Fresno, California Mayor Jerry Dyer has vetoed a $1 million grant to the nation’s biggest abortion business.
The Fresno City Council voted 5-1 to pass a resolution earlier this month that would send taxpayer funds to the biggest abortion company in America, that kills over 330,000 babies in abortions every year. The Council made no recommendation to give a similar amount of money to a pregnancy center that actually helps pregnant women.
Dyer said he wanted a legitimate medical organization to receive the funds instead.
“I remain hopeful that the Council will reconsider accepting funds on behalf of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, and instead work to see that a health-related agency is identified as the local administrator of state funds,” he explained.
Now, the city council is threatening to override the mayor.

Great news! We need a good Mayor of San Francisco, exactly like him! We also need to start a trend in California, of Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn! Which brave, caring city will be the first one?
Why is the Left so intent on killing defenseless little babies? It is the ultimate in bullying.
Simple, Peggy. They are nihilists.
Why is the right so intent on telling lies about the left?
On behalf of those of us who live in the Fresno area, thank you Mayor Dyer.
God bless this man, a brave politician for once.
Sometimes it seems California is two vastly different states. One is the left coast, made up of leftist affluent coastal elites, their fellow travelers and useful idiots. These powerful and privileged control the state, and beyond. The other is the interior, where you still find many sane working- and middle-class citizens. Many of their public school teachers despise the politicization of the state’s teachers’ union. Many still believe in family and faith. Many still work in agriculture, energy, the trades or transportation. Even though it’s a decade old now, Stanford’s Victor Davis Hanson’s opinion still bears some truth.
To those elitists who decry “flyover country,” thanks be to God many there have respect for life and some common sense.
I have a friend whose wife is probably in her last year of life. She had a medical crisis two weeks ago. She needed a relatively simple procedure, waited 20 hours in the ER to finally be given an exam room as her hospital room because it was the only bed. Her husband had to sit on the portable toilet to stay with her. She was told it would be over a week before she would be able to have the procedure (nursing staff shortage). She finally transferred to a hospital 100 miles away, had the procedure and left the hospital the same day.
A few days later she was weak and in trouble, she was put in a hospital to wait for a bed to come open in a hospital 30 miles away.
Her husband says “America is a third world country.”
Actually, rural America is a third world country.
This is what happened with Trump. He was a wealthy, New York liberal who was shocked when he visited places that the presidential candidates don’t normally visit. And he listened. He came up with the slogan “Make America great again.”
The tv personalities did not like him and made fun of that slogan. Sunny Hostin, whose father is black and mother is Puerto Rican, reacted by saying “When was America ever great for my people?” Of course, they all live in New York which is now having a huge crime crisis (which is in the rural areas too but not nearly as bad.)
America is not a third world country by definition though.
That is just how they describe the lack of needed services.
We are blessed by God.
Bad decisions by local hospital administrators and the traveling nurse situation is what has caused it.
People have good health insurance and money but you can’t buy it if it isn’t there.
Just like baby formula
God bless America. God mend thy every flaw.
California is America’s toilet.
California, I think you owe toilets an apology.
They provide a sanitary and needed service in removing undesirable material, not spreading it around.
What does that make Newsom?
A straight flush.
Seth, How dare you assume he’s straight and cis-gendered? Our next president is a fluid flush.
I agree with the mayor.
PP just got a $275 million donation from MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos’ ex). Their donations have gone through the roof. They usually bring in over $200 million per year. This year will be a record setter for them.
Give your money somewhere it will actually help someone. And an organization that is under-funded.
Or if you are pro-choice, give to the women who choose life for their baby.
Or to a woman who is going to have an abortion she does not want because she feels like she has no choice.
Good man with courage. God bless him. So nice to see someone doing the right thing.
Yes, God bless and protect Mayor Jerry Dyer.
Not so fast with praise. Dyer is only too glad to allocate the funds elsewhere, i.e., to his own constituency. John Q. Taxpayer’s money shouldn’t be funding any medical organization.
I see your point, Hymie, we always need to know where our tax dollars are going, and if the taxes are truly necessary.
. . . or any private endeavor.
Two comments: The City Council overrode the veto. But, let’s rethink the idea that no tax money should go to any medical organization. In countries that use tax money to support the healthcare systems, the outcomes are almost always better than our private system. Our tax money already supports health programs in this country – think Medicare, think free covid test kits, think veterans’ hospitals, and community hospitals, think medical research, and on and on.
Nothing is free. Someone is always paying for it. BTW, my family does not get free COVID tests or anything else. Some of us still pay into medicare, and we all have insurance premiums and co payments. It is affordable for us until you start messing with it.
Where have we heard all this before? “You can keep your doctor if you like him”.
Tragically, the Fresno city council has decided that it wants to make it easier for people to kill babies, and it has overridden the mayor’s veto.
