Additional observations This is a historic parish of the Diocese of Monterey located in downtown Watsonville. It was established in 1869; the current brick church was built in 1902 (although rebuilt twice after earthquakes in 1906 and 1989, following its original look). In 2022, an arsonist set fire to the church, damaging one wall, some art work and music equipment requiring extensive repair work through 2024.

The sanctuary looks like it’s the result of a Vatican II wreckovation.
So sad looking at the outside of the St. Patricks’s once a stunning church inside before the ghastly and uneccesary wreckovation of the High Altar. And watching a funeral Mass on Youtube of a deceased parishioner with Mariachi music was just plain silly and out of place, I for one love Mariachi muisc but not in a Roman Catholic Mass. No TLM in sight but Spanish completely, pass on this Church.
I drove to it because it was fairly near me. I disagree it’s worth driving to.
Mariachi music doesn’t belong at Mass. It sounds so undignified and tacky. Like a bad soundtrack in a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. The guitar strumming on every beat is unsophisticated and the melodies are banal. Spanish Mass music needs some upgrading. How much of Mexican Catholicism is faith rather than culture?
If I had to estimate, I’d say that at least 4/5 of ALL Catholics are woefully ignorant about their faith and are merely cultural Catholics. If you asked the average Catholic to explain the Nicene Creed, which is recited every Sunday, he’d be like, “Um, well, I don’t know, actually.”
Well I hope they have nicer vestments than the ones used at Notre Dame de Paris over the weekend, how silly, childish and embarrasing to wear those vestments by the Archbishop of Paris and his priests and that hideous and out of place modern “altar” in the cathedral.
I don’t care for the “new” Notre Dame Cathedral. Tragically wreckovated.
That new, weird, black altar looks Satanic to me. It made me almost physically sick, watching the consecration of that new, black, Satanic-like altar, with the altar stone and relics. How could they mess up so badly on that? A black altar? Crazy. Hope someday it will be removed, and destroyed. The new, black baptismal font is extremely offensive, too.
