil in aboriton. It is impossible to understand this reasoning. When the U.S. ecomongy collapses, there will be NO money left to help the poor.
I found the video of Cardinal Dolan’s prayer at the Democrat convention on the internet. What I found sobering, as the camera panned the convention floor, was not seeing the faces of the delegates who appeared bothered by what he was saying, as one might expect this, but rather seeing the faces of those delegates who appeared to be deeply moved and in agreement with the Cardinal’s prayer. I believe that those who nodded and shed tears in agreement have been altogether brainwashed by leftist ideology. They apparently see the value of human life and sadly still believe that the Democrat party is the party to ultimately ensure this life for everyone. How much more lost can one be? These people are desperate for our prayers and sacrifices.
Everyone except the Demoncrat Bureaucrats will be POOR if Obama succeeds in stealing the election.
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Well put, Ann, by one who obviously misses every putt. Can’t wait until the Pope blesses the demons in hell by praying at the gates of Hades to ask God to forgive all the duffers on the way heading there.
What is troubling is that apostate after apostate Catholics came up and spoke at this convention after first declaring themselves Catholic then proceeding to defile Church teachings resulting in how many souls being led astray? Extremely troubling is that not one prince of the Church has defended the flock by publically condemning this defilement . Also, it’s claimed that the polls are saying that the overwhelming Catholic Hispanic vote is going to go to the Obama/Biden baby killing/same sex marriage team. Is any bishop or cardinal going to speak to this community on the sacredness of life and of traditional marriage?
IP – If you were a salesperson at a Honda dealer and a customer walked in and you told them that you were their ‘Honda salesperson’ and then you proceeded to tell that customer that Toyotas were really a better designed and more reliable car, how long would it take you to get fired? Why the hell aren’t these apostates getting fired??????????
An apostate is someone who has rejected the Faith in it’s entirety.
k – the dictionary on my computer says an apostate is “a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principle”. It doesn’t say “in its entirety”.
A few comments:
1. Since Moses prayed for Pharaoh, and the High Priests in the Hasmonean era prayed for the corrupt Kings in Antioch, and early popes prayed for pagan Emperors, Cardinal Dolan praying at the end of the Democratic convention has many precedents and in no way can be taken (along with his other statements) to imply approval of the platform.
2. The attitudes of the left-wing activists who have dominated Democratic conventions since 1972 is far more extreme than that of the average Democrat, and so if by “the party” we mean the whole membership, I doubt it’s anti-God – but the controversy is a clear sign that it’s getting there.
3. A moment will come when the American bishops will have to declare membership in or voting for the Democratic Party as incompatible with the Faith as membership in or voting for the Masons, Nazis or Communists. Once they do (they know) there is no turning back. The Cardinal does not feel that time has arrived yet, and I think he has given evidence that we should trust him on it for now.
So, if prayer was Cdl Dolan’s objective, then what was the point of doing it at the Dem convention? Answer: His motive was other than prayer.
Cardinal Dolan is either brilliant or a fool.
Neither. He is an employee.
JLS that is a good point…I recall one priest saying that being a priest was a job and it was his occupation? Wow that sure was confusing…I thought it was a calling….
Last night on the Factor show Bill O’Reilly asked the listening audience, “WHERE are the voices of the Catholic bishops” in publicly denouncing Carolyn Kennedy’s espoused lies about abortion and Catholic values?
Mr. O’Reilly said that today he would be writing something about this silent lack of Catholic leadership.
Prayers can easily be ignored, but pictures of abortions not so much.
If you are a California voter, you can vote against Obama all you want, until you are blue/red in the face, and it won’t count owing to the current Electoral College set up. As we are constantly promised more and immediate war with Mitt, and lock-stepping with Zionist Israel, with, it is said by Pat Buchanan, no less than 37 of war-criminal-Bush’s administration officials in line for Romney appointments, I’m writing in Ron Paul. Both candidates visit only (so far only Obama) for “fundraising”. There are no Californai Electoral votes for Romney and little money for him to collect.
Sadly Cardinal Dolan was not a hit at DNC.Mainstream media cut him off before he finished.Twitter was alive w/comments fr serious Catholics asking ‘what’ was Cardinal Dolan doing on the same stage as all those from PP;Caroline Kennedy, loudly proclaiming herself a Catholic who is pro abortion; whose father PresJFK also defended woman’s health rights; Barney Frank (D Con) crying tears of joy over his recent same-sex marriage as a realization of what all people of this nation want (or words to that effect);and a POTUS who has loudly proclaimed his refusal to defend DOMA which is law of the land;endorsed same-sex marriage; and so outrageously pro abortion that it even extends to infanticide;to a DNC who had roundly voted GOD out of their platform times; as well as Jerusalem.
I have no TV; I watched RNC on C-Span;but didn’t watch DNC for obvious reasons. However plenty of videos available online of the most outrageous moments as well as comments on the web and twitter. Tragically many of these were most disrespectful and downright humiliating to Cardinal Dolan. Vile language was used in many instances which can not be repeated here.
I had written on Cardinal Dolan’s web page prior to RNC and, DNC to persuade him not to attend either; simply let things play out normally.Procedure is: local Bishop of Convention site is invited.Cardinal D was invited to RNC but instead of deferring he asked local Bishop’s permission to take his place. It was given. Later when he heard objections fr some Dems he inserted himself into DNC by offering to be there, again having to get permission of the local Bishop. I reminded him that only once in our history has a Bishop/Cardinal given an invocation at both RNC/DNC. That was w/Cardinal of Phil where both conventions were held.Further I warned him that appeasement w/those who most of his Bishops and priests are opposing due to DNC attacks on the Church; freedom of religion; conscience;was undermining such efforts. I reminded him that when Hitler annexed Austria he make assurances to the Church there, and Austrian Cardinal tried appeasement (which Vatican protested via their personal envoy to no account). The Austrian Cardinal thought Hitler would be true to his promises of leaving the Church intact. Instead once Hitler had what he wanted, cooperation of the Cardinal, humiliation of him was speedy and we all know the result.Church in Austria was effectively shut down and silenced.Tragedy resulted. I begged Cardinal Dolan not to play this treacherous game.I also warned that he was a big catch for the Obama team.
I am a Republican conservative who thought it would be best if the Cardinal, as Pres of USCCB, stay out of the whole thing and simply let the normal procedures play out.Whether he read my note I don’t know.Nonetheless he persisted in his own plan.DNC finally invited him and we know the rest, sadly.
Pope Benedict XVI reminds Mt 7:6 “do not give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before swine. They will trample them under foot, at best, and perhaps even tear you to shreds.” Holy Father recommends prudence and discernment to all.
God bless you sam!
The large grouping of bishops in our nation and in our time remind me of a collection of gargoyles. How great it would be, though, to witness an actually holy bishop. And again, let’s use the word “holy” as measured and defined by canonized saints and doctors of the Church … not sentimental warm fuzzies aka soothsayers.
I wonder if you are a non-Catholic who comes here to disturb things. I notice that you try to undermine Catholics confidence in their bishops an awful lot. Are you an evangelical who is trying to save Catholics?
JLS, That anonymous isn’t me…lol. We do have some good bishops, but I know what you mean. The Virgin Queen told them they must become austere (per MMP), that was one of the requests for them to become more holy. That is an interesting word, has several meanings. I think she may have meant several of the meanings, but ” rigorously self-disciplined” comes to my mind…something I don’t think many of them have mastered just yet. A good warrior is just that, and is needed in this horrific fight with the fallen angels, (now and since the beginning). I think that this is the main problem…they have lost sight of St Paul’s reminder that we are fighting against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. , Our Lady has been trying to prepare us all for a long time! The time is here, now!
Anonymous,
Are you afraid to give a name? Or are you a cowardly priest who is more afraid of his bishop than of God?
Unfortunately for the Church in America the bishops themselves have done a great deal to undermine confidence in them!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
I am not a priest.
Definitely Anon is not a priest but one of the regulars who posts but has now adopted the Anonymous route just like a few others….
Anonymous your post name is like anyone else of guess what or who…identify your self as something or else your words mean nothing bud or chica!
“I adore Cardinal Dolan….” Therein lies 90% of the problem: the bishops’ unthinking fanboys.

Your comment is very enlightening. It is sad that either the your note did not reach Cardinal Dolan or he did not care about you said. Only God knows. When intrinsic evil is embrace by a party, the only thing we could do is be holy and pray the rosary and do penance for all those in need of our prayer. As long as we have done what we ought to do before God, we just have to trust God that in due time the gates of hell will not prevail.
NO to GOD:
IT REALLY IS NO SURPRISE- – NOT REALLY.
“When people try to live their lives without God they become STUPID.”.
( Franciscan FatherRegis Scanlon Denver Colorado. in 1995 )
That explains the Democrat’s behavior.
How do we explain our Bishop’s behavior?
No matter what great Obama ‘slap in the face’ Cardinal Dolan may be planning for the AL Smith dinner, it is hard to imagine this man doing anything courageous and wise to enhance the stature and image of Christ and his Church. With his ” hail – fellow well met ”
disposition he just doesn’t seem to have it in him. I hope I’m wrong but nobody bet on that.
In today’s America, being a Catholic Democrat makes about as much sense as a Jewish Nazi!
To Maryanne Leonard @ 9:50 p.m., on 9-11: I love your post and agree with every one of your comments and assertions; however, there’s ONE of your figures that I must disagree with. The body count vis-a-vis the abortion holocaust in the U.S. CANNOT be “just” 50 million, as you and many others aver. I mean this is a horrific number of “unrepeatable” human beings killed, in the words, paraphrasically, of JP II, but if you take into account the incredible use of ABORTIFACIENT drugs, through contraception, that are dispensed without even a THOUGHT that these abortifacients are used unconsciously (as to their lethality) by the MANY MILLIONS of women who take them, resulting in an uncountable amount of killing, AND the fact that LEGALIZED KILLING in this country DOES NOT start in January of 1973 through ROE V WADE, but REALLY BEGINS six years EARLIER through the LIBERALIZATION of abortion in California in 1967, and at about the same time in NEW YORK STATE, then the TRUE magnitude of the murder of the innocents is truly ASTOUNDING!
The ONE mitigating factor in all this Is the SHEER MENDACITY of ALL the pro-abort forces who’ve been in charge of COMPILING the numbers of this gargantuan killing machine (or machines) of human BEINGS; for like the various chambers of commerce throughout this country, the forces of militant snuffing of unborns have their FANATICAL BOOSTERISM of the process of abortion to all who’ll be taken in and listen, and partake of its gruesomeness, which is ALWAYS disguised. In other words, the pro-aborts will ALWAYS INFLATE the numbers of the killing process, legalized abortion, so it will then be seen as just a settled issue, NOT to be resisted, but just a NORMAL SITUATION; a woman gets pregnant, and she either DOES or DOES NOT, avail herself of an abortionist’s services. End of story, NO BIG DEAL. EXCEPT IT IS A BIG DEAL! IN FACT, IT’S THE BIGGEST DEAL OF ALL! Because the TRUE figure of the abortion holocaust to me would HAVE to be around 75 to 100 MILLION since 1967 and counting, UNLESS, once again, the organized forces of MILITANT KILLING through legalized abortion have been LYING on a HUGE SCALE. I hope and pray it’s the latter. GOD BLESS ALL, MARKRITE
Markrite,
Your point is well stated!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,
Kenneth M. Fisher
Anyone noticed that the same sex couple, Boehner and Cantor, have signed legislation that Boehner himself says represses religious freedom? The bishops are going to have to stand up on their own without any politicians … their words so far are cheap … so let them act and stand on their own feet instead of the phoney, pharisaical and hypocritical deceivers’ feet. Cdl Dolan should climb down from Obama’s shoulders and become a whole bishop instead of a political adornment.
