Hundreds in California gathered at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to protest Gov. Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus ban on singing in churches.
Between 300 and 400 people gathered for two hours last week, joining together in the middle of the iconic bridge and worshipping in defiance of the Democrat governor’s new order, according to organizers.
“We were protesting with worship,” Sean Feucht, a millennial worship leader at Bethel Church and founder of Hold The Line, which hosted the event, told Fox News.
“Nobody was angry,” Feucht said. “We were just like, ‘We want to worship. We want to declare a blessing over the state of California.’ When they persecute and discriminate, we bless. We want to release hope and we want to unify the sound of the church.”
As the Golden State saw a surge in cases, second only to New York with over 328,000 confirmed, state health officials issued guidelines that said: “places of worship must, therefore, discontinue singing and chanting activities and limit indoor attendance to 25 percent of building capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower.”
“In response to the ban on singing, I believe, either one, it’s hypocrisy, because the state officials are largely encouraging protests, and I’m not discouraging them,” Feucht said, “and at worst, it’s discrimination against the church because we can’t meet in groups more than 100.
“Our heart in bringing worship outside was taking it to a place where we could have social distancing,” Feucht explained to FOX 11 Monday morning.
About a dozen police officers showed up to protect the rights of the protesters.
“We got to pray for each one of the police officers,” Feucht said. “It was pretty rad.”
Two of the officers were on suicide watch as the bridge is a place many have jumped from in the past.
“We want to see the train of suicide and depression and heaviness broken over that spot,” the worship leader explained.
And the officers, who witnessed the worship and prayer, said they’d never seen a protest like that one.
The above comes from a July 13 story on Fox News.
If you Google recall Gavin Newsom there is a petition to get rid of this nuisance of a gruesome governor.
Don’t forget to include links to important petitions like this one! Here it is: https://getgavingone.com
Does anyone care to stand for Governor as a Republican in the next election?
Someone usually runs. But, we live in a one-party state with a rigged primary system. The general elections are usually one pro-abortion gay-promoting extremist versus another pro-abortion gay-promoting extremist. Both members of the … well, I’ll let you guess the Party.
Awesome. I’d love to see more of these types of protests.
What an awsome picture! They, at least in part, are the reason for the shutdown. As Americans, we have the right to expect that our fellow citizens will do what they can to avoid the spread of covid-19. Breathing on people is not recommended, singing is loud and strong breathing. Why don’t these people who are less than six feet apart have on a mask? When Catholics, or any denomination really, yells for the ability to sing in a crowded church, they are saying that their selfishness overrides their care for fellow parishioners. If you go to an indoor church service, don’t wear a mask, get closer than six fee to each other, and touch each other, you forfeit your right complain about assisted suicide, abortion, or any other act that involves killing, because you are stating that you are willing to take the risk of killing someone for your own pleasure. This virus is serious folks. It is time to stop listening to the ignorant, the malcontents, the science deniers land the flat world society. If 95% of us wore masks for 4-6 weeks, we woiuld have the virus under control. Isn’t it worth the effort to same lives?
I agree with you, Bob One. What a terrible message they are sending to Gov, Newsom — nothing calculated to win his heart, but more repel it with this act of defiance and pure stupidity, given the terrible devastation this pandemic has wrought. Some of those pictured could become infected and in the worst case scenario die from this plague. God please spare these idiots from their folly. And I say this in full agreement with their position. Using appropriate caution, we should return to Church. Absent this caution, we should stay home.
There is a real problem – the inability of most people to face death, and consequently, they deliberately avoid looking at the cv problem, and associated stats. Here is data from the CDC, the Center of Disease Control: 8000 people a day die in the US. That means in the five months following the start of the cv pandemic, more than one million people have died. One million! In this same period, perhaps 150,000 have died of cv. What about the other 850,00?
Do we shut down schools and our country over cancer? Over Heart Disease? Over accidents? Please think about this. Yes, cv is dangerous, tragic, and threatening our families. So are the other causes. We have to face cv with our heads up in this storm, the same way we face cancer and heart problems.
Life must continue. We have to stop flinching and wake up. Disease will not go away, nor will accidents. And our lives must end also. We are not alone in this storm. Pray the Rosary, ask for help. And yes, we must return to Mass.
The risk of infection at this event was minimal. First, the protestors were outside, not inside. So even Newsom’s most recent decree didn’t require them to wear masks unless they were consistently closer than 6 feet. Second, they were outside **at the Golden Gate Bridge**, where there’s almost always a steady 10- or 15-knot wind blowing, often much stronger. Hence, the air around them was being replaced every couple of seconds, physically sweeping away any virus particles far more rapidly than if they had been standing in a street somewhere else. Third, although they understandably removed their masks for that group photo, images taken at other times at the event show pretty consistent mask-wearing — better than many of the passers-by.
Bob One: agree with you wholeheartedly. I listen to the medical leaders such as Dr. Fauci- a practicing Catholic by the way – for guidance regarding the pandemic. The president has failed the country due to the incompetent manner in which he has handled the pandemic.
FHK, help me out here brother. You’ve stated you’re a practicing Catholic. But, you’ve been repeatedly, nicely, asked, “Do you believe that intentional abortion is always wrong?” Yet, you haven’t answered. Do you?
(We know you don’t want Roe overturned, so I’ll skip that.)
Did you object when those desiring racial justice hit the streets without masks and close together?
In May, Dr. Fauci said the values he learned from the Jesuits continue to guide him and “I identify more, much more, with that than the concept of organized churches, religions,” he said. (America magazine)
Don’t practicing Catholics think that Jesus founded a Church, the Church?
It seems Fauci likes Jesuit sentiment and, instead of a church, we could just have a group hug (provided we’re masked and six feet apart). How about you?
I don’t know where you’re getting your information but Fauci admitted that he doesn’t attend Church anymore.
FHK: Donald Trump gave Dr. Fauci his position of prominence in the federal government’s response to COVID-19. Was that part of his alleged “failure” too?
Bob One – I don’t remember any post from you condemning the BLM protests/riots/looting/statue desecrations for the same reason, but l’m not surprised, it is consistent from what I’ve seen from you posts.
JD, I did say that BLM protests were bad, but it seems like years ago, things move so fast. People have a right to protest, not riot, but they should wear a mask and social distance. But …
So at least two prominent two politicans who attended Trump’s Tulsa indoor rally have contracted COVID 19 and one of them is in the hospital fighting for his life. One is Herman Cain, and the other is the Governor of Oklahoma. Conincidence? I think not. Do almost whatever you want outdoors, and the Golden Gate Bridge is probably as good a place as any. But please don’t do it indoors. Young people have already moved indoors all over the country, in bars, and parties and other indoor gatherings. And cases among them are skyrocketing.
The last thing the Catholic Church needs is a massive outbreak of COVID traceable to an indoor Mass.
You can download and Official Recall Newsom petition and start collecting signatures. It is only to get it on the ballot for voting.
I am puzzled why pushback is only coming from Protestants. Where are our Catholic bishops?
Peggy, because most Catholic Bishops are pro-life
Most of the evangelical Protestants at the bridge are prolife.
Pastor Sean does not want to kill off his congregation.
Unless, maybe like the Orthodox archbishop of San Francisco, he’s a Russian spy.
That’s it: the only reason they want to chant and sing is to kill Americans.
Doesn’t Pastor Sean know that singing outside is not a very efficient way to spread disease?
They must’ve been doing a lot of singing at that Trump rally!
I had a dream last night that we were again singing hymns.
Oh Dear Lord Have Mercy!
I have to agree with Bob One on this. People do need to take reasonable precautions. Just because the rioters do not distance themselves, does not mean some of them have not died from COVID 19, or other diseases, or given them to innocent family members. Rioters are not people I would want to emulate. I know Gavin Newson has been too precautious with church goers, but we should not go overboard the other way either.
OK I think you meant protesters, not rioters. Unless you think Mary processions and Eucharistic processions are riots.(I don’t) But I do want to thank you Anne TE for your reasonable voice towards safety when it comes to the novel coronavirus.
By rioters I meant Antifa and the members of the organization Black Lives matter (not those who just naively use the term), who really do not care one bit about black lives, but just want to stir up trouble and vandalized for their cause, which is mainly Marxist — “solve et coagula, destroy and rebuild.
I will not discuss it further.
I should have written (not those who just innocently use the term, instead of naively) in my last post.
California doesn’t look very diverse.
Fauci and his ilk at the CDC and WHO are liars, frauds and political knaves.
You don’t lock down a country from a virus with an actual, measured morbidity rate of 39 per 100,000. (For comparison, the 1918 Spanish Flu mortality rate was 17 times higher, and affected all age groups.)
https://tinyurl.com/y6722rkg
There is no Covid “public health emergency” … and anyone who claims there is probably has evil intentions.
Any lockdown or masking orders based on this false “emergency” are unlawful.
This is madness. The devil is completely unrestrained. Lord help us.
In the last 14 days, France reported 7,714 new cases, Germany 5,239, Hungary 132, Ireland 241, Italy 2,797, Spain 9,710, United States 871,922 new cases. Our cases are increasing at about 70,000 per day. Florida by itself, if it were a country would be the fourth highest in the world. Most countries in Europe closed down very early on. As a result their new cases are few and they can open their schools again. This is not a hoax. Dr. Fauci is one of the world’s most respected experts in how to fight pandemics. But I suppose, as Senator Paul asked, why should we listen to the experts what do they know? Good God man this is not about politics, it is about health. The world looks at the US’s approach to fighting the pandemic and laughs. We are the richest country in the world with a world-class health system, and we have the worse outcomes. Why is that?
39 per hundred thousand SO FAR. The point is that as it spreads, it sweeps more people exponentially into the morbidity number.
39 today becomes 80 in a month, 160 in two months, 300 in three months, 600 by election day.
Better to tackle this thing NOW so that we can return to normal ASAP. Distance, Mask, Avoid indoor activities whenever possible. Don’t gather in groups of 20 or more.
We never ought to have needed to drag this thing out this long. We never really shut down properly. Boba shops and coffee shops open since the beginning. Some stores open for parts of their business that can hardly be called essential. Bars open in places that never got a handle on the virus. Had we shut this thing down in March like we should have, we would have been done with this weeks ago. It’s not too late, but it will take commitment on the part of EVERYBODY.
