The following comes from an October 6 Cardinal Newman Society article:
A number of Catholic colleges and universities across the country are sponsoring or are allowing events on campus in the next week to mark “National Coming Out Day,” a day to celebrate “coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) or as an ally.” According to the LGBT activist group Human Rights Campaign, which actively works against the Catholic Church on issues of human sexuality, October 11 marks the 28th anniversary of the celebration.
Despite the mandate of Catholic institutions of higher education to teach and lead students to the truth in Christ, many Catholic colleges continue to support “Coming Out Day” celebrations while completely avoiding events to help students understand Church teaching on sexuality, chastity and gender.
Georgetown University, America’s oldest Catholic college, is sponsoring a “Coming Out Day” celebration along with events during the entire month of October leading students to celebrate and embrace LGBTQ “identities.” Last year the Newman Society reported on the expansion of the university’s “OUTober” events to focus more on “transgender” students who wish to be recognized as a gender that differs from their biological sex. This year the focus is on “honoring our histories” according to the university’s LGBTQ Resource Center website.
The student group PRIDE at the (Catholic) University of San Diego is scheduled to hold a “National Coming Out Day” celebration which aims to “encourage the USD community to ‘come out’ as LGBTQ and Ally and embrace our many identities.” Peter Marlow, associate vice president of university communications at USD, told the Newman Society that the event is not sponsored by the university and the university is committed to embodying the Church’s teachings on marriage and human sexuality. But the event is being promoted using university resources on the USD website.
Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., is celebrating “Coming Out Day” on October 11. The university’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center and the Center for Gender and Sexualities Studies developed a series of events to promote October as “LGBTQ+ History Month.”
The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., is holding a “Coming Out Coffee House” on October 20, described as “An open mic space for LGBTQIA individuals to tell their coming out stories.”
Sponsored by the Gender and Sexuality Center, “National Coming Out Day” will be celebrated at the University of San Francisco with “a quick interactive game” and an “interactive collaborative art piece.” “There are so many words to describe the different identities around gender and sexuality within ourselves, but are they enough? Do we even know all what all these words mean?” the event description reads.
The student club PRIDE at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus is commemorating “LGBT History Month” with a “Coming Out Week.” A representative of the university’s Office of Multicultural Affairs told the Newman Society that events during the week will include an opportunity to speak at a coffee shop, a door through which people can “come out” as LGBT or as allies, and a trivia night.
Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., which embraces the label of “one of the most LGBT friendly Catholic campuses in the country,” held a “Coming Out Week LGBTQIA Bingo” on October 3.
And Nobody seems willing to connect the dots between the Horrid Homosex Epebophle Abuse disgrace – and pandering to objectively disorders pathological perversions and rampant Misndry (Hatred of Men & Boys, Masculinity & Normal Heterosexuality). – at leas out loud.
No matter how many bankruptcies and Abused Children – the ‘church of nice- mice’ will turn on those telling the truth about this Evil – rather than confront the Wrongs and do something to reverse them.
Funny thing. Or not so funny. When the awful priest sex abuse scandal was actually happenning, there were no Coming Out Days on those Catholic campuses. I think there IS a correlation between hiding in a closet and abuse of youngsters and children. Call me crazy, and I’m sure you will, but I happen to think that if celibacy is what is called for, then people first have to acknowledge what a healthy sexuality looks like.
YFC, I cannot agree with you that “a healthy sexuality” among those aspiring to the Catholic priesthood can EVER include men who have an insuperable temptation to engage in sexual acts with other men [or with either gender, for that matter]. The more nuanced question is: should men who have an affectional preference for other men, but who can control any urge to engage in sexual acts with them, likewise be barred from the Catholic priesthood. This is a question which must be urgently addressed and settled by binding Magisterial teaching. The “sex abuse crisis” has taught us that much. I neither have the psychiatric nor theological expertise to offer an opinion.
I’m all for nuance when appropriate. I think the separation of men into categories of who “can” and who “cannot” control their urges is a rather circular question and is not so easily accomplished. But I think that men who feel safe enough to confide their sexual orientation to a qualified and compassionate counselor are more likely to be successful at controlling their urges than otherwise. And this goes for both gay candidates and straight ones, by the way.
Healthy sexuality by definition excludes same-sex attraction.
Of course it can, Sawyer. Again, you are substituting your own biases for professionals who live and work in the field.
YFC, in your mind only. Why don’t you just come out and tell the world about your personal preference. Close the closet door as so many others have or are you ashamed. This sinner has tons to be ashamed of and hopes someday you speak the truth. Sodomite acts will end you up in Hell……..
The issue was settled ages ago. Bishops in the American clergy are either homosexuals or are cowards.
They are too afraid to exercise their authority and get active homosexuals out of their Dioceses.
Such a Christian attitude!
No YFC its an accurate one, CLEAN UP THE MESS…
These schools are Catholic in name only, and they are promoting persons to fall into mortal sin.
Who will be responsible on the secular level for young persons getting AIDS and having miserable lives while dying young.
Very few people die from AIDS these days, and with diligence and compassion, we can eliminate this disease within a decade. To do that, we need young people to understand the risks, and to feel safe enough to come forward, get tested, get treatment, and get medication.
AIDS is resurgent now because homos feel that medication will remit their disease and allow then to continue their mortally sinful behavior. There are those who have ceased to medicate because they believe that they are in remission. As long as these people and so-called “barebackers” exist, then HIV and AIDS will continue to kill. AIDS and HIV are lifestyle diseases, stop the behavior, stop the disease,
Barebacking is, in my opinion, a poor choice because, it leads to spread of all kinds of diseases. There IS a resurgence of that king of activity because there has been a tremendous amount of success in medically preventing, detecting, and treating HIV.
All these diseases are less likely spread when partners are not chosen casually, but are encouraged to form long lasting relationships, which has additional psychological benefits as well.
Can you please remove the “Catholic” word from your name? It does a lot of injustice to Christ and His Church.
It stays, sorry. I happen to think it’s a good word.
YFC, and also STOP HAVING SODOMITE SEX will certainly put an end to Aids.
What a strange, strange post, Joe. I’m not sure how you know whether and what kind of sex I might have. And by the way, if all gay people stopped having sex, that would not put an end to AIDS. Most AIDS cases are spread by straight sex in Africa.
AIDS and HIV continue to proliferate because young people are STUPID! Those who practice homosexual sex are STUPID! The dangers and consequences of these disgusting practices have been known/preached for years and yet people continue to contract them. In almost every case, risky behavior is the culprit. Eliminate the behavior, eliminate the disease.
There are a multitude of other diseases and bodily injuries gotten from homosexual behavior. Anyone can look them up on line. AIDS is only the tip of the ice berg. In the 1950s there were about three STDs, all curable. Now there are nearly a hundred, most of which are not curable. Also, years from now many of these young people will have to live any bad behavior down, as people will be blackmailing them with pictures and video as they are doing with many politicians now. Parents should tell their children, “Everything bad you do in life can and will be used against you later.”
Thank you for a list of where I won’t be sending my child to school this coming Fall. Jesus, Mary, I love you save souls~
Look at the big picture here, these so-called Catholic universities CEASED being Roman or Catholic decades ago in particular any one operated by the treacherous Jesuit Order, so don’t worry about these silly colleges, worry about restoring the Traditional Latin Mass to our altars and pray for a savior in Rome. Which looks more and more like His Grace Cardinal Raymond Burke, may the Holy Ghost help these man save what is left of the Holy Roman Catholic Church.
May God grant Francis a short pontificate, amen.
AMEN! Not again. Sad news on the Pope’s recent appointment of new cardinals. Went out of his way to snub conservatives & promote liberals in the USA. Not surprised. Article @ http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/10/09/new-cardinal-picks-pope-francis-sidelines-conservatives-promotes-progressives/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+breitbart+%28Breitbart+News%29/ Weep for Catholic America as the end has started & the assault is from within. Like the Supreme Court, appointments, Cardinal appointments change everything for a long time.
You are correct, “FromThePew”: No Catholic University should have any kind of celebration regarding a homosexual nature. Counseling, with a Catholic focus, should be readily available to steer Catholic students towards a better understanding of the burden that meeting the “celibate only” lifestyle that the Church calls them to follow. No problem with AIDS or any STD if homosexuals stay faithful and celibate. Too bad that Francis and his gaggle of liberal cardinals don’t see this — Satan is strong and is active within the institutional Catholic Church.
You see this is just fine and dandy yet when a “straight” man talks with another straight man about women and girls in a potty mouthed manner and yes it is Trump I’m talking about the whole media and yes even Rhino Republicans are in shock oh my!! Not one person on this blog can ever say they don’t talk like Trump does is lying because there is no such thing as a perfect human being. In my life I have heard married STRAIGHT men talk like this all the time, and guess what? Women can be very very vulgar when talking about guys and sex.
This is the real world folks, we are not electing a Sunday school teacher or a Pope, Trump is not perfect who is? Yet what Roman Catholic would ever vote for Hillary Clinton who loves abortion, gay marriage and as wiki leaks just went viral with the Podesta emails she advocates OPEN BORDERS AND OPEN TRADE, I for one am shocked do you hear me shocked. Grow up folks, this is the last chance to save this country Trump is it, perfect no and frankly I could care less what he said man to man over 12 years ago. Now go and never ever talk about chicks and sex with your married buddies or look at chicks and make a comment.
I agree with you totally,Janet. Trump is guilty of nothing more than being a little crass. Hillary is guilty of treason, at least and plotting to sell our country out as part of her liberal agenda. Which is worse, some juvenile banter or treason?
Sorry for typo, Janek
All God-fearing and truly Catholic people should be praying the Rosary daily, for our Church, our nation and our families. We are in constant attack by Satan and his minions, from every direction.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us!
Being “In the closet” about any part of your life is hard. What have you been in the closet about? For example, I have one friend who was “In the closet” as a kid about his parents being divorced. Another told me she was “In the closet” about being Jewish. In college I was pretty much “in the closet” about being Catholic. How about you? What have you kept in the closet about yourself at any time in your life?
Sodomy is mortal sin. SSA is not mortal sin if not acted upon. Men with SSA have no business in the priesthood. Even celibate homosexuals must be excluded from the priesthood. Why? Too much temptation, too much conflict. A priest should be a masculine role model.
I’m not sure how your replay relates to my question.
It relates in this way. To be Jewish is not mortal sin. To be Catholic is not mortal sin. To have shame about the divorce of one’s parents is not mortal sin. No blame is attached to any of those and many other things that we may feel a misplaced sense of shame about. At best, SSA presents a near occasion of sin. At worst, active homosexuality is contrary to the natural order and a danger to both body and soul. A priest has an enormously difficult job, he does not need to struggle also with a devient sexuality.
…and does “OSA” present a near occasion of sin for straight single people?
C&H of course it might depends on where and when… men going to strip clubs, night clubs bars could be a near occasion of sin, please stop with the typical liberal moral equivalence …oh yeah OSA is normal SSA is not despite what the culture and YFC think
Bohemond, you crack me up. Going to a place like a strip club where women are objectified isn’t a near occasion of sin. It IS a sin.
YFC your opinion was not asked for or required… I know you think you are intellectual but you ARE NOT QUALIFIED to tell me what is or what is not a sin….
I dare CCD to write a follow up article to “out” the Bishops that remain silent so they may be encouraged to find another line of work.
Are you referring to Bishop Barber, or Archbishop Cordileone?
What an outrageous statement, yet so typical of the bitter-hearted source. I happen to have known these clergymen (re. Cordileone and Barber) from collegiate days, the other less so, and “before they were famous”, and for many years.
They are model bishops, beyond reproach as much as humanly possible to be so. You should hope to have an ounce of the moral fiber in either one of them.
That is an oustandingly defamatory comment ypu made and you will answer for it on Judgement Day. Trust me, I will be one of the witnesses. Apologize now while you can.
It was a question not a statement. I was asking for clarification from the poster. Ron, above, who implicated the jurisdictional Bishops. At least one college is in the Diocese of Oakland and therefore the Diocese of San Francisco. So maybe you want to speak with Ron about Judgement Day?
No, you chose to cast aspersions, explicitly naming 2 fine men as if to imply, we can assume, with your expertise on “barebacking” and your frequenting gay SF, that you might have hidden knowledge about them. You tried to defame them. How dare you.
But it is impossible to appeal to shame with the shameless.
It’s too bad you try to smear me with the sins of others, and make up some other things about me.
Right: you claim to be the victim, when your own words convict you. Much more you, the victimizer, as you tried to do to these 2 fine men, who you explicitly named and defamed: and that is the subject you want to change
Robert T. Honestly – I asked a question, trying to clarify who Ron was talking about. Why are you jumping down my throat? Never mind…I’m done with your false accusations.
Many potential dioceses were named in this article, including NY (Fordham), Massachusetts (Holy Cross), San Diego (USD), and Milwaukee (Marquette) besides St Mary’s/Moraga and USF.
But the self-proclaimed expert on SF gay matters, a self-identified fellow ‘catholic’, has made inferences about supposedly “outing” Cordileone and Barber by explicitly bringing up only their names.
So if we ask a question “Is he a deceiving operative?”, it is only a question, not a statement. No inference intended of course.
I was referring to any Bishop in any Diocese that does not publicly denounce these types of outrages.
SAD when Some Catholic Universities = Sodom & Gomorrah celebrations.
No words but cries to Heaven. God help us.
Continued……Timely article from the late great Rome Exorcist Fr Amorth @
The devil encourages gender-bending confusion. This “Coming Out Day” is another evil party on the road to perdition. God’s rule is Chastity for a good reason.
Continued……yet another article by a Priest urging Catholics to stop & resist the gender bending culture, and for good reasons. At:
i wonder if parents know that the ‘catholic schools’ they are sending their kids to are infected with such obstacles courses for faith growth. even if catholic bishops say they have no control over this, they could at least put out an ‘approved list’ for the public as at least a passive way of warning about what’s in the water. lifeguards put flags up for sharks and dangerous water conditions.are bthe bishops and heads of religious orders carrying out their spiritual life guard roles. ‘i am the good lifequard i will lead you through shark-filled waters and by dangerous reefs….”
typo line 6: ‘bthe’should be ‘the’
Heartily agree. Bishops should be blacklisting colleges who allow such atrocities and forbidding the use of the title “Catholic” as well as excommunicating those so-called “Catholic” politicians who dare to approach Holy Communion and yet support abortion and homosexual “marriage”. The shepherds are not keeping the sheep protected from the wolves. The shepherds are participating in the slaughter, including the Chief shepherd.
Your child could come out, awful.
Informative article. Let’s celebrate with the people ‘Coming Out of Gay/Lesbian’ hell. This is about healed SSA at:
Please remember that this organization is “officially” designated as a hate group, according to wikipedia:
Americans for Truth about Homosexuality (AFTAH) is an organization founded by Peter LaBarbera, which describes itself as “dedicated to exposing the homosexual activist agenda”. In 2010, AFTAH was designated an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which said “AFTAH is notable for its posting of the utterly discredited work of Paul Cameron (of the Family Research Institute), who has claimed that gays and lesbians live vastly shorter lives than heterosexuals”.
YFC designated by who the Southern Poverty Law Center ??? Ha they are worthless bunch of anti-Catholics, they consider the Remnant Newspaper a hate group……but I am sure you believe everything they say.
