The following comes from an October 9 Catholic News Agency article by Elise Harris:
A controversial working document for the Vatican’s synod on the family took a hard hit from numerous bishops who’ve called the text overly negative, unclear, and possibly inaccurate in its translations.
“While various elements of the (document) are admirable, we found much of the text to be flawed or inadequate,” says a new report from group “D” of the four English-speaking synod circles.
The document – officially called an Instrumentum Laboris – also fell short “especially in its theology, clarity, trust in the power of grace, its use of scripture and its tendency to see the world through overwhelmingly Western eyes,” the bishops said Friday.
Divided by language into 13 groups with around 20 members each, one small group is in German, four in English, three in Spanish, two in Italian and three in French. Groups were determined by both the language of participants and the requests of the synod fathers.
In their report, the English-speaking “D” group said that rather than beginning with the failures and challenges of the family, the document ought to begin “with hope,” since many families are already successfully living the Gospel’s message about marriage.
“If marriage is a vocation, which we believe it is, we can’t promote vocations by talking first about its problems.”
Also noted by the group was the lack of serious reflection on gender ideology, the role of men and fathers as well as women, the destructive nature of pornography, the misuse of technology and pastoral care for the differently-abled.
With the instrumentum’s presentation appearing “chaotic, without inherent logic,” both Pope Francis “and the people of the Church deserve a better text, one in which ideas are not lost in the confusion,” they said.
As the old saying goes “Garbage In – Garbage Out”
Totally agree! Or is it meant to be ambiguous?
It is good that there is a synod on the family, considering the breakdown of the family in U.S. and other countries. The family is under attack by all forms of the media and by government. The current economic problems also put additional stress on the family. Let’s hope that the orthodox bishops and cardinals prevail. Let’s pray the this synod doesn’t become another disaster, such as Vatican II.
Too late, it is Vatican 2.1 This synod has been disastrous from the get go.
While the working document may well be quite flawed, its shortcomings are being identified and decried. When bishops are demanding higher standards, I dare to have hope.
Bishops don’t know what each other is saying,
and they will NOT know what they are voting on in a final document due to the written language barrier – per Abp Chaput.

Fr. THOMAS ROSICA – the English language assistant to the Holy See Press Office at the Vatican, and English-language spokesperson at the Synod of Bishops in Rome, has been promoting homosexual lifestyle stuff to the English speaking press.
Then some voting participants of the Synod wonder why there is such an emphasis on homosexuality, etc. in the media.
ROSICA has not been merely translating and reporting – but creating news via his own opinions (and the opinions of his favorite Cardinals).
He should be fired.
Paul, please give us links to sites that have this information, otherwise it is slander.
This link might have something.

I loved Cardinal Napier’s answer. He hit the nail right on the head when he said, ” ‘Meet people where they are’ sounds nice,’ but is that what Jesus did? Didn’t he rather call them away from where they were?”
BobOne – if you are too lazy to look, you are committing a Capital Sin of Sloth. I expect an apology – you idiot.
“National Catholic Register” owned by EWTN, and Abp Chaput is on the Board.

” The archbishop said on Oct. 7 that the English-speaking bishops have ‘the additional problem of trying to deal with very serious issues, in languages we don’t clearly understand. “

Bob One if you actually knew anything about Rosica you would ,know this guy has promoting this gay nonsense for years. But as a liberal I am pretty sure you want the entire gay agenda, ie the complete Church approval on so called gay marriage and gay sex…
Sorry, Canisius, but I never heard of him until he was mentioned on this site. I will follow the links provided.
Fr. THOMAS ROSICA is the English language assistant to the Holy See Press Office at the Vatican, and English-language spokesperson at the Synod of Bishops in Rome.
He has been promoting homosexual lifestyle to the English speaking press every chance he gets – including redefining the Catholic “Family” to include “same-sex families”.
He tries to manipulate in order to condition the un-catechised.
ROSICA needs to be fired.
Actually he needs to defrocked and excommunicated..but asking for holy and faithful priests is a tall order when most them seem to have evil objectives covered by a Roman collar
Prove your libelous claims.
Paul, since you and I aren’t IN the synod, how can we make such allegations that Rosica is “creating news” ? And if he is “creating news”, how does that help him when the final synod docs come out? He’d have to craft an entire story line start to finish. And if he were prone to doing this, why would he even been hired in the first place?
Apparently Fr. FEDERICO LOMBARDI, director of the Holy See Press Office – speaks little or no English.
What a mess !
Paul, I have heard Fr. Lombardi speak often on TV from the Vatican. He is fully fluent in English, with a typical Italian accent. Not hard to understand at all.
Watch his lips. They do not sink with words. Dubbed.
Article like this are difficult to get your hands around. Some of the articles about the group reports complain about the content, but more seem to be directed at the poor use of the English language. People who are trained in Rome and learn English as a second language often learn a “high English” that is not the language of the common person in the English speaking world.
So are you implying that people who learn English as a second language in Rome learn better English than native speakers?
Do you actually think that textbook English is not understood by English speakers who are interested enough to read or watch the news?
I guess Cardinal Napier, being from South Africa, doesn’t understand “high English” either. LOL!
No, TVT, what I meant is that commonly used English is very different from academic English. We can all remember how hard it was to write good term papers compared to regular discourse. In any language, idioms, jargon, etc. get in the way of clear understanding. The placement of a comma can change the meaning of a phrase, a semi-colon permits one more thought in the same sentence. Another point, however, is that the reports of the working groups are just sort of mid term reports of where the discussions are going, not final reports, just working documents.
No YFC you disprove my claims….
Actually, its libel, because its written. Slander is spoken.
” lack of serious reflection on gender ideology.”
Note that in Academentia (like pathetic farces such as Santa Clara U) Gender in all its aspects Is an Ideology – directed at the Extermination of the hated ‘hetero-patriarchy’ and its pork byproduct un-goodness.
Few places exude as Virulent and Vicious a Hatred agains the Catholic Church and its Magisterium and Men = as the Womyn;’s / Legal Departments at places like SCU… where competition for Tenure usually depends on who acts out the most Venomous forms of Misandry.
Language barriers can be traversed readily; it is the content of the mind and heart, which will determine the worthiness of the content of the work.
Have you ever tried to communicate with 23 different language speaking persons at the same time? Have you ever read about the Tower of Babel in the bible?
Latin should be the universal language of the Church. And should be taught in ALL Seminaries throughout the world.
No Pope should switch official languages, because then all Popes can keep changing the official language to whatever they want – causing chaos and causing error.
Here is proof – Fr. THOMAS ROSICA’s daily dose of sodomite propaganda: regarding ” SAME-SEX FAMILIES ” – speaking in his own words – starting about 4:40 in the Video – \

.
There is no such thing as sodomite families within the Catholic Faith.
Homosexual Acts are Mortal Sins.
