On Friday and Saturday August 9-10, Pro-Lifers of the Mystical Rose will be hosting the first ever pro-life youth conference in San Francisco. The Pro-Life Youth Conference NorCal will be held at the event center of San Francisco’s Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption.

Speakers will include representatives from Live Action, members of the Sisters of Life, pro-life hero Walter Hoye, Joe Langfeld from Human Life Alliance, testimonials from Stacey Massey of Abortion Recovery International, and Patricia Sandoval. Event organizers hope to attract 500 pro-life youth from all over California. A number of parishes have committed to bring buses with their young people, and some San Francisco parishes will be providing accommodation to out-of town pilgrims.

The event page of Pro-Lifers of the Mystical Rose says the purpose of the conference is  “…to educate over 500 youth on Abortion, Contraception, and Abstinence issues; and to empower them to take an active stand in our world.

Pro-Lifers of the Mystical Rose was founded by college student Maria Lewis. Lewis’ biographical page on the Mystical Rose website states, in part “Maria Lewis, the oldest of six children, from Catholic Asian-Indian immigrants Felba and Walter Lewis, was born and raised to boldly live out her Faith and to stand up for Life, God, and Family. At an early age, Lewis felt a calling to take a public stand against the challenges that Catholics face in our present day—the injustices to the human person, the threats against family and marriage, and the violations of an individual’s God-given rights. After prayer, consultation with priests, and her parent’s support, Lewis founded Pro-Lifers of the Mystical Rose in 2011. Today, this youth-led organization features members throughout Northern California, all working towards educating the youth and informing the public on the stance we must take as Catholics.”

Despite her young age, Lewis has already been a featured speaker at both 40 days for Life rallies, at San Francisco’s second Rally for Religious Freedom, and she travels around giving talks to youth groups, churches, and different pro-life events.  Lewis says “It is our country too, we must all stand up to help fight this catastrophe against Life, marriage, and God….”

The organization is offering sponsorships to young people who might otherwise not be able to attend, but are still seeking donations from Catholics and others to cover the cost of the conference.
