Additional observations  St. Mary Parish is part of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings and is made up of three churches, St. Mary’s in Livingston, St. William’s in Gardiner and St. Margaret’s in Clyde Park.  The first Catholic mass was celebrated in Livingston in 1883 as the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived in the region.  The first St. Mary’s church was completed in 1891, and a school staffed by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas followed.  The parish relocated to its current site in 1967, with the original church being sold to the Congregationalists (and today is still the Livingston Congregational Church).
