On October 5, Francis received Cindy McCain, widow of the late US Senator McCain, a activist for homosexuality, and director of the UN World Food Programme.
She gave Francis a kachina doll, which represents a demon revered by American Indians. The kachinas vary from community to community and can represent anything from the sun, stars, insects, or anything from nature or the cosmos.
Francis’ kachina wears a black mask and holds a bloody knife. McCain calls the figure “a warrior.”
It could be a “Priest Killer” kachina, of which are other examples murdering missionaries, mostly Franciscans. It could also be a Hopi Black Ogre called Nataska, a demonic figure that comes for misbehaving children to eat them.
We’ve been able to confirm that the demon idol Cindy McCain gave to Pope Francis is most likely the ogre-woman called Soyoko Mana, not the priest killer. Soyoko Mana carries a knife and a crook to catch children, whom she eats. The basket of food on her back is what she collects from children hoping not to be captured and eaten by her. The distinctive style of hair on the idol, along with the basket of food and the flat yellow eyes make this the most likely identity of the idol. Aside from the knife, it doesn’t bear any other resemblance to the priest killer idol.

Well, now I’m relieved.

Me too
I couldn’t believe this. Especially, with so much war and violence in the world, today, and the poor Pope trying his best to get wars– in Ukraine and Israel and the Middle East– to end. Plus, Cindy McCain did not wear the traditional, pretty, Italian black mantilla for women, at her recent Papal audience. That is a tradition for women, Catholic and non-Catholic, for Papal audiences at the Vatican. I would think that Mrs. McCain, as UN World Food Programme Director, would give the Pope a gift that had something to do with food for the world, in a religious sense, maybe with a Catholic flair. Or else, give him a statue, painting or icon of a Madonna and Child, perhaps an icon made by a Ukrainian artist. The Madonna and Child also represents the love, compassion and empathy of Our Blessed Mother and her Baby Christ-Child, for suffering mothers and children, in war-torn countries. Another sensitive idea, would be a sensitive artwork of the Flight into Egypt, to save dear Baby Jesus, when evil, violent King Herod issued his orders for the Massacre of the Holy Innocents. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in the Holy Family, have solidarity with the war refugee families, fleeing wars and persecution, today. One must have thoughtfulness and sensitivity, when giving a special gift to a Pope, or to any religious leader.
There are many Indians of various tribes, in Mrs. McCain’s Arizona, and nearby New Mexico — who are talented Catholic artists. Many live in the Diocese of Gallup, which is very poor, and has mostly AZ and NM Indian reservations. Other Indian artists live near major cities, like Phoenix or Santa Fe, the NM capital, and sell their artwork to wealthy art collectors, and have art shows, etc. They also create religious artwork and sell it, often for high prices, at special arts and crafts fairs, religious arts and crafts shows and events,
and contribute their artworks for special religious celebrations. They create artworks of many different saints, as well as Christ and His Blessed Mother. They use special designs, colo
rs and symbols.
Both Spanish Catholic and Indian traditions are mixed. There are altar pieces, statues, retablos, and santeros– santeros are carved and painted wooden “santos,” or Catholic saints, and retablos are carved and painted wooden saints and religious scenes– the Nativity, Crucifixion, etc. There are also murals painted on walls in Catholic churches, as well as different artistic renderings of the Stations of the Cross, etc. It would have been very appropriate for Cindy McCain to have chosen one of these special Indian Catholic artworks, to present to the Pope.
Here is a link to a mural painted in a Catholic church, by a Catholic Zuni Indian artist, who combined Indian Kachinas with Catholic religious themes: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-12-25-ca-961-story.html
We have all brought in some things from our pagan ancestry into the churches, depending on their meaning. The gargoyles of Notre Dame in France, served to remind the French that there were evil spirits around them, but we must be careful how we use such things or avoid them completely. I have Zuni jewelry that I bought in my twenties, but it has no religious significance. There are beautiful silver crosses, of different sizes, embedded with local gemstones from Arizona, and one would have made a lovely gift for the pope.
Inappropriate.
Let’s remember that Mrs. Mcain is from Arizona. What she gave the Pope was a piece of art from her home state.
She could have given him more appropriate and lovely items handcrafted by Native Americans – turquiose belts, rings from other native gems, hand woven blankets and baskets, a carved native animal and books about Arizona culture or even a native food item. The piece she gave was more like a voodoo doll from Louisiana, very macabre. Four leaf clovers & horseshoes for good luck, statues of gods and goddesses should not be given to any Christian leader. Christians are forbidden such superstitions in the Bible and catechisms.
Don’t give the pope one of those “troll dolls” from Bingo Night either. (Laughter.) That is another superstition that gamblers need to ditch. Trolls Dolls do not affect your luck one way or another. They are just stupid troll dolls, and if one puts a horseshoe over the top of a doorway for good luck, it most likely will fall on your head eventually, unless cemented down.
“Let’s remember that Mrs. Mcain is from Arizona.”
Why not a rattlesnake or scorpion?
Those are for little boys to give. (Laughter.) One of my grandsons gave me a plastic enclosed scorpion on a keychain for Christmas that he purchased at his Christian school’s Christmas gift shop. I used it on my hiking pack and still have it.
By the way, I do not really believe it is always wrong to have troll dolls or horseshoe items and such. Many people just think troll dolls are cute or wear horseshoe jewelry to give a western/country look to their outfits. It is all in how we use things, unless they are used specifically for unholy purposes. The latter is a no, no.
And your post means what … art from her home state , should it not at least be appropriate , the bloody knife symbolizes what exactly ? , this was an inappropriate gift for the leader of the church . That it was not vetted by his staff , tells much, about the judgement of McCain and the pope , there is plenty of Arizona art that would be more uplifting then this ugly , frightening effigy.
Does the Pope meet with any prominent leaders who are prolife?
Why do the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Cindy McCain get invitations?
Maybe Ben Shapiro could get an audience and present Ultra Right Beer to the Pope.
Mrs. McCain is one of the largest owners of one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in the United States. At least she didn’t bring a Bud Light.
How much harm can come from a little demonic idol anyway?
I mean, all she does is eat children and other things.
All are welcome in the Vatican.
Today Pope Francis welcomed Sr. Jenine Grammick and New Ways (homosexual) Ministry to the Vatican. That group has been forbidden from exercising ministry in the United States because the USCCB has declared that it is not in conformity with Catholic doctrine.
So what? What are you insinuating from this meeting? The Pope has the privilege of meeting with whomever he wants, including sinners. Christ met sinners, so why can’t his Vicar?
For your information, the Vatican has not released the contents of the meeting. According to National Catholic Register: “CNA asked the organization what was discussed in the meeting but did not receive a response before publication.” For all we know, he probably gave them some fraternal correction. Who knows?
You know Grammick was in error when she praised the Pope for “his openness to blessing same-sex unions.” The Pope has not approved of blessing same-sex unions at all, inspite of false reports.
But insinuating something sinister in the Pope’s meeting with this person, or that person, is pretty high up there in the catalogue of hypocrisies. The Pope can meet with whomever he wants. Why, I wouldn’t object if he meets with “New.”
“So what?” Strictly speaking, you are correct jon, For all we know, Sr. Grammick received a well-deserved rebuke from Pope Francis right before the picture was taken– or shortly after. If so, it might have been the same rebuke Biden and Pelosi, and lately Whoopi Goldberg, received when they visited His Holiness. Is there a pattern here? Who can say?
Who are you to judge?
Grammick knows what one frequent commenter here refuses to accept: that the pope has expressed openness to blessing gay unions. Some people just can’t admit when they are wrong, and they paint themselves into a corner.
Grammick is wrong about a lot of things, but she’s not wrong about what the pope has communicated.
Sr. Jeannie Grammick also believes in and supports abortion.
I’d hate being pope and having to receive all the dumb gifts that famous people bring. Not to mention having to meet those people and make small talk with them.
The pope does not have to meet or accept gifts from anyone ,he has a staff to vet gifts and visitors , when he travels he has an advance team along with security as would any head of state . The gifts and people he meets with are on purpose , this along with the crucifix on the hammer and sickle was not an accident, that he meets with some and ignores others is not by accident.
