SIMBANG GABI ADVENT NOVENA:
THE COMMISSIONING MASS
Simbang Gabi Advent Novena:

Thursday, December 10, 2020, 7:00 PM
Simbang Gabi (“Mass at Night”) is a devotional tradition from the Philippines that leads up to Christmas, a “novena of Masses” in the nine days preceding the birth of Christ. The 13th annual Simbang Gabi Commissioning Mass and Parol Lighting will herald the beginning of the Simbang Gabi season in many parishes of the Archdiocese.

St. Augustine Church, 3700 Callan Blvd., South San Francisco
LIVESTREAMED on the St. Augustine FACEBOOK page:
www.facebook.com/SACC45thYear

Because of public health concerns and regulations, the organizers say: “We will strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions set forth by San Mateo County and the Archdiocese of San Francisco. These include wearing a mask, maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others, guest capacity limits, and other precautions. To that end, only 4 representatives from each parish and organization intending to participate will be allowed to register and attend.” During the Mass, the parish leaders with their “parol” will be commissioned to share the light of Christ with their respective parish.
For additional information and to register, please contact via phone or text: Deacon Ven Garcia, 415-215-4961 or Estelle Oloresisimo, 415-595-9248.

Traditionally, Christmas Day in the Philippines is ushered in by nine days of dawn Masses. These came to be known popularly as Misa Aguinaldo or also known as the Misa de Gallo (“Rooster’s Mass”) in Spanish, and these Masses are also more popularly known in Tagalog as Simbang Gabi (pronounced SimBONG GaBEE), or “Mass at Night.”
