They are having Solemn High Mass with Fr. Lopez, F.S.S.P. at St. Anne in San Diego on Thursday night, 18:30 (6:30pm). I’m pretty sure they are going to process at least around the block.
The Church needs more effective leadership. And God needs to make his presence more known and effective. The Church’s reputation sucks. If you asked people what good the Church does, they’d not know. If you asked them what good Google, Microsoft, Apple or Tesla do, they’d be able to go on and on about how great those companies are.
” If you asked them what good Google, Microsoft, Apple or Tesla do, they’d be able to go on and on about how great those companies are.” none of them are the sole means of salvation
“
And there it is. That’s the card the religious folk always try to play. The salvation card. Well Jesus did lots of things that helped people in the here and now: healings, miracles, and he said that his followers would do similarly great deeds. I don’t see that happening anywhere in the church. What I see is a bunch of old men desperately trying to hold onto power and get donations by telling people their “salvation” is in jeopardy if they don’t do what the old men say.
If Martin Luther were alive today, he’d post his 95 theses on Twitter, and it would cause a sensation.
Face it: the Church is a failure compared to just about every company in the Nasdaq-100 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Because those companies have effective leaders. The Church? If there were federal oversight of religious institutions the way there is for publicly traded companies, the Church would not be as corrupt or ineffecient and ineffective.
Thats right there it is, I say loud and proud. The Church is currently run by a clique of gay men destroying from within, I will admit to that. But a remnant will always remain, its not about size or “great deeds” its about Faithfulness and Loyalty to Christ. You can put your trust in usury and the stock market, and you will get your reward for it, since your concern is only the here and now. But when you draw your last breath none of that will be help you
Archbishop Sheen had been instructing a man in Catholicism and he was ready for baptism. Before his baptism, he was taking a trip to the Vatican. Archbishop Sheen advised him to wait to go to the Vatican until after he was baptized. The man went to Rome anyway and when he returned he asked Archbishop Sheen to baptize him immediately. Archbishop Sheen was relieved and said to the man “I was worried that after you saw how things are at the Vatican that you would change your mind about joining the Church.” The man replied “My faith in the Church is sure. No organization that is run like that could have lasted all these centuries unless it really is of God.”
“The Church’s reputation?” What? Why was this filthy comment– with an obscene word– printed? Is nothing sacred to you? Does no one care any more, to use good English, have good manners and good morals, even on a religious website? Just like the many dope-addicted, homeless people of SF, who use the streets and anywhere they want, as a bathroom.
Whoa dude. Back away from the edge and calm down.
No. You must learn your manners and your morals! And you must also treat me–an elderly devout Catholic lady!– with respect! This is a Catholic website, and this article is about Corpus Christi processions!
For those in the Central Valley who would care to join us, there will be a Eucharistic procession following the 10:00 Mass of the Feast of Corpus Christi this Sunday at Holy Family Church in Kingsburg. Many of us drive from various towns in the valley each Sunday to attend this Mass. Father Greg Beaumont is an orthodox priest who delivers good homilies. The TLM is held at the 10:00 Mass here once a month, and father often celebrates the 10::00 Mass ad orientem. There is a wonderful cantor who leads Gregorian chant songs and the Mass parts in Latin. I don’t think that you will be disappointed if you attend the 10:00 Mass in Kingsburg any Sunday. I just wanted to extend the invitation.
The lovers of the traditional Latin Mass are engaging in the very same behaviors for which they castigated moderate Catholics: changing the Mass and not following the magisterium. Let’s see Father, let’s add a little Latin here, throw in a Gregorian chant there and add an ad orientum section here. It is incrementalism. Have you people read Tradtionis custodies? These customizations of the liturgy are prohibited.
Have you read the Vatican II documents? Nothing in the documents prevents the things that this good priest is doing.
It would be up to this priest’s bishop. If you prefer not to attend, then don’t.
This guy just seemed to want to invite interested persons to a beautiful event happening in his parish. It sounds like there is a reverently celebrated liturgy occurring there. Not everyone wants to attend the happy clappy liturgies with a guitar played by some gray haired person with a pony tail and priest that uses his homily to tell jokes and talk about his favorite football team.
The present Roman Missal of the Catholic Church (revised in 1969 following the Second Vatican Council) does not forbid the ad orientem position of the priest saying Mass: its General Instruction only requires that in new or renovated churches the facing-the-people orientation be made possible.
The Second Vatican Council said: “The use of the Latin language is to be preserved in the Latin rites.” (SC §36 n1)
From the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (Sacrosanctum Concilium), solemnly promulgated by His Holiness Pope Paul VI on Dec. 4, 1963.
“Provision should be made … to see that the faithful can say or sing together in Latin those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass that concern them” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 54).
“The Church acknowledges Gregorian chant as specially suited to the Roman Liturgy: therefore, other things being equal, it should be given pride of place in liturgical services. But other kinds of sacred music, especially polyphony, are by no means excluded from liturgical celebrations, so long as they accord with the spirit of the liturgical actions…”(Sacrosanctum Concilium 116).

saw an Angel, the executor of divine wrath. He was clothed in a dazzling robe, his face gloriously bright, a cloud beneath his feet. From the cloud, bolts of thunder and flashes of lightning were springing into his hands; and from his hand they were going forth, and only then were they striking the earth. When I saw this sign of divine wrath which was about to strike the earth, and in particular a certain place, which for good reasons I cannot name, I began to implore the Angel to hold off for a few moments, and the world would do penance. But my plea was a mere nothing in the face of the divine anger. Just then I saw the Most Holy Trinity. The greatness of Its majesty pierced me deeply, and I did not dare to repeat my entreaties. At that very moment I felt in my soul the power of Jesus’ grace, which dwells in my soul. When I became conscious of this grace, I was instantly snatched up before the Throne of God. … I found myself pleading with God for the world with words heard interiorly. As I was praying in this manner, I saw the Angel’s helplessness: he could not carry out the just punishment which was rightly due for sins. Never before had I prayed with such inner power as I did then. The words with which I entreated God are these: “Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us.” The next morning, when I entered chapel, I heard these words interiorly [from Jesus]: “Every time you enter the chapel, immediately recite the prayer which I taught you yesterday.” When I had said the prayer, in my soul I heard these words: “This prayer will serve to appease My wrath” (Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, 474-476).
Blessed St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, pray for us and Poland.
Tech companies take away the worship time from the Holy Eucharist. Our generation worships technology.
Says the guy who used tech to post his comment. The irony.
