California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) blasted Walgreens on Monday for its decision to stop dispersing abortion pills in 20 states and said California will not be conducting business with the company.
“California won’t be doing business with @walgreens — or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women’s lives at risk. We’re done,” Newsom tweeted on Monday.
Walgreens announced last week that it will no longer sell abortion pills by mail in 20 states after attorneys general in those states warned that the company and CVS could face legal consequences for selling the pill. The states include Iowa, Alaska, Arkansas, Alabama, South Dakota, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Ohio, South Carolina and Texas; several of the states have strong restrictions on abortion.
“California is reviewing all relationships between Walgreens and the state. We will not pursue business with companies that cave to right wing bullies pushing their extremist agenda or companies that put politics above the health of women and girls,” a spokesperson for Newsom said in an emailed statement to The Hill.
Walgreens’s move, which was first reported by Politico, also drew criticism from the White House on Friday, with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre saying it was “dangerous and unacceptable” for Republicans to target pharmacies for offering the pills.
The Food and Drug Administration expanded availability of the abortion pill in January by allowing U.S. retail pharmacies to offer them directly to patients with a prescription instead of requiring the pill to be dispensed in person by doctors or clinics.
Spokespeople for both Walgreens and CVS said in January that the companies were planning to seek the certification needed to dispense abortion pills in the states where it is legal.

I’ve done one better. I’ve stopped “doing business” with Democrats. I have no Democrats in my personal life. They are gone, rejected, dismissed. I will not be friends with a Democrat. I am not friends with any Democrat. I don’t want such despicable people in my life.
I really don’t like your line of thought. This same noxious rhetoric was used by NY Magazine critic Jerry Saltz when he urged his fellow liberal Democrats to shun their Republican family and friends. Don’t we all have both Republican, Democratic and Independent-voting family and friends? I do. I am partial to that old adage that says, “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar”.
Maybe she’s just realized that it’s more aggravating than it’s worth to *try* to maintain a friendship with a Democrat when you are a conservative.
I know I couldn’t be friends with someone whose values were opposed to mine. What would be the basis of friendship, then? “Democrat” can be considered a label that identifies someone as having values that would cause strong and persistent conflict in a relationship with a conservative.
Pretty convenient strategy, if you think about it. Saves time and grief.
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar? Flies spread germs and are disgusting. The only reason to catch them would be to dispose of them.
You know what else flies are attracted to? Feces. You’ll catch a lot of flies with feces.
Better to stay away from feces so the flies/Democrats will leave you alone. Leave the flies to their feces and go where the roses are.
These days, being a Democrat requires affirming the patently false proposition that “transwomen are women,” as so many prominent Democrats declared today, on women’s history day or whatever it is today.
Axiom, are you saying that you could or would be friends with someone who believed that a biological male is a woman?
Of course, there are other absurdities and evils that Democrats believe and promote.
Count me with “gone” above. No way, Jose.
I am not a member of any political party but the people I know who are have many differences with their party. They mostly just don’t like the other party more.
Do you object to this line of thought?
“7
Woe to the world because of things that cause sin! Such things must come, but woe to the one through whom they come!
8
If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life maimed or crippled than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire.
9
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into fiery Gehenna.”–Matthew 18:7-9
Killifornia must promote baby killing according to our Katholic governor (and graduate of Santa Clara University).
We all know that that British-American-Swiss company, Walgreens, and its major shareholder, Stefano Pessina, are right-wing extremists obsessed with taking away our libertines, I mean, liberties. But, wait, are they?
If I were a Southern Poverty Law Center lawyer, I might declare them a hate group and start burning their stores down.
Remember, abortion is a matter between a woman and her doctor. Or, a woman and her local convenience store or a woman and her internet purchases.
Maybe between her and her baby.
Would you say the same thing if slavery was the law of the land?
If those being enslaved or exiled are Christians or White males, yes.
Once again Newsom stands on what he perceives to be the moral high ground in the culture wars. But he argues against his cause by claiming restricting the abortion pill puts women’s lives at risk. Silly man, the abortion pill puts women’s lives at risk, albeit a small number; and it is fatal to the unborn child. From A Woman’s Choice (a pro-abortion article):
“Is the abortion pill safe and effective?
As with all things, there are risks. It is important to be aware of them.
The abortion pill is about 98% effective at ending a pregnancy (depending on how early it’s taken).10 But as we mentioned earlier, sometimes the pill won’t work and with all serious procedures, things can go wrong.
Here are some of the worst-case scenarios:
Serious side effects requiring medical intervention, including bacterial infection (which can be fatal), excessive bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and severe cramping.
Hemorrhage and infection are the leading cause of abortion-related disease and death from mifepristone.11
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received reports of 24 mifepristone-related deaths of women and 97 ectopic pregnancies since 2000, when the drug was approved. More than 750 women have been hospitalized, more than 400 women have experienced blood loss requiring transfusions, and 308 had infections requiring treatment.12
Fatal toxic shock is possible following chemical abortions with mifepristone and misoprostol.13
Allergic reaction causing anaphylactic shock.14
Again, these are rare complications, but very real. The rate of abortion-related ER visits following a medical abortion has risen dramatically in the last several years, so it is important to be aware of the risks. Abortions should never be administered without medical supervision.”
I will say one thing: Gavin Newsom is smart in an evil sort of way: he knows at present he is politically on the winning side on the abortion issue and this could propel him to seek the presidency–yes– by the blood of the unborn babies he could become President. He may be counting on it.
Gov. Newsom is extremely dyslexic, and has a great deal of trouble reading. He cannot use teleprompters for speeches, he has to memorize everything. I bet he cannot read your post, nor read directions on a prescription. He is not giving a State of the State speech this year, due to his extreme dyslexia and failure to read teleprompters.
how can Gav be SO sure about Walgreens,
when Californians are STILL trying to figure out
WHICH bathroom to use ???
I read in the news, that due to Gov. Newsom’s petty anger at Walgreen’s– the State of California is terminating a $54 million contract with Walgreen’s. The news article then went on to say, that Walgreen’s, under this ongoing contract, had been previously providing medications to California prison inmates.
$54 million is pocket change to a bohemoth like Walgreen’s.
They will make up the loss like all businesses do: Pass it on to the consumer, by raising prices elsewhere.
Wow– I just realized– California has just became the 21st state in which Walgreen’s will not dispense abortion Death Pills. Excellent!
DEERFIELD, Ill., March 06, 2023 – We want to be very clear about what our position has always been: Walgreens plans to dispense Mifepristone in any jurisdiction where it is legally permissible to do so. Once we are certified by the FDA, we will dispense this medication consistent with federal and state laws. Providing legally approved medications to patients is what pharmacies do, and is rooted in our commitment to the communities in which we operate.
Florida’s Attorney General won a victory on Tuesday, when a Federal Judge determined that the State of Florida can defund Planned Parenthood. Great!
Why are you not fighting against this! Why is not the Catholic Church fighting tooth & nail to uphold the right to life? How can the higher ups not stand-up for God – & fight to make the “right” changes.
I pray for Gods word to be but like many other Catholics am confused as to what the Catholic Church is doing to help fight this madness
The Church must stand for the aborted children and condemn Governor Newson and every Catholic, elected or lay.
Today, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office announced that Newsom just tested positive for COVID. His wife, Jennifer, tested negative. Newsome will self-isolate, and work remotely.
This is the second time in less than a year, that Newsom has tested positive for COVID. He is fully vaccinated, and has had two booster shots. Well, Gavin Newsom needs to recover from two things– COVID-19 and a life of sin and rebellion against God. He is in need of healing prayers for both!
