On Friday, Oct. 18, Melvin Galloway, COO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, testified in San Francisco as part of the suit of Planned Parenthood against David Daleiden, whose undercover videos of Planned Parenthood staff appeared in July, 2015.
One of the defandants’ attorneys, Catherine Short of Life Legal Defense Foundation, questioned Galloway about Planned Parenthood’s suing for widespread security costs after the appearance of the videos.
SHORT:
Q. Mr. Galloway, I believe where we left off we were talking about the ten events that you said you needed to — you needed to pay for the outside vendors to check the bona fides of registrants and to also provide on-site security, both of which we saw the invoices for; correct?
A. Yes.
Q. And only one of those, as far as you know, was a medical conference; correct?
A. Yes.
Q. Okay.
A. Well, as far as I know. I have to look at the — I didn’t look at the list while we were gone, but yes.
Q. Okay. But we did confirm that there was a donor event. There was at least one donor event in there; is that correct?
A. Yes, that’s right.
Q. And you testified on Exhibit 891-I, the Power of Pink event?
A. Yes.
Q. And you said that it had to do with young folks, I believe you said?
A. Yes.
Q. Now, that event actually took place in January in New Hampshire; didn’t it?
A. I don’t — I have to look at the list. If it’s there, yes. If it’s in the invoice, if we can go to the invoice, I can tell you.
Q. Yes, it is in the invoice.

Q. And you can see from the dates –
A. 891?

A. Yes, yes.
Q. And you can see that it’s in January?
A. Yes.
Q. All right. And they are checking about 40 Days for Life, New Hampshire, NH there?
A. Yes.
Q. Okay. And the reason it was in January in New Hampshire in 2016 was that it was a political event at which Hilary Clinton attended; is that correct?
A. It was an Action Fund event, yes.
Q. So not just a gathering of young folks; correct?
A. The Power of Pink is a young folks program, yes. And so people come to young people’s programs.
Q. And it was at that event that Hilary Clinton — excuse me, that Planned Parenthood announced its endorsement of Hilary Clinton for the presidency?
A. Now that you say it, yes. I’m not involved in the content of meetings.
Q. But you did approve over $50,000 in expenses for this event; is that correct?
A. I did, believing a need to secure that event, yes.
I’m getting lost in all the details presented.. However, asking for everything even remotely relevant, and hoping to settle somewhere in the middle, is very common.
