Father Joseph Illo, pastor of Star of the Sea church in San Francisco, gave a 17-minute homily on Sunday, August 22. He began by acknowledging Father John Chung, who was leaving Star of the Sea for service at Thomas Aquinas College.
Father Illo cited the day’s reading where Christ spoke in graphic language about eating his body and blood and the apostles begin to leave.
A 20-second excerpt:
“Most people have left the Catholic church. Someone told me that the parish down the street, St. Thomas, has 20 people at Sunday Mass. Another person told me she went to a Mass downtown two Sundays ago and there were a total of 6 people. But if you’re worried that the Catholic Church is collapsing, it was worse for Jesus – everyone left him.”
Thank God for good shepherds like Father Illo.
I beg everyone to watch the 17 minute homily. It is one of the best-if not the best-I have ever heard. It is something that has been laid on my heart by the Holy Spirit and I need to obey it.
Thanks me. You motivated me to listen to the homily and it was well worth it. May God bless Fr. Illo.

It is really enriching to hear your homilies dear Padte Joseph, thank you for praying for me and my son last week I really felt an improvement in my mood, and I continue to pray to God for you
Fr Chung is a very fine priest. Prayers that his service at Thomas Aquinas College bear fruit in many great vocations in the future.

Father, not everywhere.
Our TLM parishes are booming. SSPX in Post Falls has 5 Masses at the Church and 1 at the Sisters every Sunday. The FSSP in same town has 5 and 1 at the Sisters. Daily Masses, too. Folks jammed in.
An hour and a half south in our little SSPX Mission Chapel {converted farm shed} 17 miles from town at last count we now have larger attendance than at the beautiful brick parish church that is in town.
Yet we are attacked……BY THE POPE HIMSELF.
Our response is to keep praying for the Pope!
Sorry to rant but I looked at the website from the SSPX chapel in Post Falls and it is the exact kind of dishonesty that ticks me off about that group. If you did not know any better, you would think they were Catholic. Their is no mention anywhere that SSPX is not a part of the Catholic Church. Those of us who have been around this block before know to look close when a chapel says they are of the Catholic tradition. . They do not mention that their priests are all suspended and have no ministry in the Catholic Church.
FSSP is Catholic.
Love my Pastor Father Illo. We are so blessed at Star of the Sea.
Yes. Please pray for the rest of us. My pastor is going through a faith crisis.
Yes. The Church must keep telling the truth. For example: the truth that the Covid19 vaccines are safe, effective and morally acceptable.
Has anybody read Chaput’s Things Worth Dying For? Could you tell me if it is good?
