The following comes from a Jan. 8 email sent to us by a reader of Cal Catholic.

Plenty of people could be “honored” instead of the pro-death politician. What a sham.

From the breakfast website:

The 21st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Proud Bird Restaurant in Los Angeles with Leslie Sykes, ABC 7 TV News Anchor, as host. Sr. Antona Ebo, F.S.M. will give the keynote address .This year in particular, while remembering Dr. King, we will also recognize two significant milestones:

  1. Retired California State Senator Diane Watson will be honored as the first recipient of the Drum Major Award, which recognizes the life-long contributions and exemplary efforts of African American leaders in our community who demonstrate the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Senator Watson has served our community as an elementary school teacher and as the first African American woman to serve on the Los Angeles Unified School District Board.  She also has served as Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia and as a member of the 108th Congress. In addition, she has fought for improved health care for everyone especially women and children and has been a long time member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Los Angeles.
