The following comes from a March 1 Catholic San Francisco article by Christina Gray:
Many of this year’s Oscar-nominated films would likely have been stamped “condemned” if they were made during the era of the Catholic Legion of Decency, according to Catholic film critic Pauline Sister Rose Pacatte, host of a month-long film series in March aired by Turner Classic Movies.
“Condemned,” premiering March 3 at 8 p.m., will explore a little-known or forgotten aspect of film history: the powerful influence the Catholic Church had on Hollywood for more than a half-a-century from the 1930s through the 1960s.
“This is a fascinating look at older films and why they were condemned or found offensive and objectionable by the Catholic Church” said Sister Rose, an award-winning catechetical film critic who offers her theological, educational and cinematic perspective on films for RCL Benziger, St. Anthony’s Messenger and National Catholic Reporter.
Sister Rose is also founding director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies in Culver City. Her blog, “Sister Rose Goes to the Movies,” is ranked as one of top 130 church blogs in the country, according to her biography.
The series will screen 27 of the movies the Legion condemned and explore the impact it and Catholic moviegoers had on how movies were produced at that time.
Founded in 1933 by the archbishop of Cincinnati, John T. McNicholas, the Catholic Legion of Decency was dedicated to identifying and combating objectionable content in films, often of a sexual nature, from the viewpoint of the church. The Legion distributed a list of ratings for films, classifying them as A (morally unobjectionable); B (morally objectionable in part); or C (condemned). The rating system was more stringent than the Motion Picture Association of America’s long-standing “Production Code” in place at the same time.
During the Legion’s heyday, Catholic parishes asked the faithful to take the Legion of Decency Pledge, an oath that promised an individual would not watch morally objectionable movies or even patronize any theatre that screened them. To avoid a condemned rating, Hollywood producers were often willing to adjust costumes or story lines.
Sister Rose, who told Catholic San Francisco she used to receive letters telling her that it was “just wrong” for a nun to watch movies, believes “you can find God on the silver screen.” She said her approach as host of the series will be “cinematic, historic and “educational” as it looks at each film and what led to its condemned rating.
The movie ‘Spotlight’ just won best picture – for its absolute trashing of the Catholic Church – while pretty much avoiding the root cause for the scandal – Homosex Ephebophiles infiltrating the Priesthood (knowing full well they were Explicitly Barred by the Pope and Magisterium) and targeting Adolescent Boys (90+% of cases).
Much Blame is Given – and Richly Deserved – for those craven ‘leaders’ who Transferred Serial Abusers to fresh territory and new victims, often to keep their own homosex disgrace from public exposure – kind of like a domino theory of pederasty, only a lot uglier.
Spotlight is more Hollywerid MIsandrist Hate – Just like the ‘Lavender Liberal Stalker List’ the Gaystapo created to target and retaliate…
Hey Sister, these same sins are still damaging lives and sending people to Hell so don’t gloss over the SIN aspect of these films. Also, don’t be tempted to act as though The Church was just silly or quaint in pointing out sin as portrayed in the movies. Lots of nasty lessons learned from the silver screen.
This nun, as well as all other Catholic nuns, priests, and prelates, and Catholic laymen, too — should be TOTALLY FORBIDDEN BY OUR CHURCH, to see or have anything to do with, filthy, evil modern films, music, literature or all other objectionable material, in the media! When the Legion of Decency ended, after Vatican II– it did not matter, to good Catholics, and to other good people, and their families and children. A filthy, dirty “anti-society” film, will NOT BE SEEN!! A dirty, filthy, “anti-society” book– WIL NOT BE READ!! To see FILTHY films, to read FILTHY books, IS STILL A VIOLENT MORTAL SIN AGAINST GOD!
Linda Maria, I note that the names of the films reviewed by Sister were never specified. How can you state that these were “filthy, evil modern films” if you don’t even know what films were reviewed. That’s even worse than condemning a film without having seen it. But, then again, you’ll never allow information or facts to interfere with your pre-conceived notions.
The names of the films were identified elsewhere. One was an English film titled “BIack Narcissus”, released in 1947. It was about a strict order of Anglican nuns called the “Sisters of Mary” who were sent to a remote outpost in the Himalayas, to evangelize and help the people with medical clinics, etc. Very, very “High Church”. One of the nuns was identified…
as being seriously disturbed from the outset. The remoteness of the Himalayas and her uncertainty about her vocation led her to imagine a romance with an Englishman living near the convent (something he never reciprocated in the slightest). Finally, she decides to leave the convent but tells no one; she has by now gone completely mad, and decides to kill the Mother Superior before leaving. During the struggle, she slips and falls to her death off a cliff.
This movie is about human struggles. The mad nun couldn’t keep her vows, and destroys herself. The other nuns stay loyal, with varying degrees of happiness. But none of them pass final judgment on their erring sister. They continue to pray for her, and lovingly tend her grave with flowers.
Anyone who sees this movie and calls it immoral or sex-filled needs a mental status check by a good psychiatrist.
Perhaps you could bring these nuns’ nonjudgmental approach and level-headed tone to your own posts.
Truth to tell, your self-righteousness is not only unwarranted but boring.
1. “Truth to tell, your self-righteousness is not only unwarranted but boring.”
2. “Anyone who sees this movie and calls it immoral or sex-filled needs a mental status check by a good psychiatrist.”
3. “Perhaps you could bring these nuns’ nonjudgmental approach and level-headed tone to your own posts.” = Anyone who reads your uncharitable post could remind you to practice what you just preached in #3. Perhaps a mental status checkup is in order when an individual consistently uses the name “caritas” to bludgeon fellow Catholics.
IMHO, condemning Black Narcissus on any ground is very strange indeed. It is certainly high on my list of the ten best movies ever made. (Or, that I have seen—a much shorter list.)
I would say something stronger than strange indeed, but I don’t want to bludgeon fellow Catholics.
Thanks for the reminder, though. My next step will be to put it into my Netflix queue again.
Well said, Catherine. One would hope that (K)aritas and his/her insidious shadow from Brown University of the infamous leaps in diagnosis, would learn something of what they are constantly preaching to others.
“…But, then again, you’ll never allow information or facts to interfere with your pre-conceived notions,” is a perfect example of psychosis projection.
Keep up the good work, Linda Maria. And, Caritas, look in the mirror and look at what is really there, not what you “think” you see. If you want others to view things honestly, in accordance with facts, you should lead by example.
God bless you, Ann Malley! Your posts are always outstanding! And I always appreciate your kind words of support!
When the Legion of Decency ended, we still believed it to be a VIOLENT MORTAL SIN AGAINST GOD AND OUR BLESSED MOTHER– to see horrible dirty movies, or to read filthy literature. And since Hollywood began making HORRIBLY FILTHY, DESTRUCTIVE, and ANTI-SOCIETY films, in the hippie era– we began to walk out of movie theatres, upon discovering this — and got our money back! Next, we would all read movie reviews, for one or two movies we might be interested in. If they were immoral, and had filthy language- NO!! Finally– we stopped watching TV, and stopped going to the movies, in the early 1970’s! Our Church should BOYCOTT “MORTAL SIN CITY”– Hollywood!!
For those who might not know– to see a “Condemned” movie, was– and still is!– a MORTAL SIN!! If you COMMIT A MORTAL SIN— you CANNOT RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION– until you have GONE TO CONFESSION!!
Seeing a movie rated “C” by the Legion of Decency was NEVER held by the Church to be ipso facto a mortal sin. Never. (No matter what Sister told you. It was in the same league as: “Don’t chew the Baby Jesus”.)
And how could it be? The Legion operated only in the USA. And it was a GUIDE, not one of the Ten Commandments.
Consider this. Assume the very same “C” movie was seen both in Canada and the USA. Is the American ipso facto guilty of mortal sin but not the Canadian??? Preposterous on its face. Makes a mockery out of any attempt at coherent and consistent moral teaching.
No, Caritas! Your emails are not worth answering1 A “C” movie?? Just who are you kidding?? Go straight to Confession! That’s all!
A movie rated “C” (Condemned) was the conclusion of the Legion of Decency. No more. It had no binding effect on one’s conscience. The Church NEVER, NEVER, NEVER taught that seeing a “C”-rated movie, in itself, constituted a mortal sin. I am not trying to kid anybody. As to when I need to go “straight to Confession”, I’ll leave that to my conscience and God’s guidance of it, thank you.
Caritas,
It’s not as simple as you lay out, especially in attempting to compare Canadian vs US catholics. US catholics took a pledge each year in Church. Seeing a condemned movie didn’t just involve the movie, it involved violation of one’s pledge. Additionally, just because a Canadian wasn’t bound by the Legion pledge, doesn’t mean seeing the movie wasn’t sinful.
I’m certainly not going to take a review of a movie by an anonymous poster as a reliable source particularly since some 60 yrs later the general population’s appetites are far more jaded and consciences poorly formed. Why would anyone consider you to be exceptional?
Then maybe you should see the movie before you condemn it.
Caritas, in all charity and truth, it is a far cry from mortal sin to, “No matter what Sister told you. It was in the same league as: Don’t chew the Baby Jesus.”
Your belittling commentary is unhelpful and speaks to one who has no concept of what movies were like before the Hollywood Censor board and/or the Legion. The reality that the lifting of these watchdogs concurred with the opening of the Church in the wake of VII subjected the faithful to a morass of filth. And not just of a sexual nature…. perhaps some study in the area of film would be good for you moving forward. That and understanding that, especially when dealing with individuals who lived through such times, you’d be better served not to take such a high hand when…
… attempting to correct a certain point. It doesn’t set the proper tone or speak to the proper education on the subject.
So, the movie, “Spotlight,” was awarded “Best Picture,” at the Oscars?? So what?? Who cares?? It is FILTHY, I am sure!! The Catholic Church should FORBID ALL CATHOLICS to participate in, or to watch ANY FILTHY FILM!! All Catholics in the film industry– GET OUT OF HOLLYWOOD!! The Church should BOYCOTT ALL HOLLYWOOD AND ITS FILMS!! As for the poor victims of clerical sex abuse— YES, their story should be told, and like the Holocaust– it must NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!
Linda Maria, you are frothing at the mouth.
Yet again.
“Spotlight” was praised by the American Bishops for showing how journalists used to do their jobs properly: and when this meant challenging powers (including the Church), so be it.
The Church, the government, and each person needs to be examined for sin and falsehood, and those reporters at the Boston Globe found PLENTY.
Anonymous– there are two things, here– Number One: The CRIME of clerical sex abuse, which must NEVER occur again! And NUMBER TWO: A FILTHY HOLLYWOOD MOVIE ABOUT THIS EVIL SUBJECT!! It is a MORTAL SIN to see such FILTHY movies– regardless of whether the Legion of Decency still exists, or not! And Number Three: Our U.S.C.C.B. is CORRUPT TO THE CORE!!
Praise from bishops these days means zero, Anonymous.
itmmight be an interesting story to know the particulars about the ending of the legion of decency, especially if it had an on-the-spot hollywood area based previewer who got to hobknob with other critics allowed to see advance runs for review purposes. i don’t think there was any pressure from lay people to see it fold. but i can imagine that something snapped in the euphoria of vatican ii and the LD might have looked like one more symbol of the ‘old furniture’ that had to go for a sleek remodel look.
i just hope sister doesn’t do her commentaries, usually seated with the tcm host per format, with too many smirks and raised eyebrows. doesn;t it really seem that she could find a more direct form of evangeliizing with media rather than explain a method that really did an evangelizing service in pointing out darkness to be avoided in order to keep the temple of the holy spirit pure?
see NYT interview -based article for january 25th,2013 to hear sister’s own words about how she handles going into R-rated movies. she found it goes better for her if she leaves the habit behind. what really sets off her geiger counter is violence in movies.
This so-called “nun” is NO EVANGELIZER, for Christ and His Most Blessed Mother!
Did Sister take off her religious habit, and go see filthy movies, such as “Fifty Shades of Gray?” And give the public a so-called “intellectual” review of such TRASH?? And does she warn men, that it is a horrible sin, to look at pornography, (with full knowledge, and willful consent to do so!) either on the movie screen, or the Internet?? And to PAY FOR, promote, advertise, or be involved in filthy movies– is a HORRIBLE SIN!! Pornography is now said to be a No. #1 health crisis issue, in the U.S., destroying millions of lives– and many marriages, too! Young women are being advised to never have anything to do with a man who is involved in pornography, or addicted to it!!
The Legion of Decency did a great service to the Church. It is a shame it no longer exists. Weekly I would read THE TIDINGS to see what films broadcast on TV were clean. I know some of the directors used to put priests and nuns in films, just walking by, so that the film would get a passing grade. The monster film THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS has a nun taking care of the sailor who saw the beast, while nuns walk by in the musical EASTER PARADE.
I’m sure most of you aren’t old enough to remember that the priests stood at the pulpit and warned everyone against going to “Gone with the Wind”. Remember, it ended with “frankly my dear I don’t give a damn”. Much too decadent for a mature adult to be exposed to.
Surprising how far morals have degraded, Bob One. Gone With the Wind has a lot more to it than saying damn. We all know this. But movies, since the onslaught of the ’60’s, the removal of the Hollywood censor board, the League, and the bulwark that was the fullness of Catholic Faith and Morals being taught on a regular basis has done much to desensitize us.
Women used to actually flee the room when dirty jokes were told. There were laws on the books for cussing in front of women and children too, Bob One. And guess what? Life wasn’t so bad back then either. There was a level of respect and dignity that is grossly lacking today. So much so that it has become a joke to even think about watching what one eats – at least with…
…one’s eyes and mind. but don’t eat fatty foods. That’ll kill you!
Bob One, all Catholics, young or old– used to have plenty of GUILT, and feared even GOING TO HELL, if they were so bad, as to deliberately stand in line at the movie theatre, and pay their money, to see a “C” movie!! YES– to read filthy literature, or to see filthy movies– is a MORTAL SIN!! It destroys your soul! Destroys your relationship with God! It HURTS Our Lord, and His Most Blessed Mother! And Our Lord took all that trouble– TO SUFFER AND DIE ON A BLOODY CROSS, FOR OUR SINS!!
OK, Bob One; so, “Gone With The Wind” was released in 1939. Lets assume that a reasonable age for a movie-goer and one who actually listens to a homily is twelve years old, that would make you 89 years old.
It is a sin to say the ‘D’ word, and it is also a sin to watch condemned films. Because the ‘D’ word refers to wishing someone or something to be sent to Hell is why it is called cursing. While they may be only venial sins, they are still sins, or at least imperfections, and these can lead to a decrease or weakening of grace in our souls.
The problem in “Black Narcissus” is nothing even remotely like the happenings in the film ever did or could have in any way occurred. Pure fantasy as usual on the part of Hollywood…Like the movie “Them” or some other creature feature.
Even if I conceded your premise that the movie was pure fiction (which I don’t because I have no idea about the Anglican Church’s evangelization program in the 1940s, and I bet you 100 to 1 that you don’t either) the worst accusation you make is that the movie’s plot is fiction. Isn’t that true of most movies? What does that have to do with the moral content of “Black Narcissus”? That’s all I was discussing. You have missed my point entirely; or I have missed yours. Did you find anything morally offensive in that movie? That feature was the ONLY thing my post was discussing. Did you view it?
If the bishops have high praise for a film, I will not follow their advice, and will skip the film, as their judgement is probably flawed.. Not many of them endorsed Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION, and that was a movie that Saint John Paul II said ‘it is how it was’. The bishops are no Pauline Keel or Siskel and Ebert.
The Leftist Fascists Take Over College Campuses
https://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/ben-shapiro/leftist-fascists-take-over-college-campuses
Last Thursday, all hell broke loose at California State University Los Angeles. Hundreds of students gathered to chant slogans, block entrances and exits to the student union auditorium, rough up those who wished to enter, pull the fire alarm, and trap other students inside that auditorium under threat of violence. Police officers stood aside and allowed that mob to violate basic safety protocols, reportedly at the behest of the school administration.
Why? Because I was coming to speak…
By the time we reached campus, the near-riot had begun. I had to be ushered through a back door by armed…
In pre-Vatican II days, no Catholic “decided for himself,” what to think and believe! All were daily TAUGHT, in Catholic school! If you committed a dirty MORTAL SIN, by seeing a dirty “C”-rated movie, you had LOTS OF GUILT!! You had dealt a severe blow to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary! You MUST GO TO CONFESSION!! And you cannot possibly receive Holy Communion until you have CONFESSED YOUR SINS AND DONE YOUR PENANCE!! VERY, VERY SERIOUS, for either a Catholic kid or adult! Christians of other churches felt similarly, and were taught right from wrong.
Christian Morality is a big responsibility! When the Legion of Decency was founded in the 1930’s, leaders of society and religion were rightly worried about the effect of IRRESPONSIBLE, IMMORAL films, which were relatively a new invention– on our culture! Evil can destroy the soul of a Nation! And finally, the Devil took control, in the 1960’s! Our Nation is in ruins! WITH NO MORAL CONSCIENCE, AND NO GUILT FOR SINS OR CRIMES– WORSE THAN ANIMALS!!
No matter how many times you try to elevate your personal notions into official Church teaching, I repeat: the Church NEVER NEVER NEVER taught that seeing a movie on the Legion of Decency’s “Condemned” list was, by that fact alone, a mortal sin. Please provide a citation to the contrary, other than another post of yours.
“Caritas,” (you should change your name!) Every single day, in the pre-Vatican II era, Catholics and their children all were taught, that to see, (and to pay money for, to encourage, or to promote) such TRASH as a “Condemned” film, WILLFULLY, and with FULL KNOWLEDGE and FULL CONSENT –meant ONLY ONE THING– MORTAL SIN!!
Again, your histrionics do not address my only point. Namely, the Catholic Church NEVER NEVER NEVER taught that viewing a movie labelled “Condemned” by the Legion of Decency was, in itself, a mortal sin. All your frothing-at-the-mouth and exclamation marks (!!!) will not make it so. Are you completely incapable, when challenged, to provide evidence for your false characterization of Church teaching? Give the evidence from official Church documents. You won’t, because you can’t. More “ipse dixit” ravings won’t do it. [By the way, “ipse dixit” roughly means “just because I said so.”]
Caritas– you are not worth answering! Do you, too, go to see FILTHY modern movies, with plenty of sex scenes, obscene language, violence, and terrible story lines, glorifying criminals and sinful activities?? Is THIS what you are IN FAVOR OF, for the Catholic home and family– and for good American homes and families, generally?? Do you really seek to PUT DOWN good, solid, practicing Catholics?? Is that what your whole agenda is?? Just what do you live for, “Caritas?” Do you really love Christ and His Most Blessed Mother?
“Caritas,” millions of Catholics in the pre-Vatican II era, all knew- that to see a “C”-rated movie, was a VERY GRAVE MORTAL SIN!! Anyway– you had better start practicing your Faith and Morals very SERIOUSLY!! Morality was a VERY STRONG SUBJECT, in the pre-Vatican II Church! Call it a “grave sin,” a “horrible mortal sin,” or whatever– if you DELIBERATELY went to see a “C” movie– YOU WERE SCARED YOU’D GO TO HELL!!
“Caritas,” don’t you know– that almost all “C”-rated movies, were PORNOGRAPHY?? And to view pornography, in films, books, or the Internet– is a MORTAL SIN! A CAPITAL SIN! A VERY GRAVE SIN! Call it by any name you were taught– it is all the same! You cannot receive Our Lord either, in Holy Communion, until you go to Confession! This sin is VERY SERIOUS!! A soul can end up in Hell, if persisting in this evil sin, with NO REPENTANCE!!
In their 2015 Fall meeting in Baltimore, the USCCB issued a statement, saying that the production and use of pornography is a grave sin, and it is a MORTAL SIN, if done deliberately, with full consent! The Church may not have had a new invention, such as films, listed in pre-Vatican II Catechisms, but to produce or use pornography, has always been considered to be a grave mortal sin! And yes– many millions of Catholics, also generally considered that to deliberately go to a “C” movie– was a grave sin, or a mortal sin! This was general knowledge, but not in the Baltimore Catechism, or in any other versions of the Catechism! Movies were too new an invention!
Oh my goodness Caritas!!! You had better HEAD the ever knowing LM!!! She uses the !!! and the C word and several comments in serial fashion to C-ondemn those who see EVERY movie ever made since Vatican II !!!
Everyone knows this!!! Everyone know that to actually enter a theater and see a film and decide for oneself what is evil or good is itself a mortal sin!!! Just by walking on the CARPET in common with one of those films is a MORTAL SIN!!!
Anonymous- If you are a big fan of modern movies, filled with vile language, sex, drugs, and violence– with no respect at all for God– then, you are truly lost! At least in the old days, people knew right from wrong, and never were stupid enough, to call what is right, “wrong,” as you do– and root for what is truly wrong and sinful, in front of God, their family and friends, and all the world!! People used to at least have a moral conscience! But that was before your time, and before “Karitas'” time, too, Anonymous!
It may not be a serious sin to say some swear words, but saying them usually leads to saying worse ones and eventually to using God’s Name in vain, and then a mortal sin is committed. For many years now, there have been substitutes for bad words: darn, shoot, golly gee etc. Since GWTW officially began using swear words, look where it has gotten us now. Our Christian culture is now a coarse culture, and every tragedy begins with one tiny and small step. Ave Maria Purrissima !
The sister is Not a “nun”.
YES!! I AGREE! And she is a BAD ROLE MODEL, too, for kids!!
Interesting. I have listened to Sr. Pacatte’s movie reviews for years. Her observations about movies and culture are insightful. Sister Pacatte’s reviews have been helpful as I carefully select the movies I view. God Bless her!
Were you spending your time listening to a true Catholic nun, trying to lead you to Christ– or spending time listening to a secular movie reviewer, for your entertainment interests??
I think most people would agree, that at least a religious figure, such as a nun or a priest– should ONLY guide the viewer to RELIGIOUS FILMS!! And next, discuss the content, as related to the Catholic Faith!! Otherwise, forget it!
Linda Maria, no, I do not go to see such movies. My only point has been to observe that the “ratings” of the Legion of Decency could have had only advisory force, because the Legion never possessed any of the Catholic Church’s power to teach or bind. For that reason, not following the Legion’s advice could never have been, per se, sinful. Why is that so hard to understand? After sober reflection, I hope you can finally grasp the logic. Yet just pointing that out produced a torrent of “words without end, Amen.” sermons from you.
You spend many words pointing out the precarious state of my soul and the necessity of my “running to Confession”. If it’s OK with you, I’ll let God and my confessor (whose advice is unfailingly sober) be the judge of that. And so, in all charity, I tell you: MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS !
Given all the accusations and insinuations you throw around (like wondering if i favor, or even view, pornography) you might consider running to Confession yourself.
“Caritas,” about 20 years ago, then-Archbishop Levada warned all Catholics in his Archdiocese of San Francisco, NOT to attend a certain big event, held by a well-known visionary and mystic, who claimed to be receiving messages from Christ, that were not in agreement with our Church. He spoke strongly from the Cathedral pulpit, and issued a big important letter, warning and threatening all Catholics, NOT TO SEE THIS MYSTIC, UNDER PAIN OF MORTAL SIN!! The mystic was a FRAUD– and Levada was protecting his Catholics!! Now, do you get it?
“Caritas,” I NEVER said that the Legion of Decency had any of the Church’s power, “to teach or to bind,” to quote your post! NO!! Instead– in everyday Catholic life– lots of nuns in Catholic school, and priests in your parish–would tell Catholics, “do not go to see immoral “C”-rated movies, because that is a mortal sin!” And sometimes, prelates would also officially warn and threaten Catholics likewise, in their dioceses— UNDER PAIN OF MORTAL SIN, if a very immoral movie or other offensive entertainment would come to town! This was BEFORE Vatican II!! Now, do you see??
An occasion of sin is sinful. We are supposed to avoid all persons, places or things that can trap or lead us unto sin. One un repented moral sin can lead a soul to Hell. If watching a dirty (condemned) film causes scandal, then it is sinful, and viewing it then is sinful.
Dan Savage-Inspired ‘Real O’Neals’ Just as Anti-Catholic as You Imagined

Editor’s Note: Offensive Language Below.
Well, anything remotely having to do with sex columnist and pro-gay bully Dan Savage would have to be bad, and the just-released trailer for The Real O’Neals confirms it.
“The O’Neals are your typical Irish Catholic family,” the voiceover begins. Which of course means the daughter pockets what she collects for church charities, Mom and Dad are divorcing, the family priest’s vow of poverty doesn’t apply to his Lexus, and the main character, a teenage son, is gay and struggling to come out of…
In the era of Walter Cronkite and before– professionals in fields like journalism and the law, were not always angels, with high ideals, to help mankind! But most of them, like Cronkite– took pride in being decent, grown-up, manly, and living and behaving, with lots of professional integrity! Especially, with excellent professional English skills!! I just read a review of the scummy, low-class, movie, “Spotlight.” The reviewer warned decent movie-goers, of all the filthy language, including tons of words starting with “f” and “s.” This filthy script couldn’t make it, in a decent high school or college English or journalism class! TOTAL TRASH!
Facebook comments of “Vicente Roberto” aka caritas (caritas’ “best friend”) have hit a new low: not just insulting comments against Linda Maria or Anne Malley (Janek now is excused from the onslaught) don’t deserve a forum, but to accuse one of being “an ex-priest” and “kicked-out seminarian” (which I am neither, but an inquisitive old-school USF married guy) rises to the level of being actionable.
In possessions and exorcisms, once exposed, unable to speak coherently, the devil often resorts to outrageous accusations and insults. We are seeing this here.
Ole Walt Cronkite was never near as ‘impartial’ as his public relations spin team tried to make him out as – Walt had an Agenda, but was good at slipping it in the back door..
Most (modern) cover ups by the lamesteam (‘Down low Soetoro’, Camelot, Lewinsky…) have been for demi-krat leftist / homosex activists adored by hollyweird – if not CCD:

No journalist is “perfect,” but before the 1960’s, journalists like Walter Cronkite (and professionals in other fields, too!) had something that most do not have today–MORAL DECENCY! INTEGRITY! THE WORK ETHIC, WHERE YOU PLACE MORAL DECENCY BEFORE ALL OTHER THINGS!! Our post-1960’s Nation is THOROUGHLY MORALLY CORRUPT, in almost every professional field, today!! Very sad!
