The following comes from an Aug. 18 posting on Real Clear Politics.
There’s a short story that has been published about gay fascism. It depicts a dystopian world where heterosexuality has been outlawed, and those found to be straight are operated on, brainwashed, and reeducated to be gay. The story has deep implications about gay marriage, the abuse of language, and totalitarianism.
It’s called “The Crooked Man,” and it was published in 1955.
“The Crooked Man” was written by Charles Beaumont. Beaumont (1929-1967) was an early author of horror and science fiction, contributing several stories to The Twilight Zone and writing the screenplays to several films, including The Intruder and 7 Faces of Dr. Lao. Beaumont died at age thirty-eight of what is now considered Alzheimer’s disease.
“The Crooked Man” was first rejected by Esquire magazine, which found it too controversial, and then published by Hugh Hefner, a young man from Chicago who had recently launched a magazine called Playboy. Hefner would receive a pile of angry mail for publishing Beaumont’s story. (Before revealing the plot, a spoiler alert: anyone who wants to read “The Crooked Man” can do so in a handsome new edition).
“The Crooked Man” is really just a couple of scenes. A handsome young man named Jesse furtively ducks into a nightclub. He sits in a private booth, where he is instantly hit-on by two separate men. The men have a code, fingers tapping across the stomach, to indicate that they want sex. Jesse turns them down, closes the beaded curtain around the booth, and dims the light. He is waiting for someone — a woman named Mina.
Jesse is in love with Mina, but this future love between straight couples is forbidden. Artificial insemination is the law, and the sexes are strictly segregated. Heterosexuals are considered perverts, and hunting them down is official government policy: “These sick people must be cured and made normal,” announces the platform of the majority political party. Jesse has learned to “pass” in this culture. He learns how to walk gay, and turn down sexual advances — which seem to happen constantly — with tact.
Mina shows up. She is disguised, her flowing blonde hair tucked under a wig. Yet it’s very difficult to hide the movement and expressions of a woman, and she and Jesse are found out. He is quickly removed to a government van, which will take him for surgery, re-education, the works.
Sixty years later, it’s not hard to imagine that some elements of “The Crooked Man” have come true, if not its entire dystopian world. There is a dose of fascism in the gay and trans rights movement, but for argument’s sake it’s important to elucidate exactly what those elements are. Two homosexuals wanting to spend their lives together and share expenses and taxes and visitation rights is not a threat to the republic. What is a threat is the manipulation of language, and a conscience-eradicating resentment that calls for large-scale coercion.
In his recent book Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior is Changing Everything, Robert Reilly argues that the drive towards totalitarianism is strong in movements and lifestyles that suffer “the rebuke of conscience.” That is, the more your conscience tells you that what you are doing – and doing over and over again, making it a vice – is wrong, the greater lengths you have to go to to rationalize that behavior. Part of the solution is to simply rewrite language or form a pact with others: if you don’t judge me, I won’t judge you. Reilly:
The power of rationalization drives the culture war, gives it its particularly revolutionary character, and makes its advocates indefatigable. It may draw its energy from desperation, but it is all the more powerful for that. Since failed rationalization means self-recrimination, it must be avoided at all costs. This is why the rationalization is animated by such a lively sense of self-righteousness and outrage…This necessarily becomes a group effort. For them to succeed in this, everyone must accede to the rationalization…Since the necessity for self-justification requires the complicity of the whole culture, holdouts cannot be tolerated, because they are potential rebukes.
This also accounts for the corruption of language that is part of the gay marriage revolution. Whereas during the civil rights revolution Martin Luther King, Jr. and other leaders relentlessly kept circling back to the actual, precise meaning of America’s creed and the letter of the Declaration of Independence, modern gay marriage advocates are evasive about words and their meaning….

The murderous rage of radical Islam might be taken as a similar rationalization. Mohammed slaughtered the Jews of Medina because they trounced him in arguments over the Scriptures. If the new Prophet can’t comprehend the older prophecies of which he is the alleged “fulfillment”, he can’t be much of a prophet. Islamic and gay supremacists scream and threaten for the same reasons: because they fear rational debate and seek to drown the voices of their own inner doubts.
If the author of the Real Clear Religion piece had submitted this essay for my High School English class, he would not have been happy with the grade. Beaumont did not write a predictive piece, he used irony to show how wicked the treatment of gay people was in 1955. Alternatively, he used what would have been certain knowledge of what gay people went through in 1955 to write a cautionary tale of what happens whenever one side of a divisive issue gets all the marbles, as we say. Remember, this story was published 1955, just after the country had thrown off McCarthyism, but still in the midst of a very anti-Soviet passion. Any author would have had that in his mind, and this is not the only story to come from that era that takes a different take on the threat of “totalitarianism”, be it political, cultural, economic etc.
A much better exposition of the short story can be had here: https://www.utne.com/arts/with-us-or-against-us.aspx#axzz3B4jAUZfg And I’d also note that the Beaumont’s short story can be downloaded for free, though apparently some have gotten into copyright problems for uploading some versions.
It does not matter. All those in a state of unrepentant Mortal Sin will go to Hell for eternity.
Jesus said so.
I believe you have written that you’re a biology prof. YFC.
Dana it took me a day to figure out what you were getting at. When I said “my high school english class”, I didn’t mean a class I teach, I meant the class I sat in as a student way back when. I totally see why you misunderstood – it was because I wasn’t clear. My apologies.
Okay, YFC, apologiy accepted. (though not necessary) I thought of you tonight as I drove home from Ann Arbor…I was listening to Catholic Answers hour II and they had one of the men who were featured in the video carried by CCD a short time ago,’Desire of the Everlasting Hills’ and he said some really helpful and encouraging things that I thought you should hear. They usually carry the second hour at noon on most EWTN radio stations…you might check in your area. Very upbeat but clear.
Dear Dana, thank you for thinking of me, I hope that you will intervene for me in prayer often.
YFC, exactly. Talk about taking this story out of context and warping it’s intent. Corruption of language, indeed.
I would not entrust my intellectual development to a biology professor that thinks that a man is supposed to be joined to a man and a woman is supposed to be joined to a woman. The parts just don’t fit.
LOL Ski Ven Good one
As Magghie Gallagher’s friend and fellow debater, Professor John Corvino says, I assure you the parts fit quite nicely, thank you very much. If you’d like a link to the Gallagher Corvino debate, I’d be happy to provide. Pretty sure Corvino won.
Remember when sodomites just wanted to be left alone? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when sodomites just wanted to not be denied entry into the military? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when sodomites just wanted to be able to serve openly in the military? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when sodomites said “Just give us ‘civil unions’ for our filthy immoral lifestyle choice, we don’t want to get ‘married’, we just want to be left alone”? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when sodomites said “Just allow us to marry so we can have the same property rights as heterosexual married couples, we don’t want anything more”? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when sodomites said “Just allow us to adopt boys, like heterosexual married couples do, we don’t want anything more”? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Remember when sodomites said “We are loving and tolerant and will always respect others’ different views and never impose our lifestyle on others”? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
What is the Pepperidge Farm connection?
It’s a play on the old Pepperidge Farm commercials.
He’s trying to be cute.
Give it up, YFC. You’ll be a much happier person.
I won’t give up on love, and if I did, I’d be a much sorrier person.
SODOMY IS LUST AND NOT LOVE!
God bless, yours in Their Hearts,

love ≠ sodomy
love doesn’t equal sex in a heterosexual marriage either, Dear Juergensen.
True love doesn’t mean effecting eternal damnation, ingrained spiritual blindness and hardness of heart on one’s beloved either. That’s what sodomy does, YFC, as your posts clearly demonstrate every day.
YFC true love you will find in Jesus Christ, remember that. You need to repent from your heretical theories, the saints warned about that and how your thinking can actually be a mind in schism as well. You disconnect yourself from being fully in union with the church. Why would you offend our Lord especially on His teachings in regards to the natural law. Pray to have a genuine zeal to please God.
YFC read this:
“The unity of the Church is manifested in the mutual connection or communication of its members, and likewise in the relation of all the members of the Church to one head’ (St. Thomas, 2a tae, 9, xxxix., a. I). From this it is easy to see that men can fall away from the unity of the Church by schism, as well as by heresy… Wherefore as no heresy can ever be justifiable, so in like manner there can be no justification for schism. ‘There is nothing more grievous than the sacrilege of schism… there can be no just necessity for destroying the unity of the Church’ (St. Augustine, Contra Epistolam Parmeniani, lib. ii., cap. ii., n. 25).” (Pope Leo XIII, “Satis Cognitum”, 1896 A.D.)
Dear juergensen, I remember when it was criminal for gay people to conduct their affairs in private in the US (2003)
I remember when the Supreme Court said it was perfectly constitutional for being gay to be criminal (1986)
I remember when it was perfectly legal for police to round up gay people in bars raids (1969 in New York; Fort Worth 2009)
I remember when it was perfectly legal to fire a person just because they were gay (today in most US states)
I remember when it was perfectly legal to deny gay people marriage licenses (today in most US States)
I remember when it was perfectly legal to refuse service to gay people at bars, hotels, bakeries, restaurants, florists (today in many US States)
I remember when it was perfectly OK to beat up gay people on camera and in front of police and no arrests made (Today in Russia)
I remember when it was OK for health insurance providers to refuse service for being HIV (2013).
I remember when it was OK for hospitals and emergency rooms to exclude family members of gay partners or adoptive parents to their children (about 2012).
I remember when it was legal for the majority to vote on laws that violate the Constitutional rights of gay people without amending the Federal Constitution (today in most US cities).
I’m sure I could go on. Maybe I should ask Pepperidge Farm.
Remember when engaging in the homosexual act was considered a ‘mental disorder’?
Remember when people finally believed …live and let live..But then the radical gay lobby forced ‘gay counterfeit unions’ on us?
Remember when religious liberty was protected..
Remember when our children were taught that marriage is a union between one man and one woman not two or three of same or differing sexes.
Remember when the military excluded for good reason those experiencing confusion over their sexual indentity and who engaged in multiple deviant sexual practices?
Remember when people could express their moral objection without fear of harrassment and loss of their jobs and businesses.
Finally, remember where those experiencing gender confusion had no where else to turn…Not so today….Courage and other groups can help in recovery.
Yes, I remember Ronnie, and back then there was no AIDS epidemic, only about four or five STDs, all curable, and divorce was unusual. Just look at this country now. It is liberated all right. Liberated right into the grave.
You know, YFC, the reason that you are so impervious to ANY kind of charitable suggestion, mild rebuke or Catholic admonition, based upon, among other sources, 2,000 years of Catholic teaching, (the Didache) plus numerous Natural Law citations contained especially in the writings of the ancient Greeks like Socrates and Aristotle (all Christianized where they could be by the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas), and all CONDEMING the active homosexual lifestyle, is because your conscience has been SEARED SHUT from all the homo vice you’ve obviously partaken of. iT’S SO SAD, YOUR APPARENTLY CHOSEN GAY LIFESTYLE. And nobody here hates you, we’re not haters. All here seem to me to be sincerely passionate about helping you, if we could, to SAVE YOU from the inevitable place you’re headed for unless you JUMP the gayhomo lifestyle, learn restraint, pray and sacrifice, etc., as Our Lord and Blessed Mother want you to. I’m saying my Rosary now, and I’ll include you in it as part of my intentions. God bless you, but, really, buddy, join COURAGE or check out Dr. Joseph Nicolosi’s group involving “reparative therapy.” Both work, BTW.
Nicolosi does not work, by the way. And, by the way, he had to move out of California for failing to file tax returns here. And some of his co-founders have been caught with rent boys.
I think there are SOME people on CCD who are charitable. But you cannot possibly expect me to believe that people who use terms “gaystapo” “homofascist”, who continue to represent the priest sex abuse crisis as a gay only problem, who openly lie about such simple things as where the Dyke March begins (and are then caught in the lie and fail to make amends), who believe that gay people were responsible for the holocaust, who believe that gay people are nothing but diseased people who should be fired from their jobs, prevented from fair housing, and eliminated from the church —you cannot possibly expect me to believe that these people are charitable. Lies and name calling are never charitable.
Oh, please, and I’m expected to BELIEVE all the logghareia spewings coming from you JUST BECAUSE you’re gay and know so MUCH MORE than, I, a lowly heterosexual Catholic, on what it’s like to live the gay lifestyle where no-one understands, all is hate, hate, hate 24-7 from all these nasty hetero’s? LOL. I’m not a hayseed bumpkin who just fell off the turnip truck from Bakersfield. First, PROVE your allegations against Dr Nicolosi, a very honorable man. Names, dates, places, the whole nine yards. No offense meant. And what, exactly, are “rent boys?” Second, I would highly recommend that you read the great new book by Robert Reilly, “Making Gay O.K.” It’s dynamite and a must-read for all those sorely tempted by S.S.A. It might even turn your life completely around, to the point where you might eagerly run to join “Courage” and begin to do just that. In the meantime, God bless you, YFC, I’ll continue to pray for you. God bless all.
Well, if hayseeds in Bakersfield are anything like those of us in the midwest, then more power to them. I moved back here many years ago from the left coast as it was just too too and then some and have never missed the pretentious elitism. Give me real people with some honest dirt under their nails and wholesome values anyday. I’ve bucked a few hay bales in Oregon but nothing beats the rich smell of corn, the sweetness of hay and the moist earth of the midwest, sparkling with fireflies and humming with insects on a starry summer night. Yeehaw.
mark mitchell excellent comments by the way. Now about Bakersfield, since Dana struck up a curiosity about that place. I’ve been to Bakersfield and I don’t care to go back. It was so hot over there, gee whiz. I always thought Bakersfield had more small town moral people but instead, I found out that their major indoor mall was not a safe place to visit. I was hungry and instead, I was afraid I was gonna get run over by a lot of immoral teenagers with potty mouths. Even in the bathroom, there was a fight between two girls. I didn’t want my kids to wonder off for fear someone was going to jump them.
So Dana you get the picture….that was my first impression visiting there. NO cup of tea, no good ole country folks either. LOL
Dear Mark Mitchell – you ask a fair question. Scientists publish their methods and results so that others can reproduce and verify them. Where has any person ever taken the published record of Dr. Nicolosi and had the results he claimed? Where? Unless and until his claims are verified by independent therapists reproducing his techniques, his therapy is suspect.
In contrast, Dr. Nicolosi’s methods aren’t even clear, even as to a very basic point as to whether or not he employs pornography in his therapy. It is very important to note that Catholic moral theology would never allow a therapy that employs pornography, as it never allows an end (reparation) to justify the means (pornography). https://www.exgaywatch.com/2012/07/dr-nicolosis-claims-contradicted-by-his-own-words/
Having said that, if you would like to provide a copy of the book you cite, I will read it. If not, I choose to spend my money on holy endeavors.
Fellow Catholic , homosexuality was and is a mortal sin, a sin requiring the penalty of eternal death. You can make a labyrinthine excuse for disobeying the law of God, but you must answer for your choice. It makes no sense to come to an orthodox Catholic site and whine about supposed injustices that were (and should still be) in place to prevent the darkness of this evil from becoming commonplace. Your message contains a certain immaturity of thought., and way too much faulty feelings.
And America was a better place for it…..
Thanks Abeca…what a sad story! No hayseeds in Bakersfield! Well, I suppose that’s why we get so many tourists …city slickers gawking at the country hicks…it gets really scary when an overloaded hay wagon overturns or you meet a gigantic harvester on a one lane road. Getting back to the topic , of which I’m utterly sick of, I think as more information about the degradation and completely unwholesome and selfish nature of the homosexual lifestyle becomes more well known to the general public, the sooner the tolerance currently in vogue will turn to disgust and rejection. Such is the nature of a fickle public. Lies and deceit always have a way of being exposed. Only that which is of God lasts forever.. The truth will always out.
The CA Legislature continues to prove itself a body unfit to pass gas, yet wants to control everything – particularly those it considers ‘enemies’ of progress, even it they aren’t and it isn’t:

Robin Williams, Rehab, and Reorientation
https://frcblog.com/2014/08/robin-williams-rehab-and-reorientation/
Robin Williams… just last month, news broke that Williams had again returned to rehab, this time at a Hazelden center in Minnesota…. That was on July 1 — but six weeks later, he was dead.
…In light of this history, I have only one question for socially liberal political activists — why aren’t you trying to outlaw rehab?
I ask the question because such activists are trying to ban a form of mental health treatment — not drug and alcohol rehabilitation, but “sexual orientation change efforts” (“SOCE”), also known as “sexual reorientation therapy.” Such therapy involves assisting people with unwanted same-sex attractions to overcome them…
… critics of reorientation therapy claim that “it doesn’t work” because the proportion of clients who achieve complete transformation on a permanent basis is less than 100%. Can rehab live up to this standard?
There is actually no scientific evidence that reorientation therapy is more harmful than helpful…
The real reason why homosexual activists object to reorientation therapy has nothing to do with science or mental health.
Instead, it has everything to do with politics and ideology. If it is tolerable for some people to try to change from “gay” to straight — and for others to help them with the process — that might imply that it is tolerable to believe that there is something wrong with homosexuality itself.
For ideological reasons, that is a belief that homosexual activists want stamped out at all costs.
If we were to apply the same standards… why not ban rehab? After all, since some people go to rehab and still suffer relapses afterwards, rehab is clearly “ineffective.”
It would be absurd to ban rehab because it doesn’t work for everyone; doesn’t work 100% by eliminating all temptation… It would be equally absurd to ban rehab in order to protect the self-esteem of people who do not consider their alcohol or drug use to be a problem.
But the argument that we should ban sexual orientation change efforts (SOCE) is equally absurd — because it relies on all the same fallacious arguments.
Interesting that this piece brought out many of the Homosexual Sexualist apologists that regularly contribute here. The story is certainly of note, but it is hoped that most of the intelligentsia actually read the full article by Mark Judge. In it, Judge quotes Robert Reilly (“Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior is Changing Everything”) and his theory that “the drive towards totalitarianism is strong in movements and lifestyles that suffer “the rebuke of conscience.”” The only answer, it seems, is to completely rewrite language, and the legal system that enforces society’s mores reflected in that language. Better also to take a close look at “Animal Farm” or “Fahrenheit 451” or any other work that focuses on the corruption of language and culture and beliefs to achieve an end that is perverted and contrary to Natural Law (which, as Catholics, we believe is written on our hearts from God). You know, all of you (including you “YFC”), know that homosexual sexual activities — all of them, all the time — are contrary to what God wants (even if you want to perform them). Much danger here . . . time to stand up and reject Satan.

Whoa Nellie! Historically inaccurate farce penned in part by the infamous Scott Lively, notorious preacher and exporter of hate, charged internationally with crimes against humanity. Here’s a real eye opener: https://www.publications.ojd.state.or.us/docs/A121481.htm
“From a fissure the smoke of Satan has entered the temple of God.” – Pope Paul VI, 1972
“Suddenly so much filth. It was really almost like the crater of a volcano, out of which suddenly a tremendous cloud of filth came, darkening and soiling everything.” – Pope Benedict XVI, 2010
Smoke of Satan … A volcano spewing a cloud of filth … One and the same … The (90% homosexual) sex abuse scandal.
Excellent quotes, thank you juergensen God bless you!
Thank you, Abeca. Alas, the “twilight zone” depicted in this story is no fantasy, but rather the end stage of the sodomite nightmare our society is enduring.
