The following comes from a December 4 Breitbart article by Joel B. Pollak:
Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), who represents southern San Francisco and San Mateo County, has announced that she will boycott any moments of silence for the victims of the San Bernardino terror attack, reinforcing a new left-wing talking point.
“I’m not going to stand up for a moment of silence again and then watch us do nothing. It’s hypocritical and it speaks to our impotence that we think that it’s good enough to just take out one minute and pray for the lives,” she said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Speier’s pledge echoes a new attack on prayer, pushed by left-wing pundits on Wednesday as the attack unfolded, and reflected in Thursday’s lead headline at the New York Daily News: “God Isn’t Fixing This.”
The idea is that those who sent “thoughts and prayers” to the victims and to law enforcement during the attack, instead of calling for immediate gun control legislation, are complicit in the murder.
*Spier didn’t drink That Batch of ‘Kool Aid’ – but has served up similar mixes to the voters ever since:

Drinking Harvey Milk’s Kool-Aid

Lionized by Hollywood and California state legislators, the real Milk was a demagogue and pal of Jim Jones…
Jones provided conscripted “volunteers” for Milk’s campaigns to distribute leaflets by the tens of thousands. Milk returned the favor by abusing his position of public trust on behalf of Jones’s criminal endeavors.
“Rev. Jones is widely known in the minority communities here and elsewhere as a man of the highest character, who has undertaken constructive remedies for social problems which have been amazing in their scope and…
Michael McDermott, using that expression, which is in extremely poor taste in any situation, is unconscionable when referring to Jackie Speier.
Someone should ask Spier about this quote – and will doubtless be met with Many Moments of Silence & Silencing:
“Rev. Jones is widely known in the minority communities here and elsewhere as a man of the highest character, who has undertaken constructive remedies for social problems which have been amazing in their scope and effectiveness,” Supervisor Milk wrote President Jimmy Carter seven months before the Jonestown carnage.
The purpose of Milk’s letter was to aid and abet his powerful supporter’s abduction of a six-year-old boy.
Milk’s missive to the president prophetically continued: “Not only is the life of a child at stake, who currently has loving and protective parents in the Rev. and Mrs. Jones (who gave him ‘Kool Aid’,…
are not moments of silence actually based on the catholic tradition of prayer for the souls of the departed? but so that no one feels forced to pray or express belief in such, public arenas decided at some point to call praying’moments of silence’ .praying for peace does change things. the angry voice of jim morrison in his lyrics ‘you cannot petition the Lord with prayer’ (followed later by ‘cancel my subscription to the resurrection’ speaks through speier’. we know she does have faith in the political process which at first glance seems unable to change things. she just hates prayer.
The fool wants us all disarmed, so we can easily be lined up and shot. like those in Jonestown, Nazis Germany and so forth while she has her guards and loaded gun for protection. No thanks, Jackie Speier. You disarm first and fire your guards Then maybe we will believe you.
And how about the Chinese American Democratic politician who was all for gun control all the while he was selling them to our enemies. Fool me once;shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.
DEMOCRATS have been destroying the USA, and CA for a long time with their “political correctness” rather than truth.
And many Catholic Bishops, Priests, and Laity keep voting them into office.
When are they going to wake up ?
This should be no surprise to any of us here, the Left which includes gays, environmentalists, feminists, Democrats, Actors, musicians, animal rights activists and liberal self hating Jews, all have a deep affection for Islam, which has always struck me as very odd, reason being if Sharia Law ever became the norm all of the above mentioned groups would be the first to have their throats slit!!! As Michael Savage has said for years LIBERALISM is a mental disorder!! On a great note however the National Front in France has scored historic victories in Sunday’s election with Marine Le-Pen and here niece a Traditional Roman Catholic who attends the annual Chartres pilgrimage each year both winning in many French regions, the Eldest Daughter…
None of this would have happened if they hadn’t done away with the high altars.
“I have never found any true, deep inner happiness outside the context of love. Love (of God and others) and real inner joy have been inseparable for me. One does not exist without the other. Loving one another is what life is all about.” Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Representative Jackie Speir-D-CA reveals her own impotence in her ability to form a bond of love with those who mourn for our fallen brothers and sisters. May she come to know true joy, true love, and true happiness in respecting those who disagree with her. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted…although Speir refuses them comfort at this time.
As a victim of gun violence herself, she is just saying it is a meaningless gesture to have a moment of silence, if you refuse to take meaningful action on the problem of gun violence. She knows what it like to be suddenly ambushed. She knows what the survivors are suffering. She buried people she loved and worked with. She knows that a minute of silence doesn’t help the victims. Prayer helps. and doing something so that terrorists can’t get weapons would be a lot more comforting.
There is no such thing as “gun violence” Guns are inanimate objects and are therefor incapable of doing anything. As a matter of fact, over a thousand years ago, the Roman Catholic Church declared that blaming inanimate objects for evil is heresy. The problem is people violence!
Oh sorry. I had no idea “gun violence” was a politically incorrect term. You are correct. the gun is not to blame. The principle agent of evil is the person who uses the gun to kill another human being. Those people who produce, sell and promote the use of guns and ammunition are cooperators with that evil. According to Catholic moral theology, even if one does not intend the evil to occur, if you have provided the material that was necessary for the evil to occur, you share guilt. Now with manufacturers of remote control cars and pipes, I think the guilt would be negligible because their manufacture is for other purposes and someone with evil intent is misusing them. Assault rifles are made to kill people. That is their use, so…
Representative Spier has a point, and its not an attack on prayer, even though the headlines will read that way. Today is Pearl Harbor Day! When we were attacked, along with the Philistines, Shanghai, etc. on December 7th, the leadership of the country took action. Men by the millions showed up at recruiting stations the next day and spent four and a half years in service, or until their untimely deaths. Today we stand in silence, bow our heads and nothing happens. We need prayer desperately, like we haven’t needed it in years. We all need to pray everyday for the reformation of our world. But, we also need action.
We are at war with an enemy who want to put an end to our way of life; they hate us because we have elections which they consider evil, because we educate women, which the consider evil, we allow diversity of religious beliefs which they consider evil, and the list goes on. Yet, our country and especially the Arab countries will not take on the burden to go after the Caliphate and wipe it off the face of the world, as we did the Axis Powers in WWII. We need leadership from our Bishops, our Pastors and our elected officials, which we are not getting.Even the President went on TV from the Oval Office and essentially pledged to do nothing. We are a leaderless people. At least we have God!
Bob One for once I agree with you, this country is starving for leadership, we have people in power more concerned with tolerance and diversity ..they will get us all killed….The Great Chastisement is already here
Bob One, I agree with much of what you said in your later posts, but you failed to mentioned that the United States had to rearm Britain during World War II when it was attacked; also the Japanese did not attack the U.S. mainland because they knew that many of our citizens were armed. One Japanese leader even said so after the war. It is well documented.
We do, though, need to clean up our own acts on abortion, the selling of the body parts of children from them and marriage “as righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
By the way, Bob, that is “Filipinos” not “Philistines”.
Naw, Anne T., you have to be wrong: Bob One is certain we were allied with the Philistines in WW2: That Goliath guy was on our side, you know.
You mean the one who got “stoned” by Little Davey? Got to laugh at that one.
I will give him the benefit of the doubt; he probably meant the Philippines. In that case he would have been right as the country is the Philippines and the people Filipinos. Even I get confused sometimes as whether to start the words with a “P” or an “F”.
….actually, Bob One, gun sales spiked and always do after events such as that in San Bernadino. That is the public reacting the way the public should react. With vigor and in the best interest of the United States, her values, her liberties, and the free exercise thereof.
The difference between then and now is that in WWII, the perceived threat was correspondingly targeted for elimination. The appropriate response. Today, “leadership” pretends that the appropriate response to a threat is to send in ground troops that are legally hogtied from engaging to WIN/DEFEAT/OVER COME. Much like folks at home are increasingly shamed and, if progressives have their way, will be legally prevented from raising an appropriate defense.
God is not solving this problem precisely because Leftists have told Him in certain terms to get out of the public square and too many have gone along with the program. That’s why we’re in the mess we’re in today. If, however, we continue with the Progressive program and give up our guns (common sense) the takeover will be complete.
So what we need is prayer, to repent of our foolishness, beg God’s forgiveness, and then proceed to act as we should. Defending Faith and Country and the future of our children.
Then again, enslavement is what it takes to get some to humbly pray and mean it. God help us from ourselves.
Exactly, Ann Malley.
…there are no atheists in a foxhole as my Dad once said, Anne T. Unfortunately, many will only learn the hard way and at the cost of much innocent suffering. History repeats itself because man, inherently, doesn’t change. Not without the aid and acceptance of God’s grace.
God bless!
Have no doubt. God is solving this problem. Of course, if everyone obeyed God, this problem would not exist. Perhaps even you have been spared without your even knowing it.
So pray and make sacrifices for the conversion of all sinners especially for those with murderous intent toward their fellow man in their hearts or those who do not believe in God or prayer.
Pray the Rosary daily.
“…God is solving this problem.”
Well said, Anonymous.
Thing is the real problem is man’s rejection of God. So first things must come first. Like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And the solution begins by allowing man to wallow in the fallout of his own action/inaction.
That is what seems to confuse those like the ‘Catholic school’ educated, Speier.
St. Joan of Arc said “God helps those who help themselves.” And there has never been a greater embodiment of that principle than St. Joan. I suggest that country say its prayers and take action, and take inspiration from St. Joan who chased the English out of France. She definitely was not part of the open-borders crowd.
Congresswoman Speier lists herself as “Roman Catholic” according to her Wikipedia page, and she is a 1968 graduate of Mercy High School, Burlingame, a once-very-Catholic girls school. However, she has been pronouncedly pro-abortion, beside her “God-is-useless” (my paraphrase) views mentioned here, and has a 100% pro-abortion rating from NARAl and Planned Parenthood.
Well done, good and faithful servant!
PRAY FOR JACKIE!!!
