California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday nominated the openly homosexual Martin Jenkins, a self-professed “practicing Catholic,” to California’s Supreme Court.
A Democrat, Jenkins had previously served as the Judicial Appointments Secretary to the governor since 2019. The press release by the governor’s office explicitly pointed out that Jenkins would be the “first openly gay” man to serve on the state’s highest court.
Jenkins was praised strongly by supporters of homosexuality and gender ideology, who welcomed the news as a key step in advancing their agenda.
State Sen. Scott Wiener and Assemblyman Todd Gloria of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus issued a statement of support, saying, “The LGBTQ community is dramatically under-represented in the judiciary, and particularly so at the appellate level … This appointment is a major step toward a judiciary that represents the entire community.”
Their thoughts were echoed by Rick Zbur, executive director for the homosexual lobby group Equality California. He stated that “Governor Newsom’s appointment of California’s first openly gay supreme court justice is a monumental step forward for the LGBTQ+ community and for our entire state.” Jenkins “embodies the values of our great state,” he added.
Jenkins said he views his new position as an opportunity to “shine a light on the possibilities for people who look like me or have the same orientation as I do.”
An active homosexual, Jenkins maintains that he is a life-long “practicing Catholic.” A native of San Francisco, he attended the Jesuit-run Santa Clara university. In an interview with pro-LGBTQ magazine The Advocate, he said, “I’ve been a practicing Catholic all my life, and I truly believe in the God of love and that God loves me as I am now.”
The above comes from an Oct. 7 story on LifeSiteNews.
Notice the coverage is all about his personal life with a swirl of race, religion and gender issues. Where is the discussion of his judicial qualification, philosophy, and temperament? Talk about a token appointment! He hits all the far left identity buttons and that is all they care about. Scrutiny of his self proclaimed Catholicism will be in a whole different universe from Amy Coney Barrett’s. He will slither through with nary an objection, she will be attacked just for breathing.
What “coverage” are you talking about, Kristin? You seem to be describing Cal-Catholic’s article, which deliberately fixates on the man’s sexual orientation. Did you read the linked governor’s press release and the linked SF Chronicle article? Both of those raise issues beyond his personal life. As to comparing the confirmation process of Amy Coney Barrett to that of Judge Jenkins, the reality is that U.S. Supreme Court justices are appointed for life with confirmation by the U.S. Senate, but California Supreme Court justices are appointed for 12 year terms with confirmation by a three person panel, and Judge Jenkins must also stand for a confirmation by statewide public vote at the next California gubernatorial election in 2022. Clearly, Judge Jenkins will be subject to many unqualified objections such as your own.
Patricia, this site was not the only one to “fixate” on race and sexual orientation. For your edification, take a look at the Los Angeles Times, Sacramento Bee, Law.com, The Daily Journal, and for a big slice of race/gay coverage, CBS Bay Area affiliate KPIX. Even Gov Gavin’s press release couldn’t help going right to the race/gay information as the most important aspect of the nomination.
The point is that during the confirmation process, Judge ACB’s Catholicism will get much flack while Jenkins, a self proclaimed Catholic who lives in a continuing state of mortal sin according to Church teaching, will not. And yes, I object!
Kristin, saying that Martin Jenkins lives in a continuing state of mortal sin is rash judgement which is a sin. Stop assuming the worst. You don’t know what he is doing. There are a lot of gay Catholics who live the Church’s teaching on chastity.
He admits to being an openly gay man in a homosexual relationship and not ruling out same sex so-called marriage. That is living in a continual state of mortal sin, and please God, he will repent and extricate himself from it. No reason to cling to naivete, the man’s actions not only speak for themselves, they scream.
An “active” homosexual implies what exactly?
Of course we know what he is doing.
He said so.
Another fruit of the consecrations and reconsecrations? What a year it has been in Divine Providence’s management of the universe! The power of prayer!
Must be hard being you! By posting on a Catholic site you are either looking for spiritual encouragement or trying to diminish the faith of readers. Which is it Kev, our patience is running out.
Anon – Forget about Kevin T and his postings. I said on another post that he is a vending machine catholic. He expects to put his nickel (prayer) in to the machine (God) and get his candy bar (what ever he is praying for at the moment). As Flannery O’Connor so correctly put it, “People expect religion to be a big comforting blanket when in fact it’s the Cross”.
Lots of folks have replied to him with encouragment which is why he keeps coming back.
Scripture says over and over again that God will save his people, that we can trust him, that he actively helps. Evidence in our lifetimes is that God is doing nothing to help. Everything is going to pot and to rot, including within the Church. I can’t do what God doesn’t make it possible to do, and I have served the Lord loyally and faithfully and courageously at risk to my career, my personal security and welfare, and I’m just about fed up with everything in life going against what the Church is supposed to stand for and faithful Christians suffering to no good end. The final straw will be Biden winning the election and Democrats in full control of Congress. Then you’ll see how the left ravages the country and persecutes Christians. Where will God be then? The bishops are worthless. I’m tired of people saying God’s there but you just can’t sense him. Sorry. Show me proof, show me how and when and where prayer has made a difference. Because it’s looking like everything that’s happening over the past twenty years in the Church and in the world is showing Christianity to be hollow, not hallow.
Kev, find another place to post your hatred of God.
Kevin, I share your frustration with the lack leadership by our Church hierarchy, but don’t let it affect your faith in God. They persecuted Jesus and He said that they will persecute us as well. God’s ways are not our ways. Don’t be like those that stood at the foot of the cross “ and said, ‘So you would destroy the Temple and in three days rebuild it! Then save yourself if you are God’s son and come down from the cross” . Don’t think of leaving Jesus because of Judas.
Kevin,
You may be depressed and frustrated.
But there is also a stage of prayer, The Dark Night, in which a person feels abandoned by God and powerless to improve that relationship.
You seem very attached to God and the Church by your repeated questionings and by your seeing in the current temporal events, God’s absence. Many would just walk away.
Many Saints, like St Therese, St Mother Teresa experienced doubts at a stage of their prayer life.
Pray to God for Faith, Perseverance, and Light.. Read about the dark Night of the Soul.
Use your doubts and questions as a way to focus on God and progress to Him.
Kevin T., you sound like “I Only Want to Say” from Jesus Christ Superstar. Remember, not a sparrow falls to the ground without your heavenly Father’s consent.
You just sound so heartbroken. I am glad that you explained a little more about the pain that is driving your posts. I think that you are in a crucible. It is to purify you and then, the world is a little purer. So your prayer is being answered
It really was hard to tell whether your posts were being driven by something human or demonic. These times in our faith lives are intense. God has a purpose and a plan.
It can feel lonely when you think you are giving so much and others are falling down on the job.
Do you know how to do the prayer of silence? Interior silence lets God speak.
No suffering is wasted if united with the suffering of Jesus on the Cross. It then has infinite value.
God bless you. May He give you a glimpse of Paradise. God’s goal is to get you to Heaven. Just concentrate on that. There is nothing the Left or the Bishops or the devil can do to prevent that. Only you can prevent that. Do what you know you have to do to go to Heaven.
.
“Show me proof, show me how and when and where prayer has made a difference.”
“Almighty and most merciful Father, we humbly beseech Thee, of Thy great goodness, to restrain these immoderate rains with which we have had to contend. Grant us fair weather for Battle. Graciously hearken to us as soldiers who call upon Thee that, armed with Thy power, we may advance from victory to victory, and crush the oppression and wickedness of our enemies and establish Thy justice among men and nations.” George S. Patton and US Third Army Battle of the Bulge. 1944
There. I’ve provided you with a clear example of an answered prayer. Happy now? No?
Last 20 years? Roman persecution?, Cristeros War, the Vendee? Who promised you that your country or civilization was going to triumph or even your parish? It’s about your soul and your family’s souls that are at risk. God is not mocked. Nor are any of us.
Kevin, God does save. I was in the meat department of a grocery store during the 1989 earthquake. I, a native Californian, had never been afraid of earthquakes, but that day the store shook so badly merchandise was being thrown from shelves. A woman and I grabbed each others hands to steady ourselves and were knocked to our knees. All I could do was keep saying “Jesus, Jesus” and then felt power going through our hands, and somehow I knew things would be all right. Not a person in the store was seriously harmed.
God does love him just as he is now, as He does everyone. Thanks be to God that He loves us enough to send His Son to die and rise for us and deliver us from our sins, which lead to our death and hell otherwise. God loves us so much that He doesn’t want us to remain in sin.
Should we be surprised at another Jesuit-educated “practicing Catholic” publicly proclaiming sin as virtue?
In a graduate school class at Santa Clara University, one student asked the Jesuit priest teacher why she heard a lot about a “Jesuit education” at SCU, but nothing about a “Catholic education.” The priest scornfully replied, “This isn’t Steubenville!”
(And, no disrespect is meant to the Jesuits as such. I’ve had a Jesuit spiritual director and some Jesuit friends over the years. St. Ignatius of Loyola, pray for your men!)
If you’re looking for Catholic schools that adhere to the faith of the Church, check out The Newman Guide from The Cardinal Newman Society.
Pray for all “practicing Catholics,” especially those in or seeking offices of power and influence.
God always loves but also calls sinners to repent. Jenkins, an active homosexual, is refusing God’s command and willfully denies he is even sinning. Given judicial authority, who knows what sinful things he will endorse or overlook.
Too bad he didn’t have the good fortune to attend a Catholic college, instead of a Jesuit college.
So was he chosen because he was the best qualified person for the position, or was he chosen because Newsom wanted to pander to a given group? I have no problem if he was the most qualified, but that is not usually how things are done in California.
As a “practicing Catholic” will he go through the same crucible as Amy Coney Barrett? Will a bishop challenge Martin Jenkins on the incompatibility of being an active homosexual and a practicing Catholic?
Regarding pandering, it seems obvious from Newsom’s press release. See below. The judge’s sexual orientation and race would not have to be mentioned were he nominated solely on the basis of his qualifications. Contrast Newsom’s statement with that of Trump announcing the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett. Trump did not indicate her gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. She was nominated based upon her qualifications.
Newson stated,
“He would be the first openly gay California Supreme Court justice and only the third African American man ever to serve on the state’s highest court. It has been 29 years since an African American man has served on the California Supreme Court.” And, of course, Newsom pushed the “dissenting Catholics are good” card by quoting a Jesuit priest educator who is hip and calls Judge Jenkins by a nickname (isn’t that cool?):
“I have the highest respect and the deepest admiration for Justice Marty Jenkins,” said Rev. Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J., President of the University of San Francisco. “His Jesuit education at both Santa Clara University and the University of San Francisco afforded him the intellectual skills and the strength of character to live a life of service and leadership.”
Your claim that “Trump did not indicate her gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. She was nominated based upon her qualifications” is false and absurd. The reality is the opposite. “I will be putting forth a nominee next week. It will be a woman,” Trump said. “I think it should be a woman because I actually like women much more than men.” And, “Because I am pro-life, and I will be appointing pro-life judges,” said Trump. Being “pro-life” is not a legal qualification, and both Trump and Mrs. Barrett have made her marriage and children, and thus her sexual orientation, into matters of public spectacle. Her race is also as obvious as her face, and her religion has been a matter of public record for years already. The notion that she was appointed solely based on her legal qualifications is ridiculous. No Supreme Court justice has ever been appointed based solely on his/her legal qualifications.
Catholics and others of good will should want pro life judges, no apology. Remember Biden’s only criteria for VP was it must be a woman. Normal reason, just sexism.
Sotomayor and Kagan were nominated because they are presumably female. How outraged were you with Obama for that? Solely nominated for their legal qualifications, a big fat no. Patricia, you are triggered by straight white Catholic mothers and must pray for deliverance from your prejudice.
Actually, I don’t have that prejudice. I also don’t believe judges should be appointed solely based on their legal qualifications, and Amy Coney Barrett was also not appointed based solely on her legal qualifications. Likewise, Sotomayor and Kagan were not appointed solely because they’re female.
Patricia, Here is the link to Trump’s actual remarks introducing Mrs. Barrett, in contrast to Newsom’s official remarks about Jenkins:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-announcing-nominee-associate-justice-supreme-court-united-states/
And, she did not declare herself heterosexual nor did the President. If you believe in natural law, then, your inference is understandable.
But, if you believe in so-called same-sex “marriage” and adoption by such couples (which the Church teaches is a form of child abuse, intentionally depriving a child of a father or a mother), then, having children is not limited to heterosexual couples. And, again, she is not declaring she’s heterosexual nor are those defending her nomination. Nor is Trump touting the fact that she is “white.” It’s obvious she is “white,” just as it’s obvious that Jenkins is “black.” Why did the Governor feel compelled to note Jenkin’s race (and sexual orientation)?
Actually, in the minds of a huge proportion of the public, Trump is obviously if not deliberately announcing her gender and heterosexuality. Neither Trump nor Mrs. Barrett need to say the word “heterosexual” to do that. From the article you provided, “She is a woman […] We’re also joined by Amy’s husband, Jesse — thank you, Jesse, very much — and their seven beautiful children.” To most everyone, that clearly says she chose to marry a man, not a woman, and as anyone who cares to know knows, she didn’t simply adopt all those children, nor does she simply possess (“have”) them but she actually gave birth to many of them, following sexual procreation with her husband. The public knows her as the “dogma lives loudly in you” and “handmaid” woman, the woman Trump deliberately chose to satisfy his conservative values base to overturn Roe v Wade, as he promised to do. She was not chosen solely based on her legal qualifications. As to your question of why the governor noted Jenkin’s race and sexual orientation, the answer is clearly and explicitly provided in the governor’s press release, because it’s part of “the Newsom Administration’s efforts to build a judiciary that reflects the vibrance and diversity of California.” He makes his plan known and that he is carrying it out. Trump has done likewise.
Patricial, really “in the minds of a huge proportion of the public”?!
“In the minds of a huge proportion of the public” killing unborn babies is okay, the Constitution is a vague idea, two people of the same sex can “marry,” there might be more than two genders, BLM is not a Marxist organization, etc.
Just because something is in your mind, that doesn’t make it real.
And, I see, when your guy, Newsom, brings up race and sexual orientation, he’s doing it for a good reason. When Orange Man Bad brings up the very same things, it’s because he’s evil.
Your mental and ethical gymnastics make your obvious bias transparent.
Curious, look again. I didn’t assign your “good”, “bad” and “evil” labels to Newsom’s and Trump’s reasons or actions. Those are your labels and your gymnastics, not mine. As to what I said rather than what you imagined, it’s an objective fact that Trump literally announced Amy Coney Barrett’s gender/sex, and it’s clearly a reasonable view that he obviously announced her heterosexuality when he announced the fact of her marriage to a man and their bounty of children. The public is not out of touch with reality to see that.
Was he professionally well qualified? If no, he should be rejected.. If yes, then, in my humble opinion, neither his skin color nor his sexual orientation should matter. .
His sexual orientation does matter.
The homosexual inclination is “intrinsically disordered” as is stated in the the Roman Catholic Catechism.
This man will allow this to influence not only issues related to sexual orientation , but to all “Life” issues. Homosexuals are notoriously pro-Abortion and pro-Euthanasia and atheistic.
The end result of acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle is death. Plain and simple.
Not a pretty message, I know, but it is the truth.
You are right, all around.
Actually, the Church does not teach that homosexual persons are more inclined to make poor judgments than heterosexual persons. Heterosexual persons are also disordered and inclined to sin, including in regard to “issues related to sexual orientation” and “life” issues. Indeed, every woman who has sought an abortion has done so after heterosexual intercourse, and the vast majority of people who support abortion and euthanasia are heterosexual. I’d bet that more than 99% of judges who’ve ruled in favor of abortion or euthanasia have been heterosexual.
Common sense absolutely shows that the disordered nature of homosexuality inclines those in it’s snares do make bad judgements. Their vision is clouded and that applies also to homosexual persons who might be judges. Your partiality to homosexual apologetics has overtaken your ability to admit this Patricia.
Kristin, the Church teaches that the disordered nature of mankind inclines everyone, heterosexual or homosexual, to make bad judgements. The Church does not teach that homosexual persons are more inclined to make bad judgements than heterosexual persons. If you imagine any partiality in that, that’s your clouded vision.
Wrong Patrica, homosexuality is disordered.
Actually it is evident that a homosexual person who is engaging in sodomy has a disordered view of his sexuality and is inclined to make more poor judgements than a heterosexual person because of his acceptance of sodomy. A heterosexual person even though he might be engaging in sin does not have a confused sexual orientation which when acted upon is considered an abomination. His elevation only continues the culture of death agenda. And of course, those 99% of judges who are heterosexual (chances are because of the small 3% homosexual population) are indeed disordered about the life issue but what does that have to do with same gender confusion and this man? I do object to someone who is on the court and rules in favor of death. And that’s why we don’t need more confusion.
Anonymous are you referring to Clinton?
Yes, it is important to know what the Church teaches and for you Patricia, to embrace the fullness of her teachings. Realize that those overtaken by mortal sin are easy prey for the evil one, and active homosexuals are in this category. That’s 20/20 vision.
Adulterers are in the category, too, yet you promote one of the countries most notorious adulterers to hold the highest office in the land.
If he is a practicing Catholic, then, even though he is in a loving relationship, he will not be breaking the moral law of the Church and the Lord. He came out late in life and he is still walking through this. I think the state did him a disservice by calling him openly gay. His story is so much more nuanced than that…and who’s business is it anyway? See mike m wondering if he is qualified? I hope they asked him before they did that to him.
Wrong Wrong Wrong! Engaging in homosexual acts is condemned, period, and those involved in such behavior are indeed breaking moral law. It’s very clear in the bible and modern day sentiment does not change that, “even though he is in a loving relationship”. Anonymous, you have been poisoned by the false wisdom of the age.
A loving relationship does not mean a sexual relationship. I do not know him but as Catholics we are supposed to think the best of others.
You are intimating that it is better he not be in a sexual relationship with another man. That’s true, and is a Catholic response to mortal sin because we Catholics know it is better to stay out of it!
Kristin, I am not intimating. Someone posted a comment below that he and his partner are planning to move in together. I would advise him to avoid sin and all semblance of sin. But he did not consult with me. Probably because he does not know I exist and it is none of my business. However, I would say not that it is better that he not be in a sexual relationship with a man but that it is imperative that he not be in a sexual relationship with anyone.
I hope his pastor is helping him. I hope he goes to confession. There is a difference between a practicing Catholic and a faithful Catholic sometimes. Sometimes people say they are practicing Catholics just because they go to Mass. And even a faithful Catholic can fall for temptation. Let’s pray for him and all who may need our prayers to avoid mortal sin and its near occasions.
I’m simply asking a neutral question: Is he qualified? I am in no way suggesting the answer either way. I dont know and am not qualified to judge.
“Qualified” according to whom and for what? Republican Governor George Deukmejian believed he was qualified when he appointed him as a judge in 1989. Republican Governor Pete Wilson also believed he was qualified when he promoted Judge Jenkins in 1992. President Bill Clinton and the U.S. Senate also believed he was qualified when Judge Jenkins was appointed and confirmed as a federal judge in 1997. And in 2007, Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also believed he was qualified when Judge Jenkins was appointed (and confirmed) to the California Court of Appeals. Apparently, Governor Newsom also believes him to be qualified, this time to be a California Supreme Court justice. I suspect the California bar will agree as will the confirmation panel and the voters.
He hadn’t come out of a homosexual at first. People can be deceived. Pete Wilson was a RINO, worse than a democrat sometimes. As for the rest they all support death as a solution to everything. Pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-assisted suicide. The California bar is a joke and only furthers the culture of death.
If he’s considering gay “marriage,” it doesn’t seem chastity is a high priority. From the LA Times:
He began coming out as gay during the last four to five years, he said during an interview Tuesday, and found the experience invigorating. He fell in love with his partner, real estate broker Sydney Shand, two years ago.
“It was the first time I fell in love and was willing to go ahead and embrace that emotion and return it without sabotaging it,” said Jenkins, who was educated by Jesuits in college and law school.
He and Shand, who lives in Southern California, have bought a home in Los Angeles County and will move there once Jenkins’ house in the East Bay sells.
Asked if he planned to marry, Jenkins laughed and said: “First step at a time.”
“I am a lifelong Democrat, that is what I am,” he said.
In fact, he said, his mentor has been retired U.S. District Judge Thelton Henderson, a renowned liberal and Carter appointee who is also Black and who served in San Francisco.
Actually, under the law, there is no sexual requirement in a civil marriage, which means persons in a civil marriage can be totally chaste, and many are.
That’s true whether it’s Joseph and Mary, or Judge Jenkins and his partner, or whether the partners are Democrat or Republican, black, white or whatever. There’s also no requirement of any sex act in “coming out as gay”, being gay, “falling in love”, embracing love or returning it.
Don’t you agree that the Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph have a unique relationship?
To compare them to Mr.s Jenkins and Shand?!
Do you honestly think that’s the case?
All Christians striving for holiness pursue chastity and when talking about sexuality are willing to say that, especially since his possible gay “marriage” has been made public. Why doesn’t he simply, honestly say that, if that’s the case?
Are you one of those who believes men who tell women that they read pornographic magazines for the articles, not the photos?
(It is theoretically possible you know.)
Curious, you ask “why doesn’t he simply, honestly say that, if that’s the case.” Why should he? You think he’s supposed to tell you what he does not do in his private life? Look, I know for a fact that there are more than a few older same-sex couples who consider getting “married” and who are without sexual desire for one another, same as there are also more than a few older opposite-sex couples who consider getting married (or perhaps are already married) without sexual desire for one another. It’s not unique.
Please don’t compare a man in a disordered gender confused relationship with Mary and Joseph. It’s insulting. And if he’s chaste than he shouldn’t be bragging about his homosexuality and his label as an “active homosexual”.
So right, Ronnie.
One of the great sins of homosexuality is the sin of “Pride”.
It is a deadly sin.
This man is obviously proud of his disordered sexual inclinations. Otherwise he would have kept his mouth shut and lived his life, one of quiet celibacy.
OK Patricia, you go ahead pretending and defending homosexual relationships as pure and praiseworthy. Maybe you will come to truth, but in the meantime, expect your faulty and purposely misleading apologetics to get rightly trashed.
The Jesuit dogma lives loudly within him.
Hymie, I know what you mean, but there are some good Jesuits. Fr. Joseph Fessio and Fr. Mitch Pacwa come to mind, along with the late Fr. John Hardon. May he rest in peace. Also, my life was changed to be strongly pro life by a book, “Abortion the Silent Holocaust”, written by the Jesuit Fr. John Powell, may he, too, rest in peace.
Just thought I would encourage some of the good ones who are still “fighting the good fight”.
The Justice is a graduate of the City College of SF, BA from Santa Clara and a JD from USF with honors. He has been a District Judge in Alameda County, A Judge on the CA Court of Appeals, and a Federal District Judge by consent of the US Senate. All of this could have been looked up before the above comments wondered if he was qualified. His appointments were made by Republicans and Democrats.
Didn’t he just come out as a Homosexual? Again people can be deceived. And now it seems he is arrogant enough to claim he is a “practicing Catholic” while he promotes same-gender confusion.
Ronnie, you are the one who is deceived if you think he can’t be a practicing Catholic and admit he’s attracted to men. Who misled you into thinking a practicing Catholic can’t admit to being attracted to men?
A practicing Catholic doesn’t brag about coming out and agree with the label an “active homosexual” does he. Being attracted to men is not the sin the active part is. If he is celibate why brag about his partner and being in a loving relationship. And let’s not forget the LGBTQ movement who believe in and promote same-sex disorders relationship support him 100%. If he’s a practicing Catholic why hasn’t “Courage” come out in his defense?
Ronnie, the Church teaches that practicing Catholics are imperfect and too often sin. For example, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2343 (“Chastity has laws of growth which progress through stages marked by imperfection and too often by sin. Man . . . day by day builds himself up through his many free decisions; and so he knows, loves, and accomplishes moral good by stages of growth.”) As to the label “an active homosexual”, that is yours and that of the author of the linked Lifesite article, and is not “agreed with” by Judge Jenkins in any of the linked articles. Such a label was also denounced by Cardinal Ratzinger and the CDF: “The human person, made in the image and likeness of God, can hardly be adequately described by a reductionist reference to his or her sexual orientation. […] Today, the Church provides a badly needed context for the care of the human person when she refuses to consider the person as ‘a heterosexual’ or ‘a homosexual’.” Nevertheless, perhaps Judge Jenkins would agree with the label in the sense of a same-sex attracted person “active in his Oakland community and his faith” as used in the governor’s press release. Indeed, there are countless ways a homosexual person can be active. As another example, perhaps he jogs. As to your opinion that he’s “bragging”, that’s what it is: your opinion. Likewise, the “LGBTQ movement” that you speak of is a concept in your head. As whether its members “support him 100%”, I suspect a sizable percentage of the members of your “LGBTQ movement” have never even heard of him and that many, perhaps mostly Republican members, do not “support him 100%”. As to your question about Courage, a Courage press release in defense of a particular person has never been the Church’s standard for deciding who is or is not a “practicing Catholic”.
He brags about himself as a “practicing Catholic” and talks about considering same-sex disordered marriage and moving into a new home with this man what else can you think about his lifestyle. His words: “And when I was finally able to be authentic about who I was, he showed up like a miracle. I fell in love for the first time late in life. I denied myself for so long. And now I’m happy.” And the LGBTQ and gender identity movement did come out strongly for him. As for Courage or any other organization which embraces chastity perhaps it was up to him to mention it but instead his words above. Like him I believe many are confused by his deception.
Ronnie, he stated “I’ve been a practicing Catholic all my life” and you call it bragging. That’s your opinion, a reflection of yourself. As to your claim that he “talks about considering” marriage, the LA Times reported that he laughed at it and shut down such talk: “Asked if he planned to marry, Jenkins laughed and said: ‘First step at a time.'” As to “moving into a new home with this man and what else can you think about his lifestyle,” I don’t see or fantasize any “lifestyle”. Judge Jenkins is a senior citizen and perhaps “this man” will help him with the chores of senior living and Judge Jenkins will have a friend to talk to and care for. And if he “loves” him, that’s good. There is an elderly same-sex Catholic couple very much like them living near me. As to your claim that “the LGBTQ and gender identity movement did come out strongly for him,” you are conflating the few self-anointed individuals and groups named in the article with the movement you speak of. Those people are not the movement and they have no particular authority to speak for the movement. Apparently, the general public is now behind the movement, and I expect the voters in 2022 will confirm Judge Jenkins, and for most, that may be the first time they’ve ever heard his name.
Give it up Patricia. Your attempt to make homosexual attraction and activity into something neutral or normal is rubbish. You can’t twist lies into truth. Put down your rainbow flag.
I agree with Kristin, give it up Patricia. In one sentence you proclaim that he is a practicing Catholic even though he identifies himself as coming out as a homosexual, being in a loving relationship and moving in together, and perhaps gay disordered marriage. And by the way, the general public was forced to accept sodomy but when the voters had their say, they said no. Again, why didn’t he say he was celibate? Or practicing chastity? Because he would be rejected by the looney Left or because he rejects it himself. And I remember once reading about a couple who had a conversion and left that lifestyle and they were adamant about rejecting the gay label and they promoted abstinence. He did neither.
The Catholic Church teaches that a homosexual inclination is disordered but it is not, of itself, a sin. Homosexual sexual activity is always sinful.
Rash judgement is also a sin. As is gossip.
In heterosexual unions, the proper order is meeting, dating, falling in love, engagement, marriage, sex, living together, children. So there is a loving relationship for some time before there is a sexual relationship.
Ronnie, in no sentence do I “proclaim he is a practicing catholic” and in no sentence do I proclaim he’s not a practicing Catholic. According to the article, he stated “I’ve been a practicing Catholic all my life.” That’s his statement which you apparently interpreted as him “bragging”. As to your questions, “why didn’t he say he was celibate? Or practicing chastity?”, I remind that in Catholic teaching “celibate’ means not married, which he apparently is. And as to whether he’s “practicing chastity,” he’s already said “I’ve been a practicing Catholic all my life” and I refer you again to the Church’s teaching: “Chastity has laws of growth which progress through stages marked by imperfection and too often by sin. Man . . . day by day builds himself up through his many free decisions; and so he knows, loves, and accomplishes moral good by stages of growth.” (CCC#2343)
Patricia’s long winded post does not and cannot not make homosexual activity licit or same sex attraction psychology healthy. Try as this one may, the disordered nature of homosexual relations will never be approved by the Church. There are always those willing to do the devil’s bidding, that it is done on a Catholic site is just brazen.
Kristin, again I’m so sad for you that you have stooped to bearing false witness. Nowhere do I “try” to “make homosexual activity licit or same sex attraction psychology [sic] healthy” or “approved by the Church” as you falsely claim. I do agree with you, however, that “there are always those willing to do the devil’s bidding, that it is done on a Catholic site is just brazen,” as you have done exactly that in your post. You should resist the temptation. I’m happy to forgive you, but I will remind that the Church teaches that “Every offense committed against justice and truth entails the duty of reparation, even if its author has been forgiven.” (CCC#2487)
Who is doing the “devil’s bidding”? Don’t you just love it when people call good evil and evil good. And isn’t it the truth that the devil is very good at quoting the Scriptures. Patricia is very confused as is the Judge.
memo to Guv Grievous Nuisance:
you will have to do more than a
black, catholic homosexual
Jenkins alma mater, santa clara invited a
speaker a few years back who contended
that our dear Lord and Savior was an hermaphrodite
Guv, you gotta give us an hermaphrodite, of color who
is a “practicing catholic” to get us worked up – try harder
Hamilton, how about a white homophobe racist who calls himself/herself Christian?
Homophobic is an irrational fear of homosexuals. Most decent people have a “rational” fear and they are 100% right. The homosexual propagandists are already in the schools, churches, government, corporations, etc. And they are coming for your kids if they don’t have them already. As for racist, maybe all those white liberals who crucified Justice Thomas and other Black conservative who dare to think for themselves, qualifies as racists. And don’t you just love it that in one of the most liberal cities NYC more Black children are killed in the abortion clinics than are born alive. I’d say that’s racist.
Patricia, “gay” is not a designation used by the Church. It is a slang word that minimizes the grave nature of homosexual behavior and attraction. Those who use it have adopted the speech and mindset of militant activists. The Church speaks of homosexual and same sex attracted, expressions that are precise and respectful.
Well, something like 95% of people use the “slang” word “gay”, and I don’t really think you can call 95% of people have the mindset of “militant activists.”.
Kristin, you are once again wrong. In her daily mission, the Church “speaks every language, understands and embraces all tongues in charity, and thus overcomes the dispersion of Babel” (Ad gentes, n. 4) That includes use of the word “gay” and who knows what all else. Even the Pope uses that word or its equivalent in the language he speaks. The Church does not dictate the English language. The Church speaks the English language. And thus, according to you, the Bride of Christ has “adopted the speech and mindset of militant activists”? Really? Obviously, if you don’t want to use the word “gay”, that’s your choice. As to your claim that the expression “same-sex attracted” is “precise”, it in fact is not precise, as it fails, for example, to specify the manner and scope of attraction as to whether it’s emotional, romantic, sexual, friendship or whatever.
Kristin, this was an issue 20 years ago. It no longer is, except for a few. Some people refuse to use the word gay for various reasons. The “speech and the mindset of militant activists” has become mainstreamed, due to GLAAD media training.
No, Anonymous, the Church does not use the term “gay” in her teaching capacity. While some prelates might, they are not in keeping with Church authority. The Church has not accepted cultural indoctrination from homosexualist groups even if it has become mainstream.
Kristin, clearly your claim that the Church does not use the word “gay” in her teaching capacity cannot be a claim that the Church validly makes in her teaching capacity. It would be self-refuting. If, for example, a particular set of written historical teaching documents did not use the word “gay”, then that is the case for that particular historical set, but the Church’s teaching “capacity” is not that limited. The Church’s teaching capacity is broad and she “speaks every language, understands and embraces all tongues in charity, and thus overcomes the dispersion of Babel.” (Ad gentes, n. 4)
Patricia, slang for homosexual inclination is not used by the Church, in any language. Your Babel reference does not hold up since this is not an issue of which tongue is spoken but rather, respectful wording not influenced by modern cultural norms.
Kristin, “gay” has become the preeminent (you love that word?), mainstream, respectful word for homosexual in the English language. And the Church uses it. And “modern cultural norms” influence which words are considered respectful… and respectful people respect that fact.
Quite simply put, so called homosexual marriage is actually an apostasy since it goes against everything the Old and New Testament and the catechism teaches about marriage. We cannot change God’s natural laws and not suffer the bad consequences. All the so called LGBT or whatever community does is to confirm each other in sin (I’m okay, you’re okay, anything you do is okay nonsense.)

Thank you for sharing that. According to the article, “that is what we do in Courage: We form loving, supportive and authentic friendships with [other same-sex attracted persons], and we grow through them.” Perhaps that is what Judge Jenkins and the man he loves are doing.
America Magazine, homosexual apologists? I did read the article and keep thinking why does the writer still identify himself by his orientation/behavior. I’m afraid healing will be near impossible unless you drop the label that you are trying to reject unless you state that you are a “former” homosexual. It is not innate, nor do I think it’s a choice. It’s like an alcoholic when he/she crosses the line into addiction Unless you turn your life over to God completely you cannot recover fully. Time will tell what his real agenda is. If his statements are a clue then my guess is it won’t be long.
Here’s a clue from Courage. The man describes/identifies himself as “same-sex attracted” exactly as Courage teaches in Courage’s own self-description/identification as “The worldwide outreach helping same-sex attracted people find the Courage to be chaste.”
My final word is I sincerely hope you find peace. Time will tell whether his identification as homosexual (gay) and a practicing Catholic is not contradictory and whether in his new position he uses it for good or to promote sodomy.
Our racialist Catholic governor is again in the news!
“The first Black commissioner in the 91-year history of the California Highway Patrol is retiring, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday, and he will be replaced with the first woman to hold the post — a veteran officer who also is Black.”
Can’t an announcement of the name of the best qualified HIghway Patrol officer be made?
But, wait, the new commish is a “twofer” (“two for the price of one”). Newsom gets credit for appointing a woman and a Black.
He was hoping she was a left-handed lesbian Republican in order to get credit for appointing all those “minorities” as well.
Maybe he’ll resign his office to virtue signal how seriously he takes his white privilege.
