Columbus Day is Monday, October 12.
Why is he celebrated? some ask.

There will be a live talk titled, “Saint Christopher Columbus? The True Story,” by Catholic Answers president, Christopher Check. It’ll happen Sunday, October 11, at 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Pacific time (7 Eastern).
(And, there is a pre-class discussion at 3:30.)

Hosted by the Institute of Catholic Culture, they note: For decades, the Christopher Columbus story suffered from too much familiarity: third-grade shoebox dioramas and inane verse. Today, familiarity has degenerated into outright contempt, a contempt that has manifested itself suddenly in irrational and diabolical acts. The uniting of two worlds in 1492, however, previously altogether unknown to the other, is perhaps the most significant event in human history since the Incarnation, and at the center of it is one of the most remarkable men who has ever lived. Find out why we should be building more statues to this heroic man, not tearing them down.
