“When people realize abortion is allowed up to birth for any reason in Colorado most are shocked. People travel from all over the U.S. and even the world to Colorado to get late-term abortions,” Kristin Vail, vice president of Democrats for Life of Colorado, told Catholic News Agency Oct. 19. “I don’t think people want our state to be known for that….”
Proposition 115 asks voters whether to ban abortion in the state after 22 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where a mother’s life is threatened.
A 9 News / Colorado Politics survey of 1,021 registered likely voters found 42% of respondents said they are certain to vote yes on Proposition 115, 45% said no, while 13% are uncertain.
63% of Republicans said they would vote in favor of the ban, as did 28% of Democrats and 35% of unaffiliated voters. The survey was conducted by SurveyUSA in early October. It claims a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.9%.
….If the ballot measure passes, doctors would face a three-year license suspension for performing or attempting to perform an abortion of an unborn child beyond 22 weeks of gestation. Women would not be charged for seeking or obtaining an illegal abortion….
Colorado Right to Life opposes Proposition 115 on the grounds it only regulates abortion and implicitly permits most abortions. The group is a former affiliate of National Right to Life, but broke from the national organization in 2007 over philosophical differences and the Colorado group’s criticism of a partial-birth abortion Supreme Court decision.
The Catholic bishops of Colorado, the Catholic Medical Association, and a group of more than 130 medical professionals and scientists in Colorado have backed Proposition 115.
“Rest assured that your ‘Yes’ to Proposition 115 will have innumerable consequences for the lives of many children who, within their mother’s womb, count on you for life,” Archbishop Samuel Aquila and Bishop Jorge Rodriguez said in a Sept. 27 letter to Hispanics in the Archdiocese of Denver.
The above comes from an Oct. 20 story on the site of the Catholic News Agency.
Is it possible to have “Democrats for Life”?
I was a member of the organization “Democrats for Life” for a number of years. Tragically, the Party purged all of its prolife office holders and candidates. There is no tolerance or diversity on many issues in today’s Democrat Party, including taxpayer funding of abortion at any time up to and including birth.
Might there ever be a time when the party again accepts those who oppose abortion, as they did with JFK, Bob Casey Sr., Ellen McCormack and so many others (even most Democrats until at least the late 1960’s)?
The real Kristin does not have to ask such a question, but I will answer you “Kristiin” with a resounding NO. Anyone can call themselves anything but if someone really is pro-life, they would know that the Democrat party is not accepting or inclusive of dissent on their premier issue, abortion. Taking life issues seriously means not embedding oneself with the culture of death.
“Democrats for Life”? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in Colorado. There’s a big push by Catholic parishes to pass this. Signs everywhere. Bulletin ads. I don’t think it will pass, though. But even if it does, watch out for President Biden to sign a federal abortion rights law.
That sure is an eye opener for me. I am learning a lot about philosophical diversity among Catholics today. Truly American!
This is the Democrat party the party of DEATH. Please Colorado don’t do this you were once a Red state and then all of California moved into the Denver metro area and brought the EVIL with them, Denver has a long Catholic history and it has been destroyed by California transplants. Remember Oregon, Washington, Nevada and New Mexico were all Red states not to many years ago, Californians moved into ALL of these states and look what happened.
Your post comes directly from the evangelical (read non-Christian) playbook. Besides teaching the “God sent a sinner to save America” heresy, they tell young people that a vote for a Democrat will send them directly to hell. If in truth you consider yourself a Catholic, you need prayer and education. Did you hear the first reading from today’s Mass? If not, look it up.
Nothing in the Romulus post is even in the same universe as heresy! That’s your spin Annette and the reason just may be that you don’t like getting your conscience pricked over your support for abortion and/or pro abortion candidates.
Liberal progressive pro-aborts did move into conservative areas and their sheer numbers have changed the political landscape. They were not the oppressed aliens from today’s reading from Exodus, you are wildly out of context. Nor is it suggested by Romulus that a vote for a democrat will send someone “directly to hell”, though it is an interesting point of view that you should look into for your own edification.
You are directing your rage at the wrong target, redirect it toward baby killers and their apologists.
Annette, evangelicals, though they do not have the fullness of the Faith, are Christians. They follow some heresies, but, as the Church teaches, if they acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Redeemer and are baptized, they are our (separated) brothers and sisters and are in some, though imperfect, communion with the Church.
In view of the social liberalism of the Demoncrat Party in general and Colorado in particular, I guess that all the Democrats for Life of Colorado could fit in the proverbial telephone booth.
